This place is a scam. I've been renting cars in cozumel for almost 24 years and never had anyone in cozumel try to take advantage of me. Everyone knows you have to get insurance but these guys were almost 3 times more than what Everyone else was at. 1000.00 deposit. 60.00 dollars a day on full coverage. Went over to fiesta car rental and 20.00 a day on full coverage. Find any other place but hertz read more

My experience is very similar to the others presented. Whatever Hertz quotes you double that price at least. Also not disclosed is a deposit, mine was $2000.00 USD. This crew is shady at best. I would highly recommend buying Mexico insurance before you arrive because these guys are going to stick you with the most expensive insurance they can find. And yes, you MUST have Mexico insurance or you will not be renting a car. I have read that the local car companies give better rates so do yourself a favor and do your research or rent when you arrive. It was like the Seinfeld episode about reservations. Despite having a reservation, they did not have any cars. They said I could go to Europcar next door but their card reader didn't work at the end of the transaction. I ended up going to another car rental place in the parking lot and they had plenty of cars. They said Hertz does that all the time. read more

Our experience with Hertz, and especially with their female manager, was negative in the extreme. Don't trust ANYTHING she says. I would guess she is a huge part of the reason that Hertz is the lowest rated rental company on Yelp in Cozumel. I will NEVER rent from Hertz ANYWHERE in the world now due to this experience - complaints about Hertz's deceptive practices in Cozumel go back for a decade. Please read them - they are accurate from our experience. Hertz upper management must know about this deception since they have nothing for a decade to stop it. Check the reviews and select a local company with a 4.7+ rating. Hertz's Yelp rating is 1.8. The Hertz employees will imply that the collision coverage you have via your credit card isn't valid in Mexico. I checked with Chase Bank and they sent a letter verifying credit card coverage. It is also suspicious that an American company servicing American tourists uses a contract written in Spanish. read more

Make sure your taxi drop you off at the right hertz. We ended up here and ended up basically getting scammed into renting a car for $1500 for the week, plus a whole bunch of other fees and insurance. If you book a rental in advance, just keep in mind that this Hertz location will give your rental to whoever pays and arrives first. They prefer to give your reserved rental to those that pay more. If I could do negative stars, I would. Reserved a car for our trip in July 2022. All was fine with the rental process, except the price more than doubled to insure it. We paid for max insurance (just in case). Nothing happened to the vehicle while we had it. They charged me 5000 pesos ($293.83) additional for a "missing plate". Corporate Hertz cannot help since this is a franchise location. Had to submit a dispute. Still fighting with them. My pick-up/drop-off receipt shows no issues with the car. They have supplied a picture of the car without a front license plate and refuse to refund my money, even though the license plate is there in the drop-off report. This location is committing fraud! COZUMEL: This was a nightmare. I had purchased extended car insurance through rentalcover.com which ensured me that I was fully covered & did not need to purchase any additional coverage only to be forced to purchase additional ins. through Hertz if I wanted to continue with my car rental. The lady at the Hertz counter was extremely rude, unresponsive and refused to look at my purchased policy. In addition, I could not get in contact with rentalcover.com This is bad business practice by Hertz, sadly I will not use them nor rentalcover.com again for any location. Beware so you too are not a victim of this scam. This was a miserable and unnecessary beginning to a long awaited vacation. I flew in to Cozumel airport. Hertz service counter and cars are located in the terminal (other providers require you to shuttle over to get your car), which is very convenient. I rented a automatic-transmission sedan but got a manual-transmission compact, not a deal breaker, especially at the competitive price. Car was in decent shape and in good repair, the only thing "wrong" was low windshield wiper fluid. I ended up staying a couple of extra days and Hertz extended the rental without any fuss. I did the self-fuel option, which isn't that big of a hassle and saves money. Also, I have an AmEx card with the premium car rental insurance, which saves a bunch of money. Beware about Hertz at the Cozumel Airport location. They precharge you a full tank of gas whether you use it or not. Also, they have expensive fees. And they didn't like to fact that I didn't purchase their insurance. Four days for a 4 cylinder Chev March manual transmission was $218. Too much! I am trying another car rental place. read more

Pros: - Quiet, we had no wait at all - Good selection of luxury vehicles, SUVs, JEEPs and other vehicles suitable for Cozumel roads - Only $7 for an additional driver - Staff was friendly, not amazing at English, but we had no problems communicating Cons: - Our car looked good (exterior and interior), and we had no mechanical problems, however, the tire pressure was low on three out of four tires, and way too low on one of those three. Not great for mileage, and a potential safety issue on highways. - You are not allowed to take these cars off-road or onto the dirt/sand roads anywhere, only well-paved roads. - If you're coming in from a cruise port, you'll have to pay for a taxi as there is no shuttle. We paid $5 per person to get there, and it was $9 per person to get back. According to the port though, it should be only $14 for 1-4 people. What you should know: - The deposit is $2600 (!!), which you have to put on a credit card. Yes, that's AMERICAN dollars. Highest deposit amount I've ever seen. - This is apparently true anywhere in Mexico, but be aware that you will need to sign a credit card slip with the amount left blank, in case of accidents. My brother made reservations through Expedia for a small car. Got to Hertz the rep said they were out of the standard size and he could rent us an upgrade for $25.00 bucks extra a day! Bull crap! The reservation was made weeks ago what a way to start a vacation he should have given us the upgrade at no extra charge since it's their fault! These guys suck. Confirmed for two vans, made reservations months before and nothing when we get here. Finally gave us two cars but we cant fit all the people in our party in two cars! I have been renting from Hertz every year in May when I go to Cozumel for the last 10 years. They have always been very good to me and their cars are quality. Not to mention they are very convenient and in my opinion reasonably priced. This year unfortunately our vehicle was damaged on the bumper and I didn't get insurance, but the charges were reasonable for the damage. I do not feel like I was taken advantage in anyway. I would highly recommend renting from them and plan to do the same in years to come. read more

I had the worst experience I have ever had. I had made reservations with expedia.com and paid for the rental online. Stated that it included all taxes and fees. I arrived to Cancun and was told that it was not including taxes fees. Also, the insurance that I had purchased online was not honored in Cancun. So we paid the bill and got on with the vacation. The cars power port did not work, and the GPS died in the middle of Cancun and we had to go back to rental place to exchange the car. What a ordeal.
