Rented a car from "ET" aka Eric Torres who is apparently affiliated with this rental car place, he sits at the 5ta avenida & embarcadero a Cozumel Playa del Carmen Centro 77713 Playa del Carmen, QROO Mexico in the Paseo Del Carmen Shopping Mall across from Miniso store. He has a booth outside in the walk way right in front of Miniso! He offers tourist attractions and sold us the rental car through Rentadora Golondrina. We ride the ferry all the way to Cozumel, walk to the rental place, just to find out they don't even have the car we rented, and mind you it's getting late in the evening, and the rental is by day so they said they would have to go get the car we rented, I was not happy because at that point we would only have the car for 2 hours but we were going to do it until they presented us a contract in all SPANISH. About liability, damage, etc to the vehicle. We don't speak nor read Spanish, that's when I opened my phone to look the place up and seen the reviews, to which my surprise nothing but scam experiences, so we kindly declined asked for a refund and left. This has been almost a month ago and they have yet to refund me for goods and services I did not receive. When we questioned Hector by phone back in Playa Del Carmen he wasn't of any help and told us we had purchased additional insurance which we had not. The rental agency in Cozumel actually had the nerve to falsify our original contract, crossed out that we had refused additional insurance and forged our name that we had purchased it thus accounting for the additional $25. WE NEVER AGREED TO THIS AND THEY KNOW IT. The BOTTOM LINE... Don't go to this agency and do your homework before renting in Cozumel! They are total scammers! read more

Set us up for a police scam. We get to a checkpoint and the guys from the rental company were waiting there and were in kahoots with the cops to write us a BS ticket. We refused to pay them off and they made us sit there for 2 hours until they decided to write us a "real ticket" which included paying 300 dollars for the ticket at the rental agency to get our license back. They just so happened to pull us 5 minutes after we filled the car with gas and charge us an extra 60 bucks in cash for extra insurance. Corrupt police is an understatement. read more

Beware of this car rental company pulling a bait and switch on their customers. Firstly, they use tour vendors as middlemen who stand at the pier who will overcharge you to reserve a car. When you go to get the car, they will try to give you a different car. This place is a small office in the middle of the block with no garage, so their inventory is limited. We reserved a car with air conditioning and they tried to give us one without. When we protested, they made us wait until they could find a different model that did have air conditioning. read more

Buyer beware! These folks are total scammers and will turn from friendly to aggressive on a dime if you start to question anything about your rental. Almost got duped by this place but got a bad feeling before signing papers and decided to quickly look them up online only to find the most terrible reviews. After seeing that I quickly shifted to jump ship and told them we no longer wanted a rental and ask for our cash deposit back, as we hadn't signed for or finalized our rental yet but a worker had come by and taken the cash we had pulled out from the table even before we started reviewing the paperwork -- already a red flag. They quickly turned hostile and rude upon this change and refused to give us our money back for several minutes until someone was bringing another fresh couple from the street in for a rental and our loud arguing was becoming bad for their business. I am being kind with even giving them a star. Please don't just read this review but other people's as well. As you can see, this place is not recommendable. AT ALL. They use middlemen who target gullible tourists without a doubt. They employ guys stationed at Playa del Carmen to get you to put in a deposit for a rental scooter or car along with tours/excursion packages. Please please please don't get pressured to give in. My friends and I (we're all asian girls, yes race and gender are both factors) were definitely scammed. We spoke to a guy while we were in Playa who promised us a good deal. We paid the deposit because he claimed that his boss (the owner of this establishment) allowed him to give us a bespoke, cheap price to rent a scooter. My friend (a very nervous driver) who was the only driver among us was skeptical of driving a scooter around the island as we were first time visitors. The guy convinced us that they can easily change the reservation to a car if she backed out from getting the scooter. When we arrived at the office (which was a true hole in the wall btw), we were met by an employee who totally changed the tune of what we previously agreed on with the guy at Playa. He increased the price when we decided on getting a car instead. This was so infuriating when we were initially promised a fixed price on whatever rental we chose. Also PLS PLS PLS BE AWARE THAT THE RENTALS ARE SHITTY AF, very different from the photos and brochures. When we returned the vehicle, we had the option of filling the gas ourselves or paying them the amount instead. If you do decide to actually rent from this place, get the gas yourself PLEASE. They will charge you more. Please heed our advice because that was the one thing we did right. We paid about 250 MXN. They were going to charge us 600 MXN for it. Last tip: Take a photo of the gas meter PLEASE. If I could give this company 0 stars, I would! It started with the salesman, Carlos Herrera, that's located by the Ultramar ferry terminal(right outside Senor Frogs on Playa del Carmen). But he's probably lying about his name as well. Lies is pretty much all that came out of this man's mouth. He gave us a 'deal' on a 'buggy'. Wasn't a buggy at all and only allowed in manual transmissions. Outside of our actual reservation cost, he told us that all we had to pay was for gas - which was estimated to be $7. Nope, $24 and I'm pretty sure we got duped on gas because there's no way we went through $24 in gas with the amount of time we drove. He also gave us a wristband and said we could do lots tequila tasting and margaritas around the island included in our 'buggy' rental. We found ONE and the gentleman told us that we couldn't try it unless he took our wristbands. We don't know who was lying but didn't find any other stops around the island and couldn't find them on a map and/or no one else knew what these wristbands stood for. Lastly, when checking the salesman in the office, told us the insurance was required AND that we had to pay taxes but only in cash. After arguing for several minutes, he ended up saying the insurance wasn't required but taxes were but again, only in cash. Told him we didn't have enough so he accepted the $10 we had and moved on. So sketchy! I'd avoid this company and it's affiliates if you can. It seemed to be just lies. Even a representative at one of the local beach clubs told us that they've heard the lies come straight from their mouths. We got two cars when told the scratches that were on the car a guy was supposedly writing everything down on a paper in which he never provided. The tire popped we called the worker named Adrian, and he comes to meet us to tell us that we are now supposed to go fix the car ourselves.... what kind of car rental service is this? Also do not be fooled the insurance is fake... it covers absolutely nothing. We were told it was our fault if the tire pops. So we are not to pay $100usd to replace the tire.... keep in mind the tire was extremely old bald and had no traction on it. It is inevitable for an old tire to pop while riding around on bumpy unkept roads. We were spoken to rudely and then threatened to be involved with the police. Absolutely ridiculous. My friend had to tie the hood back down and we returned the jeep. Once back demanded our money back. They laughed and said no you already took it out for 2 hours. I knew I was not going to win this case being in another country. So I told them I wanted another car. Gave us another shit box. Drove around the block and came to a stop sign. Stopped and preceded to go. Out of no where a guy on a moped slams into me. Damaging his bike and the car. He precedes to call the police. Another witness comes running over saying "negotiate, negotiate" says don't let him call the police it'll ruin your life. Hearing about the Mexican police I figured screw it so I gave him 200, as the police still showed up as we drove away. Went back to the shop and all 3 workers come running out knowing what had already happened. I'm like how would you know what happened? Guy says there's cameras on every intersection. lol I almost lost it. I said bullshit. Anyways he made me pay for the damages to the car too. Didn't care that he almost killed us with the jeep. We DEFINITELY should have read reviews before renting scooters here! Total bait and switch. First, were suckered by the guy who sold us ferry tickets in Playa del Carmen. We thought we were going with a reputable place. This is NOT a reputable place! First off, they tack on charges for who knows what and try to get you to purchase additional insurance (unnecessary). We paid for 6 scooters but only ended up taking 5 (I wanted to just be a passenger) but of course they didn't refund us for the one scooter. They (and we) took pictures and video of each scooter before taking them. After we left, one scooter wouldn't idle (died at every stop) and had a throttle that stuck. Didn't know THAT until one friend (first time scooter driver) went flying through an intersection unable to stop! She was fortunate that she only tore up her shoe and scratched/bruised her foot. The company traded that scooter out and we were on our way. A while later another scooter died. They drove another scooter to us and we continued on our way. There were more scooter malfunctions but locals helped us work through those. At the end of the day when we returned the scooters the workers accused us of scratching a scooter. Of course the one they were talking about was one that they had traded us, so we had NO pictures or videos of it! We had just witnessed them accusing another couple of the same thing under similar trade-out circumstances. They said it would cost us $70. One of the Spanish speakers in our group argued with them and explained it was the scooter they had traded out and they offered to split the cost with us. We knew we were being had, and one of the non-Spanish speaking friends spoke the universal language of shouting and swearing. On The top of it the car was unsafe, the handlers didn't care , didn't answered they cellular when we ended up not being able to turn the car back on after refueling . Jeep we rented was NOT as advertised. We paid in PDC and when we picked the car up in Cozumel we would have run if they didn't already have our money. Jeep was so beat up and barely functional. I've never written a review to any place that I have been to but this one deserves one. This is the worst place ever to rent mopeds from. PLEASE stay away and refrain from renting here, as they are a bunch of crooks. First of all, we got to the place and took off with our bikes for our ride around the Island. (We had the paid the insurance fee of $20 to cover for damage if total or any damages were made to the moped) Were we were covered with 80% of total damages. One of our mopeds was dropped as soon as we left and was seen by the person that handed the mopeds to us. It caused a small scratch on the front and side keybox area. He told us that it was fine and that no charges were going to be made. He assured us to continue the ride around town. Once we got back to the place, the supposed person in charge told us that we were to cover the damage and that it was going to cost $400 to repair those damages. First of all, when he saw us drop the bike at the beginning we told him if we were going to be charged that we would just cancel the rentals and get credit towards the cost. However, he had told us that we weren't going to be charged and thats what upset us. On top of that one of other bikes we rented (there was 4 in total) died on us due to bad service on the bike and the transmission gave out. We had to leave it somewhere along the road and in the end returned with 2 bikes only. We told him that we weren't going to pay as he told us that and he called his boss since he said he words weren't the ones in charged. Once his "boss" came he said that it needed to get paid no matter what. In the end, we had the cops come(cops don't help at all) to try to work it out. We were approached when buying our Ultramar ferry tickets over to Cozumel. An Ultramar employee recommended that we pre rent a Jeep for a fun open air day driving around Cozumel. We paid by credit card and then he had to take our photo to send to some guy on Cozumel. Once we got there we met the guy in front of the restaurant across from the ferry terminal who walked us over to Golondrinas. So sketchy! Once there they made us fill out some more paperwork and insisted on another $100 pesos for "tax". Finally he brought out the biggest POS Jeep on the island. Full of dents and scratches and dirty with no functioning seatbelts. It was standard transmission, loud and extremely uncomfortable. I did not see a Jeep in worse shape on our travels around the island that day so I would say that any other company would be better than this one. read more

We were pulled over by police bc a helmet fell off of one of the people in our group (due to the broken straps to begin with). We wanted to rent a 4 person buggie for a day to drive around the island on our last day in Cozumel so we started walking towards a place we saw down the street from our condo. As we passed Golondrina, Victor runs out and tries to reel us in with their "best priced rentals!!!!". We asked about the buggie which he said he doesn't like to rent out because they're "low to the ground" (turns out he didn't have any and was just trying to talk us into renting something else from him.) He said he would rent us something way more comfortable and better: a Jeep Wrangler. My family was intrigued and he even sweetened the deal by saying he would come pick it up at the airport the next day when we go in for our flight so we wouldn't have to take a taxi. So we caved in and paid. We must have gotten the shittiest Jeep Wrangler in existence, like straight out of a junkyard. The whole thing was rusted to hell, seatbelts didn't work, the emergency brake was completely corroded off, the tires were bald, and the poles supporting the top were eroded away and so the whole was attached to the car by the canvas straps. This car was literally being held together by straps and prayers. We had to return it early because it started making a weird noise like it was about to explode and frankly we wanted to live to see the next day. Also, good thing our group knew how to drive a stick shift because they didn't tell us that it was when we signed all the paperwork. It was also very difficult to get in and out of in the back because the front seats didn't move forward. Not to mention there was no space for our luggage anyway to drive it to the airport the next day. Don't do what I did. Do not trust Victor or any other shyster in that place. read more

I wish I'd have read the reviews first! We got a "deal" on the mainland only to find it was half as much on the island. Our Jeep had no seatbelts in the backseat - with kids. The soft top was torn in multiple places. The casing around the stick shift was torn and hot air from the transmission was baking my feet. I'm just happy to be alive, really. They wanted an extra $9 in tax when we picked up the car after paying for it on the mainland and being assured we would not have to pay more. I think that $9 in "tax" would have got us a half decent car and if we'd known we would have surely paid it. As it was, we didn't feel like we had much choice and it was a $90 lesson. poor quality is bad need of repairs. rented 3 jeeps & a scooter. all had issues of some form. no windshield wipers and was huge rain storm on other side of island. when we returned jeeps after 1 in less than a half hour and the other 2 wishing 2 hours they laughed when informed of deficiencies. brakes and steering didn't work well at all. seats moved when stepping on gas. holes in the floorboards. They told us they are inspected. I think NOT. do not recommend even if they gave them away. We rented a jeep from Extreme Tours in Cozumel, Mexico and want to let you know it was our worst experience. The jeep should not have been rented to anyone. It was a death vehicle. There were no seat belts, the odometer did not work, no spare tire, no brake lights, only one front light that worked at about 30%. We came home one night in the dark, not knowing that the lights did not work and we could have been killed. We talked to the guy the next day on the return of the jeep, and he had nothing to say but we should have called them. Our phones don't work in Mexico and could not make an outgoing call. There was no way to call them! This Jeep should never been rented out to anyone.....period! It was such a dangerous vehicle to drive. I would appreciate if the owner could call me back or write me and let me know what you could do about this problem we experienced on our wonderful vacation. It could have turned out way worse on that way home! We were all scared to death until we made it back to our Hotel. read more

Hold you and you card until you miss your ferry and are forced to pay in order to leave. They even threatened to call the police when we discussed the issue with them (never having attempted to leave). This is the worst place in Cozumel. We rented what they call "Mexican Ferrari" we knew that it supposed to be a cheap car but what we got was just junk. I've never seen a car like this...it has dent all over, scratches and super dirty inside. We are still at the rental shop after waiting for an hour. While we had to pay upfront before, they didn't tell us all of the convertibles are manual. Instead they sell it to you before and it is only when you arrive that they pull the bait and switch to exchange the more expensive car you booked for a cheaper car, insisting it is the same price. However, they also insisted to make a copy of our American Express when they just said a minute before they do not accept it. Sketchy? Check. Cons? Check. Hard to find? Check. Are there way more other companies that will rent out at a reasonable price? Check. Did the supervisor lie about us knowing that the convertibles were all manuals? Check.
