Ricky was the best! Ricky had me in and out within 20 minutes. My first rental was having problems, so I stopped here to exchange cars. They were technically about to close, but he stayed there to help me out. After I got into my new car and was about to drive off, I realized I had misplaced my phone. My boyfriend had to run back inside and catch Ricky before he left. Ricky was kind enough to come back out to unlock the car for me to check if I had left it in there. Sure enough I did! After driving away, we realized 10 minutes later that I left my ray-ban's in the car... We called the next morning, since they were closed at that time and was greeted with Ricky again! He went out to the rental to search in the car and sure enough, it was there! We worked with Ricky during the entire process to return the sunglass to us in AZ. The worst rental place ever. State Farm has been nothing but good to us and they set us up with a rental for this specific Hertz location. They've got a girl and a guy who were manning the phone and the girl's first name starts with an "L" I don't know her full name and quote honestly don't care. Our rental was physically returned to the shop on 12/1 about 6:30pm but since they didn't have an after hours drop box I left the car but had to take the key. I called hertz on 12/2 at 8:07am asking if they could please arrange a way to have the keys picked up from my work because there was no way I could leave and I had already turned in the car I just need help with getting the keys picked up. I asked if they could come to my work and call me on my cell so that I could head down and give them the key. The guy assured me it would get taken care of. I called again at 09:19am and was on hold for 14 minutes just for the guy to answer the phone say hello twice and then hung up. I called back again at 09:35am to follow up because I didn't want to get stuck with the car another day when I didn't have it and it was actually parked at their lot. Same gentlemen answered the phone and was beyond unprofessional saying it would get figured out and they had until 5pm to get the key. I called at 1:07pm and spoke to "L" who had attitude saying they sent "someone" to my work and that "someone" asked for me by first name and they didn't know who I was and apparently this "someone" waited 20minutes (allegedly) and then left and now they have no one to pick up the key and I was going to have to drop it off because they weren't sending anyone else to get the key. I told them that i specifically asked to be called on my cell ans which she responded with they didn't have my cellphone number. I called back at 1:09pm to ask for the manager "L" answered again and said the manager was on a conference call so she asked for my cellphone number and said she would let the manager know. I asked for the managers name and she said Jessica. I then proceeded to call hertz on district because apparently downtown missed some course on customer service. I called the Hertz on district and spoke with Alex. I explained the whole debacle with downtown and how I need help getting the key picked up. Alex was beyond helpful stating he has drivers returning from Visalia and he would have a driver pick up the key. Alex asked for my name, cellphone number, and address for my work and stated it would get handled and for me not to work. Alex also said he would call downtown to see what was going on. At 2:03pm I got a call from Jessica who was very nice/helpful (so she either didn't know what was going on or she played it off really good, not sure, don't care, because either was she was nice and helpful) but my first response was I got it take care of and Alex has it figured out but thank you for calling me back. Jessica asked what the problem was and I told her and she said it wasn't a problem he had drivers coming down from Handford but she could get someone over to me to have the key picked up. I told her wow that's funny because according to "L" there were no drivers available and no one was coming back to my work. Jessica said she would have it taken care of. At 2:17pm I got a call on my cell from a male from hertz who stated he was out front of my work to pick up the key to the rental. I gave him the rental key and a $5.00 gift card for making my life easier and picking up the key. Well guess what... 12/3/2020 TODAY, my husband get a call from hertz saying the rental hasn't been returned... MIND BLOWN... my husband called Hertz corporate office who said the office hasn't processed paperwork saying the vehicle is returned... Are you kidding me!!! Seriously!!!! Smh... they have one job... one job... I will never use Hertz downtown again... worst ever... I called State Farm and told them never again with hertz. State Farm called corporate to handle the situation. I can't with Hertz... nothing but a headache... read more

4 minutes ago They never mentioned the prepay for fuel was not refundable. I ending up only using the car for 1 day instead of 3. This rental car was supposed to be convenient for me because I was supposed to save money. I ended up paying way more. Money to the trash!!! Never again will I use this company. They also made it seem like I needed their insurance which I didnt because my auto insurance covers rentals. But of course they never mentioned that either! I rented a car for the day and even though the car itself worked well, the customer service wasn't so great. One of the workers was rude and did not acknowledge the people that were in line waiting to be helped. Another customer asked me why I was there before any worker. They tried to scam me by saying that they could not find the keys to the car, but when I went down there myself they were exactly where I left them(in the drop box). Keep in mind that the lady that had told me she could not find them said she looked twice and they weren't there. Also, make sure to clean the car before returning it because they charge a $200 cleaning fee. read more

I was very disappointed in the service received here... There was only one person to assist customers. And while responding to the customer in front of me, she responded very abruptly and a slight bit rude, when her customer asked her to repeat what she had just said. Now for my experience as the customer being helped. Apparently all three of their computers were running slow as she tried all three of them just to get to my rental agreement. When she finally completed the transaction she just handed me the keys and told me what make and model my car was. We didn't do a walk-around she didn't guide me to the car just handed me the keys and said thank you. After finally finding the car. I realize that she had given me a card that did not have Sirius radio, which I had prepaid for. But we were in a rush so we took the vehicle and left. even when I had to clean up some of the debris not picked up inside the rental even thought it looked as though they just washed the car. Yes, they removed the charge after the fact. But you think they would given me the accessories I requested and paid for on line. Or at least have the courtesy to tell me you don't have it available. read more

This review is about Hertz, in general. Very disappointed with being double charged, with extra charges at that. I rented a car from an out of town location with the intent of returning it, on the same day but in a different location, which is this location in Bakersfield. Staff from out of town said that was ok, did the paperworks and charged me. The agreement says I am to return it at 10:30pm but I got back early at 7pm. The website says they're open, but the sign at the door says they close way earlier than that. There's a drop box for keys if returning after hours. Problem was, no parking space to leave the car. I was not keen on leaving the car parked on the street, if the sign says I am responsible for the car until staff gets the keys in the morning. So I called their number and told them of the situation. The CR said they will make a note of a late return, which I'm fine with. So I went the next morning and returned the car. When I checked my bank account, I was charged twice. Called the CR, she said they put security holds on late returns, ok understandable...but it has been more than 10 days. Before that she told me 5-7 days, so she has to backtrack and mumbled excuses as to why they haven't refunded me back. I told them fine, so when am I getting my refund? She says 5-7 days after my call. I have used other car rental companies and I never had this problem. I understand mistakes happen, but I felt like this had a lot of misrepresentations, that the double charges would have gone unnoticed if I did not check my account. I will be checking my account for a refund. And I will update this review. read more

Reserved a car the night before knowing Hertz picked you up. The next day I called and they said they don't pickup at my location (airport). Called the downtown location and they said they can't honor my reservation at the other location and it would be over double the price!! They said they would send a Lyft to pick me up and take me to the airport location. That was great since I had no ride. Long story short, they never sent a ride. After talking with Ian for a hour, still no pickup. Very inconvenient since I was going out of town for my daughter's birthday party and I was on a schedule I had to find another ride. Just because it wasn't prepaid gas feels like a SCAM they should do a better job of explaining the gas sign that says 3.10 per gallon making you think it's cheaper to let them fill up. The only car available for me was uncleared and filthy, the aux input was broken, gas was on empty, and it had a broken tail light. They don't have much of a selection at this location and the guys who work there are awful. I recommend going elsewhere. This review is for the Hertz at the airport, but also every other location within 200 miles. We usually have really good luck with Hertz, but I guess it was just that...luck. We are gold members and with that we thought we would get really good service, not the case. We made our reservation 3 weeks in advance to pick up a full size car at 8am on the morning of our arrival. We live in Kernville Ca so we had to be out the door at 6 to get to Hertz by 7:30. Upon our arrival we noticed a line of very disgruntled customers in front of the hertz booth. The other car rental booths had customers in and out in minutes, yet the line of people at hertz waited about 30 mins. We were informed that a car was not ready for us, since all their cars were retuned at 5am, they did not have a chance to get cleaned up, no apology. Around 9am we finally got our car, a Nissan Altima, which is in my opinion a great rental option. Powerful, comfortable, and great on gas. We get in and notice everything was sticky and smelled like cigarette smoke. The car also had 55,000 miles on it, and scratches all over. We didn't think to much of it because we were running late, and had a 13 hour drive in front of us. About 3 hours in the car lost power on the I5 (we couldn't get over 50 mph,peddle to the metal). Big rigs blazed passed us, cars rode our behind, no shoulder to safely pull out, and the next exit was 15 mins away. I called every hertz within an hour of our location and not one had a car in their lot. How can rental places not have the one thing they rent? Finally we got a little further and I called a hertz in Tracey Ca, and they accommodated us. It was 1 hour out of our way, but thankfully they got us in a car and on our way quickly. Upon the return of our car at 6:30-7 pm a few days later, we wanted to bring this all up to the counter clerk....but they were no where to be seen. The phone was on the counter and all the other rental booths were manned. We waited about 30 mins, and they never returned. On our way home we called many times and still no answer. Very disappointed with this whole affair and I will never use Hertz again. read more

After having a broke down car and spending all day trying to resolve it on a late Saturday afternoon I was directed by AAA that Bakersfield Airport had car rental agencies open late that could help me put an end to the fiasco. Upon arriving we were greeted by a EXTREMELY portly "gentleman" who was very rude while pointing out he had no cars to rent. After turning our attention to one of the 3 remaining agencies at the same counter I turned back to look at him, to catch him rolling his eyes at us like we were some kind of a nuisance. The nerve of someone who hasn't be able to see his own feet or genitalia for a number of years without the use of a mirror, being rude and smug, was actually pretty funny to us. We made fun at his expense the rest of our trip which was pure comedy gold. But at the same time, it was just flat out bad customer service. I had no idea they made shirts in 7XXL but sure enough they found someone willing to tackle that monumental challenge to make him feel like a professional, too bad his attitude was far from it. read more

If I could give them a zero I would !! This branch needs to be regulated and BBB is on their way! First off, The customer service here is horrible ! They rented me a vehicle with expired tags ! I drove all weekend with expired tags ! When I brought this up to them, Jazmin said I should of checked it myself and gave me attitude. So I called the area mgr Joshua and he promised me a credit but instead when I went in the supvr , Ivan, accused me of smoking in their car! Without Any proof! I DO NOT SMOKE! When I got into the car it was already dirty. There was a nasty toe nail on the carpet I showed them. No one did the walk around with me when I picked it up! So to add injury to insult they, charged me $300 this mrn for a cleaning fee with out ANY AUTHORIZATION! No one from their branch called me, it was charged days after my original rental charge was made. So I called my bank to investigate and also called Hertz corporate office! They apologized for the treatment and refunded me the $300 that was Not supposed to be charged ! This branch has turned me off on renting cars from them ! Truly disappointed with this company. In 2010 my car was in the shop 5 times. ( I have a new car now but I'll save that story for later). I rented a car from Hertz each time. I had no issues, challenges nor problems, including returning the vehicles and following all their rules. This time the guy behind the counter tells me he can't rent me a car. (Hummm why) He said they now do random credit checks on debit cards and my card was declined. I said that's impossible. I had 20x the funds needed. He was not helpful and simply dismissed me. Now I'm stuck downtown without transportation. Avis to the rescue! I called them and they took excellent care of me. We drove off in style. Never Again Hertz! When customers have proven to be loyal and trust worthy you should take that into consideration. read more

My girlfriend is sick with an auto immune condition and had a hard time due to her functionality returning the rental car. I am extremely upset at the customer service I received from this place when I returned the rental car vehicle. I reserved an ECONOMY car on Expedia and went to pick up but the guys gave us a "free" upgrade because the only economy car left was very dirty. Okay cool. I use the vehicle and today as I'm returning it I get charged $48 when it was only $27 and change. They were charging me $10 for gas which was literally an 1/8, and I get it. I saw the sign so I asked if I could go across the street to fill up with gas and the rep said she would have to charge me ANOTHER HOUR just to go across the street. She was already charging me another hour because the gentleman who processed my rental the day before put 8:51 am. We didnt receive the keys and he didnt inspect the vehicle until about 9:10-9:15. And thats around the time i returned it. Even if i was 5 minutes late. Really? YOU HAVE to charge me another HOUR? She didn't try working with us at all. She either had to charge me the gas or the hour. I dont know if she got extra pay for those $9.25 but ok. Horrible customer service. Pacheco location...Worst car rental experience in my life! I had reserved a full sized SUV and was told it would not be a problem. I called the night before the pick up date and spoke with Dylan. He told me they would have a Tahoe the following day. I called the next day and Dylan said he had a Traverse and that it was the same size as a Tahoe...not! I asked him to find a larger SUV for me and he said he should have one that afternoon. When I called back later that day, I was told that they had rented the Traverse to someone else and they had no SUV for me. Dylan said he would try a different location and call me right back. This was at 5:00 PM on a Friday and they close at 6:00 PM. Thirty minutes goes by and no phone call. I called back and spoke with Victoria. She said that Dylan had left, but she would have him call me back. No return phone call. I called back 10 minutes before closing and Victoria said they had a Ford Escape for me...even smaller than the Traverse!!! I went to pick up the vehicle and explained my disappointment to Victoria. Victoria did not offer an apology and suggested this was all my fault. Meanwhile, Dylan (I'm told he is the manager) never did call me back! The following day (Saturday) I called Victoria to see if I could swap out the Escape for a larger vehicle. She said that I could, but I would need to call each Hertz location to check their inventories myself! She refused to check inventory for me. When I was unable to find a replacement vehicle, I called Victoria back and asked if they expected any returns. She said that she would have to check a different computer system. I asked her if she would and she agreed (although making me feel like this was going to be a big hassle). She said she would call me back; however, she never did and now they are closed! Now it's Monday and I continue to make calls trying to find a suitable replacement. I am able to find an Escalade in Santa Clarita so I call Dylan to relay the news. I call Santa Clarita back and speak with Matt 5 minutes later. He tells me he didn't realize the Escalade was going to replace an Escape and the Escalade was already reserved for someone else...5 minutes later? Yeah Right! I am a manager for a Fortune 30 company and we do millions upon millions of business with Hertz each year. I sincerely hope that they treat our clients better than I was treated! read more
