When I asked her why she did it she said she had no access to do anything or split cost or differences She then proceeded to tell me to call customer service. When I told her why she didn't call them herself to ensure she did her job right she just told me she didn't do that and I had to call. This place also doesn't do walk through with you. They just sit behind their desk and don't do anything. This is my third time renting through BUDGET/AVIS and each experience regardless of the location had been the worst. Worst rental car experience ever for me 1st what they said I was being charged was different it was supposed to be a $200 deposit hold and no mention of the deposit on the receipt I received at pickup. They charged my card $100 I don't know what that was all about the card reading machine totaled to a $200 deposit when I swiped it. 2nd after I returned the keys, they charged me a $450 cleaning fee! The car may have had a few crumbs in the floorboard that needed vacuumed out but that's it and another $85.84 for God only knows what I was unable to retrieve a receipt of total charges on their website after several attempts. I was able to get the customer service to agree to reimburse my card the $535.84 after being disconnected 3 times but now I have to wait 3-5 business days upon still waiting for the deposit to be reimbursed. Very very unsatisfied with this Budget. I agreed with other reviews I would get them a 0-rating if I could, or I would go as far as a -10. I noticed that this Budget Car Rental location has two Yelp entries. Decided that I'd go ahead and post my review onto this entry as well. Whenever I need to rent a car in Bakersfield, the Budget location at the airport is what I normally use. I will check out the prices online. Whomever is lower is the company that I go with. Usually, this branch is the lowest. Nowadays, there is no one manning the Budget counter. There is a sign which directs you to the Avis Counter nearby. I usually have no problem with any of the vehicles here or with the service provided by the staff. Have always been treated well. The couple of times that I had complaints with a rental vehicle, the staff corrected the issues right away to my satisfaction. Maybe I have been lucky the dozen times that I've rented a vehicle here the past several years. Whatever the case may be, I will continue to rent from here in the future. read more

This was by far the best experience I have ever had with a rental car place. We used the "Avis" window, so maybe Budget doesn't get the credit, but holy crap it was so good! Aaron helped us and was the nicest, most helpful dude ever. We had a two week rental going to Monterey, and he offered to change our reservation so we could get a less expensive rental when we got to Monterey. I just had the worst experience renting a dirty car from this location. I pick my vehicle up and it absolutely reeks of cigarette smoke and has a dirty men's undershirt in it. The rental location closed after I was given rental and I had to drive this car to LAX for my flight, windows down, arriving with the smoke making me sick. I call to discuss a refund and I was offered only $20 (of $80) for a FUTURE rental? This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Worst customer service ever at a Budget location. Reserved a passenger van and prepaid for it in April 2023 for a week in June 2023. Got the usual updates for the reservation before hand and all the ready for your trip emails. I get to Bakersfield and don't have a vehicle for mu reservation. The agent says they don't carry passenger vans at all at this location. What a total failure on Budgets' part. I was told a manager should of taken this vehicle off the website for rent. Don't tell me what a manager should have done, they simple didn't do their job. Supposedly the agent tried to call my cell number, bit could not connect the day of pick-up. Remember I made and paid for this reservation over 7 weeks before the week I needed it. No other vehicles available, no offer to help find another vehicle, no help with my $795 you have been holding all this time. Just try Enterprise. Maybe I should permanently use another rental company! They had over 7 weeks to notify me that it a passenger van would not be available and just waited till I showed up. If I could give 0 stars I would. The airport manager for avis budget group, James Wickersham, is a heartless, irresponsible, and inadequate manager. He could care less that he provided us with a car that leaked radiator fluid all over the place due to a radiator cap that was not put on correctly (figured that out on my own in 18 degree weather at 9 p.m at night in a state we've never been to) on the first day of driving it and 5 days later we hear the car make a ding sound and all of the sudden the car lost acceleration power and we were forced to pull over on the side of the highway in a snow storm. After moments of panic and confusion, we figured out how to navigate the dash board system that told us the keyless entry remote's battery was dead. So we found out that if that battery dies the car doesn't work in the middle of a snowstorm. I had to find a ride to the store, leaving my family in the car on the highway in snow storm, to get a battery for the remote to get the car to work again. We then decided to cut the trip short and return the car home early to discuss our issues with the manager. It did not go well and he did not want to hear our concerns. He simply stated there's nothing he could do and to call customer service. He was very rude and immediately it wasn't his problem. So to the point, Don't rent cars from here. They don't know what they're doing, the cars are not safe to drive, and you will probably end up stranded too, as well as out of pocket with no reimbursement. read more

I told them I had a reservation and they said yes they saw my reservation but they overbooked and couldn't do anything about it. I really don't understand how a reservation is made if you can't actually adhere to it. They really could care less about customer service! I placed a reservation last Wednesday to rent a truck for Friday afternoon. On Friday, I arrive and I am told they dont have any trucks available. Supposedly they called me to inform they had no trucks available. I check my missed calls, voicemail and NO calls! I am disappointed in their service! We ended up renting a van, and boy was it dirty. The seats had food stains and it looks like they may have quickly cleaned it that same day, but their method of "clean" was not properly disinfected. I have rented from budget for more than 10 years. My family always rented from budget for our car needs and I never had an issue until my most recent rental on 6/28. Since I remember there's always been only 1 person at the counter. When I arrived I was informed that the 7 seat explorer I pre-paid for online was not available and all I would be offered was a Van. I was totally upset and the gentleman tried to up-sell me stating how the van usually has "limited" mileage but for the inconvenience he would make the miles unlimited ( this was a lie)! So I made off with a Black Dodge Van with Texas license plates that had the roughest ride. It seemed almost although it either needed a tire alignment or power steering fluid as I went through curves and mountains. When I came back to return my 1-day rental, again there were 5 people including my self in line. It was close to 9:30 my original time out was maybe 9:15ish, there was another gentleman behind me awaiting to return his rental as well. So he walked up to the counter and asked if he could just leave the keys and the same gentleman of course from the day before shook his head and I thought awesome, why wait when I can do the same! Well I was wrong if I had known that the next days after returning this car would cause me so many issues I would have waited in the line for 45+ minutes. After returning the car I received an automated response at about 10 a.m that my vehicle was successfully checked in, so I thought no big deal. Again, I was so wrong. Checked my credit card statement later that week to make sure I got my holding deposit back and boom, I was hit with a total of $186.01 for a 1-day rental. So here I am scramming through their 1800 number that was a mess asking to speak with a supervisor because the call agent couldn't help me. Basically because the agent at the Budget counter checked my car in at 10 a.m the call center shows that I turned in my vehicle late. So aside from the $69 advanced payment I made for the car I got charged an additional $60.79 for an extra day plus another $31.99 for the insurance making it a total of 186! Ooh and this unlimited miles, if you go on budget.com miles for the vans are always unlimited thanks for trying that one out on me! The Van would have been actually cheaper to rent than the Explorer by about $10. I had to place an extra call because I didn't even realize that the insurance was charged xtra as well. So never again will I rent at budget , for years of renting with you I will no longer go out my way to use your service . You need to hire more people at your counter because fraudulently over charging your customers isn't going to work for me! Make sure you check your credit/bank statements ppl! read more

If I could have given zero stars, I would have. I have rented from this location numerous times over about 15 years, but yesterday I was totally disappointed. The salesman was rude and I was really offended. First, I rang the bell (once), because no one was at the front desk. As he came toward the counter from another area in the airport, he says in an agitated voice, "can I help you with something?" I'm thinking to myself "Uhh, yes, I'd like to rent a car." I simply asked what their rate was, he stated $77. I then began to ask if they offered discounts for AAA, military, etc. and before I could finish speaking, he says in an extremely irritated and loud voice "our rate is $77 if you want to rent from Avis/Budget. That's that." I couldn't believe it. I was only asking a question. He stared at me as if I wanted the car for free, and I was so I was so appalled at his attitude toward me that I just walked away. I have made reservations here before, that they've messed up, and I've never treated them like he treated me. I have never been treated so rudely here before but that was it. If this company will allow this treatment of their customers, I will never rent from Avis/Budget EVER AGAIN. No matter where. Needless to say, I rented the car, but from a competitor company who provided me with BOTH the military and AAA discounts without rudeness or question. NO STAR - Same as previous review. Never choose Budget even if they're a bit cheaper as you'll end up paying more. The Budget counter at Bakersfield Meadows airport practically ignored the reservation, and plain lied about the prepaid insurance which was charged in advanced by Allianz thru Orbitz. My friend, for whom I made the reservation for, ended up paying additional (more expensive collision waiver insurance) on top of the one I already pre-paid. I had to spend so much time and effort to try to get Allianz to refund the pre-paid rental car insurance. Budget also ignored the 2 days reservation, and charge my friend for 1 days plus a much higher rate for late return. I'd rather pay more and deal with honest people rather than have to constantly watch out for crooked counter reps trying to hoodwink customers into paying more. read more
