Hertz rented me a Chevy Equinox while my car was in the shop. It was a lemon. The battery died twice - both times before the morning school run. I contacted the Brighton location (as that was where it was due to be returned), who said they were not responsible for helping me. I got through to roadside assistance who jump started the car, but within the hour it had failed again. More time on the phone to get a tow truck out. Belle Tire tested the battery but said it wasn't damaged so they knew Hertz wouldn't let them replace it. Why didn't Hertz offer to swap it for another car at this point? The day I was to return the car, the battery died again. I rang roadside assistance and told them to tow the car to the Brighton location as that was supposed to be the drop off point. Within the hour I received an irate phone call from Hertz at Brighton wanting to know why I had sent them a dead car. 'Yes. Inconvenient isn't it?' I replied. I let the guy know that I was unhappy about the car and wanted a refund. His words were ' yeah, that's not going to happen, why do you think this is our responsibility? And why didn't you contact us in advance about the faulty car?' Listen mate, my call log shows exactly how many times I called your location's number. It just links back to the automated system, and then the AI bot Hayley, and finally to you, who abnegated responsibility time and again. I thought Hertz was a reliable company with reliable vehicles. 1 star is generous. Rented a larger vehicle because last time a jeep compass was too small. Get there and shocker they have another jeep compass for my family of 4 and all our bags. I was told they don't use the same lingo as what is listed on AAA site. Yet when I go to the site a smaller car is actually listed with jeep compass on it. I let them know I couldn't take the car because it was way too small for us per our discussion with them last time. They ended up putting me on the do not rent list because I didn't accept their tiny vehicle that wouldn't work for us. They said that was all they had. If I could give zero stars, I would. The Hertz in Brighton, Michigan has completely lost my business. As a government employee with 25+ years of public service and a business owner, I know what professional, respectful customer service looks like -- and this location delivers the exact opposite. Because I don't use a credit card, I've been treated with disrespect and condescension here multiple times. On one prior rental attempt, I used a company discount code without credentials in hand, and instead of handling it professionally, staff treated me as if I was being dishonest -- which was insulting and completely untrue. Ever since, every interaction at this location has made me feel looked down upon. The final straw came with my most recent rental (Record: H43482880, Vehicle: 2025 KIA Soul). I rented on August 14, 2025 and returned the car the next day, August 15, 2025 at 1:38 PM. The office was closed with only a sign saying staff were "in the field," so I followed instructions and left the key. To this day, I have received no receipt, no call, no acknowledgment of my return. This is not just bad service -- it's negligence. If a company can't manage something as basic as processing a return and issuing a receipt, then it shouldn't be in business. Hertz's lack of accountability, poor record-keeping, and dismissive staff behavior show a complete disregard for customers. I will never rent from Hertz again, and I plan to share this experience with my network of over 4,000 followers so others know how this company treats paying customers. This location gives the best customer service experience I've ever had when renting a car!!! Of course you might be surprised at the cost because they can't control that, dang Covid, causes so many issues with supply and demand that car rentals are averaging $50 a day or more. This location makes it very easy to do business with them. They have a large parking lot that's private so there's no problem getting into and out of this Hertz location. All the gentleman that I have interacted with here on pick up and return of the car have been friendly, helpful, cheerful and have even help me with directions both coming and going as I am directionally challenged and forever lost!!! I would strongly recommend that you pre-book your rental and if you are solid in your plans paying at the time of rental is definitely less costly. However, I generally pay at pick up because at this time in my life I need to be very flexible. I'm traveling back-and-forth between Michigan and Texas quite a bit! If you do pay in advance I'm pretty sure it's irreversible. Anyway this location is great- if you need a rental car ...give them a try. read more

Will never use Hertz in Brighton, MI again. Upon returning the rental van, we were charged an extra cleaning fee for "transporting animals". We agreed to pay the fee, but DID NOT transport any animals in the vehicle. Stated "the vehicle was covered in hair"...not true in any way. The vehicle was used for business purposes only for two weeks...it had some lint and what could have been human hair, but nothing unusual. We were basically accused of lying. The employee who attended to us was rude from start to finish. Do not use this Hertz facility. There are other car rental companies in the Brighton area that provide at least some customer service. read more

I rent at Hertz frequently and they are my favorite car rental company and I am a Gold member. I occasionally rent at non airport locations like Brighton. I have rented from the Waterford location a dozen times and everything has always been excellent there. When I rented here they gave me a dirty car on the outside, looked like it had been wiped down with a dirty rag and the inside of the windows had smears and smudges. The car also had 1/2 of a tank but it was near closing so I took the car anyway. They charged me for a full tank even though I noted that I was given the car with 1/2 tank when I dropped the keys off. They only had one person working who looked like he had to do rentals as well as washing and cleaning cars. He was not especially friendly. I love Hertz but something is wrong at this location. read more

My parents rented a car through the Brighton Hertz while visiting from Florida. This was the second time they rented from here. No issues the first time, but this time was a different story. My parents just needed a car for the day to do some visiting. They dropped the keys off on a Thursday night in the drop box and when my parents got back to Florida, they saw that they were being charged $200 extra. When they called about it, they were told that they never received the keys in the drop box until Monday so they were being charged for the weekend. Meanwhile, no one called to ask where the keys were? Very suspicious. My parents have been on the phone with Ainsley numerous times, and she is saying that my parents dropped the keys on Monday. It's basically her word against theirs. My parents have contacted corporate, and now they're having to fight the charges through their credit card. We don't know if there is a scam going on here, but we will never rent again. read more

Life savers! Not entirely sure if I just lucked out, but honestly, Hertz truly saved me. After my fiasco with Enterprise, I went to Hertz. They had a car ready, had cheaper prices, and the staff was helpful, understanding and super friendly. I had Nate help me. Super nice guy. Had two cars available when I arrived and asked if I had a preference. Took my information and payment. Washed the car and filled up the tank a little more (knowing I was headed to Grand Rapids). Waived a $200 fee because I couldn't afford it. Just a very reliable, well managed company. I highly recommend them, and if you go to this location, ask for Nate. They're all fantastic people, but Nate worked with me to get everything I wanted in this rental car. read more

Terrible experience here. We will definitely never be going back. First of all, those pictures are definitely not actual pictures of the Hertz building at this location. It is a tiny room with one desk and on our particular day, one person working. Upon arrival to pick up our car that had been reserved at least 10 days in advance, there was a small line of about 4 people ahead of us. We got there at 8:30 to pick up our rental. When we walked in, one of the other customers asked, "Are you returning that one??" I declined and said no, it was our vehicle and we were actually coming to pick up a rental. At that time, everyone in line ahead of us groaned and the guy in the front of the line said he'd been there since 7:30am and they don't have enough cars. The one guy working was still trying to clean the one car he did have for the first gentleman who had been waiting over an hour. Needless to say, we never got our rental from here and had to call around to other local Hertz companies to find a place that had a car for us which luckily, one did. Was on the way to pick up car and a "Stephon" called and said the car would not be ready at 11am as promised, asked if we could come in at 12-12:30 and would be ready. Was not ready at that time. Location "Manager" Nate told us that we would receive free Hertz Insurance due to the wait (car would not be there now until about 3pm (Ins. was going to be put on AAA before he said this) and also was supposed to be 2 drivers on car. We had requested Mid. size car and all they had at the time was a Toyota Yarris which is smaller than the Ford Fiesta I have and that just won't work for a long trip with 4 people. Well the car wasn't ready at that time either and I could not be available for either later time( 3pm-??)so they ended up picking up the other driver at our home after 6:30pm I believe and threw the paper work together and shuffled him out the door while turning off the lights and locking up. Now it's about 7pm. Well to make a long story even longer, we looked at the contract( the legal binding contract) Driver #2 was not put on the contract and it also said that we had declined Insurance coverage. Called the corporate office and was told yes other driver is not on contract and we had declined coverage and if anything happened that would be what they would go by. Nothing could be done about it until Monday morning(2 days away) and we had already lost a day of travel. Also told we would be upgraded to a full size and that did not happen either. The car we did get was filthy and smelled like a barn. Opened trunk and it had old pop bottles and chicken feathers in it. LOL had a good laugh about that anyways and made up our own theory. Called credit card co. and was told they would insure car but we ended up cancelling trip because of all the lost time. When we took the car back Nate tried telling us that I (second driver) was put "on the backend" of the contract and he said that we did have the Hertz Insurance but it did not show on the contract. Well when we told him we called the Corporate office he got snooty with us and said "Well I'm not going to stand here and argue with you I've been here for four years." I told him and we have been renting from here for 10 years. Maybe he has been there 4 years but we rent a car usually twice a year and had never saw him before and I know for a fact he was not the "Location Manager" as of July 2014 the last time we rented from here. We still have that guys card. End result poor service, also had to pay for a full day even though the car was not picked up until about 7pm- it said 11am pick up on the car-and he stuck to that part of the contract-payed cash and watched credit card like a hawk to make sure they did not add any made up charges. read more

Waited over an hour to receive a pre-reserved vehicle. They had one person working the desk who was actually washing cars while there were 4 people in line. All other customers in the office were complaining of dirty cars or not receiving the car they reserved. Then I was told they could not accept the bank issued credit/debit card I used to reserve the car with (it was accepted online) and forced me to use another credit card. They over charged that card by almost $60 because they were not there during business hours when I returned the car. A note was posted that said be back in 5, but my wife waited 30 min before deciding to drop keys in the overnight slot. We called the corporate help line and no one has called back for two weeks. This is one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. read more

Terrible experience, In fact this was more of a nightmare!! I reserved a full size car for spring break and showed up to the office to find they only had compact cars available for me. Luckily (or so I thought) another man decided he didn't want his full size car so they let us rent that one. so we were happy and enjoyed our vacation until we returned to find out we had been driving the car all week in the guy who decided to pass on the cars name. still we settled this problem gave them my credit card information instead of this poor stranger who had been charged for something he didn't use and went on my way thinking I would only be charged $233 as told before I left. NOPE, checked my bank account later and there was the $233 charge plus a $433 charge so I called and was promised it would be resolved NOPE they than not only kept the two charges in my account now they pulled another $233 out my account.
