This is what Alamo should have done, but Hertz came through. The employee Alexis stayed to 2:15am assisting us, and it was a smooth process. So props to her and Alamo helping at 2:15am, preventing some late stranded passengers like us. read more

This is the worst Hertz location in the country. The staff here have decided to not stock and replenish vehicles in the President's Circle or Gold member areas because the weekends are "too busy". You book with the expectation of heading straight to a car, but in the end you have to wait in a long line at the rental counter. It's a misleading bait and switch, and no one here seems to care at all about clear communication or treating Hertz's most loyal customers with respect. When we finally got our vehicle, the gas tank was not full and we found a used bandage in the passenger side door. Renting here was a true nightmare for our family, and a mistake we will never make again. read more

I don't normally write negative reviews, but this experience was so poor that I hope it helps people avoid Hertz at Chicago Midway. I prepaid and reserved a rental, and when I got there, the woman at the front desk said it would be a minimum of a 20-minute wait. I was confused, because I rent cars all the time throughout the country, and I've never had this happen. Additionally, she was very brash, rude, and showed no consideration. Minutes later, a woman who was also waiting went to ask the person at the front desk a question, and she gave the customer an attitude. This is simply a sign of ineffective management and poor customer service. After I waited 30 minutes, a manager came over and said I could take a minivan right away at the same price. Why didn't the woman at the front offer me the same thing? He told us as if we should have known that already. The car itself was fine, and returning it wasn't an issue. On my extended trip, I rented from other companies without any delay or rudeness. Therefore, I will not be renting from Hertz again, considering there are much better options with better customer service and timely reservations. As for this specific location, I hope that management reads this and decides to train their employees on how to treat customers and organize their inventory. Until they vastly improve their operation, I encourage everyone to avoid Hertz at Chicago Midway. read more

Our vehicle was reserved and paid for. when we got there we saw our name on the board to pick up but no vehicles were there . There were at least 8 groups waiting and talking to a man that was in charge who seemed to care less. we told him we had a car reserved but he said "no cars are available wait in line as they come in " and no specific time was given . We cancelled and went to another rental who was able to get us the rental on the spot however it cost $100 more but we were able to get to our destination on time. We have used Hertz for work and personal for over 30 years but no more ! we asked for someone to call us back and zero communication. Horrible customer service ...Do Better!! read more

Rented a car from Hertz for a little over a week while I was traveling to Chicago. I scheduled the return time to drop the car off at 2pm on 6/20 well before my flight which took off at 7:15am. Upon landing I get my receipt from Hertz and I see a $12 late return fee which was weird because I dropped my car off at 4:30am and it was a 2pm drop off. I called customer service to ask what the deal was and sat on hold for 30 minutes waiting for a customer service rep. Finally somebody answered me so I asked about the charges and he politely looked into it. After being on hold for a bit longer he came back and told me he would refund me the $12 late fee but could not give me a voucher for a future rental for the inconvenience. He also told me that they were making an EXCEPTION for this refund!? I asked what for since the car was returned on time, I wasn't sure what the exception was for? I find it super sleazy you're gonna squeeze $12 charge out of people for something that is factual incorrect. I'd like to know how many others have also been charged this fee when it was turned in on time? I got my money back, no voucher which is ok but Hertz won't be getting my money again. TLDR: they charged me a $12 late fee when the car was turned in hours earlier than when it was due. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ AT MIDWAY. I made a reservation to pick up my car at Midway at 11:45 pm. Tried to check in at 11:56 and got a message saying that I couldn't check in because they closed at 11:30. I went to the front desk where the attendant told me his "system" was down and there was "nothing [he] could do." Hey, hertz: if you can't check people in at 11:56, DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO MAKE RESERVATIONS AT 11:45. And if your system is down, don't leave people stranded in Chicago. The threat of being left stranded meant this was the single worst customer experience I have ever had in my life. I had to try two other rental car companies before I got to enterprise, which was able to rent me a car within five minutes. Much better service and much more helpful. To cap it all off, Hertz tried to charge me a NO SHOW FEE. Can you believe that? read more

Barely 3 stars. How come the counter employee or counter manager could not see the original invoice details? Manager Special AAA discount is great if the counter did not want to add $400 to it at pickup. They could see it was a a manager's special but had no control of the add'l billing? Billing assured me no added charges to 1wk 188.04 5days at 26.89 ea. manager special. See counter charges attached. I called billing (and there is NO PROMPT for billing) and created Case 24870241 800-654-4173, Stressful waiting 12 days to return car to be billed plus 9 more to get the credit on the card. My experience here was interesting. I've never had to check in and step to the side and wait to be called back to finish my paperwork. It was like Hertz was short-staffed. I waited for almost 30 minutes to get my car. Other than that, I do appreciate the kindness of the woman helping me. She was quite patient and had a great attitude. STAY AWAY!!! I rented a car from Hertz and needed to add an additional driver. Customer service directed me to their Midway location, and that's when the nightmare began. Upon arrival, they demanded my passport, even though I had already provided my Real ID and driver's license--the same documents I used to rent the car. What happened next was outrageous: They trapped us inside the garage! Despite not renting the car from this location, the station manager, Will, treated us like criminals and wouldn't let us leave. We were forced to abandon the car two days before the rental period ended. This was one of the worst experiences of my life. I strongly urge you to avoid Hertz at Midway. I asked if this was normal and the counter lady said it depends on which day. I've never had this kind of experience at a rental car company. I arrived right on time to pick up my car...but was told there would be no cars available for another 2 hours. This was the second time this has happened at this branch; there were a few people waiting around till their turn came around, and I shared the elevator with 2 more people who got stranded and changed companies. I was able to switch to another company for only a few bucks more, but I felt bad for those who did not have flexibility with their reservations. I have had good luck in the past, with this branch, so will hope that this will clear itself up soon and the company will allocate enough cars to this branch...meanwhile, the shortage seems chronic. read more

An evening of problems. First we were suppose to get the keys and go- as we paid everything ahead. the terminal wouldn't accept our card, a differ terminal did. Then we went to leave the garage with our 3 kids under 8 in tow. The garage wouldn't let us out bc they didn't give us our paper contract. By now it's 1 in the morning. We ended up turning the car in the same night and left to a hotel. I called 911 and 311 to get us out of the garage. There was no one on site and there was no one to help us online or on phone. The car was returned to an agent - who walked around the car, opened the driver door to check mileage (?) and said we were "good to go". A person your company rented a vehicle to in association with Uber hit my vehicle on November 19, 2023. He didn't have his own personal insurance. So I had to jump through hoops for over a month calling Uber and other insurance company to find out who would be responsible for the damages done to my vehicle. Finally I got in touch with a guy by the name of Mr woods from hertz and he told me who would be handling my claim but they are backed up 15 days. Someone will contact me after the, about 30 days later a lady by the name of Michelle pritchard with esis insurance contacted me and started the claim process and was going to attempt to retrieve my vehicle from the tow yard. After she found out what the total cost of the tow and storage would be she informed me that her company would not be able to retrieve my vehicle because of the overall cost. Remind you that I've been contacting hertz and there claims department since day one of the accident and with there negligence or not being proactive for two months the bill was super high and I was told that there's nothing they can do for me. I had to come out of my own pocket $4800 to get my vehicle towed out of the tow yard which the tow was an additional $200. Before getting my vehicle back she told me that they were just going to deem my vehicle a total loss which I was fine with but days later she told me they couldn't do anything for me on that part either. So collectively I'm out of 5 grand plus a 2022 bmw paperweight that doesn't run and is just sitting on the city street collecting tickets. Wow this is so messed up. The crazy part about this is they are saying that since it's a multi car accident they can't do anything with my car but I've worked in the insurance field before and know that they can handle each car separately and if any other damage come about or they noticed about they can just do a supplementary Addendum to add more damages to the claims. They could pay me for my vehicle which she already told me was about 38 thousand dollars then add the 3 persons vehicle damage at a later date. Hell they are just going to sue their own uninsured driver for all the damages anyway so the idea of them saying their insurance policy can't cover everyone's vehicle smh how in the hell could a multi million dollar business not be able to cover around 50 to 60 thousand dollars in property damages that their driver caused. I don't think hertz understands the financial hardship they have put me in. Not only have I had to pay out of pocket for transportation over the past 5 months but they didn't nor even ask if they could provide me with a rental car while they figure out what's going on read more

I have to say that this was one of the best Hertz experiences I've had in a long time. Given that the airport experience at MDW generally sucks, I was pleasantly surprised that this rental location exceeded my expectations. Nice job to their entire team for doing so. My disclosure is that I am a very frequent renter and am in their President's Circle Club which supposedly gets me an area to choose better cars and more premium service. Most of the time, the cars available to me are mediocre at best and I can't really tell that my treatment or experience is any better than anyone else's. At this rental, I had a good selection of vehicles including a really nice Suburban (which I did not take because I was alone and it would have felt a bit excessive) and a brand new Jeep Cherokee (had less than 250 miles on it) which I did grab. It was an awesome choice. Upon check out I was greeted courteously, given a bottle of water and my choices for no fuel or insurance options were confirmed. There was no attempt at upselling. The gate attendant simply confirmed that I had what I wanted. I was clear in under 60 seconds. It would be great if this was a consistent Hertz experience at all locations. Sadly it is not but the Hertz MDW crew on April 16 delivered. Well done! read more

I was very disappointed. You pay a premium for Hertz for ease of service and process, even if you're not a Gold member. Even super cheap providers like Thrifty and Enterprise have their lot staff accessorized with a hand held device to check you out and print your final bill. Not at Hertz in this location. The lot staff just checked my cotract, mrked off with a pen things such as full tank and mileage, and sent me inside to check out and get the bill. I had to go inside and wait in line with the contract marked up and it took me 10 minutes to speak to a desk agent. One bus to the terminal left and I had to wait for the next one. Do not use this bus if you don't have more than enough time to get to your flight. We literally just sat 30 MINUTES for the bus to fill up with passengers before heading out. The service here was horrible. When they pulled up my car, I could hear something dragging. I told one of the attendants and he proceeded TO RIP OFF PART OF THE BUMPER and then I said, um, shouldn't I get a different car? And he said, no, it's fine now. I marked this on the pre-inspection sheet and a month later got a phone call saying that I owed money for bumper damage. But I didn't get a call from Hertz; it was some financial service that they'd contracted out and the guy I talked with couldn't believe Hertz never contacted me. Do absolutely whatever you can to AVOID BOOKING AT THIS LOCATION. Landed at Midway from LAX this past Saturday afternoon. Yes, it was Labor Day weekend. No, a holiday is never an excuse for unprofessionalism, carelessness, or rudeness. My boyfriend and I waited in line after hopping off the shuttle, and there were 5 or 6 people ahead of us with just 2 people occupying their 6-person desk team. NINETY MINUTES LATER we were finally on our way, but not without receiving difficulties from Cristina at the desk, who was friendly and chit-chatty with a woman ahead of us and extremely rude and unhelpful once we arrived at her desk. The kicker after all of the drama and complications of pre-paying in full through AAA was that we were given an upgraded car, only to be told as we were exiting that the car we were in had a hold on it to be at a dealership. We had to get out, get all of our stuff, and wait another 5-10 minutes for our replacement car. I called corporate today, and of course they're "experiencing high call volumes." I'd rather rent a crippled pony than rely on Hertz ever again for my transportation on vacation. read more

We rented this car after coming to this airport. Unfortunately, all of the mid size cars were booked, however the lady in the counter told us we can rent a Hyundai hybrid without any additional cost. Unfortunately, she could not even pronounce the name and was not close, but she was willing to work with us. The car inside was clean and full of gasoline which is a plus. The car ran fine and fun to drive as I am thinking of buying the car. So why not a 5 star, unfortunately, the toll tags were the most confusing of all as when you slide the pass, it was stuck inside, but did not work. We were worried that when we cross the toll line we would get billed as it was confusing as hell. Anyways it was not till the last day of the trip, we would not worry as it we saw it was hidden inside. Anyways the good new is the tolls we were charged were the price we were expecting so that is a good. I would rent from Hertz again. read more
