Here is the car sitting in the return lot at 4:39am 6/20. Have to love timestamps on pictures!

Rented a car from Hertz for a little over a week while I was traveling to Chicago. I scheduled the return time to drop the car off at 2pm on 6/20 well before my flight which took off at 7:15am. Upon landing I get my receipt from Hertz and I see a $12 late return fee which was weird because I dropped my car off at 4:30am and it was a 2pm drop off. I called customer service to ask what the deal was and sat on hold for 30 minutes waiting for a customer service rep. Finally somebody answered me so I asked about the charges and he politely looked into it. After being on hold for a bit longer he came back and told me he would refund me the $12 late fee but could not give me a voucher for a future rental for the inconvenience. He also told me that they were making an EXCEPTION for this refund!? I asked what for since the car was returned on time, I wasn't sure what the exception was for? I find it super sleazy you're gonna squeeze $12 charge out of people for something that is factual incorrect. I'd like to know how many others have also been charged this fee when it was turned in on time? I got my money back, no voucher which is ok but Hertz won't be getting my money again. TLDR: they charged me a $12 late fee when the car was turned in hours earlier than when it was due.

This is the Hertz employee who physically assaulted me at the counter.

Was physically assaulted by a Hertz counter employee after I attempted to question an erroneous charge they tried charging me after my reservation had been paid in full months beforehand. You can see his pose as he does to knock my phone out of my hand as I was taking this picture. Stay away from this location and Hertz in general.

Would have been 395.88 additional if I did not get corporate on the phone while manager at counter changed it.

I'm a gold member and yet this will likely be the last time I rent with Hertz. At initial check in…read morethey were friendly, but when I got in the car, I noticed it smelled severely of air freshener. I assumed this was just related to the cleaning and was exhausted after a long day, so took the car into the city where I was staying. Didn't end up driving at the next day, but the day after I got in and noticed a severe cigarette sent and a cigarette burn on the driver side seat. In addition, the cigarette or small storage area in the console was sticky and dirty, and the cover for the back storage area was obviously from a different vehicle, did not fit, and took up a large portion of the rearview mirror space. None of this had been noted prior to renting the Car. I stopped at three Hertz locations and was told they did not have any cars that I could trade out for. RJ with reservations told me these locations would have cars, but said he couldn't reserve any for me and couldn't make any promises. Elijah at the State Street Chicago location walked away from me, after telling me there were no cars and did not offer any type of support or even a phone number to call for assistance. Larry at Midway location (again, where I was told cars were available on the phone) told me there was nothing for me and would hardly even make eye contact. He also mentioned that it was Saturday so I shouldn't really expect anything and that there wasn't really any customer service or manager available. When I asked about options, he just handed me the customer service booklet and again ignored any further questions that I had. Overall, I spent half a day trying to figure this out and still got nowhere. I spent over an hour on hold with no one even picking up the phone just calling and dialing multiple locations without getting any assistance. Extremely disappointed with the customer service experience even with gold status!

I was in line for over an hour to be seen. I rented an intermediate SUV, but they only had large pickup trucks. I took the offer. The check- in staff was professional and friendly given the circumstances. They provided a fuel credit due to the inconvenience. The pickup was too big for my needs. Difficult to maneuver. Many of the features that should be available on a large vehicle were not equipped or programmed, especially the parking technology. My car lacked wrap- around cameras to assist parking, proximity warnings when close to objects, or back up warnings. The back- up camera was imprecise. I had no functional trunk. My drop-off experience was poor. It was Easy to drop off. One agent was friendly and helpful. The other public- facing agents were uncaring or rude. My agent barely spoke to me and didn't ask basic questions about returning the vehicle. Offered no assistance. I also had bad experience with staff in preferred member area. Five minutes after returning car, I realized that I had missing items. The friendly return agent directed me to the desk agent. The desk agent was openly dismissive and rude to me . Suggested that that my reason for checking the car was not important. She was dismissive and didn't want to offer help. This is not an exaggeration. This experience makes me less likely to rent a vehicle from this vendor at that location.

After 20 minutes they have a Durango but I have to call customer service cancel my original reservation and rebook for the Durango. Per customer service over the phone NO CARS WERE AVAILABLE! And to top it off the young lady working the counter 05/22 at 4pm, was rude and not helpful. Please don't rent from here!

We rented our car through Costco so when we got there we did not have to wait in the line downstairs, we went upstairs to the checkout and there was no line and it went very smooth. They did not have the Camry we were supposed to get, so instead they gave us a 4 door Jeep for the same price. It seemed like ok deal. Turns out the Jeep was a hybrid but the battery wasnt charged so it was like a normal car with small gas tank. We were not driving that much so it didnt matter. One thing specifically about Jeeps which I did not know, but should have expected, is the ride is pretty rough and bumpy. Now I know, I should not get one in the future. It was a nice looking car with plenty of space, just rough ride.

The guy at the counter had no empathy, sense of urgency or fux to give. It's one of those moments where you just exercise some patience because you still need a car. After waiting an hour, I was asked if a Mustang would be ok. At this point, I really want to break up with them so I tell them guy yes. Get to the adjacent garage and began to take note of the existing damage on the car. Nothing alarming but nothing I wanted attributed to me. The car hadn't been cleaned out, off and the windshield was really cloudy. No big deal but the windshield washing fluid was empty. So back inside I go to talk to Mr. Unbothered. The representative who tracks incoming cars, took it and washed it, filled the washer fluid and tried to make me feel a little better about the situation. When I was waiting, I asked the agent how I'd be compensated for my inconvenience. He shrugged his shoulders and said the car I was going to be put in was an upgrade. I'm not a Mustang person so this rang hollow. I then insisted that he adjust the rental time to only reflect the time I had the car. He agreed and went back to doing next to nothing. I had no issues returning the vehicle. As a rule, I take a picture of the fuel and miles to be able to confirm that I did refuel it and no surprise charges occur. Keep in mind when you are arriving or returning to allow time to take the shuttle back to the terminal. Customer service is minimal here. No one answers the phone when you call and the in person experience leave something to be desired. I do plan to use other car rental agencies in the future as I was not happy with the experience at this location.
