Got a car here after my car accident because State Farm provides Hertz rental cars. This location gets a low rating from me for the following reasons: 1. I didn't get an option to select which car I wanted 2. When I got my car, it was dirty and not at all cleaned 3. Had to wait a long time due to the place being understaffed 4. For some strange reason takes about 20-30 minutes to get a connection with Lyft in order to pick you up or take you back to your car In fact, the only reason I didn't give this place a 1 star is because I thought that the staff there were cool personalities once you got a chance to talk to them. It's possible that all these issues could have been avoided if they had 1-2 more people working but I understand that it's a business. read more

We rented the car at Chicago Midway airport. We returned it after 2 days. There was no damage, and we were checked out by a human. Then 2 days later, I am told there was damage. The photos they sent showed NO DAMAGE. They are charging me $50. Just an excuse to get more money. I am so disappointed and angry. We tried calling and got someone who clearly was reading a script. I'm a gold member and yet this will likely be the last time I rent with Hertz. At initial check in they were friendly, but when I got in the car, I noticed it smelled severely of air freshener. I assumed this was just related to the cleaning and was exhausted after a long day, so took the car into the city where I was staying. Didn't end up driving at the next day, but the day after I got in and noticed a severe cigarette sent and a cigarette burn on the driver side seat. In addition, the cigarette or small storage area in the console was sticky and dirty, and the cover for the back storage area was obviously from a different vehicle, did not fit, and took up a large portion of the rearview mirror space. None of this had been noted prior to renting the Car. I stopped at three Hertz locations and was told they did not have any cars that I could trade out for. RJ with reservations told me these locations would have cars, but said he couldn't reserve any for me and couldn't make any promises. Elijah at the State Street Chicago location walked away from me, after telling me there were no cars and did not offer any type of support or even a phone number to call for assistance. Larry at Midway location (again, where I was told cars were available on the phone) told me there was nothing for me and would hardly even make eye contact. He also mentioned that it was Saturday so I shouldn't really expect anything and that there wasn't really any customer service or manager available. When I asked about options, he just handed me the customer service booklet and again ignored any further questions that I had. Overall, I spent half a day trying to figure this out and still got nowhere. I spent over an hour on hold with no one even picking up the phone just calling and dialing multiple locations without getting any assistance. This is the worst customer service I've ever received Jasmine has red dreadlocks in a little ponytail at the top of her head she watched me approach the facility and rushed to the front door and place a small note that entitles going to fire stone returning shortly call her personal number 773-923-7414 She told us to drop off the rental before 5 o'clock I got here before 5 o'clock and the doors are locked she literally sat and watched me pull up and rush to the door to lock it and ran out the back door. I requested a pickup truck for my rental. I waited nearly 2.5 hours while the representative made phone calls and sent email for approval for a vehicle that was on the premises. Because I could not wait around, the representative suggested that i take a smaller suv and come back the next day to exchange. I called the next day but there was still no pick up truck. I called the day after and no pickup truck. There was no urgency to give me the vehicle I originally requested. I spent a week in a Chevy Equinox while I needed a pickup truck for work. The staff at this location was not helpful at all. There was no on site manager and no one was capable of making decisions on site. I will not recommend this location for business. read more

Tracie at Hertz Midway was AMAZING!!! She showed us the finest chicago hospitality even during this pandemic!! Super personable and friendly and got us the best and cleanest car on the lot!! She was sooo fun that she had 3 keys in a box and told me to choose one!! It was the nicest car rental we've ever had!!! It's our 17 wedding anniversary weekend! It's a shame that a reputable company like Hertz is operating a location like this. After a car accident State Farm referred us here. Many attempts were made to reserve a vehicle here but the associates were not able to confirm or "locate" a car for us. Once we said we were contacting State Farm, to complain and go else where, miraculously a car came available...it was filthy and in poor condition. The associate informed us that as as soon another car was available we'd be contacted. Seeing the previous reviews and the same complaints. Apparently Hertz could careless to try to improve the conditions and service. The worst honestly. read more

If I could give no stars I absolutely would. I rented a car and went to pick it up. The people there were so unprofessional and just rude. I was a bother to them. States they had no cars for me. Then found one. Said it wasn't vacuumed. I said that was fine. It was cold and snowy out. But this is the condition of the car they gave me. In addition it had less then a 1/4 of tank of gas. Drove it home. Next day tried to start it and wouldn't start. Had to call there roadside assistance. As soon as they got it started I returned the car and went elsewhere. No apology. No nothing. Hertz and State Farm have teamed up to make my car accident experience absolute hell on earth. When my car was totaled by an ignorant teenager mid-October, State Farm stepped forward to give me a rental car... For 7 whole days. Such a great time frame to buy a new one! (I have to have a car for work, too!) So I ended up at this Hertz. The sales rep was nice enough but the first car (according to him, the only car they had) was an absolute death trap. I pulled out onto busy Archer Avenue and the accelerator was off by a good five seconds, meaning I was rolling in this little car at 5 MPH into oncoming 40 MPH traffic. I was very lucky to get the car back to their lot without any damage, and had about 3 more close accidents just in those few minutes. The rep apologized and magically found me a different car that had trash from the last rental. That I didn't care about so much, seeing as they probably weren't prepared to rent the car that day just yet. Then the real nightmare began. I used up my 7 day grace period with State Farm and called to extend my reservation for 3 more weeks at the discounted rate. It was my understanding over the phone that they would hold a deposit on my card and then charge the balance when I returned the vehicle. I thought nothing of the situation (I still have 3 days left) until today when I received two nasty voicemails from Hertz corporate. Apparently they had not put in my extension and were considering the car to be stolen at this point. I frantically put all my work aside and tried to reach a human, which took nearly an hour. Their phone system is an absolute joke. I finally got to someone who said she couldn't handle the extension and I would have to contact the location I rented from. Fine. She transferred the line over and they put me on hold. After 10 minutes I was hung up on. I called the store back directly and was again put on hold. Again they hung up on me. Hertz, I do not have time for this bullshit. I live and work on the other side of this city and have had quite enough. You will receive your car on Friday as night we agreed upon. In the meantime, I have had to contact my attorney about the car being reported stolen, as I am liable to be arrested for vehicular theft until the car's return because of this inexcusable jackassery. You have made my post-accident life a living hell. read more

Holy s*%#! I don't even know where to begin with this Hertz location of Archer Heights. This was by far the worst car rental experience I have ever had. To begin with, the car I received was very filthy with the smell of urine in the driver seat (seat was wet by the way). I had to buy supplies and basically clean this mess myself! After spending a whole day driving to different hertz locations, I was able to finally find a clean vehicle. We could have used this time to enjoy our vacation. I called hertz to get an extension on my rental, when I turned in the car to archer heights on the day of the extension, they ended up charging me an extra day anyway. Even though the extension was done over the phone with a lower cost. I'm sorry but I don't think I will ever rent from hertz again. ALSO, they did not offer a shuttle or ride to the airport after we asked. The staff at archer heights was extremely rude and very unhelpful. If you are reading this, please take my advice and DO NOT rent from this location- unless you want a horrible rental car experience. read more

I don't really know why they have so many bad reviews. Two days ago my husband and I went to get a rental through State Farm. They were super nice to us, they helped us the best they could. We got our car right away and it was clean on the inside. They maybe got new staff or something but they were very professional with us. They never gave us attitude they were amazing help and very professional. I do recommend this place, or maybe we just got lucky and got a good representative helping us. I would give zero stars if I could. I flew into Midway & found out that even though this location is next to the airport, the shuttle doesn't take you there. So I had to pay for a $10 Uber to drive me the short distance. So I get there & am told that I need proof of insurance (aka my insurance card) to rent a car. I didn't have that & offered to look up my insurance online, but No, only an insurance card would do. I was given the impression that I either get their insurance or I can't rent the car. I found out later that wasn't true. Unethical & left a very bad taste in my mouth. And getting my money back that was stolen from me was much harder than it needed to be. They were clearing short on staff and my pick up should be at 1 and I had to wait for for than an hour to get a person talking to me. I think the reason this place has such low rating is because it's under staffed but the workers there are friendly and have great personalities. I came to return my car after hours, it was snowing, and TBH i didn't know what I was going. Calvin (one of the workers) was coming out and it's after hours so doesn't have to help me out at. But he went above and beyond. My phone wasn't working and he let me borrow his. He even helped me park and returned the key for me. Will not honor their own reservations. 2 separate times: I have made a reservation online, received a confirmation number online and made plans to get to the Hertz location. Then, sometime the next day I get a phone call and someone explains to me that they will not be giving me a car. Then, they cancel my reservation and I have to find another way to get a car. I really dont care if they don't want to rent me a car, but why accept the reservation? It's not like I make multiple reservations at different agencies as a back up. There is a lot of bad reviews on here, but we experienced only exceptional service while we were here. This is a small office which may not be staffed with many people at times, but we were fine. We didn't have to wait, because there were no other customers there at the same time. I apologize that I don't have names on here, I don't remember names very well. The man who helped us was extremely friendly and professional. A young man drove us back to the airport, he was very kind and friendly. I will never be using Hertz for any future car rentals. They knew what car shop I was going to have to be picked up from for a week and on the day I needed it they told me they did not pick up from there. I also called several times and when I finally got an answer they asked for my name and number so they could call me back by 1:00 pm (it was a Saturday). Absolutely stellar service. Going into this (insurance provided) I read some reviews which for the most part are quite negative. I would assume the management and staff since then has change, and believe me when I tell you it's 5 star service. The two ladies that work there now are very professional and genuine and made sure to put me in a double upgrade after the vehicle I was renting was recalled by the manufacturer. They also provided me with an uber to my repair facility to collect my vehicle. I would highly recommend giving them a chance as they have improved their service and staff tremendously, and would love to see the staff progress within the company. I want to start off with how extremely unprofessional this entire establishment is. I was having my car repaired in a shop and called several and I mean SEVERAL days in advance to ask if they had cars that were readily available. From the beginning it was a back and forth thing where no one was picking up the phone , then someone answered named Bella, who put me on hold for ten minutes and then I guess forgot about the call because I had to call back at which point she told me she was was understaffed and would call me back- of course she never did. Day two, I called back again and explained that no one had called me back and I needed an SUV, now someone else told me that they would have a vehicle ready for me and that they would call me back- once again no one called me back. DAY THREE, I show up to the rental place that opens up at 7:30AM because I needed to be in and out ASAP , the girl who was behind the front desk took 20 minutes to just get herself together and finally told me that there was only a VERSA available after I clearly said that I had needed an SUV and mentioned that I had been calling for days now. They gave me a Toyota Yaris with a Florida plate that was about to expire at the end of the month. They didn't give me the option to pick my car. The car was so dirty and that their wipers broke. If I could give 0 stars, I would. On two separate occasions, I came here only to get shut down both times. First time, yesterday, they said i needed a reservation and proof of insurance. The ladies working there were extremely rude and when i would ask question they would shrug their shoulders or just stare at me. Did not take the time to help me out at all. Made a reservation last night, came back this morning only to be told I did not follow instructions...same ladies, same rude responses. "As you can see, we have no cars, the lots empty so." I have tried this location several times. The customer service is awful. They are rude and make you wait. I had to wAit for a hour and I am a gold card member. The car was dirty and the windshield wipers didn't work. I thought I was getting a safe car not so much. I am thinking my business should go to Enterprise.
