Hands down the worst car rental place on this planet. I'd like a phone call from corporate after all the crap the agent and manager put me thru. I booked a suv at a great rate and up Until then things were fine. When I landed and got to the desk to check my rental out, the female behind the counter asked for my passport. I was a little taken back, I didn't need a passport to board the plane from Puerto Rico to LA, LA to Oregon. I told her I don't need a passport to rent a car and she was rude AF and continue to say yes. She finally went in the back and talked to a manager, a manager that never got off their lazy butt to come help a customer in need who was about to be stranded. She told me I was from Another country and I needed a passport, that my driver license from Puerto Rico was valid in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! She told me unless I had a passport I was screwed. I found my passport card and presented it and by that point she had already decided that she wasn't gonna give me the car, probably cause I made her look stupid asking me for a passport to a country that's part of the us territory. I was on the verge of crying being bullied by the female behind the country. They left me feeling helpless and screwed. When I went to the other desk rentals like enterprises, Alamo, Avis, they all could rent to me no problem. The problem at that point I was I'm paying peak prices because now I don't have a car reserved ahead of time and their rush-hour was between 12-2 for clients already made reservations. I ended up getting a way smaller car for five times the amount because Hertz screwed me over. On top of that Hertz actually charged me For the rental and said it was my fault. ARE U FOR REAL LIFE HERTZ!?? You treated me like dogshit and then charged me and continued to treat me like dogshit with no understanding to the matter. It wasn't until I threaten a charge back for fraud they actually reversed the charges. The CEO said he made changes to Avoid these problems happening to us again and it happened again ! Mine wasn't as bad as this family veteran but it was one of my worst experiences I've ever had. Ps, i'm also a military veteran and how your employees demonstrated disrespect, disgrace and dishonor will always be unforgettable. How does every other car rental place allow me To rent but yours? The only explanation I got was my drivers license is coming up as red flag and they can't help me, the end. I sent this letter in Photos to Hertz. I got a response that they would get back to me within three days. It's been over a week now and I've heard nothing back from them. I have attached that letter and photos. Dear Hertz Customer Relations, I am writing regarding a rental of a Jeep Compass from your Eugene Airport location, which I had continuously from March 8, 2026 through March 20, 2026, across multiple rental agreements and extensions, including Rental Agreement Number (RA #) 3293057. Vehicle: Jeep Compass 2.0 AWD Rental Location: Eugene Municipal Airport During this rental period, I experienced concerning issues with the vehicle's performance. On March 15, 2026, when I returned and entered into an extension of the rental, I specifically informed Hertz staff that the vehicle did not feel right when accelerating and handling, including a noticeable jerking sensation in the steering. I requested a different vehicle due to these concerns. I was advised that this behavior was normal and was told that similar vehicles perform the same way. It is possible they believed this was related to a driver-assist feature such as lane assist; however, I was still instructed to continue driving the same vehicle despite my concerns. On March 20, 2026, while driving to work, the vehicle suffered a tire failure, leaving me stranded and requiring roadside assistance and towing. The vehicle did not have a spare tire, only an inflator kit, and the sealant was ineffective due to the severity of the tire damage and exposed cords. Upon inspection, Les Schwab determined that the tires were unsafe, with significant inner wear and exposed cords due to alignment issues. I have documentation and photos confirming this condition. This indicates that the vehicle had a pre-existing safety issue and should not have been rented in this condition. Additionally, I had already reported abnormal performance prior to the failure and was instructed to continue driving the vehicle. As a direct result of this incident, I also lost a full day of work. I am a federal employee with a scheduled shift from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a requirement to complete an eight-hour workday. Due to the breakdown, towing process, and subsequent vehicle replacement, I was unable to complete my scheduled hours and therefore lost income. Following this incident, Hertz replaced the vehicle with a Ram 2500 pickup truck. This replacement has significantly higher fuel consumption and created additional burdens, including the inability to park in my designated work parking garage, resulting in out-of-pocket parking expenses. At the time of the replacement, I expressed concern about the fuel cost and practicality of the truck. I was informed that it was the only vehicle available and was advised to return on Sunday to exchange it once more suitable vehicles became available. As a result of these circumstances, I am requesting the following: A full refund of the rental charges for the Jeep Compass from March 8, 2026 through March 20, 2026 A full refund of the rental charges for the Ram 2500 replacement vehicle provided following the breakdown Reimbursement for additional fuel costs incurred due to the replacement vehicle Reimbursement for parking expenses incurred as a result of the oversized replacement vehicle Additional compensation or rental credit reflecting the safety risk, inconvenience, lost income, and overall disruption caused I trusted Hertz to provide a safe and properly maintained vehicle. UPDATE: 7/24/25 - On 7/21/25 I received a collections notice for $7,244.83 stating that if I did not respond in 5 days, it would go to collections. I called the claims specialist several times and she did not answer my calls, but she was responsive in email. As of today, I received confirmation from her that they have found that I am not liable for the damages. I am grateful that they made a thorough investigation; however, this experience with Eugene Airport Hertz has deterred me from continuing my loyalty as a Hertz Gold Member. Original Post: READ BEFORE RENTING - I AM BEING CHARGED FOR DAMAGES THAT TOOK PLACE AFTER I RETURNED THE VEHICLE. On 6/15/25, I picked up a car from the Hertz Portland Airport center. I returned it to the Eugene Airport on 6/19/25 and received a statement of charges, not noting any damage to the vehicle. On 6/23/25 I receive a "Vehicle Incident Report" stating that there was a "major collision" on the passenger side door. I would have known if I had a "major collision". I called the Claims Customer service number in the email and was told to fill out the report that I deny the damages were done while I was renting. I did this. The next day 6/24/25, I go back to Eugene Airport, deeply concerned about this supposed damage and the claim made against me. The attendant at the desk was very helpful and told me that the center was aware that this damage took place after I had returned the vehicle and that two "less competent" employees has caused the damage was the manager was away. They did not know how to put it in the system as a employee damage, so they put it in as renter damage. She guaranteed me that they were aware of the situation and they were working to rectify it. I asked for written confirmation from the manager that this conversation had taken place. The manager refused to come out to speak to me or give me written confirmation, but he did give me his card. I emailed the Operations Manager, Carl Renter, to follow up with the conversation I had at the center. I never received a response from him. Now, it is almost a month later and on 7/12/25 I get yet another Vehicle Incident Report email. I again reply that I deny any damage. Today, 7/15/25 I receive another email from "claims support" to help me through the claims process. I tried calling the Eugene Airport and the phone rang for 10 minutes with no response. I am now waiting for the Claims Support center to answer my call. As a Hertz Gold customer, I have rented vehicles in many states, in different countries, and different car companies and have NEVER had this experience. I am generally very wary of negative reviews, but please take this review seriously. This is an absolute nightmare and I am appalled that the damage caused after I returned the vehicle is being pinned on me. Please please help. (P.S. The people at the Eugene airport Hertz counter were friendly, but ... the Subaru they rented me failed to start on the 3rd day of my rental. I missed the morning session of my conference because it took two hours to get someone to drive to Newport and jump start the car. When I returned the car, Hertz offered no compensation for the breakdown. Even worse, when I got home, I realized they had overcharged me, and I had to spend 20 minutes on the phone to get Hertz to reduce the charges to the rate I was quoted and issue a refund. On my previous rental from Hertz in Eugene, I was late to a meeting because one of the tires had a slow leak. I am done with Hertz. read more

She was extremely courteous, patient and detailed in her explanation of how to modify our reservation. I don't know the experience others may have had at this location, but we were lucky to have Tasha assist us. She is a great asset to Hertz. If I could give this negative 000000 stars I would. Writing this on behalf of my friend who does not have yelp. Today my friend attempted to rent a car from this location and was discriminated against treated abhorrently and inhumanely by the woman working whose name he didn't get because she was not wearing a name tag but she was working around 12:30 PM when he was there. What he described was beyond awful, he was BULLIED by a full on adult woman who could not accept she was discriminating and apologize she even went so far to say SHE was offended when my friend was simply and politely correcting her CONSTANT misgendering. This woman was treating him like he was mentally ill for being in a gender minority and continuously misgendering him, even getting other staff members involved and telling him extremely rudely that he was holding up the line when he was simply trying to rent a car and be addressed as is on his legal documents. Additionally, he had rented a compact or sedan and was given the biggest truck in the lot like actually huge and he did not feel comfortable driving this as it was not told to him he would be driving a ginormous truck and it's not safe for someone who has never driven such a large vehicle to do so as a rental. Why would they not tell him? It was one of those trucks that is SO TALL it has a built in step stool on the side so you can climb up. It was easily 1.5x his height. So not only did they do a bait and switch on him with the car but then this employee was consistently using the wrong pronouns getting extremely defensive and raising her voice at my friend but turning the situation on him and allowing others to engage in discriminatory behavior as well. She even got other customers in line behind him frustrated at how long things were taking and all around was being an absolute bully. We are trying to figure out how to lodge a formal complaint to Hertz due to the discrimination he faced. I am truly disgusted by what my friend reported to me. She told him while raising her voice "oh you think you're so special" and " oh you have tons of problems" not taking any accountability for her actions. Not only was this woman displaying extremely transphobic behavior, she was even went so far to say that SHE was offended that my friend was trying to "insinuate" that she was being transphobic. That was clearly the issue here with the consistent misgendering and my friend left and bawled for several hours. I don't know what is wrong with people but this behavior is completely unacceptable. If this woman had just said she was sorry and used the correct pronouns my friend would not have had a traumatic experience where she was literally yelling to the customers in line behind him "SORRY PEOPLE SHE IS A HE" Like actually WTF. Why would you yell that to a group of people as if trying to gain their sympathy? Absolutely the worst!!!!!!! We had to bring in our original rental to exchange here since once we left our original location the car had so many warnings going off and we did not feel the car was safe to drive . Oregon location first of all told us over the phone it would be an easy exchange it was not we were there for almost an hour . The guy at the counter 1. Cancelled our original booking 2. Rebooked and merged 2 separate reservations so it made our car rental for 10 days . 3. We saw the mistake on the receipt then claimed he couldn't fix it and we had to call customer service 4. Made us create a new reservation. 5. We went through 3 cars before giving up they were all dirty 6. 1 car had left over fast food bag on the back set, 2nd car the dashboard was sticky as if some spilled a soda all over it . 3rd had left over room key & water bottles in the back . 7. Charged us $147.32 for fuel for full tank even after the "manager" claimed they would waive it as the reservation had an interruption, original car was brought back with half of tank so even if we did have to pay for fuel at most $60 -70. We've had hertz for years and have the president's circle and when I tell you they don't give a living shit about it they don't. We've never had this many issues with other companies cars and going forward hertz will be the absolute last rental we'll look at. read more

Pre-booked my car before travel with my flight so that all I had to do was check in and get my key. The gentlemen behind the desk was friendly as he processed the reservation. I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. My car was a bit harder to find, their signs are small or perhaps Im not the most observant. But once you saw the cars, they're easy to use. read more

Lazy employees. Gave me the car on almost empty (2 bars) and didn't explain anything to me about the car. They didn't tell me that they were giving me a hybrid or explain how to start it. Just sent me out into the rain to find it and fend for myself. lol! I returned the car a day early and she wouldn't give me a receipt on the spot to reflect that. Do not rent from Hertz. We did a one way from Eugene which was a very pleasant experience, dropping off in Seattle which is why I'm not recommending you not go with Hertz. We forgot a couple of items in the vehicle, which I'm sure happens all the time. However, if you do it in a Hertz vehicle at the Seattle Tacoma airport, here's what may happen: You'll look on their website for the office phone number. You'll not be able to reach a live person at the office. You'll find the number for the lost and found office, if you get through, you'll be allowed to leave a voicemail. No one will call you back. You'll call the main Hertz booking line, because that's the only number that allows you to speak to a human being. You'll be transferred to a call center in the Caribbean or India/ Pakistan, in which instance they will try their damnedest to get a hold of some kind of employee at the branch involved or the lost and found number; which leads back to earlier results. You'll be invited to file a report on line, to which nothing will happen until you persistently call in and complain to any Hertz office that gives a damn. For me, I tried my best to go through the Eugene office. They tried really hard to help me find answers but as far as I know, were unsuccessful. If you are fortunate enough to have some kind of acknowledgement of your efforts via an automated email from Hertz, the email will tell you no items have been located. Also, for frame of reference, EVERY lost and found location reports their found lost items for claim within 30 days via the lost and found website. However for the Seattle Tacoma location, no lost items have been recovered from an international airport in the last 30 days? So basically, lose something in a Hertz vehicle, don't expect to get it back and it's honestly a waste of time to even ask. There does not seem to be any accountability and there seems to be an employee or group of employees making out with folks lost stuff on a regular basis. I have attempted to bring this to the attention of the Seattle Tacoma port police as Hertz really does't seem capable of managing it's employees or lost and found protocols. One of the worst rental experiences of my life! Avoid at all costs! I needed a rental because my car had to have some work done, as it was unexpected I had to make a same day reservation. I tried to call the Hertz office, but the phone tree would tell me to book on the website and then hang up on me. There is NO option to talk to a person. My reservation was for 2pm, and when I arrived at the counter at 2 I was told no car would be available till 3pm. There was ZERO concern or empathy and a completely dismissive attitude from the person at the counter. It was obvious that they wouldn't lift a finger to help at all. So I sat in the airport for an hour and waited for a car that was parked in the lot, yes I walked out and checked at 2:05pm, and drove off at 3:10 pm. Before I walked away I confirmed that I didn't have to return till 3pm. I returned the car to the lot at 3:10 the next day, and was charged an additional $42 for an extra hour, because the person at the counter didn't change the time on my reservation. I used to be a Hertz Gold member when I did a lot of business travel, before Covid, but I will NEVER use them again and I will be recommending to my company travel department that we remove them as a vendor. read more

I give zero stars if possible. Returned my vehicle half full and got charged for a full tank. Called to complain and they wanted me to verify I had bought gas even though I had driven over 500 miles which over the amount of miles you can even drive in one tank. I asked to speak to a supervisor but was told they said I had fax or email receipt or no refund. When you call your 5 star customer a liar you can't be surprised when they leave you. I'm a Hertz Gold member, travel much and probably rent 30 or 40 cars/year. My flight arrived Eugene about an hour late, almost 1AM, and I was very glad to see the Hertz counter still manned. I reserved a full-size car and got even luckier when I was told they were out of full-size cars and I would have to accept a premium car, a 2013 Nissan Maxima. The Hertz parking lot is immediately outside the terminal, and after the usual car rental 20 questions, I was driving away in a few minutes. Couldn't get any better. With the exception of a dead cigarette lighter that didn't power my GPS, the car was excellent. Two days later I returned the car which took under two minutes and the agent asked if I wanted to wait an extra minute for my receipt or receive it later via email. I chose the email option. When I later reviewed the receipt I found I was charged over $300 to include $89.97 for "Damage Waiver" which I clearly and repeatedly declined upon renting. This isn't the first time this has happened to me and I've had to correct this with multiple car rental companies before. What really got me was an additional charge for $24.73 for "Fuel & Service". I filled up the car at the very closest gas station to the airport "Pacific Roads Chevron" and put 3.854 gallons of gas in it. My fuel receipt had a time stamp 16 minutes before the time stamp on the Hertz return receipt. I couldn't have done much joy riding in that 16 minutes and most of it was spent in the airport parking lot repacking my suitcases. The Hertz receipt showed I put 72 miles on the car. EPA specs on a 2013 Nissan Maxima is 19/26 mpg. If you do the math, I got 18.6 mpg which is just about right. However Hertz claimed they added 2.5 gallons after I filled it up. Impossible. When I do the math and examine the receipts' time stamps, it tells me is that Hertz clearly and intentional ripped me off for the "Fuel & Service". Given that, I am making the assumption the $89.97 fee for "Damage Waiver" was an intentional as well. Its not just Hertz nor this location. Car rental companies frequently do this to business travellers particularly when they know they have only a few minutes to catch their flight and will probably just hand over the receipt to the company to be paid. In my case my company does pay it, however I scrutinize every charge before I turn over the receipts. My advice is to be wary of all car rental agencies and to always examine your receipt in detail. My experience is about 1/3 of all car rental agencies will add trumped up charges. This Hertz location did it rather boldly though. Bottom line Hertz Eugene airport - great location, great service, great people, great cars and sadly intentional billing fraud. read more

I am giving Hertz at Eugene Airport 5 stars mainly for Crystal, the girl who really helped us out there. Our plane to Eugene, OR was so delayed that we didn't get to Eugene Airport till after 1 AM. It usually wouldn't be a problem, BUT, all the offices at Eugene Airport close around midnight! We had a car rental reservation with Hertz, and if we didn't get our ass there before they closed, we might get trapped in Eugene Airport for the rest of the night. As you can tell, the situation wasn't looking good for us so I decided to call Hertz before the plane departed from SFO. Crystal, the girl at Hertz counter at Eugene Airport, was incredibly nice and understanding that she said she would wait for us. I was a bit released when I got her words, but of course I've always had trusting issues with service people I never met... so you can imagine that our eyes were full of joyful tears when we saw the Hertz counter was still open when we arrived Eugene. Crystal was waiting patiently for us there with a friendly smile. Since it was passed their office hour, the computer system was closed down. She had to manually write down all the information on forms for us. The process was of course longer than usual, but she was very nice and professional about it. I didn't catch any irritated or impatient look on her face the whole time. She was there again when we were returning the car. Since the information was manually written in the forms at the beginning, it had to take her more time to re-enter all the info into the computer for us to check out. Again, there was no sign of irritation and she was extremely patient just like the first time we met her. After getting used to so many poor services with poor attitudes around here, we were so grateful of how considerate the service was at Eugene Airport Hertz. It might only take extra 20 minutes for Crystal to help us out, but we desperately needed it, and she really saved us from lots of chaos that could've happened that night. read more

Management left the desk clerk with no ability to compensate me for the massive price difference in gas I'll need to purchase. When the same thing happened with Alamo last week at least Alamo offered to pay for one tank of gas to cover for the difference. read more

Paid to get to the airport and was told then the car would maybe be ready in 4 hours but could not guarantee. Don't make a reservation online without calling. Waste of time and money. So I booked online, no problems, but when I get there they tell me they have a new policy and won't give me the car I already payed for because I didn't have a credit card. Mind you, I have a Visa debit card. Every other place I have ever rented a car was fine with this. No problems in my life. But this asshole, Carl, wouldn't listen to me. Didn't even apologize. So I am stranded 10 miles out of town now without a ride, missing my grandfather's funeral. Thanks so much Hertz, for making an already horrible day even worse. This is specifically for the Eugene location on 7th Ave, as well as for Hertz as a company. In March 2018, I brought my car to a nearby autobody shop to rear end damage to my LEAF. This was being covered by the insured claim for the person who hit my parked car. The insurance company, State Farm, also provided me with a rental car for the time the car would be in the shop. Unfortunately it was via this Hertz rental location. They picked me up at the autobody shop, and brought me to this storefront location of Hertz. After waiting for sometime, I was told that they didn't have any clean cars available at the moment for reasons I won't go into here. They brought me home, and then picked me up later when they had a clean car. OK fine. With the understanding that all charges would go directly to State Farm, I still provided them my credit card (for security I suppose). The car was returned the next day to the autobody shop as I was instructed to do. Then a credit charge for $89.40 shows up on my credit card. I called this location several times, and the guy who handled it assured me he would get it straightened out, saying he would have a manager get back to me. No one ever called back and no action was taken to refund my money. Finally, after that became a obvious dead end, I called State Farm. They were very nice, and spoke to Hertz, who apparently promised that they would credit my money to my card and that it would take 4-6 weeks to go through. It is now more than 6 weeks later and nearly 5 months after the charge was made, and still nothing. I am back on the phone with State Farm, and am doubtful this will be resolved anytime soon. We rented an economy car last week for our visit to Eugene. I got a real good deal through Expedia for the car which I was happy about. Prior to returning the vehicle we filled the gas tank to avoid ridiculous gas fees charged by Hertz. We stopped at a gas station 4 miles away from the airport, yes only 4 miles. So with a Toyota Corolla that didn't even make a dent in the gas level. A couple days ago I saw a credit charge for 16.32 from Hertz. After several calls I was finally able to reach an attendant who told me that the lot attendant said our gas tank was missing two gallons of gas and that is what the charge was for. Pretty ridiculous and BS. They try to nickel and dime you for everything. We should have not done Express Checkout by dropping the keys in the box. I'm sure they figured by us doing that they could tack on some extra money. It also annoyed me that the initial counter attendant tried to get us to buy insurance when I told him I had already purchased it through Expedia. He tried to convince me I should buy it from them too. I won't rent through Hertz again. read more

When I arrived at the Hertz counter they were closed early. I was told I would be reimbursed for my taxi to my hotel and back to the airport in the morning. They later said they were unable to keep their word and offered me a gift certificate. Additionally I was charged for having the rental car for the duration of the original reservation and not the time I actually had the rental car due to them closing early.
