place is OK but gold service doesn't exist here. any other hertz i've rented from will have everything ready for you to just drive off if you reserve using your gold account. here you still have to go through 20 minutes of them checking you out and going over the car. pretty annoying. that's also on top of just waiting around in general because the car isn't ready and has to be cleaned and washed. read more

Very hard to get a hold of! I understand this location is probably pretty busy, however the majority of the time I attempt to call I get a busy tone. You would think there would be a call waiting option or something. They have got to lose a lot of business with this occurring. I did eventually get through over attempting to call over a period of 30 minutes: The rep who answer the phone answered pleasantly then put me on an immediate hold... While most businesses have some sort of music or hold advertisement, while on hold with this location it's complete silence. I held for about 5 or so minutes and when I was about to hang up, thinking I was disconnected or hung up on, the rep came back. I just wanted to rent a car and return to San Diego. Now this was around the holidays, so I expected prices to be higher than usual, but when I was quoted $500/day I was SHOCKED to say the least. I then verified the price again and she said $500/day whether I had it for 1 day or 3 days. This sounds like MAJOR GOUGING--Hertz takes advantage of the situation!! read more

I'm a Hertz Gold Member and reserved my car online. When I went to pick it up, I was not given any explanation of charges, verbally or even a printed out receipt. I was unknowingly given a more expensive car than I had reserved, and charged $25 extra per day for it, again, not told to me when I picked up the car. When the car was returned, the guy at the desk, Jake, basically said there was nothing he could do about it, and to call Hertz if we wanted to. I called the Billing dept at Hertz and got yelled at by the lady I spoke to, who told me to "take responsibility for this." I stayed courteous throughout the whole call because I really want to give her the benefit of the doubt that she's not a mean person; I really hope Hertz records their phone conversations. She then gave me the number for the Hertz location where I picked up the car and told me to talk to the manager, and when I called, it turns out that particular manager hasn't worked for Hertz for years. I had to call for three consecutive days, leaving a message & callback number every time (no one ever called me back), until a manager finally picked up the phone. The manager, Jessie, said she believed Jake when he said he gave me a verbal explanation of charges, even though she did confirm with him that I was never presented with a paper printout of the charges when I picked up the keys. She decided not to believe me, and I got the feeling that even if she did believe me, she wouldn't have done anything about it. read more

Hertz is the worst car rental ever. My experience was awful. Our 2 cars were not ready, filthy dirty with no gas. The service person Jacob never went to the car to even look at them. We took photos of the dirt and scratches of the vehicles so we wouldn't be responsible when we returned them. Hertz is supposed to be the premier car rental. NOT!! No apologies were made no compensation and we went to family wedding in a filthy dirty car! I called 4 times to speak with a supervisor was told they will call me back within 24-48 hours, and filled out a survey! NO RESPONSE FROM UPPER MANAGEMENT! For sure they don't need my business! Truly a most terrible experience. Reserved a compact car online for $150, was sent confirmation and planned to pick up the vehicle the same day. A few hours later we received a voicemail telling us that there is a glitch in the system and that the price we were charged for the rental car was now $450 and that our reservation had to be canceled. Every other rental agency was booked out until after Thanksgiving and since we had to have a car to get to San Francisco that evening we were forced to deal with Hertz. The woman at the front counter straight up told us that because they were the only agency within 200 miles with an available vehicle that the prices had been inflated and that she WOULD NOT let any one way rental to San Francisco go for less than $450. She made zero apologies and said that at the bottom of our receipt (for the reservation she'd canceled) it said "prices subject to change". Needless to say, we paid the $450 because we don't care to hitchhike. Will reserve a rental car months in advance from a different company in the future... read more

My mother and I rented a cargo van from the Eureka, CA location to drive to San Jose...a six hour drive south to get my last piece of furniture that was in a storage unit there. We both got picked up by Hertz this past Friday morning to go get the van at their office. They were a little late picking us up which made it later for us picking up the vehicle (we actually got the vehicle at around 8:50 instead of 8:00 a.m. I can understand they sometimes have a high demand for customer pick ups and drop offs. When we got to the office to get the van, we told the lady at the office that we wouldn't be able to get back to turn it in until around 11:00 - 11:30 a.m. the next morning which was a Saturday when they close at 12:00 p.m. The lady that was in the office when we picked up the van understood that and charged us an additional two hours...if more was needed, she said she could adjust it when we returned it. The problem started when we were just returning to the city of Eureka the next Saturday morning at around 9:30 a.m. back from the Bay Area. My mom gets a phone call from them at 9;30 a.m. Saturday morning asking her when we will return the van. They had it booked for someone else around 9:30 as we were just returning back to Eureka. We had to go to my storage in Arcata first to put the vanity in there because there is no room at the place. We got fuel in the van after finishing with the unload. We arrived at their office in Eureka at around 11:30 a.m...around the time we told them we would be returning it. My mother was irritated about the phone call of them asking where the van is and when are we going to return it...even though we explained that yesterday. We \were being decent people not to tell them a thing or two when we returned it. They didn't make any rude remarks while we were actually in there at the office returning it...but after we left and their office closed, they left my mother a nasty voicemail on her phone just a few minutes after they closed Saturday. They said the van wasn't approved for the extra hours and they had another customer waiting for it. They booked it to another customer before we said we could return it the next day. We paid for the extra hours. We returned it clean and a full tank...it wasn't quite a full tank when we picked it up Friday morning (one bar off from being full).They had the nerve to ask us to rate them a high score...they will be getting a one. And by the way, I've dealt with another Hertz office while I was still in the Bay Area...Milpitas, CA at Crowne Plaza Hotel. I haven't seen them for over a year, but rented a lot from them before I bought my new car. They were ALWAYS really nice and always deserved a high score rating. read more

Thank you Jasmine and Hertz! I've never used Hertz for car rental. My family and I were on a family trip to Arcata. Just as we left town the alternator failed. It seemed as if most places were already closed for the day on a Weds prior to 5pm so we didn't have many options. Being somewhat frazzled from being broken down on Hwy 101 for at least 3 hours we were pleasantly greeted as we walked in from being dropped off by Mendocino Tow--Our request was expedited, needs met and out the door quickly. Upon returning the rental car the attendant checked the car for damage and the car looked ok. Then she checked a history file and claimed I scratched the car and charged $50.00. The scratch was barely visable and the charged amounted to what the insurance would have cost. Go to enterprise across the street. read more

Seriously, I rented a car for 5 days, was charged $893 which I paid in full when I returned the car. I filled the car up 2 blocks aways from the site......6 days later they have charged my card again for an extra amount without authorization. This is flat out fraud. What company keeps your card number and charges whatever the want, whenever they want. I will have my bank reverse the charges.....beware of this practice!! read more

If there was a way I could give a negative star review I would. This rental has been nothing but a joke and so frustrating. Fiancée was in a small accident, a rental was set up through our insurance company. First off the employee who originally processed our rental refused to do so through the insurance company and said we would have to get reimbursed. They then proceeded to charge me for things I did not ask for. And when I asked them to take off the extra charges I was informed that I had agreed to them. Why would I agree to any type of an insurance when my car insurance was paying for the rental. The employees are rude and unhelpful. I will never rent from hertz again. read more

Worst car rental!! First I made reservation 2 weeks in advance. I get there no reservation , hertz then rents me a truck with 2 back bald tires the inside of truck is completely dirty and smells with stains every where The body is trashed on outside fender falling off scratched up body etc..and of course it has an 1/8 tank of gas.. So I take since my truck is in shop and that's what is available. I call hertz later that day I call hertz to say these tires are so bald this is dangerous I could have a blow out and there's nothing they could do and that girl wasn't one who rented it so she doesn't no anything about it again etc... Going home I get a flat with my daughter it's 100*f and have to flag someone down ( no cell service ) not safe!! Not cool!!
