Do yourself a favor and avoid this location for car rentals or anything related to your reservation!!!! I was traveling to Southern California with a rental car from Hertz that I picked up at a different location in my hometown. Unfortunately, the vehicle we were given had a very strong cigarette smoke odor. When we initially inspected the car with the employee at the original location, the smell wasn't nearly as noticeable. However, once we turned the vehicle on and started driving for about 5-10 minutes, the cigarette odor became significantly stronger. It was so deeply embedded in the vehicle that we could smell it coming through the vents. We tried rolling down the windows and using car freshener, but nothing helped. Because of our travel plans, we weren't able to immediately return the vehicle. Once we arrived in Southern California, we went to this location hoping they could help us exchange the vehicle. Instead, the employee told us that he couldn't determine whether we had smoked in the vehicle or if the previous customer had, and that we would therefore be responsible for a smoking fee in addition to the vehicle exchange. He told us the fee would be $400. I explained that I was traveling with older family members who have health issues and were having a difficult time tolerating the cigarette smell. Unfortunately, there was very little empathy or willingness to help resolve the situation. We even asked him to come outside and assess the vehicle himself. He sat inside and acknowledged that there were "a lot of different smells in this car," yet we were still told we would be charged. The frustrating part is that we were the ones given a vehicle that already smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, and we were simply asking for help exchanging it. Here's what I learned after dealing with this location: 1. Call roadside assistance and explain that you were given a vehicle with a strong smoke odor that you cannot safely/comfortably drive. 2. They can connect you with the appropriate department, which can create a case number and help locate another vehicle of the same size. 3. Go to the location they direct you to and exchange the vehicle there. This was ultimately how we were able to resolve the situation. If you need to rent a vehicle in the area, I would personally recommend going to the John Wayne Airport location instead. We had a much better experience there, and they had more vehicle options available. The biggest issue for me wasn't even the fact that the original car smelled like smoke.. mistakes happen. It was the lack of empathy and willingness to help when we brought the problem to this location. I hope management addresses this because customers shouldn't have to fight this hard to resolve an issue with a vehicle they were given. read more

When picking up the car i was told i needed to add liability to be able to leave with it and was told it would be cheaper than what i ended up being charged. after being charged an excessive amount i wouldn't have agreed too. I went back with questions and was met with the rudest assistance ever telling me that's what i signed up for and there was nothing he can do. We reserved a reservation at noon to pick up a vehicle at this location. We arrived at 12:02 with the door locked and the lights turned off. We knocked and called and no one answered. An employee was leaving the office and I asked if he worked here. Initially, he said "no", then said he did. I explained we had a reservation at noon to pick up the car, and he said he couldn't open up, as he didn't have a key. He stated he tried to call us, which he did not. He did not even try to help us figure out what to do. Just kept saying he doesn't have a key. I had to call Hertz who had to change the location and this change is costing me twice as much as the original rental was quoted. Why schedule a pick up time at noon if you are not going to be there to honor it? This has been the worst customer service experience I've had for 40 years. Rental prices are OK but trying to use the website is absolutely horrible. Every time I try to use it I run into difficulties. It's difficult to modify it; It's freezing up when you try to use it. When you call the Customer Service. Line You get an automated voice AI program and you can never speak to a real person and it's absolutely horrible.
