This review is specifically for Chelsea, she was amazing! We were in town for a funeral service and we had to book our car rental at the last minute... back in November 2024. She was able to get a car that fit my family comfortably and within a reasonable timeframe...all with a smile on her face! It was a great car and a reasonable price. I visited the Lomita branch to assist a friend with their rental car procedures and After checking every rental car company, it turned out that the luxury hybrid compact SUV he wanted was available only at Hertz. The store staff kindly contacted a nearby branch and located the car my friend had been looking for. The compact hybrid SUV from Volvo that he requested--despite being a 2026 model is actually less expensive than the options offered by other rental car companies. Employee Kay , was absolutely helpful when it came to exchanging a car. I got a rental through StateFarm @ the Lakewood location because of the accident I was in. She accommodated where she could for the exchange. Her communication 10/10, especially when I forgot my makeup bag in one of the rentals she is so helpful and patient! I will not use hertz again. Upon checkout the counter person was lazy. Not overly friendly and The Mercedes they gave me had an overdue for service warning light and wiper fluid needs refilling. I had to bring the Mercedes back the next day. I had to settle on a Volvo as a replacement. Kay was as helpful As she could have been but the Mercedes should have not been given to us in the condition it was in. Lastly when I returned the vehicle and asked for a ride home, I was told they only give rides home for insurance rentals and only Monday to Friday. The place is all locked up and looks abandoned. With reflective film on the windows. The 8 o'clock opening time but nobody's here. The gentleman in the car next to me is on the phone at 8:04 trying to find somebody. 8:05 a chick pulls up, unlocks the door And gets to work. There were other people inside, waiting for her to show up to unlock the door. She did not bother to say hello how are you? How was your trip? Merely said are you returning the car? Give me the key. After several minutes, I asked what was going on. Am I through? She let me know that she just logged in and waiting for the computer to wake up. Had she been here on time, if not early, I suspect the computer would've been on and I could, left in a timely manner. I have rented several cars throughout my life, and this is by far the least gentile and by far the least welcoming visually. read more

Jean or Gene - nice guy representative - I'd give him 5 stars. Great customer service and luckily only dealt with him for pick up (Friday, 4pm) and drop off (Tuesday, 8am). Made the reservation through Expedia. Long line and Jean was the only one who was working so it took awhile. But took about 15 minutes once we spoke with Jean. Reserved a midsize SUV and asked Jean if we can get an all wheel drive SUV since we were going to the snow. He gave us a Ford Explorer. Nice, obvious small dings on the outside. I didn't like that there was an odor once I got in the car. Either was cigarette smoke or vape smoke so had to drive with the windows down to air it out. I sanitized everything once I got home and smell slightly dissipated. The office itself was run down. On Yelp, the closing hours are wrong so we had to extend our rental another day via 1-800 #. We spoke with someone over the phone to try to transfer the drop off to another location that closed at 10:30pm. For some reason that was not allowed and the car needed to be dropped off to this specific location. I'm assuming for their inventory. read more

I rented a Tesla Y from the Hertz, Lomita location. After over 45 minutes of waiting with only one agent in a very ran down facility with a huge broken glass window. Once given, the keys It was clear the Tesla had not been properly inspected or cleaned. The exterior was still dirty and there was an alert of low air in one of the tires. The male agent put air in the tire before I left, which was suspect. Every single day, for the remainder of the rental the tire would go low and the sensor would come on. After my previous complaints about long wait times with no updates, finding issues with the car's cleanliness and safety checks was very disappointing. For a major rental company, Hertz should ensure all vehicles, especially electric vehicles, are thoroughly checked over, cleaned and ready before handing them off to customers. The flat tire could have stranded me if not caught in time. This location also never answers incoming calls. The excessive wait, lack of communication during delays, and uninspected, uncleaned Tesla show a lack of attention to detail and customer service. In the future, I will look at alternatives besides Hertz for rental needs, especially for higher-end vehicles like a Tesla Y that require more care. read more

This review relates to my experience at this office, but the issues were created by their corporate policies. I Reserved a box truck through Expedia on Friday for a Monday morning pickup. Arrived to be told they don't have that vehicle and neither do their other local offices. They then told me I should call in advance to confirm availability in the future. So their reservations are worthless and they take no responsibility for informing customers when a vehicle they have accepted a reservation on is not available. Definitely not customer oriented. Meanwhile I am further inconvenienced by having relied on their "reservation" and have to now scramble to find a truck for today's job. Thanks for nothing Hertz! read more

Awful. Their car inventory is pitiful. I waited an hour for the car size I reserved to be delivered from another location. Upon return, I was asked to pay $200 because there was dog hair on the passenger seat that transferred off my friend's clothes. No dog was EVER in the car. I was also accused of vaping in the car because there was a vape coupon on the passenger floor. This was evidence & proof I guess. We NEVER smoked in the car. I was treated like a scammer & told to get the car detailed unless I wanted to pay the $200. I tried, but it was raining. I went to 3 car washes that were all closed. I finally stopped at a do-it-yourself car wash but both vacuums had no suction. I was so frustrated I just took the car back. Just go somewhere else! read more

The only customer service representative we dealt with at both pick-up and drop-off was a lady that identified herself as "Bonnie" (I don't know if that's her real name). First off, she was late when we went to pick-up the car. The location is supposed to be open at 8am (our car reservation WAS for 8am) and she didn't arrive to open up until around 8:20am. Things happen, and sometimes people just run late...I get it...so we picked up our car and went about our week. When we returned the car, we were met with detestable rude behavior. There was no one at the front desk so The Huz called out, "Hello?!" several times with no response or answer. He waited about 5 minutes, called out again then proceeded to step forward passed the desk in an attempt to catch someone's attention if someone was in the back. 10 minutes pass by and the The Huz is still calling out "Hello!?". Finally, "Bonnie" comes out and screams at The Huz that he shouldn't have gone passed the line. The Huz explains that he's been standing here for 10 minutes and was trying to get someone's attention. She raises her voice to him & says she's the only one. The Huz responds that she should've put up a note to let customers know that she'd be back in a few minutes otherwise how is a customer supposed to know there IS someone available after waiting for close to 15 minutes. She then bluntly says, "Just give me the keys." Then afterwards, says, "I'll email you a receipt." She doesn't look at the vehicle or do anything else in regards to our transaction. The Huz, not trusting her in the least, says he wants a print-out of the receipt. She doesn't respond, but goes ahead and prints it then practically throws the receipt at The Huz. The Huz made sure to make a video recording of the car so that we wouldn't be blamed for any dents or scrapes that were not there when we turned in the car. We left with an absolutely bad taste in our mouths from such an undesirable interaction with someone who should know better. Customer Service is absolutely lost on this worker and it's important that she is told to improve her interactions with people. Her behavior is NOT acceptable. And a formal complaint has been lodged. If you've experienced a similar interaction with this person, please file a complaint as well. It saves the next person from having to deal with such rudeness. read more

The manager Kay has a really snappy attitude . when I was asking her questions about not being able to get in contact with anyone when I call hertz, she gave me a smart response "well if I'm outside, I can't get to the phone." I asked her if there was a way to see if any other Hertz had cars available and she said she can't help because she can only see certain things on her computer. Tried getting a car through my insurance and when I called to confirm online, I was told to come in and they could figure something out for me. I ubered here and was given a price double what I booked online for. I ended up having to Uber back home and wasted money for no reason. They didn't have the car they claimed they had online. I love this rental office. They always have vehicles available, even if it's the same day (I usually call in a couple of days ahead so I can make it a quicker/easier process). Kay is the manager down there, and she also manages another store in the southbay area. Kay has always taken care of me and my family. Whether it's for something casual, business, or even unexpected, she always goes above and beyond when it comes to her customer service. There is only one problem I can say, and that is the office is definitely under-staffed. Kay has one helper only for the 1st half of the week, and on the remaining days, she's doing everything herself. It's normal for me to come in and see the line back to the door, and she's processing, retreaving, and returning vehicles all by herself. I don't even think she will take lunch sometimes! (That's the time when I usually arrive). As long as she's working there, I will keep coming and back and will recommend all my friends/family to her. Kay is the best!! read more

No stars at all , I rented from the San Pedro office, had a reservation and waited 45 minutes to get a car, started bad from there. Noone walked me to the car to check it out just handed me the keys . Got the car on Monday Oct 7 drove straight to Vegas with 2 friends to a planned vacation staying in my brother's timeshare condos, mind you it's a no pet facility. Came straight back on Thurs Oct 10 , handed the worker the keys, once again Noone looked at the car( never again) . Woke up Monday to a 600 dollar charge on my credit card, I was livid, after going in twice and calling their corporate they claimed it was pet hair embedded in the back seat carpet and seat!! Damn lie , for one I have no dog and two we stayed in a no pet facility, needless to say I'm fighting this all the way thru, started an escalation with Hertz have to wait 7 days, then notified the bank who will try dispute it, if all else fails I will be taking them to small claims court, they are complete frauds but I will fight them 100 percent. This is the San Pexro office. I would not ever use them again or ever recommend them. Wish me luck! read more

I reserved an intermediate SUV. The car given to me was a subcompact SUV Buick Encore. The main issue with the car was that it stunk badly of cigar smoke. The nice lady tried to spray something in the car to get rid of the smell, but after driving it home, my eyes stung, my breathing was wheezing, and it got congested from the leftover secondhand smoke. I called the place and asked for a different car that day or the next day. the owner asked "the car gave you ALLERGIES?" I said the smoke does. He said he'd call me if there was a replacement the next day. He never called. Driving that car was miserable. I will never rent from there again. read more

I proceeded to tell him business travel. I've rented hundreds of cars never have been told to pay for an upgrade when they don't have the vehicle. I reserved her excuse. You only made the reservation an hour and a half ago we didn't have time to get you a car, I said of course your system didn't tell me this I made a reservation. I have a reservation number. In fact the reservations confirmed in your system tells me if I don't show up to get the car you're gonna charge me $35 that you don't show up This is a slimy business practice to get more money renting a car is not cheap these days and pull this on top of it is just horrendous. Rented a car while mine was getting fixed. Person who picked me up was not wearing a mask when he arrived so, even though he wore one once I was in the vehicle, I was still inhaling his exhale which is a bit freaky these days. Their location is...interesting. Looks temporary or like it might be a front for something. Vehicle was OK, though I can never figure out why they all smell vaguely of smoke even though they're supposed to be smoke free. The real fun began when I attempted to contact them to let them know I'd need the vehicle for a few more days. The website didn't accept either of my numbers which made me really wonder if I'd rented from a legit place. When I finally talked to a person at Hertz national I found out that the insurance numbers are different and can't be used to access information online. OK. Called local place on Monday and the person was fairly rude and said there was no need to contact them anyway since they were in close communication with the body shop and/or insurance. Picked up my car from the body shop and, per the instructions from the local Hertz when I'd picked it up, left the rental car at the body shop. Body shop people assured me this was OK. I did not notify Hertz since a-it was an ordeal to contact them, b-they were rude, and c-I had been told they were in such good communication from the insurance company. Worst rental car office ever. Ivan the manager was rude and not accommodating at all. Their computer did not honor my reservation I had made through AAA and I was unable to get a car. When you make a reservation for a rental it is usually because you need a car at that time. Considering they did not have one, the professional thing to do would be to try and help locate something at another location. They did not do that. Aside from that, the service was slow. I wanted to try Hertz out because they are close to me. 1.) I booked a car online and even payed ahead for an SUV. Then I get a phone call later that day that they don't have the car on their inventory. I needed the car the next day. The employee (Vladmir?) did not even offer any alternatives, and just hung up directly after stating the issue. So I called the company itself and then they helped book me online. They guaranteed an SUV for me for that establishment. This whole process took about an hour. The next day I came and they said the car was not on their inventory at all. We had to leave that day and only had 2-3 hours left before we leave for our trip. Frustrated, I went to Enterprise instead, and they booked me a really good deal of an SUV, and was fairly quick. I wish I could give zero. I rented multiple vehicles to take multiple children out of town. On Monday, John the manager called me to confirm. On Wednesday one day before my rental, I got a rude call from Michael stating that I wouldnt be able to get any vehicles. Shortly after I spoke to the manager who told me he couldnt provide me with a vehicle and that there was no customer service or corporate I could call. After calling customer service they assured me the issue was resolved. I went in on Thursday approached by the very unprofessional and rude manager. After going back and forth for an hour he told me he didn't have a full size available for my reservation but would give me an upgrade for the same price. I agreed, we walked inside to do the contract and then he said he changed his mind. I repeated what he said, he said yes I said that but now I changed my mind. For 20 years I've used Enterprise, once out of state I used Hertz and had a wonderful experience. Unfortunately, California doesn't value there customers. Lomita is the worst branch. It's unfortunate that you have to travel away from home to get good service. I will NEVER patronize Hertz again. read more

We rented from this place before due to an accident in Dec of 2018. The staff was a little rude like we are taking up their time when they were just gossiping about someone. Not that big of a deal. It was fast process and we were out of there in 15 minutes. But this time, Aug of 2019. Another accident. My wife rented from this place and the guy told my wife the our insurance does not cover the damage on the rental vehicle if we get into an accident. My wife did not know, so she believed in their lie and paid the 11.00 a day damage waiver. Then we found out from our insurance does cover our rental damages in an accident after we turned in the receipt. In fact, we forgot about the credit cards also cover the damages for the rental. The rental place refused to refund our money. The insurance (State Farm) also refuse to cover the extra money we paid. I don't think we would rent there again since they are such liars. read more

Reservations mean NOTHING!!!! I made reservation day before my pickup I called to verify everything. The run around started I was told to leave my name, number...someone would call me back in 15-30 minutes. Ok no problem problem. Never received a call so I called again and told them I needed info. NOTHING! You don't want my business don't take my reservation and credit card number!!!! Not I was charged $100 for my cancellation. OMG Hertz never again!! Car was sealed with a CLEAN sticker. Got in and it smelled like cigarettes though it says all their cars are "non smoking." There was huge stains on the side compartments , looks like from a sugary drink. Then the car only had 30 miles worth of fuel. Returned the car the following day thinking I'd get a ride to the dealership to pick up my car that was being repaired - that was not the case and all I got was "Sorry I don't have anybody to take you." Also the staff isn't very friendly- I'm writing this while listening to one being rude to a customer now. read more
