Recently I traveled to Lubbock for TTU graduation. I had prepaid a rental at Hertz online, really cheap. It's a risk, but the difference between just reserving and prepaying (no refund) was so much that It was worth it. When I picked up my car the staff were very pleasant and the Hyundai Accent they gave me was nice and very easy to drive. The interior was spotless and the car got excellent gas mileage. The only negatives were that the front end of the car was still covered with the typical highway bug splatter, and there was damage to the front passenger side bumper that hadn't been noted prior to handing over the keys. On the positive side, I called immediately to report the bumper issue, and they were very nice and said not to worry, that I wouldn't be held responsible for it. All in all, I had a very positive experience with Hertz at the Lubbock International Airport. read more

Do not rent from this Hertz, you will not get a car! Like the other reviews mention, they close early and they don't answer their phones. We payed 60$ for an uber from the airport for them to not be there at 3:30 when it says they close at 6. An obnoxious experience to say the least. read more

6 people are standing outside the location at 4:30pm to pick up rental cars. All were dropped off by UBER....the place is closed, business next door said they left an hour ago....wow!!!!! Reserved a car at this location, when it was time to pick up there was no one there. I called plenty of times could not get an answer, but they still charged me a no show fee, even tho i showed up for my reservation. Worst customer service. Would have to call several times in one day to get in touch. When I went to pick up the rental there was a sign saying they would return shortly, since I had been dropped off I had no other option to wait, I waited for an hour. No one had come in or out. I walked up to the desk to see if they had written a phone number or note and a woman came from the back unapologetic and not helpful at all. I had spoken to someone on the phone and they told me it would be the same rate if I extended the rental another week, said they would update my profile saying it was extended, and email me a confirmation after I had asked. We were called by an employee of Hertz the day before we were supposed to pick it up our vehicle stating that it would not be available. We had reserved a small SUV to go out of town for the weekend. I stated that we would be willing to downsize to a car. I was informed that nothing was available. I was told over the phone that they had 10 other customers that they had to inform that they would have no car. Not a good way to run a business. When I got on Priceline to see about making a reservation with another company, Hertz was still showing cars even though they know there are no cars available. I thought when I booked this rental, it was at the Lubbock airport. Nope. They pulled out. I asked if they had a shuttle, as it was about 13 min away. No shuttle. I had to get an Uber and pay $35 to go rent my car! Ridiculous! When I got there. I said something- and they just said we are trying to get back there. Couldn't they at least have a shuttle? On a business trip this week, we had to do a quick online search to find a car, and were lucky enough to find single vehicle available at this Hertz location ( and possibly in all of Lubbock ). When we arrived, we were graciously greeted by David, who went out of his way to get us what we needed. This was my first time using hurts here or anywhere that I can remember. It was an uneventful rental in fact I was given a small SUV as a midsize that's a plus. Not much I can say as my reservation was taken care of and I had no problems with the rental. I will use them on the return trip to Lubbock if I need a car. read more

I travel to Lubbock frequently for work and use hertz due to ease of booking. This is the 3rd time I have arrived and they did not have the car for my reservation nor any cars nor a back up plan for me. No notification from them prior to my arrival, just a last minute Chinese fire drill when I check in for my car of trying to figure out how I'm going to make it to my appointment on time. The Lubbock airport does not have taxis waiting like other airports. No uber available. Luckily the have cars but you have to find someone who knows the number and call them and typical wait is 15-30 minutes Hertz, if you don't have a car for me, let me know ahead of time or make alternate reservations for me. Don't just leave me to deal with this on my own. read more

So, get this. Landed at Lubbock International and proceeded to the Hertz counter to retrieve my reserved rental car. Hertz was out of vehicles and unable to give me a time when my reserved rental car would be available. Lady working the desk was a bi$@h as well. Never again Hertz, never again. read more

I get their petty ways of charging you for trivial fees but when they don't apologize for it, can't say I'm sorry, or don't tell you about it in the first place, that is not a company I will choose to do business with. I travel to Lubbock three or four times a year, and always rent from Hertz. The rates are very reasonable, and the cars have always been clean and reliable. Pick up and drop off have gone seamlessly. Usually leave early in the morning, and leave the rental agreement and key in the drop box. Very low-stress travel. read more

Worst Customer Service ever. I cant give less than 1 star. Two and a half MONTHS ago I used them at the request from my insurance and rented a vehicle due to an accident. When my arrangements were made it took THREE DAYS for them to get a car for me. After I got the vehicle all was well. Their billing department then waited TWO MONTHS and then overcharged my credit card for a fee my insurance was supposed to pay, and never once contacted my insurance or me to let me know of the issue. This caused my account to be overdrawn. They stated "we cannot help you", and that I need to call my insurance company and have them call Hertz to pay this charge. I did their job and called my insurance (State Farm) who graciously called their point of contact and said they would pay the charge and would do so immediately. I then tried to call Hertz Customer service billing to get them to rectify their charge. I got no help from them. They transferred me to their employee insurance line, new claim department as if I wrecked their car and would never let me speak to a supervisor. After spending thee and a half hours calling back trying to get some help, a supervisor or anything that remotely feels like someone who can try to help my I get told " i can escalate this and you will get an email in 7 to 10 days. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. YOU FRAUDULENTLY CHARGED MY CREDIT CARD AND CAUSED AN OVERDRAFT IN MY ACCOUNT HERTZ. I am now in the process of contacting my insurance to find out how I can get State Farm to revoke their preferred status. I will not use Hertz again. read more

I'm sick of Hertz not rewarding me in any way for being a Gold member. They used to get me into a nicer car. When I reserved the intermediate class vehicle, they used to upgrade me to a full size because I was gold. For whatever reason they've stopped doing this, and when I ask they make up any excuse they can think of. One lady told me I wasn't a gold member and made me get out of the gold member line. Another counter agent told me that upgrades for gold members are subject to availability, and only done as an exception (favor). On this most recent rental, the only reason I chose Hertz was because I had to (National was closed). The lady at the counter was bored, rude, unenthusiastic, didn't smile. When I asked about gold members getting an upgrade she told me "no, only presidential gold members get that." It sounded like she made that up. I've never heard of presidential gold. Whatever, so then I walk all the way down to the car since there's no shuttle, and the car is filthy and stinky inside. It was a tiny little Toyota Corolla that drove horribly. The seats were stained, and it was as lame as it gets. My job requires 5 weeks travel at a time for about 9 months out of the year, and Hertz used to get all of that business. Now I give every bit of my business to other rental companies because Hertz does not appreciate me. They treat me like being a gold member means nothing. I returned this lame vehicle less than a day later and National put me into a bran new Dodge Charger for the same low rate I'm used to. So Hertz, when you're asking yourself why profits are down, my story can serve as an example. read more

My experience with the Hertz in Lubbock was the worst experience I have had in my history with rental cars. My 3 year old son and I waited an hour to be picked up from the closing body shop because the employee "went home sick" and forgot to tell the driver to come get us. Then I received notice that they charged my account for double the quoted price and "I cant do anything about it because it's already closed out." was all that was said to me in return. read more

If there were a way to give a negative 5 star rating I would happily give it to this outfit. I rented a car online from hertz about 3 weeks before my trip. They took money on the rental. They sent me the confirmation. Finally, when the time came I flew from Fairbanks Alaska to Lubbock Texas with my son - he had doctors appointments the next day - lo and behold they were all out of cars that night. They had overbooked and sold out and for whatever reason they didn't want to inform us even though they had an email address and a phone number. So there we were, me and my son and no car to use. Sure we survived, but this is lazy at best. Bad business indeed - maybe all the outfits do his sort of thing but from now on I would recommend getting a verbal confirmation that the vendor won't sell you out and leave you stranded in a foreign land with your sick child.
