I had a reservation for 6pm and arrived almost a half hour early. the doors were locked with no one working. website and voicemail said the store is open until 6pm. when I called hertz customer service I was told I could have come earlier so I'll have to try again tomorrow. rented a car, showed up and no car available. never got a call that said not cars available. place was closing in 30 minutes so there were no options. desk worker said he was "too busy" to call me and let me know they didn't have any cars. horrible location, most cars I have rented from them have been dirty. Here we go again. Someone told me NOT to use these guys. My insurance company has an agreement with Hertz so I called them. I got one of the worst attitudes about sending a car to the autobody shop where I am planning to drop my car off for repair. I hung up immediately and called State Farm and asked to change car rental services. They said no problem. I asked for Enterprise. She said she'd put the request in for me. The WORST. I picked up my car on Tuesday, and I had paid to keep until Friday, when my car was supposed to be done with repairs. I called on Thursday to extend the rental for a few more days, and was put on hold for 23 minutes. My card was charged for the extra days. Then on Sunday, my card was charged another $133! I called the 800 number, and was told the new charge was a late fee because I was supposed to return the car on Friday, they had no record of the $88 I had paid for the extended rental. I would think that someone would call and ask why I hadn't returned the car. Also, when I picked up the car, nobody came out to check the condition with me, which I thought was a normal practice with rentals. The woman at the front desk was unpleasant at best and seemed actually angry that I refused extra insurance that would have doubled the price of the rental. Never again, Hertz. This place is a JOKE. I set up for a pickup at 8:30am. I called when they weren't here at 8:45 am and they never answered. I was left stranded at the body shop I was supposed to be picked up from and had to make other arrangements. I was late to work. Save yourself the trouble and go to enterprise. Update: it had been over 24 hours. I have not heard from hertz, I have not been contacted back, they never answered so I could not even cancel my order with them. 2/10 wouldn't recommend. The car was nice, the price was great but the staff not so much, left my wallet in the car and the older female worker helped herself into my wallet, and took my $100 I left in there. It was on a lost report I had posted and I tried to call at 7:40 to tell them to leave it in the car and no one answered the phone, and of course, no cameras. So after the DM who never got back with me via email, or phone "did an investigation" (like how, there is no cameras) it was concluded it never happened and she never took it. But unfortunately she did, so if you rent with HERTZ don't drop your wallet in the car because mrs T. will help her self to a tip (which she didn't have time to steal, but said she knows how I missed my wallet, she almost sat on it when she got in the car, sounds like plenty of time to me) but who am I. after speaking with the manager he gave me a "legal action" number to call and report it, but it was for the stores security system instead, kinda rude but was expected after the conversation we had the day it happened, (when I asked if I could speak to him outside when I got the the door, Mrs. T I heard you tell the other worker "she thinks I stole her money" and YES, I know you did.). So if you want an affordable car to take you on a vacation, I recommend the place, just don't leave anything in the car. read more

I rented from Hertz in Mishawaka a few times because the prices were low. I put up with the attitudes and very unfriendly customer service a few times until i had THE WORST experience. I returned a car very close to closing and there were people in the lobby so i dropped the keys in the drop box and left, expecting everything was ok (car was clean and gas was full). I didn't want to have to wait to check out and I figured they didn't want to have to stay over closing time. An hour goes by and I get a call saying i'll be charged $300 for smoking in the car. I was flabbergasted because neither me nor my girlfriend smoke, no smokers had been in the car, and we hadn't been around any smokers. The lady wouldn't hear me out, kept talking over me, and was rude. I argued with her and another rep, then spoke with a manager who promised me that someone had smoked in the car. After speaking with the manager a couple of times he finally called his manager who said they'd "put an air filter in the car for an hour" and see how it smelled then maybe would give me a refund of the $300. The filter took the non-existent smell out and the money was refunded but it's a shame they are able to do this without any real process in place. Are these Hertz employees trained smoke hounds? How do they know? it's a shame they could do this to anyone without any real evidence. Needless to say we go with Enterprise now. read more

Bait and switch. Reserved a car on line went to pick it up. Lady had very bad attitude. We were given a 2017 Chevy Cruz we were asked for social security numbers because it's a $30.000 car. The average price paid on a Cruz was 17 grand. The reservation was under my name, we used the business card for payment and they charged $14 more for additional driver because we used the business card and not my personal one. I inspected the car it had scratches on the drivers side back panel I took pictures of it sent them to my wife for time stamp went inside showed the person who said yes we don't charge for normal wear like that. Still going to keep the pictures because I just don't trust them. Then when checking in I waited there 5 minutes while the guy tried to remember his password! Do your self a favor stay way you'll be happy you did. read more

After a car accident our insurance carrier had recommended Hertz for a nearby rental company. Never again will I go to Hertz. Our insurance covered rental for at least a month yet we had multiple issues with them charging our account instead. Numerous phone calls over a series of days were made to clear it up and no one ever returned our call. Hope and pray you don't get a flat tire. They will expect you to take the tire off, get it patched, put it back on AND pay a fee. Customer service was completely lacking. Go to Enterprise, we've always had a great experience with them. read more

Called this morning for a quote due a week rental to get through the holiday. We I arrived to pick up the car the price had increased 20% in a few hours somehow. The lady behind the counter was helpful in no way and rude in explaining the reasoning behind it. Took this bad first impression and the number of additional poor reviews and decided to take my business elsewhere read more

Went online to book a reservation for noon the following day, showed up at 1:30pm to pick up the car and they still hadn't even washed or vacuumed it from the previous customer. The lady leaves to go wash and vacuum the car, 20 minutes later the lady comes back with a clean car however it only had 1/4 tank of fuel in it. She stated I needed to bring the car back with the exact amount of fuel I left with, which is a little difficult if your driving any long distance. The car ran fine throughout the rental however the return process was just as tedious and annoying. Spent 10 minutes just waiting for someone to come to the counter then another 15 minutes waiting for him to take care of the customer in front of me while spending most of his time on the phone. Just remember if you decide to rent from this location make sure to set your expectations lower than a visit to McDonald's, and you always get what you pay for. Cheers! read more

Rented a car threw a travel site used hertz and booked car to be picked up at 5:30 pm. I then called to confirm they would have a vehicle available and was informed they close at 5:30 and then the gentleman asked me if I could come in earlier so I did but the only available time I had was 3:30 and when I rented the vehicle I was charged the extra 2 hrs when I called and asked why they said well you showed up 2 hrs earlier. Outdated systems- reserved a compact car online, got there, and was informed they don't actually have any cars available. That the online reservation system reserves the price but not an actual vehicle. Which is interesting because... ...they had one -and only one- vehicle left, an SUV. Conni stated they could rent that to me instead at full price. So, apparently it doesn't really reserve the price, either. I'm not sure why they bother with an online "reservation" system at all. But at any rate. It gets better. I can handle an outdated system (usually). I can't handle being treated like trash when the outdated system causes a problem. Conni didn't care. "Luckily" she isn't the only one at Hertz capable of being uncaring, rude, and unwilling to help- you can experience these same wonderful frustrations by calling their national number, too! Check out the South Bend location, though. Finally got a vehicle figured out over there, and the lady was VERY nice. Hertz ought to let her handle their Mishawaka and call center customer service training. South Bend location has some pretty rough reviews, too, but at least you'll be treated with dignity. read more

I've been renting from this location for about two months now and I love it! The manager, Michelle, is awesome and really goes the extra mile! I've also dealt with Jim and he was also very nice and helpful! I would definitely recommend them! My dad also used them when he came into town and he had nothing but good things to say about the customer service at this location! read more

When we went in to get the car the lady behind the counter pointed out that without the extra insurance we would be responsible for all paint chips.scratches, and chips in the windshield. The car we were given had a rough life the entire front end was scratched up and loose like it was driven up on a sidewalk, the rear had a dent that was pulled out and painted with a spray can that didn't quite match the original car color and there was several scratches. When we pointed them out to the lady she told us we were getting way to picky and were going to be scrutinized when we returned it if we kept it up. The lady also stated if we smoked in the car we would be fined, we don't smoke but when we opened the door the whole car wreaked of smoke. Bad customer service, very rude help, and not a very good car, extremely disappointing experience won't do it again and won't recommend them to anyone. read more
