There are many reasons why I do this (and I've done this at least a dozen times). When I come to Chicago, I often do not need a car for the first several days of my trip, so I don't need to rent from the airport shortly after arrival. However, even if I did need to have a car from the the outset, I would probably opt to take Lyft or Uber from O'Hare to Naperville. Why? Because unlike the airport lots, which charge all sorts of taxes and concession recovery fees that add about 60% to the base rental rates, at this location the added fees come to less than 10%. Also, because this is a small location, service has always been very quick. And as soon as your paperwork is settled, they pull the car right up to the front, so all you have to do is step out the door and into your waiting car. There are some drawbacks, of course. If you walk into this location without a reservation, it is possible that there may be a very limited selection - or even no cars at all. Also, you will be limited in what you can rent. With some advance planning, however, you can avoid these pitfalls. I always come here with a reservation, and there has always been a car for me. Sometimes I even luck out by getting a upgrade to an SUV or minivan (yes, for me a minivan is an upgrade).

I drove it up to Fond du Lac Wisconsin…read morefor work, was there for two days and then tried driving back on 6/25 just after 11am. 20 minutes into my drive, while on the highway doing 70mph, the car lurched and then the dashboard lit up showing the vehicle was overheating. I popped the hood and come to find there is basically no oil in the brand new vehicle. They were unable to get a tow truck to me quickly stating it would be 2 hours from when they were first notified of this issue and given an address for the driver to meet me at. I then drove roughly 3-4 miles from where I was at to West Bend only to find that the Enterprise is no longer there, luckily the car salesman directed me to where the new spot was 1.5 miles down the road. Since this occurred, I have had no response from the branch on how to rectify this issue and ensure other customers are not put into a dangerous situation due to their gross negligence. This also caused me to miss several scheduled work meetings that I traveled to up from the Dallas area. Terrible service on the vehicles by them and even worse customer service after the incident occurred. I would not recommend this location to anyone.

Mind you Waukesha, WI is 2 hours NORTH of Naperville, IL, we used our own I-pass and all the tools per our I-pass were paid. Got home returned the vehicle and then a few days later got a "citation" from enterprise saying we missed 2 tolls in Markham, Il at 5:05pm and 10:20pm. HMM well that would be some kind of MAGIC that here we are at a wedding in WI and getting charged for tolls in Markham, IL at the same time. Called enterprise and spoke to 4 separate people, responded to the emails asking for proof and SENT them proof, time stamped photos from wedding for BOTH tolls, called the Illinois tollway authority and had an enterprise employee speak to them. The tollway authority has NO record of sending this citation nor any record of the vehicle traveling south to Markham,Illinois. We got off the tollway in Downers Grove and that was the last exit going north or south for the vehicle. Enterprise charged my card, so I called again, the employee said to escalate it and ask for a manager in the customer service dept. So I did the NASTY lady I spoke to kept talking over me, saying I wasn't telling the truth, saying she was the ONLY manager. What a SCAM, if they do this to 100 people a month that's $2800 because the toll was $3 (that we didn't go through) PLUS a $25 fee! SCAM!!! and the person answering the emails needs to check themselves, again I did nothing wrong we weren't even in the STATE and they keep saying that we somehow were in Markham, il @ 5:05pm and in Waukesha, WI @ 5:07pm! Prove it, we have photos of the car going north and south and getting off at Downers grove 55th street plaza. Shame on such a big company for NOT doing the right thing and SCAMMING customers who rent from them! Just got ANOTHER email from their customer relations " telling me that because I rented the car in Illinois I am guilty". Again check your info before you send emails and put it in writing! They are absolutely useless, nothing I was promised was given; not the time, comparable car, or even a clean car. The Hertz Corporation should clean house and decide to actually try and operate an ethical and professional business. I am glad I work at a very large company that uses Hertz all the time because I will make sure they drop them and that none of my friends or acquaintances ever use them again. I am going to post this review on every ratings site and call customer service until Hertz decides to take some sort of accountability for the awful service they offer. My car has been hit twice in the past year and required a rental while body work could be done at Accurate Auto Body. I went through Hertz because it is located within a couple miles of the shop. During the summer I was hit and I scheduled a time for them to pick me up at the shop and called again the morning of to confirm. 40 minutes after they were scheduled to arrive they showed up. To their credit they apologized and gave me a "fully loaded" car at no extra cost. To their discredit the "fully loaded" Chevy didn't even have all the standard features my base model Civic has. I was also 45 minutes late to work because of their incompetence and a slightly better car doesn't help that very much. Fast forward to the winter- my car was hit again while parked on the street. I scheduled a pickup through Hertz . When I called, I was transferred 3 different times, I had to tell each person all of my information policy numbers license numbers names insurance, and then I was transferred to another person who seemed to have no idea why I was transferred to them and I had to retell them. After a 20 minute call I was done. 3 weeks later I got a call from Hertz asking if I was still interested in renting a car from them because they had no record of me calling before. I had the prior call confirmation number and after I had told them all of my information for the 4th time, they were able to find the reservation in their system. At this point I should have been prepared for utter incompetence but I tried to stay positive. I called to confirm 2 days before my pickup just in case and they said everything is ready and I would receive a comparable car but I should call the day of to "remind them". Can they not schedule it themselves?? The morning of I called an hour before and told them that I would be at the shop between 9:10am and 9:20am. They showed up at 9:45am after 2 calls from the auto body shop and myself. I had waited outside for 25 minutes (it was -2 degrees outside and windy). The same girl showed up that was late last time in a dirty, snow, and ice covered Mazda. She drove me back to the shop while never apologizing for being late instead she kept trying to make small talk. At the Hertz location I asked again to confirm that I would be receiving a comparable car and they said "yes, definitely". I asked if it had Bluetooth, Pandora, or a rearview camera, they said, "No but it has Skyactive technology." This would be comical if it was happening on TV but they were serious... How does having a different transmission and drivetrain make up for all the missing features they originally promised? How they can work for a car rental company and have no idea what is in their cars or what it means amazes me. It turns out the dirty Mazda she showed up in was the one they were giving me. It had ice and snow on the windows, sticky stuff all over the console and the cup holders. The steering wheel had food on it and the car had a quarter tank of gas. So at this point I was over an hour late for work and now had to go fill the tank.
