Horrible customer service here at this Hertz. Dropping off my rental car and they said can't give me a ride to the body shop. Then they said they need to go wash a car and left me here in line without checking me out yet. As they walk out they recommend I call an Uber. The line continues to grow as I wait. 4 others in line now behind me and still no one here at the counter. The Herz representative finally comes back and after a few more minutes, starts to help me. "Did somebody promise you a ride home? I replied "last time they told me I can get a ride when I drop it off". She replied "unfortunately, on the weekends,, I'm by myself". Then she asked me if I knew how many miles the odometer reads. I said No Within 30 seconds from saying that, she starts asking the person behind me what name THEIR reservation is under and starts to look that up. I had a good experience here with a car rental for the week. I got a 2015 Ford Focus (which I ended up really enjoying) and it took me from point A to point B while my Champagne Baby was in the shop. It's a straight up car rental that I got to check in/out efficiently, booked an awesome deal ahead of time online and had no problems. Just remember to make sure you take everything out of your car before you return the rental including the garage opener control lol :P read more

I tried to go to the survey but it was disabled, so I am coming here to tell you that your Hertz staff member at the Oxnard Airport was rude, disrespectful, dismissive, and a sexist. He needs to be terminated. Upon check in he says he doesn't have the car I reserved (a compact) so he offers an upgraded car (compact SUV) at an additional charge not complimentary. It was not MY fault the car I reserved showed as available and HE did not have it when I arrived. The employee's instructions to me upon giving the keys was "be careful with my car and bring it back with a full tank." If I were a man, had he told me to "be careful"? Did he pull up my driving record? I think not because he would have seen a clean record with no at fault accidents since 1999 (when I was 17). I found the remark to be disgusting and incredibly offensive. And since when is it HIS car to be taking such a condescending tone with me? Upon return, I arrive at 2:30, he says "good thing you got here. I was about to leave." I ask, "don't you close at 3?" His response - "yes, but I was going to leave anyway." Rude and uncalled for. He asked about the car. I told him it was fancier than I was use to so I didn't mess with too many of the features. His response, "good, because you shouldn't be messing around with things you don't understand." Again, had I been a man, had he taken such a disrespectful and abrasive and offensive tone? I think not. I also found a parking ticket that had been left under a seat tucked under the floor mat when I was making sure it was spotless upon return, and let him know it was tied to the license plate not the driver so that should be taken care of ASAP as it was passed the date the fees were due. Not one "thank you" or sign of gratitude at saving a future renter from having their car towed when the license plate was next run. This whole experience was awful and made me sick to my stomach that Hertz would even consider employing such sexist and rude people. As a customer, I have never been treated with such disdain and disgust. I will never be back and I will make sure my experience is shared as to spare as many as I can from such treatment. read more

I should've read carefully the reviews before I actually made a reservation. I gave this place the benefit of the doubt and since I booked my PREPAID rental online, what can go wrong right? And so I booked my rental about a month ago, the rates were too good to be true. It came out to a total of $83.83 for 16DEC 5pm - 20DEC 9am. I even called the day before the pickup date to confirm and asked if I go past the return date, will they still honor me the rate I got online which was $16.97 per day and SAM said yes. Picked up my rental as scheduled, returned the rental 20DEC before 3pm because SAM said anytime before 3 since I picked up at 330pm. The counter was already closed and so I did a key drop off, stamped the time and went home. The next day I saw a pending charge on my card for $65 - thought yeah that's about right. My husband called 2 days prior to rent a car and was given "the shop rate" then when I got here they wanted to charge me double that rate. Then I was asked for my Social security number so they could run a credit check on me because I was paying with my debit card?!! I have NEVER been asked for that information or to run a credit check. Is that a new thing? I have rented here earlier this year at this same exact place and didnt have ANY problems. I'm going to call AAA and tell my rep that I will NEVER rent from Hertz again or reccomend them to anyone! I don't appreciate being stranded at the airport. I've rented here a few times, and it's hit-or-miss at best. Sometimes there aren't any cars available. Sometimes you get stuck with a lower car class than you reserved, but you pay the original reservation price. On my most recent trip, I received a mysterious $80 service charge on my emailed receipt. I called the office and spoke to a "manager". Although they're the ones that assessed the charge, they were unable to tell me what it was for and they were unable to remove it. They insisted that I call the billing department at a 1-800 number to remove the charge. I attempted to call multiple times and was unable to talk to an actual human being, despite the fact that I was calling during the stated business hours of 7 AM to 7 PM Central Time Mon to Fri. I work with this Hertz office several times a weeks and feel confident in their abilities to deliver what I need if not something better! Sam is the general manager and he is always willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done and keep his customers happy. I will choose Hertz for my car reservations in other locations because of the experiences that I have had here. The reason that they only get 4 stars and not 5 is that they are a little more expensive than the other locations at this facility, so if you are price sensitive I would recommend Enterprise instead. read more

Had a Hotwire reservation. I went there to rent the car to be told they were out of cars. They could put me on a waiting list. Of course Jill told me she tried to call me to let me know. It's 2018. The last time someone told me they tried to call me but could find a way to reach me----was ALSO lying. Worst customer service ever. The lady named Jill at the front desk didn't even want to do an inspection of the car before I rented it. Then she lied to me and told me that the scratches had to be 7 inches which is really 1 inch. Then after making her go over the car I still found more scratches and it made a really bad noise. Had to go to Thousand Oaks to trade in the car because it was horrible and I didn't want to deal with her again. I really don't recommend dealing with Jill at all, very disappointed. read more

Worst company to go through. I originally rented it from the Ventura blvd location. It took 15 minutes before someone helped me and I was the only person there. The car only had a half tank of gas, it was dirty and had trash from a previous customer in it. Because the Ventura blvd location didn't have a drop box, I had to drop it off at another location. What they failed to tell me was that I was going to get charged for changing locations! I called customer service and they were rude, didn't believe my story and still charged me the additional fees. We had reserved a car for $85 then realized it wouldn't be big enough for 4 adults with luggage. We went in to the agency and spoke to the rep at the counter who said we could reserve a small SUV for $120. When we picked up the vehicle it was a Tahoe at a rate of $175. We were not told of the rate increase and have not had an issue with Hertz billing in 20 years so just tossed the paperwork in the glovebox like normal. When we found the charge on our card we contacted Hertz by phone, and in person twice speaking to both the asst mgr and regional manager. Neither helped to correct the situation. Rented a car Monday so we could leave early Tuesday. But they didn't have the car we reserved, so we had to take the smaller one. Oh well. Tuesday we get pulled over for expired registration. They hadn't put new tags on for a month. So we lost an hour going to the Ventura office where I waited because no one manned the rental desk, but we have tags! Late start, but that's okay we have some time. We get to our destination for a party and find out that the trunk is soppy wet. The black carpet and the under carpet are soaking wet. They squish when you press your fingers on it Our presents and various personal items are ruined by water damage. Trunk must have been left open during car wash. Everything in the trunk was soaked. Then we called national number who told us to drive two hours to nearest major airport. Local offices wouldn't exchange the car. So today, on a ten hour drive we are adding more time to exchange the car in a two hour detour. And while the National Hertz people have been very apologetic, we couldn't get our full size car as a replacement because of our original agreement Everyone in the big airport had a good laugh at the trunk with sodden carpets, and our wet luggage. We reserved a rental and the reservation was confirmed. When we got there they said they didn't have any cars available and that people just weren't returning their cars. I asked them if they could call other locations - they said they did but every location was in the same situation. We even came back later and they still didn't have any cars returned. We ended up having to rent at the next counter - Budget. They had cars available - but we had to pay more. In this economy - this seems a great way to lose customers. I would not recommend them. By far the worst experience I've ever had in my whole 83 years. My daughter spent 2 hours researching and looking for the best value for my fix income self. Using my gold rewards points! She was able to fit my 3 doctors appointments into a itinerary that i would end up paying $11 for 3-days rental. However, because my doctors in LoS Angeles and Hertz Airport location was open it was perfect. I get to the counter Jill, was rude and overwhelmed, clearly it was noticeable. She swiped my credit card, it declined, I don't know what amount she ran it for, but she would not run it a second time? At that moment she kinda tossed me to the side and helped someone else. No where does it say, location managers, employees, or what have you, in your policy or disclosures that a credit card can not be ran only one time in a 24 hr period. 2 weeks after returning my car they charged $100 to my card on file with no notification which included the fuel charge which I had prepaid for. I have called 5 times now over the last 2 weeks and their joke manager has yet to return my phone calls despite being told repeatedly that I would hear from him soon and even that he had said he had returned my call and resolved the situation even though that never happened. I called the 800 number and they said that this one incompetent employee is some how the only person who can refund the charges. I was in my first ever car accident and I decided to go with Hertz for a rental car. When I got there the employee said they needed my credit card as a temporary hold of $50 will be charged but then reimbursed for taking possession of the vehicle. The employee told my dad and myself that the car had gas, all we needed to do when returning the vehicle was to make sure it was a quarter of a tank full. As time went on I took the rental car to my dealership and they returned it. Come to look on my bank statement and they charged me $80 for not filling the car up with a full tank. First of all the car did not have a full tank and second of all that's not the information my dad and myself were given. And $80 for fuel when the car I was given a Chevy Cruze would never even take $80 in gas? We called the branch department in Ventura, CA and the employee was of no help and very rude. Her manager was obviously not a real manager because they are usually all about customer service, they basically didn't care that this was completely fault of one of their employees who obviously didn't give the right information. Will never ever rent a car from Hertz and I actually told my place of employment because they rent cars from Hertz every once in awhile for trips. Read about the bad customer service, but never experienced it until today. I returned a car at 4:40 pm that was due at 5:00 pm and dropped the key in the Express Return as I was in a hurry to get somewhere else. Once I got back to my place of residence and started unpacking my things from my trip, I pulled out my rental record and noticed that I should have filled out a slip that was contained within and dropped it in the box with the key. I called the office as soon as I realized that I made a mistake (5:16 pm) and let them know the key was in the box, but I did not put the rental record with it as I didn't realize I had to, completely my mistake. The young man on the other end of the phone (believe his name was Aaron or at least that is what it sounded like), immediately asked why I would drop the key in the box if their office was open. He asked the question in an accusatory manner as if I was late and trying to hide it. I told him I was in a hurry and dropped the key in the box, but wanted to give them a call as I realized I didn't put the rental record with it like I was supposed to. He goes on to ask in a rude tone, when I dropped it off and I told him approximately 30 minutes ago. He then proceeds to say that if I was a minute late he was going to charge me an extra day. He asked me to hold while he went to check for the key, which I did. Once he came back he obviously realized I was not trying to lie to him and he told me my total price. I told him that he didn't have to automatically jump to taking a rude stance and saying that he was going to charge me for another day. Maybe he was having a bad day, but his customer skills were lacking to say the least. I understand that people may try to take advantage of them at times, but in a customer service business you shouldn't automatically take a rude stance with the customer which is exactly what he did and it was not appreciated in the least bit. Certainly not trying to get him in trouble, but as a customer that has used this facility a few times and choose to spend my hard earned money with them, the rudeness is not something that I will tolerate at all. read more

We received a rental car from the Ventura branch hertz rental car site on king dr.. It had just arrived from Oxnard airport. I have NEVER received such a filthy dirty rental car in all my traveling history. The seats were covered in dirt with gum on one of them. The carpets really needed vacuuming, there was bird poop on the windshield. The back of the seats and the door panels were covered with dirty hand prints and smudges. I'm not sure this car had been cleaned at all! I ended up having to take it to the car wash. There was no way I was going to go on a long trip in such a dirty car. It's not a good value if you have to spend extra money to clean the car, AFTER paying to rent it. Next time Enterprise. They take more pride in providing a good service and a CLEAN vehicle. read more
