This place gets two stars because of the nice man at the front desk but otherwise it's a complete mess. I've rented from here twice this year- once in January and once in early July. Both times the check in process was terrible. The last time, I checked in and paid online to save time. I was supposed to get a text message or email notifying me where my car was and just hop in and go. That never happened. So I went to the front desk and the entire system was down. So I had to wait for that to reboot. Then the credit card system wouldn't work, so I had to wait for that to reboot. Finally I get the car and it's got dirty windows and a ton of scratches. Next time I'll pay a bit more to avoid the mess this place is. read more

Needless to say we had a trip planned & were supposed to leave same day. We called corporate and were told that our vehicle WAS at the location & they arent sure why the MANAGER said the reservation was cancelled. Prepaid Reservation, Closed Office, Zero Customer Service. I've rented from this Hertz location inside the JW Marriott Desert Springs several times, but after this experience I won't be returning. I prepaid for a vehicle on May 29 for pickup on June 13 at 12:00 PM. My confirmation clearly showed a noon pickup time. Because this was an important trip, I tried calling the office that morning to confirm everything was ready. No answer. I then completed Hertz's online check-in process. At the end, Hertz told me my check-in was complete and that I would be notified around 11:30 AM when my car was ready. That notification never came. I drove about 40 minutes to the location and arrived around 12:20 PM, only to find the office completely closed and no way to retrieve the prepaid vehicle. The hotel front desk contacted the Hertz manager, who explained that employees leave at closing time because customers sometimes don't show up for prepaid reservations. Apparently, Hertz sees no problem with allowing customers to schedule a pickup at the exact time the office closes. Think about that for a moment. If your office closes at noon, why would you allow customers to book a noon pickup? And if you're going to leave, why not call, text, or email the customer whose prepaid reservation is sitting there waiting? The most frustrating part wasn't even losing access to the vehicle--it was the complete lack of concern from management. There was no apology, no attempt to help, no effort to find a solution. I was simply told to call the Hertz 800 number. I prepaid. I completed online check-in. I followed Hertz's instructions. Hertz failed to send the promised notification, failed to contact me, closed the office, and then acted like the problem was mine. If you're considering renting from this location, be very careful about pickup times and don't assume a prepaid reservation means your vehicle will actually be available when you arrive. read more

Do yourself a favor and do not book here if you want to receive the type of car you actually reserved. Why would I book a pricey 7 seater w/ lots of luggage space if I didn't truly need it? And why would you assume a smaller SUV would suffice? Zero common sense or customer service. This is the 3rd time at this location. The attendant was smug and unhelpful each time. This must be a requirement to work here. The one time I managed to get a car, it was filthy inside and made loud knocking noises the entire ride to LAX. Glad we made it without a breakdown. This team is one of the best I have experienced & I have rented often around the US. Jeremey & Donald always take care of me like a VIP... the rental is always clean & full of gas when I arrive. Even if there is a line of customers ( which happens because the hotel & conference center is busy!) I find the patience to wait because I know they are taking care of each customer with great attention & care. Some customers are demanding, some are impatient, but everyone is taken care of They get to know their customers & anticipate needs. Corporate should take note! Manager at this location is a complete jerk. Reserved an economy car while my vehicle was in the shop for the week. It said manager special or something similar and I was notified that manager special when I got there instead of economy car would be a 12 passenger van with a smug grin. He told me that he can get me into something else, but it would be an additional charge. Of course you're in a bad spot because there's no other option so I told him just give me the van. I'm just driving to my house and getting back-and-forth for the week. Upon leaving the tires were low, so I notified them and they couldn't air the tires up with their machine so they gave me a different van an older one again not complaining just trying to get back-and-forth while my car is in the shop. Drove the van to my house, parked it and took it back at the end of the week. My second experience which had I known that Hertz is also dollar Rent-A-Car and thrifty as well and I ended up in the same Hertz rental car with the same manager. My rental for the week was $185 with tax and everything when I booked online he rang me up for 250 bucks give or take. I told him that that's not what the agreement said that I reserved. He said thrifty rental puts a hotel tax on there, but he would take it off for me. That's a bunch of nonsense and more games from this guy. He said he took it off and tried to ring me up again and it was still $30 higher than I agreed at this point he said well I'll just give you a free day. It's easier that way. This guy is complete bait and switch manager who's trying to up his numbers at people's expense by sneaking in little fees and whatever he can get away with if you're not paying attention this guy is a crook. This is a terribly operated Hertz location at the Desert Marriott Hotel. During the process of managing the rental, on several occasions, nobody answered the phone during regular business hours. On the day of the rental, I was told I'd be picked up at the auto repair shop at 2 pm. I had to call three times to be told it would be another hour. Upon returning the car, I was told to just leave the car at the auto repair shop and they would pick it up the following day. They never came. The car sat at the auto repair shop for two weeks. Had to call them to remind them to pick up the car. They blame the auto repair shop for not notifying them. They don't keep track of their inventory. State Farm should drop their contract with them. read more

Rented a 2024 Mazda C5 for 3 days. On the 2nd day noticed flat right rear tire. Called Hertz who want to charge me to change tire since I declined coverage. Only drove vehicle 7 miles to my home. Would if the vehicle encountered a more serious issue such as engine overheating. Would the customer still have to pay out of pocket? Never again with this company. read more

Initially I was upset that I wasn't able to get the car that I booked for and had to pay an additional fee; however, the staff was able to educate me on how the reservations system works. I booked a reservation over the weekend on Saturday to pick up a standard car on Monday at this location. I received a curtesy call Monday morning from a staff at this location that my reservation is on standby due to the fact that I booked this reservation during closed office hours. The standard car I booked for was unfortunately not available and I had the option to wait till later in the day for an availability (at no extra charge, but not guaranteed a car) or I could just pay an additional upgrade fee for a larger car because that was all they had. I told them I had received a confirmation of the reservation I had made and should not be charged extra, but they informed me that a confirmation does not guarantee me a car, it just notifies the system that I would like to book a vehicle. Although I decided to pay the additional cost for an upgrade, because I was unable to wait for an availability, I would still recommend this location. The staff were all friendly, attentive, communicative, and I was still able to leave with a car. I am big on customer service and I believe that they definitely exceeded my expectations. The car received was in great condition and was thoroughly cleaned. What I would recommend when booking a reservation in the near future is to book the rental in advance, for a smooth rental transaction and to be guaranteed a car at no extra charge. A side note, they are not open on the weekends so don't book on Saturday or Sunday because although it's more than 24 hours in advance the staff is not in the office to make sure that they have your car ready. Overall, I am a happy customer that would gladly return in the future. read more

I wish I could give more than five stars! I'm a teacher and my director and I traveled to Palm Desert for a work convention. We had a horrible experience flying in and weather was going to be horrible flying back, so we decided to be safe and rent a car to return home. We had problem after problem and couldn't catch a break. German was SO incredibly helpful and kind and really helped us out when we were in a rough spot. He remained professional even when he had impatient (and to be honest, rude) customers. He handled everything with care and showed genuine compassion for his customers. This location runs a completely unprofessional operation and beware that they will look to insert hidden charges on your bill upon returning the car. I rented a car in Las Vegas and returned to this facility only to the next day get a copy of my invoice via email with a $500 fee for smoking in the vehicle. Mind you, the vehicle smelled of smoke when we rented it yet we were in a hurry to leave Las Vegas so accepted the vehicle anyway. Upon receipt of the bill, I called the Palm Desert location twice. Both times I was put on hold and then they hung up without addressing. I drove to the facility and spoke to the manager, a gentleman named German. He could not be more unprofessional. He had no excuse for why they hung up twice. He then said they found ashes in the care (must have been there from prior renter) and that he would need the Las Vegas location to confirm that it was pre-existing before he would refund me. He could not find a phone number to get in touch with them so he emailed them with me on Cc. Luckily I replied to the email with more information only to find that the email bounced as it was a bad email address. I reached out to German multiple times to ask him to resend to the right person and he became completely unresponsive. I am now dealing with Hertz corporate on this who also have been horrendous to deal with. Beware -- this location will charge you extra and you will spend hours of your life trying to get refunded. Due to German and this locations behavior, Hertz has lost a 20 year customer for life. read more

I do NOT recommend Hertz or this rental site. I prepaid for a Luxury sedan, and the attendants tried convincing me that a Toyota Avalon was in the same class as a BMW. They were smirking at each other and then said that Hertz has the right to define which car is considered a luxury vehicle, so save your money and do not pay for a higher-class vehicle. Also, the attendant told us to wait in the lobby while he got our car which took him 45 minutes. Lastly, they gave us a vehicle that was less than 1/2 full, and we returned it more than 1/2 full, and they charged us for fuel. You can't expect customers to return a car with more gas than we got. Go somewhere else if you have a choice. read more

I had reserved a month in advance for a multi-month rental of an economy car...a gas I driven car, not an electric car. When I arrived at the branch office, I was told they didn't have a car for me...only an electric car...one that didn't even have an adapter in it!! The manager, Jeremy Butler, was not helpful at all...he was rather dismissive, disrespectful, & argumentative. I was told to drive to the airport (30 minutes away) & see if they had a car. I asked if they could call that office. Here's their reply, "That won't work, because they don't answer their phone." REALLY!!?? Jeremy went on to tell me that he didn't have to honor my reservation. I call an hour prior to confirm and am told that he "Shane" called everyone (not me) apparently he is dislexic and had the numbers turned around, thus no call. Seems to be a common mistake with this place, if you read the reviews. But at any rate, why make a reservation??? it is clear they just hand cars out to whomever will put their credit card and the rest of us too bad!! If I could leave a Zero Star I would. I am absolutely appalled at not only the disgusting, ignorant and arrogant staff but the quality of the cars they have. I was firstly given a 37,000 mile Ford Focus that was scratched on every panel, cigarette burns in the seats and had been in at least 2 fender benders. This car was defective and dangerous, the rear wheel bearings had gone - the staff knew this aswell as you could see on the guys face (Diego I think) on my return. I kept this car until the Monday morning as the office closed 15 minutes after I collected it on the Saturday. I drove 103 miles in an unroadworthy and dangerous vehicle and was then told I needed to pay for fuel to which one can imagine my response. The manager (a blonde lady), who walked into the office carrying a tray of Starbucks, even drank some before serving me..... and throughout my complaint was more interested in the drink than assisting me. She did not apologise once for the potential danger and severe inconvenience stating I should've taken the car back to a different rental office. Why? This is where I rented the car from???? My replacement car after waiting for nearly an hour was a 36,000 Chevvy Sonic again scratched all over with several prominent dents. Well, well Hertz you lost ANOTHER customer. read more

Reserved a car 6 months in advance and when I showed up to pick it up, they did not have one for me. I was offered a pickup truck, family van or gas guzzling suv. Sitting at Hertz for 2 hours with 5 suitcases I had no choice but to take the suv, which they tried to convince me was an upgrade. They obviously gave out my car to someone else and had only the vehicles no one would ever rent. All the "I'm sorry" recitals are not enough. They should have called the airport Hertz and had them bring over a car. It did not even dawn on them to do that, the people at the desk were too busy trying to get going to lunch. How this company thinks it is the #1 rent a car company is beyond me. The service was the worst I have ever experienced and it was my first rental. I used Avis for 30 years and never had an issue. Manager treated us like idiots for thinking "reservation" meant they would actually have the car. He tried to get us to rent a 7-passenger van instead, for $65 more per day.
