TRUST THOSE WHO YELP REGULARLY... Worst car rental experience EVER! Four (4) customers waiting, one gal "helping" (used loosely), and [it turns out] at least two more people in back. All three (including the manager) could have made this a positive experience for all. One customer was returning his car and eventually gave up, handed in his keys, and left with family, who had been waiting on him for 20+ minutes... to simply return a car. I chimed in, only to have the gal in front complain that she is "only one person" and that there was "nobody else to help." We eventually found out the others were hiding in back. It took 45 minutes to pick up a pre-reserved car, only to find out they only had electric vehicles. Since I Ubered to Hertz, I was stranded and had to take whatever they had, as I was already very late by this point. As I was leaving (without a contract - I was told they couldn't print), I saw the customer who arrived after me leaving with a gas-powered car. She and I both booked our reservations the same day, while staff claimed same-day reservations only get electric vehicles. Charging them before returning them is time consuming and a real pain for those who aren't experienced. I considered call Hertz and the franchisee (assuming its a franchise) to offer to buy the business and turn it around, but I wouldn't want their prior lost business and reviews from customers like me. I've rented here twice because it's conveniently located near my house, and both times my vehicle wasn't available for pick up at the scheduled time despite me calling in advance to ensure that it would be ready. (I called Friday morning for 0800 Monday pickup, as they are closed weekends. They ensured the vehicle would be ready for 0800 pickup.) I arrived at 0803 Monday morning and there was no vehicle available. You'd think for Gold members who have spent thousands of dollars with this company that they would do better. Why call it a "managers special" when that's how everyone gets treated? Reserved an economy car 3 months ago. Went to pick up our car on time. No cars so they gave us a "free upgrade" to an EV (EVs are almost half the price to rent than the compact... how's that a "free upgrade?" That's ripping your customers off. EV wasn't going to work for a 1200 mile road trip that was scheduled around a gas vehicle. We are told "just take the polestar and you can swap it at the airport location." Fine. "Oh but we can't give you the polestar it's not cleared. You'll have to take a Bolt. Even less range for my road trip. Nice. "You can swap it at the airport." But wait. There's more! "We can't release the bolt either." Here's a 6.4 gas dodge 2500 that gets 9mpg but don't worry because they won't charge us more for it and we can still swap it at the airport. I take the truck to get the hell away from their knuckle dragging employee that's practically drooling on himself. Drive the 20 miles to the airport to be told "they shouldn't be telling people that. We don't have economy cars because those are all reserved. You can have an ev." I TOO RESERVED A SMALL CAR 3 MONTHS AGO! I flipped out and finally got a manager involved. He ended up giving us a chevy malibu that worked fine even if you can tell it was about to be retired from the fleet. Flat spots on the tires causing noise the whole drive. Both rocker panels heavily crushed in. Rear door heavily damaged. Smelled like cigarette smoke and the entertainment system was basically useless. As someone who works in the automotive industry I would bet money that this car was supposed to be retired and sold at wholesale a while ago but they keep having to put pissed off customers in it. But hey, at least it wasn't an EV I guess. read more

Nest day I went and I was told no inventory and no reservation. I call my insurance and change it to enterprise and in 1/2 hour Enterprise call me. My car was ready. Charged me a deposit and then when I arrived told me they don't except my bank, suggested I walk down Fulton to a different rental company. Then when I said I didn't feel comfortable with that offered to let me get a ride with two men, no thanks. One star for the first lady that greeted me right away and went to check the vehicle. There were four employees there when I arrived to return the rental a '22 Chevy Volt (don't recommend). There was one other customer besides me. The first lady came back and said everything was fine and to wait a second employee to finalize everything. Another employee came didn't say a word to me. She walked to the back and came back to ask if I wanted a receipt emailed or printed. I said printed and she never came back. As I was standing there another employee came and started working at the computer in front of me and asked if I had a certain car. I said no and asked her if there was anything else I needed to do because my Lyft was there. She didn't know what I needed, so I left. This particular branch needs to work on communication. I can't say anybody had a bad attitude because only two people actually talked to me and they were respectful. Definitely room for improvement. read more

Now I know why they call it Hertz. Your head will hurt after dealing with this rental location. Buckle up, here goes... I rent an economy car while mine is in the shop. I show up and all they have is a dumpy red Chevy Sonic covered in scratches. Whatever. I just need a car to get back and forth to work. Day 3 of the rental and it's a windy day. I put my gym bag in the trunk and drive to work. As I'm on my break I decide to check on the car and low and behold...the trunk is wide open and my bag is gone. I'm thinking...did I lose my mind and forget to lock the car? No way I would do that. I'm super careful and always double check the doors. I close the trunk and lock the car again. The doors are locked and I think "let me check the trunk" and of course it is unlocked and it took so little pressure to open it that it was obvious that the wind blew it open. I moved the car to our lot where there was less wind and as soon as I parked, the trunk opened again. I spend 40 minutes trying to reach this location and customer service to no avail. Finally, I headed to Twitter and Facebook where I got to message with a live person. They said they couldn't help with an open reservation, but to let them know if the local rental agency didn't satisfactorily help me with my exchange. I show up the next day and tell them what happened. The nice gentleman checked the car and verified that yes, the trunk doesn't lock. He called his supervisor and she didn't want to give me the other car they had because it was a full size and not an economy...after all that I had been through. She gave me an attitude and said "you should have called us first." Which is when I showed her my phone and the 6 calls I made to their location yesterday. I then asked...what if I have an issue with the replacement? Who do I call. You will not believe what she said. She said to call another location that actually picks up their phone. Ahahahahaha so you want to tell me "why didn't you call us" when I did and you know you're never going to pick up the phone anyway? While I'm checking out the new car, the supervisor tells me "see, there's nothing wrong with the trunk. It's just a sensor issue." I'm like "ok how does the fact that you acknowledged that it's broken mean that it isn't a problem?" Lmao. So I get the new car and I get in and the key fob is reading an error. I'm like "excuse me but what is going on here?" She assures me...and by assure I mean scolds me because apparently I'm the idiot here...that the battery is just dead in the key fob. I ask her "so how am I supposed to lock and unlock the car?" She says "from the outside!" I'm like ok but how? I'm looking at the key fob and I don't see a key so I go inside and ask the guy about it and he says there's a key inside. How easy would it have been to just tell me that? I drive off and when I get to work I realize that nobody told me how to actually get the key out, so I'm in the car looking at YouTube videos of how to open the key fob. I figure it out and it's super inconvenient. My break comes up and I go outside to check on the car. I use the key to get in and the alarm immediately starts blaring because the car doesn't recognize that there is a key fob nearby. Thank you, geniuses at Hertz for not figuring out that this would be an issue. I decide to go to the location in midtown and they helped me right away. Apparently the battery was inserted incorrectly, but instead of the Fulton Ave location actually listening to me about how it said error, they basically made me feel like the idiot. I would reconsider who is the idiot here, especially since you don't know how to put a battery in a key fob of a car that's on your own lot. The saga continues as I extend this rental. I do not recommend renting from this company. Save yourself the hassle and find another rental provider. This past weekend, I rented a car for a trip to Los Angeles, a six-hour drive from my location. I reserved a small sedan, like a Ford Focus, but upon arrival, I was informed that my car had been given away. The only available option was a Kia Niro (an electric vehicle). When I declined and asked about availability at other locations, I was told I would have to call and book another reservation myself. Pressed for time, I reluctantly accepted the electric vehicle. However, despite the Niro costing over $100 less than my original reservation, I was still charged the higher price. To make matters worse, the car was completely uncharged. I had to charge it before starting my trip, and just 30 minutes into my drive, it died--leaving me stranded on the freeway, in the rain, alone. When I contacted Hertz's roadside assistance, I was told I would have to pay an additional $524 for them to service the car. Unwilling to pay such an outrageous fee, I opted to call a tow truck at my own expense to take me to a charging station. Even after charging, the car wouldn't hold a charge for more than 45 minutes to an hour. I had to stop seven times, turning a six-hour drive into a 15-hour nightmare. The return trip was just as frustrating. Upon returning the car, I was offered a $50 voucher--a completely inadequate response to the overcharging, inconvenience, and unsafe situation I endured. Since I will never rent from this company again, a voucher is useless to me. Customer service was unhelpful, and this was by far the worst rental experience I've ever had. Zero stars. read more

There was a storm warning in the Houston-New Orleans area while I was visiting family in Houston while awaiting the conference in New Orleans, where I was doing a presentation. I had to drop off the car at a different location. The company has been generous in helping me with this arrangement and working with me and my budget. I have been using Hertz rental company for a long time because my workplace advocates it. It has been convenient to walk up to your rental, choose the car you like and drive off. Also convenient to drop off and head to the airport shuttle bus without so much delay at drop off. I highly recommend Hertz Car Rental. read more

Clearly a crooked Bait and Switch shop. We reserve a gas powered car online but when we arrive to pick up the car before 9am they tell us all they have is electric junk cars. This has happened more then once with these crooks. They will only rent a gas powered car to you for a higher price. Put these crooks out of business. They had nobody available to pick me up from the body shop 5 miles away. They knew I was coming and when I got there an hour later the manager told me they didn't have a car for me, that they had given away my prepaid car and had NOTHING available to rent. I asked the manager to locate another car for me at an alterante location and she did nothing to help facilitate this. She gave no apology for their mistake and I had to go to Avis a half mile away for a car. At least their driver was pleasant. I phoned at 2:30, and advised no cars available, hopefully tomorrow will be better. I explained that I need to be in Los Angeles in the morning, expressed my dilemma to the office manager, and later to the Sacramento area manager who said he would see if they could do something and call be back, I did not hear from him (poor client service), so I called the office again 30 minutes before closing, no change. 7/17/2024 Arrived at the Hertz service counter with a pre-paid reservation for a specific type of car. The service person should have given me something I asked for. After dragging it out he sent me out to the lot for a car, again not what I asked for the car was very dirty could not see out of the windows, returned to the service counter with no help they got very offensive and and did not want to give me a car of my liking. Because I prepaid I could not get my money back. Got stuck with a vehicle for less than what I paid more like rent reck dents all over torn carpet still dirty, and seats very unconformable. Basically a scam. You'll think it's a good idea because the price quoted online is lower than competitors, but they don't honor it, or they say it doesn't include mandatory protections or charges that the website said were optional. If that were standard for the industry, it'd be fair enough, but it's not; you'll wind up paying 1.5 to 2.5 times what you're quoted here, while at least two of the places down the street that seemed more expensive online honor their quotes and wind up being cheaper. Add that to the fact that Hertz seldom have the car you reserved and will try to upsell you on a more expensive one like it's the best deal they can get you, and you're better off going literally anywhere else. How these guys haven't been sued into the ground is beyond me; I think they're careful to steal small enough amounts that it wouldn't be worth the expense of court, but it winds up being much more than the competitors with the theft thrown in. read more

Two people for 4 people worth of work. Although they were very nice, they were way over worked. Short on cars. Overwhelmed with customers calling on non stop. I called for a pick up from my work. About 2.5 miles from there office. The lady said she would be there to get me by 330. I thought perfect, I get off at 330. It wasn't until almost 5 when she showed up. We get to the shop. Not only is she answering call after call. She has to go vacuum out the car they are giving me. The car smelled really bad. But vacuumed very well. Lol. I felt bad for the 2 girls working there. These girls could use a yard guy for sure. Even though she had to do it all herself, I was in and out of there in about 20 minutes. I received a confirmation, okay all good, we are set. Saturday morning I call on the dot when they opened. This spot is practicing discrimination. I had a 9am reservation I booked last week. When I came around 8:56am 2 customers were ahead of me. I guess they were wrapping up so, the agent left to get keys. When the customer walked out to clear her driver to go, Sam got impatient and asked if I had I reservation. I said yes and gave him my last name. He looked it up on his computer but, started scrambling before I gave him cards, He went to the back to switch the keys he was originally giving to the previous customer and brought another set to the other teller. The teller asked what are these for? Sam nodded to my direction and said "use these for her". After clearing the other customer, Sam asked me to come forward and provide my Drivers License and Credit Card. I gave him both and he began to tell me the card isn't valid. He also said he never seen the card before. I asked how much was the payment/authorization he said he wasn't charging anything because the card is invalid. I called my card issuer First Access through the Bank of Missouri and they gave me a healthy balance. They told me that card should not be invalid. I walked in to share the information again and he continued to swipe while telling me it's still invalid. I looked at the pin pad and recognized that nothing was even showing for me to verify his claim. He declined to rent to me unless, I had another form of payment. I booked through Expedia and was only prepared to utilize one card. I called Hertz customer Service and Agent name Kim agreed that this card shouldn't be invalid. 1. It is a physical credit card with hologram and CVV code. 2. It is a major credit card (Visa) 3. It has well over enough funds to complete the transactions however, It does not have a chip and I believe that is where Sam felt uncomfortable. I'm sure people come in with home made cards that look like me (African-American) but, I wasn't trying to pull one in that establishment. That exactly how he made me feel. I had the Hertz representative on the phone and he started yelling at me. After the agent offered some way to get things on the way, he still refuse to carry out the alternative once that call was over. Truth is, I got a pretty good rate through Expedia $96/week and I don't think he cared to agree with it vs. getting more money from a walk in. Do not use this place my Mom was with me as my witness.
