We rented an SUV but when we showed up they only had 3 cars available, a dirty old Nissan Ultima and 2 electric cars that I've never heard of. The absolute worst. I would give no stars if this app allowed. We rented our car 3 wks in advance. Got 2 emails from Hertz the morning of our rental while en route to Seattle from LA, inviting us to check in early via the app. Got to Hertz in Burien, WA and were told in the most emotionless way, no eye contact at all, by Tai, the guy behind the counter, that they had no cars. No explanation. Didn't matter that we had a confirmed reservation. He had to be coerced into calling nearby Hertz for help. We needed the car to travel 2 hrs away for visit w/family. No help from Tai or Hertz customer service. Neither took responsibility for leaving us in the lurch or did anything to help us. We ended up having to take a Lyft. It's not what goes wrong, it's what companies (or individuals) do when something DOES go wrong that counts. Tai and Hertz are the worst in this regard. read more

Terrible experience - do not recommend. We drove 12 minutes from the Seattle airport only to be told there were no rentals available, despite having made a reservation a week in advance. The staff at the counter had a list of reservations but admitted they didn't have time to notify customers about the lack of cars. Do not use this rental facility. They will slam you with hidden fees. The staff at the location weren't friendly or helpful at all. Desks were left unattended and customers left standing around for at least 10 minutes and nothing was properly communicated. After receiving our vehicle, was discovered a rotten tomato in it from the previous renters. They clearly don't clean the vehicles well, if at all. We did not have a good experience with Hertz in general, but especially this location. We will not be returning and would recommend you stay away. read more

He did not put my first and last name in. So it was the wrong information. He had a stick up his ass or something with how he was helping us. (He wasn't helping). We asked for help but he - had this stank attitude stating if he honored something for us - it would be considered fraud and that he didn't want to lose his job. We didn't ask for him to do anything to lose his job. We were politely asking what other options could be go about getting a rental. He walked around with his nose way up in the sky. Never before have I had such a horrible rental car experience than the one I had 1-1/2 months ago. I reserved a midsize car to be picked up at SeaTac through Expedia but when I got to the rental car facility, I was told I had take Uber to the Burien location. Upon arrival, I was told they had no cars left, despite my having my reservation confirmation in hand, because "they had overbooked." They said they only had two vehicles on the lot -- a large cargo van or a Ford Edge, but I would have to pay an additional $50 a day for the SUV. Despite not being at all comfortable driving such a huge vehicle, I was forced to take the SUV since I was then stuck at the facility without transportation. The tall, thin, African man was rude and unhelpful and wouldn't budge in the pricing. He said he would have to give me the SUV with less than half a tank of gas since it hadn't been filled up yet and it was closing time. By then, I had missed going to Kent to see my mother in the assisted living facility, which closed to visitors at 5:00. I originally had paid to have the car through late Sunday evening so I could attend a high school reunion dinner, but I had to return it before 5:00 since that facility closed at that time. I filled the tank at Handy Andy's, even though it had been given to me with less than half a tank of gas, and got to that facility at 4:15 only to find it closed! There was no one to check me in and it took me a long time to figure out that I was supposed to throw the keys down a slot and drive the car to the back lot myself, which I did. When I returned from Seattle, I saw they not only had charged me an additional $275 for the car for three days (a car I barely drove because it was too large for me to handle), but also for a full tank of gas -- even though I returned it with far more gas in it than it had when I drove away with it! All total, it cost me over $1,000 for three days. I have sent email and after email, made phone call after phone call, and today when I was transferred to Ty, the manager there, he told me the case was too old for him to do anything about!! What Hertz Burien did to me was criminal. I will NEVER rent from Hertz ever again, and intend to pursue this legally out of principle. These guys are liars and thieves!! read more

This was, unfortunately, the worst car renting experience I have ever had. I reserved a car at this place, hoping it would be cheaper than the absorbent prices at the Seattle airport. Unfortunately, when I showed up on the afternoon of Tues, 28 June 2022, they did not have the class of vehicles that I reserved other than one electric vehicle. So it was either I get an electric car, which I was uncomfortable using, or pay extra money to upgrade to an SUV, which I did not want to do. I spent the next THREE hours at the facility trying to sort this out. Daniel worked really hard to help me out. I cannot blame him for the poor service; the man literally was working by himself, checking in vehicles, checking out vehicles, cleaning, and sanitizing without any help as customers were coming through and tried everything he could. I even tried to cancel my reservation, but I could not reach the corporate office as I navigated the frustrating and annoying automated voice options with no success in reaching a live person. So, I was stuck. After futile attempts, Dan tried to get me a car that became available, but upon inspection, the windshield was cracked, so I couldn't check that one out. Luckily, a mom and daughter dropped off a vehicle one class below the one I reserved, and after another painstaking hour, I was able to get that car. Daniel was able to get it vacuumed and sanitized quickly, and I was on my way. As a result of this experience, I am personally disappointed and have serious reservations about using HERTZ for my car rental needs in the future. There are two lessons here for HERTZ to learn. 1) The computer system should be able to show which cars are available. The customer should get a free upgrade if a particular vehicle class is unavailable. It is not the customer's fault that the reservation and vehicle availability system does not talk to each other. 2) Take care of your employees. One person should not be doing all this work. If the company cannot adequately staff this location, then it should not be renting out cars. The poor leadership in this office is unacceptable. Leaving one person out to dry with no help is no way to treat your people. read more

This is the worst rental experience I ever had. I returned the car with a full tank thanks to a quick fill up from the Shell Gas station across the street. The Hertz guy processed my return and after paying the total with my credit card, I noticed that he charged me for fuel... even though he ALREADY inspected the gas tank and saw that it was FULL. I immediately brought it to his attention to get that fuel charge refunded and he said that he already closed his register and that there wasn't anything that he could do. He said to give the customer service number a call. I called Hertz three different times to get it refunded. The first was the day it happened and they told me they can't see the charge until 24 hours later. I called back the next day thinking it would be an easy fix. It was their error and they would happily fix it for me - I was totally wrong! They wanted me to provide a gas receipt showing that I paid for a full tank. ARE YOU SERIOUS?! First of all, I didn't ask for a gas receipt because I didn't think I would need it since I would be returning the car with a full tank of gas and I paid in cash anyways. Like really, who would think that they would get into trouble after doing what was right? If I knew that they needed a gas receipt as proof that I returned the tank full, I would have asked for one. The representative then said they could give me a one time refund of $20 back. Are you serious? That wasn't even the total fuel amount I got charged! They kept apologizing and saying that there was nothing they could do without proof of a gas receipt. Seriously?! How INCONVENIENT that I have to prove that I did everything correct when it was one of YOUR employees at this location who was negligent in processing my return and overlooked the full tank. I was so upset! I called back again and they said the same thing so I asked to speak with a supervisor. The supervisor apologized for the situation and said that they'll process the refund for the fuel charge this *one time* (if it gets approved) which I should find out in 3-7 business days. IM STILL SO UPSET! Their error caused me a huge amount of hassle and inconvenience which could have been easily avoided if they did their job correctly in the first place! Don't even think about coming here! There are other rental places you can use that's better than this! I know they won't be getting my business again. read more

Accidentally booked a rental here instead of the one at the airport (travel partner made silly mistake, don't ask). You can take the Fairfield Inn/Holiday Inn shuttle to get here (it's right next door). The guy handling our transaction was kind of a sneaky snake oil salesman. He kept trying to upsell us even when we said "No, thank you" very politely, and kept pushing. I haven't dealt with that at other Hertz rentals, although all of those rentals were at airports. Secondly, the car they gave us was kind of shitty. Even when I rent the cheapest car at an airport rental, it's still at least in passable condition. This car was an older model and kind of dirty on the inside. Was not excited about riding in it at all. I wish I could say 'you get what you pay for', but I've actually found cheaper day rates for better cars through different promotions that can be easily found on car rental websites or through your credit card companies, so it's not really worth it. read more

I used Orbitz to arrange for and pay for my hotel room and rental car while in spending 2 nights in Seattle. All taxes and insurance were included. When I tried to pick up the car in Seattle the agent said I owed an additional $86.87. I said, no, I paid this through Orbitz on-line. He said, you may have paid the hotel taxes and fees but not the auto insurance and taxes. I responded that my visa would cover my insurance and he said no this was the standard insurance. That charge alone raised my economy rental car charge more than $43/day. He then moved the subject to whether I wanted to pre-pay for gas--telling me their gas was 20 cents/gallon cheaper than the street rate. (This also turns out to be untrue because they charge you taxes on gas that you paid for when you return). I opted not to do that but I went ahead and signed for the car because he said the taxes hadn't been paid. When I returned I learned that the taxes he was insisting upon were optional and they were now charging me an additional $119 because in addition to the loss damage waiver insurance (LDW) they had tacked on some more taxes and fees. I asked to speak to the manager and after about 5 minutes she came out with the signed contract in her hand and said that she had reviewed the tape and that the agent had gone over the contract with me twice and that I clearly understood and agreed to the terms. I then asked her if she had heard me objecting to the terms and she said that the tape had no audio!!! I have read the class action against Hertz for taxing people on gas that they paid for and for other ways of padding their bill and I will never support this company again. read more

Incompetent and deceitful. Hertz is the WORST! ASK when you rent if they have a second key for the vehicle because if they don't, and if you return the car before the facility opens, and you lock the keys inside the car because you don't want to be liable if it's stolen (the return key lockbox is located INSIDE the LOCKED facility), they will try to charge you a 'key/parts' fee of $75., a road-side assistance fee of $75., a 'late return fee' of $12 (even tho I returned the car 10 hours earlier than I had said I would), a full extra day rental fee, and taxes. The original quote was $248.71 for 3 days...the end bill was $495.75. AND after being placed on hold for 20 mins, I get, 'I'm sorry, you won't be getting any refunds today. Thank you for choosing Hertz. Have a good day.' and then hung up on. You guys simply suck. read more

Honestly terrible. Didn't have my car when I got there. Said they would go get it but could be an hour or 2. Offered to call a lyft to take my wife and I to hotel and then lyft me back when they get one available. I obliged but never got a call back or anything. I tried calling and calling to no avail so finally I lifted myself there 4 hours later and they were about to close but I wasn't gonna miss my shot to get my car. Finally I was ahead of the line as they remembered I had been waiting for a car and there were still 4 ppl behind me who were waiting on their car. I got the first one which happened to be a Chrysler 300 and luckily was nice but after taking a long flight across the country and having to deal with all of this it's insane. read more

We flew into Seattle and were shuttled to the new car rental building on International Blvd. The rental and return went very smoothly, and the GPS was intuitive and worked very well. I also declined the car upgrade and the additional insurance. However, I was not prepared for all of the additional charges resulting from the new facility:1) Concession Recovery Fee( 2. )Vehicle License Recovery( 3.) Customer Facility Charge( 4. )Energy Surcharge( 5.) 17.2% tax on selected items (6. )5$ per day charge for a toll device, and charges for crossing a toll bridge. In all, more than $100 additional to the rental bill. In short, this Hertz location will cost more than the quoted price when you reserved your rental car. You may want to rent from Hertz in downtown Seattle, instead. read more

I tried to book online through Expedia and upon placing the reservation received a notification for my bank that the transaction had gone through but they never provided a confirmation number. When I call customer service to obtain the confirmation number they said the reservation was canceled (it was not), they would not reinstate the reservation , nor connect me with management to voice my concerns. I ended up calling my bank to reverse the $170.00 charge. They reminded me how business should be conducted. (Love Wells Fargo). I do not understand why AAA backs this company. read more

This company can leave you without any car even if you paid for the service already. I booked a car in Seattle, they didn't let me know about their closing time in advance. Someone called me at the last moment to let me know they were closing. They were closed when I arrived there. It's okay since these people are working for their shifts. However, nobody in the customer support tried to help. They tried to make me rebook another location with them that would charge me about 600-700 USD more. I even talked to their supervisor, but they are so stubborn that they cannot give me a car from another location. Horrible experience. I do not have a car now. I was left by their customer service with suitcases in front of their door and offered a refund later on. By the way, people working at this location is amazing, but the company sucks. To start they didn't explain anything about my contract and they ended up holding $500 in my account when I was told 250 max with a rep when I booked the car. Second they took 10 mins to find the car they had already got the keys for so I could leave. Third I specifically asked them about drop off and after hour key return, I was assured I could drop the car off at the location I picked up at and the key too. At 2 am I show up parking lot closed and no drop box for key anywhere I looked for 45 mins. Finally I called Hertz and was instructed to just drop it off at the Airport. Wasted tons of time and had a friend drive behind me and I could have just drove to the Airport and dropped off car but didn't get any guidance and the guidance I got from the staff was wrong. read more

I told them I didn't want insurance through them because I already was covered through my own car insurance company. They added it on anyways putting me out $754...Tried talking to the sales guys in the office over the phone about my concern but they didn't seem to care and refused to explain why they added it on when I didn't want it!! Had a reservation for a standard car to be picked up at 11. I arrived at 11:01 and the man behind the counter was helping another customer. Took 20 minutes for him to completely settle out with that customer before even starting with my reservation. When he finally pulled up my reservation he realized they have NO cars available. Not just my preselected car, but absolutely none. He ran to the back to make a call for someone from an offsite location to bring him a car for me, but claimed it would be at least an addition 15 minute wait.
