Hertz - Chevy Malibu - Car Rental Near Me - Woodland Hills, California

Keep in mind while reading this that I've gone to this branch several times since moving to Woodland Hills in 2022. There's a Hertz and Avis inside of the local Marriott hotel. I want to focus one one problem which has now happened twice. Avis rented a Chevy Malibu to me and while driving to Las Vegas the CHECK ENGINE OIL light came on. That makes me nervous as I'm driving my family through Death Valley. I took the time to purchase oil and ultimately swapped the car prior to the return drive across the desert. That's time and money taken from my trip. And it has happened twice, with two different vehicles. The time it took to make the transfer of vehicles made it impossible to return the car to Woodland Hills on time. So I was charged for an extra day. I'd like to see these companies put more effort into vehicle maintenance so that these things don't happen to us. read more

Today I picked up a car for the weekend. I was assisted by Robert who said he was covering and that it wasn't his normal store. I was early but he helped me with a car. Unfortunately I drive 5 miles and the car had a complete flat. I called Robert and let him know that the car had a flat, he flat out tells me "what do you want me to do about it? ". Wow, just wow, this is the kind of Customer Service you get at Avis....and I'm using that term very loosely. He says call roadside assistance to help you and hangs up. I'm livid at this point for how I've been treated. I call roadside assistance, I speak to 3 reps that tell me they need to transfer me. Each rep keeps transferring me back to their phone tree system. Absolutely zero help. I finally get a rep who says, "nobody is going to come get you, See if the car has a spare and change it". At this point I'm completely disappointed and so inconvenienced by all of this. It's sad that a customer who chose this car rental place, from all other options, gets treated like garbage. I will never rent here again and I will advise everyone that reads this to do the same. You won't get service here, you'll get treated as if they're doing you a favor. Stay Away! read more

Horrible place. Went there to get a minivan that has been prepaid already. Had to wait 15 mins while they get the van. Van arrives still wet. George hands me the keys and leaves. This is where the horror starts. Upon inspection, the van had dents, scratches all over and a cracked bumper. When I went back to the counter, he says it's all been noted and there are no other vans available. Fine, I could let that pass. I got home to load up my baggages, when I folded the rear seats, the storage well was filled with popcorn, chips and all sorts of garbage. Tgere was also puke on the passenger side flooring and the carpet was still wet. Called George again and he says there's nothing he can do. Called roadside assistance to see if they could fund a replacement in another location. They found one un Burbank but they say they can't reserve it. Fine. On my way to Burbank airport, I called them for their location and to verify the van, manager says there's none available and nobody called them to ask. Called roadside assistance to see if there's one available in ABQ airport. She asks if I could make it there in 2 hours. Burbank to Albuquerque? What do you think? She says she can inly reserve for 2 hours....hmmm first person says you can't and this one says 2 hours. Which ine is true? So no other choice, we drove for 13 hours with the stench of puke inside. I called the District Manager Janine twice since Saturday, no answer. I called the General Manager Anthony Penman, no answer. George called yesterday, but what can I expect? The managers don't give a damn about customers, why should their employees give a damn? WOODLAND HILLS HLE AND HERTZ IN MARIOTT HAVE HORRIBLE employees. VERY SHADY. I rented from hertz to be able to return the car at a different location that I got it from. This morning I called hertz to extend my reservation and to let them know that I finally figured out where I will be returning the car. Before renting the car, I was told that I can return it at any city or location in the California state for a small fee of 150 dollars. So when I called this morning to extend, 3 different representatives told me that I will be responsible for a 5000 dollar charge since I won't be returning it to the original location. After 5 phone calls, and hour wait lines to speak to a supervisor or manager, I got nowhere and I was already half way to my other destination. I pulled over the car and decided to just show up to a location since no one helped me, so this Woodland Hills location was the closest. The manager of this location Lyman literally turned my whole day around and helped me figure out the situation. He took care of the whole problem and made sure that I can return the car at the airport that I'm leaving from. Literally made my whole trip! If you're looking to rent a car, this is definitely the location to get it from. You'll be in great hands! read more

Renting cars from a local office is very different experience than renting from an airport office. Finding a car that was available took some phone calls but this location had just what we needed, when we needed it. Hooray. Convenient location plus very courteous staff. They worked the price and rental option to meet my needs and desires. The car was clean, in great shape and well equipped. Only surprise was that it was delivered with only half a tank of gas. No matter the gas option chosen, I expect rental cars to be tanked up. Returning the car was just as easy. Overall a great experience. read more

I've called three times for a car I was promised after the original car they gave me the engine light went on so I returned that car and all they said was that they had more cars coming in the the next day. They never called me. I've been calling all day today because I feel unsafe in this little piece of turd car. They cane up with a different story every time I called. This is a tough one - I wanted to originally give this a 2 star but ended up getting such decent customer service I changed it to a 3. I arrived to pick up a vehicle (searched for the closest location) and noticed it was inside a hotel. No problem, plenty of parking if needed for car rental section. Get into the hotel see a starbucks (if needed), so far all is good (great location). Get to the counter to pick up a vehicle (which was taken care of ahead of time) and see a ridiculous line with 2 girls working. It took SO LONG to get my rental (45 min ordeal) - was over it before I got to the counter. While providing my info to the girl at the counter, I was told, "oh we might not have a car ready" - we'll WTF did I pay and make a reservation for???? After mins of standing and waiting, they offered me a dirty car, since I was in a rush and could really car less - I took it. The young girl was nice enough to let me return the vehicle without filling it up (there is your extra star). In short, this place kinda sucks IF you are in a rush, if time isnt an issue and have xanax to spare along with patience - feel free. Stop being a bitch Hertz - hire extra workers. read more

Once upon a time, not too long ago there was a gentleman by the name of George who was the manager of this location as well as another location located off of DeSoto & Ventura Blvd. It was apparent that George loved what he was doing because it reflected in the level of service he provided. Many times George went out of his way to help me as well as my referrals. The successful manager that he was, he brought in a ton of business from dealerships, auto repair shops as well as people like me. Unfortunately for me AND Hertz, George left Hertz for greener and brighter pastures. Since George has left Hertz, it's as though Hertz never heard of the phrase "quality customer service". The service is now HORRIBLE and I heard that all those profitable accounts have left Hertz and are now Enterprise accounts. Hertz....do yourself a favor and BEG George to come back!!!! read more

I was warned by friends and co-workers. I didn't listen. "It won't happen to me" I thought. Spoilers: It happened to me. - Two weeks before a long road trip, I booked a Cadillac Escalade on the Hertz website. I PRE-PAID for the rental instead of paying at the counter. - A week before the trip, I called the local Hertz office to confirm the reservation. "Yes! I see you have Cadillac Escalade for XYZ dates." Ah, peace of mind. Just making sure everything is in order! NOTE: I want to say, the Hertz employees at this location were polite the entire time. They tried their best to be helpful in spite of being setup for failure by Hertz's business model. I want to thank them for helping me through this frustrating time for something that appeared to be 100% not their fault. - Day of pick-up - 8AM. I show up to pick up the car I reserved as scheduled. I walk up to the front counter and I SH*T YOU NOT they say "We don't have any Escalades here. LAX has them all." I say "Well why did the site let me book an Escalade here if you guys don't even have them?" The employee responds with "I'm so sorry, this has been an on going problem with our system". Oh...okay. - Since they don't have an Escalade, I ask if they have a car in the same group/class? Like the Lincoln Navigator? "Umm...we don't have those here either. Right now we have Tahoe". A Tahoe. A car in a completely different class than I reserved. THEY DONT CARRY PRESTIGE GROUP P6 VEHICLES AT THIS LOCATION EVEN THOUGH YOU CAN BOOK THEM ON THE WEBSITE. - While I appreciate the suggestion of giving me a vehicle of comparable size, I note that the Tahoe was $300 cheaper than the car that I booked. I ask if I could get a portion of my rental payment refunded to make-up the difference of what I had pre-paid. They said that since I pre-paid for the rental, I have to call the Hertz 1-800 customer service number to get that resolved. Great. - Meanwhile, I still don't have a car, so the local Hertz staff is still offering olive branches, though flimsy and brittle they may be. They say "We have an Mercedes GLS scheduled to come in at noon today. Will that work?" I say yes. At this point i'm running out of options and time (I'm putting off my trip for this). They say "okay, come back at 12 and we'll have the Mercedes ready for you". TL;DR - Booked an escalade on the website at my local Hertz. Local Hertz doesn't even carry them. Bait and Switch. =INTERMISSION (Call with Customer Service)= While I wait, I call Customer Service at Hertz. - My first phone call to customer service immediately ended in me being transferred to reservations because my issue was with a reservation I had made. - The reservation rep said that my issue was a customer service problem because the car I booked wasn't the car I got, so I was transferred back to customer service. - This is adding insult to injury and honestly, I'm pissed off. I get back to the customer service dept. and speak to another representative. I explained the original situation (again) and note my frustration about being bounced around. The rep apologized and said "We'll call around to see which Hertz locations have Escalades". I said that you can try that, but I already was told that only LAX had Escalades and they were sold out for the weekend. I explained that I felt that I was bait and switched. - The customer service rep then noted I was getting a Mercedes SUV at noon. I explained that, while that is correct, that is not the problem. My problem was that the car that I booked wasn't even carried at that location, and that I pre-paid for said car. I felt that i was bait and switched and wasn't offered any discount on my rental. I asked her "Whats the cost difference for the Mercedes vs. the Escalade that I booked?" "We'll keep the costs the same for you" she replies. But are they the same? What if its cheaper? I'm paying you more for a car I didn't want". I SH*T YOU NOT the rep responds with "But you're accepting the Mercedes at noon. It's not what you wanted?". I'm not gonna lie. At this point I got frustrated. I lost my cool. I didn't curse, but I was upset. I asked for her supervisor, and she put me on hold. I was on hold for 40 minutes. It was almost noon and I needed to go back to pick up my car, so I hung up. Issue went unresolved. = ACT II = -Called local Hertz. Guess What? The Mercedes wasn't returned by the renter on time, so it will be late. "Around 2pm" they say. This is now 6 hours later than I was originally scheduled to pick up my car. They offer a $100 voucher. This is moot because I won't be using Hertz ever again. = ACT III = At 1:30 or so, the car was finally ready. I pick it up and go on my way. EPILOGUE: -The car turned out to be a 10/10 drive. Would definitely purchase. - Even though Hertz bait/switched me, the local employees were always polite and tried to be helpful. - F*ck you Hertz. Only willing to give these guys two stars because the worker was nice.. We rent at car from the LAX Hertz which ended up being a complete debacle. They claimed to have no cars available in the class we PREPAID for so they stuck us with a Camaro which made us feel like sardines in a can! We were staying in Calabasas so I called the Hertz in Woodland Hills to try and swap it out. Was on hold forever and when the guy finally came back on he said he didn't have any cars available and we would need to check back tomorrow. Upon calling first thing the next morning they said they had a Volkswagen Passat available. We rushed over there! They took the keys to the Camaro and brought out the Passat.. What a mess. There were scratches, dings, dents and parts missing off it! The car had a slight smell of smoke and wasn't the cleanest either. Having already done the paperwork and beings the Hertz worker walked away we didn't have much of a choice. It was either this or nothing apparently. When we returned the car to LAX the attendant asked us what happened to the car? He pointed out all the issue. We assured him this is how we received the car. Since there were so many issues he must have believed us! We then went on our way to catch our flight! Our experiences with the LAX Hertz have been great up until this point. I left a separate review on their service. Honestly I would not recommend the Hertz Woodland Hills location. The guy who helped us was nice but that aside there is nothing good to say. This is the Hertz location in the Marriott at Warner Center. I have to give my people there 5 stars because of the excellent customer service and the great selection of great, not good, great vehicles. Recently underwent a management change and I thought that they would change their attitude and spirit, but after visiting some other locations and seeing the lack of knowledge on company policies, this place still is in the top of car rental spots. First off, let me tell you how great it is to know that your company pays for the vehicle that you drive around all day. But, because you will be driving around in a car that is not yours and probably having people in it that will judge you according to the vehicle you are driving (after all we are in LA where you are what you drive), when renting you definitely need a good set of wheels to pull the trick. These guys have got them! For the most part I have only had the Audi A4's and a couple of times they've put me on the new Toyota Prius because of fuel efficiency. However, my renting experiences (which are many) have been worry-free and great. The cost is discounted if you can get to negotiating. They will take you most of the time without reservations. Rent your next getaway or business car here, you won't be disappointed. read more

The staff and cars are horrible!!! I rented #1 car which needed an oil change within a week of having it. I had to return it and get #2 car. #2 car had NO air conditioning. The staff was more than happy to ignore my request of getting a different vehicle and made absolutely no effort in finding me a replacement car. I finally called the manager who was very nice and helped me within an hour. I finally got #3 car which was badly taken care of and smelled of strong cigarette odor. The staff at Hertz was absolutely rude and inconsiderate. They had cars but wouldn't trade me out for one. I am very displeased with the service and vehicles at Hertz! Management needs to do better training of staff and HR needs to do a better job of hiring the right people to work for Hertz! Overall experience was the worst!!!! read more

I needed to rent a car for a week and received a 4 door that had been freshly washed and had wet seats. The polite agent who rented me the car said it would soon dry out. I was pretty skeptical but had to pick up family at the airport and this was the only option they said they had because their "inventory was rerouted to another location". Long story short, my family and I rode around in a car with wet seats all day and butts were wet! Not the end of the world, but not very enjoyable. I called the location and talked to the manager, George. He was very understanding and apologized profusely. He wanted to make it right so I went back to the location and he gave me a great car, a sport Camry, with low miles. He kept the same rate and even took $30 off the rental. I really appreciate him acknowledging that there was a problem and then taking action to make it right. They gave me a car with a nail in it and then they tried to charge me for it since I didn't take their hazard coverage. Then they replaced it with another car with tire pressure light on....they should do a better job in maintaining their cars. Then they told me they were out of cars and so I had to take the car with the warning light on. They reassured me it was nothing. I said no and they told they would check another location for cars and then they miraculously had a another car that they just got in except i was the only person there and no one else came in. They told me it was a nissan sentra. I said I'll take it. After driving it to a mall, i noticed that the car was not a sentra. It was a Versa. I went from a ford explorer to a jetta to a sentra to a versa. Fail. read more

You guys graciously picked me up and then provided a spanking new Honda with 9 miles on it at a ridiculously reasonable rate since we needed it for nearly two months. Terrible experiences here time and time again . Thank you Honda Service for continuing to contract with his lame outfit that has no clue how to provide close to quality customer service. Not even a smile. Cranky old fool working the counter who does not know how to talk to anyone. The computer may as well be in a foreign language. The counter lady next to him was just as sweet as a bottle of red wine vinegar to me. I presented a need for a larger car and she flat out denies me with a typical canned response and tells me I can't have it. Then, w/out asking she calls a supervisor to ask if she can rent it to me...and she repeats the supervisor words "if he is willing to pay more". It's already a warranty rental! LiI say no thank you, give me the Malibu you said I can have... But wait, then pull a switch-ER-oo and give me a Kia?! Don't tell me? As if it is the same? I don't really care. I don't need to go into why I need the bigger car. How I can make due with this piece... My motivation is, this is not the first poor experience. My understanding, as a long time customer of Honda Service, they lost the contract for awhile and it was heaven renting from Enterprise. I was so happy. Apparently, the new owner must have cut rates, won contract back with Honda, and then apparently hired the former cranky old driver (or promoted him) to be the cranky old desk clerk... Who then parks my rental in the taxi only stall and leaves me to deal with the irate Marriott staff for parking in a taxi stall. I need this not. But they took my time. So, they get more of my time... There you go, my advise, stay away. read more

Im a AAA member who recently experienced a real bad accident. My car was a total loss. I'm currently renting vehicles to test out, I'm not sure exactly which car I will end up purchasing. But what I do know is that Alen at hertz gave me the best customer service. Alen went above and beyond to accommodate me. This has been one of the worst rental car experiences ever! The women behind the desk were unprofessional, and did not know what they were doing. I stood in line for 15 minutes with one couple ahead of me, and yet they kept taking people ahead of me who were walking in from the street. 15 minutes after that, they FINALLY ready to assist me. Be careful if you rent a car here. They let me reserve the car but when I went to pick it up (dropped off with no way to go anywhere else), they told me they didn't have any cars available. They said the on line system lets you reserve even though she said, "I have other reservations before you and just enough cars for them". Seems like they need to work on their system. The only reason I am giving this place 4 stars is because of Tiffany. She was absolutely amazing and super helpful. Now for the 800 number I called they were awful. I booked my car online and prepaid. My reservation was for the wrong day, I called the number to extended my reservation an extra day. The lady on the phone told me I can't rent a car because I'm using a debit card (even though I already PAID). I spent almost an hour on the phone with her asking for my money back, which she said would take 7 business days and I would have a cancellation fee. This obviously made me very angry. Why the hell would you allow a person to PREPAY WITH A DEBIT CARD AND REFUSE TO LET THEM RENT A CAR AND THEN CHARGE A CANCELLATION FEE?? That is so completely unprofessional and a scam. I asked her for a supervisor, which she refused to give me. FINALLY, she transfers my call to a different person, who then tells me everything the lady before her told me was a lie. I wish I would have remembered her name because that woman deserves to lose her job. Tiffany was the only reason I had a good experience. She saved my day and I appreciate her. read more

If you are a fan of Seinfeld, you will immediately understand my frustration with Hertz located at the Marriott in Woodland Hills. The reasons are THREE: ONE: I had a reservation and even called the day of my reservation to confirm they have a midsize SUV; confirmed! When I arrived, they don't have the car (no apology no excuses). Taking the reservation is the easy part but keeping the reservations, the most important part, they could not do! TWO: So now I'm forced to wait for another SUV from a local Hertz. They were reluctant to rent that car and I was not sure why. I was there for about 45 minutes and the car arrived. Luckily, It was for my 80 year old Dad who has lost is sense of smell because I will bet that someone vomited in that car and it was dirty inside and out. I know the people at Hertz knew it too but we were now running late and there were no other options. I felt sorry for my Dad but he honestly did not notice a thing. THREE: When I returned the car, I was told that I agreed to be charged prepaid gas charge of $45. I never agreed to buy prepaid gas and even had a receipt for the gas I had just purchased to fill up the car. I asked the lady to remove the charge. She answered that she 'can not', remove the charge, the manager left for the day (3 PM) and the regional manager is on vacation. Naturally, I didn't believe any of it. I tried calling the 800 number which got me nowhere too...what a surprise? Lesson of the day, don't ever rent from Hertz at the Marriott in Woodland Hills. The agents had no idea when they would get any cars so I'm just standing there like Dumb Dirk Doodlehead trying to figure out what to do.
