Codwich, fish and chips, and mac and cheese special.
    Rachel M.

We came here on a whim on a weekday evening. It's a relatively small place but we were seated right away. It wasn't empty by any means but there were still a number of open tables. The food was above average but nothing mind-blowing. I had a codwich, my partner had fish and chips, and we shared a Mac and cheese special and Marion berry pie. My husband wanted Manny's since it was our last night in Seattle before moving away but unfortunately they were out. The service was pretty slow despite it not being super busy. It took a long time in particular to get our dessert and our check. I was seated facing the street but my partner said that the staff weren't busy tending to tables, just chatting with each other or with people at the bar. We'd probably come back again, but it wouldn't be at the top of our list.

A great brunch spot nested in the central district! Are you in the mood for a standard breakfast? A fancy one? Or maybe you just want to try something new? Look no further than Heyday, a restaurant in the Central District. This one one of my go-to brunch spots in Seattle. Their food is amazing, the staff is A1, and you'll always be satisfied--it doesn't matter if you're going for a brunch drink, a filling meal, or just to chat with friends. As I mentioned, the food is phenomenal. If you're open to trying something new, I highly recommend the pork belly barley bowl, but you can never go wrong with the Benedict, or breakfast burrito! I would also recommend sitting at the bar if you can. The staff behind the counter are great people to talk to!

Loved the experience bringing my kids here. Super kid friendly and quality food. We arrived around 6pm on a Saturday, no reservation. We were told about a 10 min wait and their timing tracked. There were lots of seats at the bar and every table in the dining room had kids, which is why we had to wait. Menu and drinks were super straightforward. We both got burgers. I loved the bacon bleu burger, the bacon jam was very flavorful. My husband got the Saigon burger. If you're looking for a non traditional burger, this is it! The space is on the smaller side but it feels very open and big, they do a good job with spacing between tables, they also seem very accommodating to larger groups. Good family friendly neighborhood vibe, looking forward to bringing my family back.

Came for Brunch! Little bit of a wait - they are busy! And make sure you have a proof of vax! Got a short stack of Johny Cakes ($7) and added two poached eggs (+$3.5). Eggs were perfectly cooked and the Johny cakes were like eating two very fluffy rounds of cornbread - cheese curds in the middle were a nice touch! Friends got the BEC ($14) and the Heyday Breakfast ($10.5) which looked amazing!! Coffee comes from QED from down the street and is great! Definitely need to come again and try more things. Staff was very nice and attentive :)

A few weeks ago I came here for the second time in about a year. The first time I went I ordered the fish and chips and I was disappointed. That was my bad since I already knew they were known for their burgers. For some reason I can't resist ordering fish and chips no matter where I go. Anyway, this time I ordered the bison burger and it was very delicious along with the crispy tots. We ordered the brussels sprouts again and they were also delicious. Great place to hang out. I love these neighborhood type joints that have a lax atmosphere.

After our runs, we decided to treat ourselves with some brunch. It was a little busy when we got there but by the time we finished, there was a wait, so we got lucky. We ordered: Pork belly barley bowl: love the flavor and texture of Everything besides the pork belly. It should have been cooked longer cause it was just mushy and soft Lamb baked eggs: the eggs was overdone and the lamb was too fine that I couldn't tell. Bread was good though. Shortstack of Johnnycakes: first time having it and it was like a savory piece of bread. Goes pretty well with the syrup. Special of the day: lamb sausage with babaghanoush, olive tapanande, pita bread and golden beet slaw. This was soooooo good. I love everything except for the lamb sausage, a little too soft for my taste. But everything else was super good. Service was a little off, feels a little rush from one of the waiter. He took my plates away when I wasn't finished with eating but didn't take anyone else's. He also tried to take a plate of food away but we weren't even finish eating.. Overall, I want to come back to try their burgers one of these days :)

We came in on a Sunday with the family for brunch. There was a short wait for a table but everything worked out very nice. Area: Located in a neighborhood area. Seemed to be very popular on the weekend of breakfast/brunch. Street parking nearby in a very walkable neighborhood. Streets felt safe and clean. Environment: Very nice interior dining area with a full bar and selection of beers & cocktails. Clean and tastefully decorated. Restaurant was brightly lit with a lot of natural light. Customer base was a good mix of families and adults with no children. If there is a wait and if you have no children, sitting at the bar is a nice option. Food: We ordered 4 different dishes to share. Everything was fresh & tasty. Our server made several recommendations which we tried and were very happy with our choices. Service: From start to finish the whole staff was very nice. Service was prompt and efficient which made waiting for a table go relatively quickly, since they are able to turnover the tables after guests leave fast. Overall, great experience. We plan to be back. Perhaps to try dinner next time.

smoky lamb baked eggs. Unfortunately looks much better than it tasted...

3.5 stars. Was super excited about this place after seeing lots of good reviews recently. I don't venture south too often but it was a good in between spot for a girls' brunch. We went a few weeks back on a Sunday around 12:30 and there was about a 20 minute wait for a table -- the place was busy! I don't believe they take reservations (at least they don't for 4 people). I wish I had more positives to say about this place b/c it has potential! Let's start w/ the positives: Pros: neighborhood parking, unique dishes on the menu like johnny cakes, lamb baked eggs, etc. (a nice deviation from the normal sausage and eggs, eggs bene, etc.), casual neighborhoody vibes. The Johnny Cakes were a highlight and I highly recommend them! They are pancakes filled w/ beecher's cheese and scallions (and then served w/ maple syrup). So, savory AND sweet - the perfect combo! We got a short stack to share :) I had the grapefruit and mint mojito and it was pretty small and average tasting ($8). I expected more of a mint flavor but the mint was just a garnish and the drink just tasted like grapefruit juice for the most part. Kind of disappointing.. I would not order this again. I had the smoky lamb baked eggs after the server recommended it as a top dish. At $13.50, this dish was pretty small. It was also not what I thought it would be -- the server described it as like a quiche -- but it was not fluffy at all nor runny (like baked eggs usually are). The egg yolk was light light yellow, like when you completely overcook an egg. ugh. The bits of lamb were fairly small too. It was also strange that the dish is served with grilled bread. Usually you use the bread to dip into the eggs or to put the somewhat runny/liquidy eggs on top of the bread. In this case, the eggs/lamb were dry/crumbly that it seemed weird to eat it with bread. It wasn't terrible but definitely small and not what I expected. :( Maybe this dish is usually better and I just got a not so good batch? I didn't get to ask my friends what they thought of their dishes, but I'd come back just for the johnny cakes and maybe would try a different entree as well... this place has potential and others seem to love it so I'd give them another chance...

This neighborhood burger joint features the best selections of burgers and seasonal salads! I was thrilled to see not only one but two vegetarian burger options on the menu! And the special of the night was crispy tofu salad! We ordered the bacon bleu, BYO and beety bean burgers. They were all fantastic! My bean burger was especially delicious! Loved all the toppings! The kale quinoa salad was very satisfying too. Gotta order tater tots with your burger! Highly recommend this friendly eatery for the tasty burgers and great beer selection!

Aside from the awesome food - which I'll get to in a second - and the live music, I was most impressed by the bartender. He was super charismatic, super friendly and very funny. When I popped in with a group of 6 or so friends, he swiftly tended to us, made sure to introduce himself and took everyone's drink order. When it came time to get food I actually decided to opt out. It was nearly midnight and I had already eaten dinner hours earlier. But my friend next to me got a basket of fries and that's when it got hard to ignore the menu... The fries were AWESOME! In fact, they were so tempting that not only did I sneak a few, I actually asked to see the whole menu. Comprised mostly of about a dozen varieties of slider, I was super happy to see the variety. Suddenly my stomach growled and though I didn't want two sliders, I knew I could share with a friend. The only issue then was deciding which to get. I recall a buffalo chicken slider but only got as far as the fried bologna. HELL. YES!!! I ordered one and my buddy ordered another. (They come two to a plate.) My little slider was DELICIOUS! In fact, it was so good that I could totally envision making a trip all the way back to this bar just to have them again. So yeah... I'm a fan. The food is great, the bartender was totally rad, the live music playing in the theater was piped into the bar and the selection of beer and booze was just enough to satisfy. What a great little addition to the hood!

I definitely heard the times the crowd join in during the good parts---most encouraging, hehe. All said and done.... wow (and phew!). Afterwards, the local lady came up to me and said something like, "Mmm Mm...that was ^fine^!..." I think I did come with my confidence, after all. 7 minutes... of rapping!? I think I just experienced a miracle... amazing. I think I want more karaoke (and drinking not even required! =P).

The best way to describe the food at this place is it's off the beaten path (alley?)…read moreThe meats here are not something you can find everywhere else. From the most prized (foie gras) to the more normal (frog legs) to the odd (beef liver). And there was what I had - the rabbit kidneys on toast. I love the inventiveness of this place. It's so easy to just serve the same cuts of meats everyone else does - the prized, fatty parts of each animal and call it a day. But when there's a place that decides to dive deep (literally) into an animal and produce its organs and put that on a plate for you, it's just very cool. When you see a rabbit kidneys on toast dish on the menu - you can't not order it. The dish was pretty much exactly what you would expect - a bunch of rabbit kidneys on a slice of toast, over a cream sherry sauce. I had no idea what to expect in terms of kidneys, but these actually tasted quite normal. The best way to describe them is they had the texture and shape of larger beans, but had a bit of a meaty taste to them. Nothing over the top in terms of flavor or anything - just solid. They seemed to have been grilled. There were also a good amount on the piece of toast. The piece of sourdough bread it came on was quite good. The edges were crispy, and certain parts were perfectly lightly charred without being too burnt. The best part was the inside - which was super soft. What really tied this all together though, was the cream sherry sauce. This was outstanding. Certain parts were above the bread but a lot of it was below, and just tasting it I was blown away by its richness. It was on the sweeter side, but complemented everything so well. The way it soaks the inside of the bread is perfection - eating that was my favorite part. For dessert I got the foie gras ice cream. This was also really damn good. When two very fatty things come together, you'd expect there to be a full blast of flavor, but this was actually milder than I expected. It's still slightly salty, and very rich, but the added wine helps make it a more normal dish. I could still absolutely have a full scoop of this though. The one thing to know here is the portions are VERY small. The rabbit kidneys on toast dish is literally a single slice of bread with about 10 or so kidneys on top. The foie gras ice cream is truly miniscule - it's the smallest ice cream you've ever seen. The server did recommend 2-3 small plates per person, but I didn't particularly feel like paying a ton this night. If you were to come with someone (don't recommend groups here - the seating is very small), I'd say you could share a bunch of plates and feel pretty happy though. I wanted to give a shoutout that this place has the price inclusive of tipping. It's just so rare to see that, and absolutely wonderful when it occurs. I ended up paying around 38 for my two dishes. Overall, while not quite truly special, this place serves inventive, delicious mini-dishes that are certainly worth a try. 9/10

If you're someone who cooks, and has said recently that everywhere you eat it costs a ton and is just okay -- like, you can make better at home? Come here. Because with few exceptions, I don't think you can. I've been here three times now and two out of three times everything was perfect. Absolutely. Perfect. I've recommended it to others and heard similar back from them. I think it's one of the more exciting restaurants in Seattle, and while the observation about cramped quarters is spot-on, I would imagine they'll likely evolve beyond that venue at some point, and that will be a pity, because having them close by in Columbia City makes me very happy. So book the patio if you want shoulder or elbow room, and enjoy a meal al fresco. And yes, it's a more expensive place, portions are small. It's a fine dining approach, and I think that's fairly clear up front. If you want a big pile of slop somewhere, there are a ton of options to fill up more cheaply. But if you want demi-glace and pan sauces that are perfect -- PERFECT! And meats you might normally not find compelling, like rabbit livers and kidney and, well, offal -- suddenly made succulent and delectable, try this. The only thing I felt was sort of not worth the bucks was the rabbit skull. Just not much in it and getting to it was a semi-feral process. Everything else, including the delicious salads, has be exquisite. Love this place.

Diet Coke from a can with lime? They got you. Signature cocktail? They have it. Uniquely designed menu inspired from vinyl records?? Asa has that too. The only thing is food. Asa is not restaurant. But it does have a very tasty handmade charcuterie platter that definitely hits the spot. Bring friends, or come to contemplate your thoughts at the bar with a staff that actually cares about your well being. You're probably already a regular after reading this review, and not even know it!! Which means... you have to stop by. Enjoy the drinks and the atmosphere, at Asa!!!!! See you there!!
