Was craving lamb skewers and Chinese food late at night and not many places were open so we tried this spot. It's nice that they open late. The food was pretty good, a little salty though. The noodles were pretty ok, the string beans were good. Only giving 3 stars because they used all disposables. The service wasn't BAD but it wasn't good or friendly. They never asked if everything was ok and they took my beans before I even finished them so that was really disappointing. They could've asked if I was done with them first. Second time here and defintely last time. Ordered the spicy frog dry pot and waited for almost an hour. When we arrived we were the only table occupied, and we didn't get any food on the table until all other tables were occupied and served. We were told the protein needed to be deep fried so it took extra time, but honestly I've never had to wait an hour for a dry pot anywhere else. And then when the pot was finally ready, we found out the vege in there had gone soul, so the dish had to be returned. We didn't want to wait for another hour for a refire so we ordered some noodle soup instead. The beef noodle soup that I ordered came up with four tiny pieces of beef in there which didn't taste fresh, and after two bites I found a hair in the soup. So again I returned the dish and didn't want to order anything else. My wife ordered the tomato broth noodle soup which tasted like it was made from ketchup. Honestly, don't waste your time coming to this place. If you are from local, go to Noodology for noodle soup, go to LaoZao for hotpot, go to Happy Dining for dry pot or Chinese style grilled fish. Los Angeles has no shortage of late night dining options. If you are looking for one that also happens to be Taiwanese, this is a good place to go to. Hi House has a lot of different options for food. But the best is probably their Taiwanese Fried Chicken and their Spicy Beef Noodle Soup. The Taiwanese Fried Chicken is a large platter of bite sized chicken pieces that have been fried to a wonderfully light but crispy texture due to the use of sweet potato starch and tapioca flour. The crispy texture is a fantastic contrast to the juicy tender interior. The crispy outside also makes for the perfect surface to take on the five spice seasoning that makes the chicken both extremely savory but also slightly spicy at the same time. The other high quality must get product here is the spicy beef noodle soup. Cooked and braised in the traditional Taiwanese style, the beef is very tender while really soaking up all of the braising flavors. The deep and spicy broth perfectly complements the noodles that are used as well as the pickled vegetables. While we also got some xiao long bao, unfortunately, it wasn't the greatest. The baos held very little soup and just felt like they could have been better. Overall, good place. Stick with the beef noodle soup and Taiwanese Fried Chicken and you won't go wrong :) read more

This place is located in Sand Canyon Plaza. My friend wanted to try this place out because of the offerings on the window, so we just ordered off those. It is slow food, so one has to leave a tip. There weren't a lot of people at the time and there were some parking spaces available, unlike during normal lunch hours. Compared to other places that serve non-American Chinese food like noodles (such as 101 Noodle Express), it tasted *ordinary*, so it's good enough if going to Diamond Jamboree is too much time and walking is an option to get here. So 4 is pretty comparable to somewhere with specialization. It tasted good otherwise and was more mentally pleasing than buying similar things from a food court or cooking instant noodles. They were nice and seemed to have a hot pot option, but as we had not planned for that in advance we didn't pick that. The plaza has two PokéStops: one at the Carl's Jr. and one at the Starbucks. Came here late night around 1am. Pretty much the only chinese/asian place open this late. Normally late night eateries have sub par food. But this place exceeds my expectations. Very authentic Chinese lamb skewers "chuan-chuan" 串串. We ordered scallops, deep fried tofu, beef noodle soup, lamb skewers (min 10 skewers) and chicken wings. All are very tasty and arrived quickly. Prices are very reasonable too. So glad this place is now available as late night food option for us. Normally we just go to MCD at this hour. Oh, one last thing, they also have Karaoke! We ate while others sing at their table. Fun. Highly recommended. We'll be back many times, as we're late night owls and there are too few places like this in OC/Irvine! read more

I remember when this place was solely a hot pot place a few years back and it was packed. We don't usually stop in this shopping center, but last week we did and saw the amazingly tantalizing signs posted. I promised my daughter that we would there on Friday after school. Place had a good crowd and you can choose hotpot or any beef noodle soup. We sat down and we were promptly ignored by the older server lady. She served the party behind us who sat down after us. I know some places do a reverse discrimination, maybe we appear not Asian enough. Girls behind us are exactly like us American Asian so I didn't get why service was bad. I flagged her down and told her what we wanted. She didn't write anything down. No water served or anything. I got the other guy waiter and he got us water and corrected our order. Food came out relatively fast. Beef noodle soup has flavor and was decent. The bbq sticks - beef and squid - were overly spicy. Xiao long bao was ok. The older lady server avoided us the whole time we were there which was fine since we got the guy server. Some other non-Asian patrons also came in and she ignored them too. Just be forewarned. We ordered Hi House the first time by chance since we are in a hurry to pass by, but found out it's far beyond my expectation, so we keep order its BBQ till now for about 10 times. I should say the skewers are not bad, especially lamb skewers and 牛板筋, we ordered them every time. The other one is Grilled Pork Leg, but this one depends, sometimes it's so delicious - rotten inside and crisp outside, but sometimes it's not that rotten inside and has hair on the skin. Their garlic sauce is authentic, for the Oyster BBQ, but sometimes their oyster has sands. If they make sure the Oyster clean, this one is a must-try! read more

The tomato beef noodle soup was delicious! I love how the beef didn't have any tendons or fat, so if you like lean beef, you'll love this beef noodle soup. I got mine medium spicy and it had a nice kick to it. Soup flavor was great but some may feel it is a tad too salty, not me though. Scallion pancakes are good but you don't get many pieces. Very thin slices and oily. The XLB wasnt that good if you ask me. None of ours had any juice in it. Wanted to give the new place a shot--and loved it! The tomato beef noodle soup is so delicious... just don't wait for the soup to cool down or you might have a heart attack by looking at the layer of oil that congeals. I must say though, it was my favorite dish. The tofu with thousand year old egg was also great, but I think I like A&J's a bit better because it's softer. Aside from being slightly firmer and less tasty than I expected, I still liked it overall. The bonito and fresh green onion is aesthetic and complements the tofu well! I was kind of sad they didn't have the spicy wontons in stock when I went, though. It was in the middle of the week during lunch, so I was disappointed they wouldn't have such a popular item. The potstickers weren't as crispy as I would've hoped. But still, they had delicious flavor. XLB were also yummy. Not anything out of the ordinary, but still very very good. I ordered the asparagus with garlic sauce and not only was it to die for, it had TONS of garlic which made this garlic lover very happy. I also ordered the beef chow mein and beef fried rice which were arguably some of the best of both I have ever had! I love Chinese food but this is a next level experience. Simply superb! They have small sesame balls and lamb skewers which are really good, and their spring rolls is amazing. This restaurant just opened, where Hot Pot Legend used to be. They have two options for ordering, a hot pot menu (which we didn't try) and a noodle, rice, and snacks menu which we did. The popcorn chicken was tender inside, crisp outside, and had nice flavor. The cold beef noodle was a nice choice for a hot day, with cooked-just-right noodles, cucumbers, bean sprouts, and cold sliced beef. The onion pancake was nice and light and crispy, maybe a little oily but not too bad. Unfortunately what we really wanted to try, the xiao long bao, was sold out, as was the potstickers. Broth is great, good chew to the noodles, and the meat is nice and tender (and a good portion too). Didn't get the tomato version as that's usually not my thing. Service was fine, still working things out I think. They brought out free bowls of clear broth and noodles for the kids without being asked (considered part of the free noodle and soup refill). However we had empty water cups in a very empty restaurant for some time. I'd say the dumplings and xiao long bao are a little off, too much aromatics and weird spice mix.
