We were craving skewers and went searching when our usual spot turned out to be closed, that's how we found this place on Yelp. What a great find! The service was excellent and the food was amazing. One detail I really loved is that when you order soju, they serve it in a small vase placed in an ice bucket to keep it perfectly chilled. Such a nice touch you don't usually see! Every dish we tried was delicious, and the whole experience felt thoughtful and well put together. Definitely a spot I'd come back to for great skewers and good vibes with family.

Located in the same strip mall as Left Coast Brewing near the corner of Irvine Center Drive and Sand Canyon Avenue, Hi House specializes in hot pot, barbecue, and Chinese cuisine. Their menu offers so much variety that it's impossible to sample everything in just one visit, so you'll have to come back again for another visit! Mango Tea was my drink of choice and I was happy about the taste and sweetness but also the serving size. Popcorn Chicken and Spicy Szechwan Wonton were great starters and they were followed by Lamb and Beef Skewers. Surprisingly the lamb was more tender than the beef! We also shared the hot pot and it hit the spot like it usually does. As mentioned before, their menu is expansive so we'll def be back to try something new and different!

Hi House has a mix of hotpot, skewer, dry pot, and noodle/rice dishes. We ordered beef skewers (6/serving). I have a low spice tolerance so beware if you can't handle your spice ! The fried tiger prawns had a nice crunch and tasted like a dim sum dish. The mixed dry pot and noodles were delicious. The serving size is big here so left a lot for the next few meals ! It was busy but the waiter was very attentive during our visit. Would definitely recommend

Super delicious and authentic flavor. Love the spicy kick the food has. The spicy cucumber is both spicy and refreshing and garlicky. The tomato beef noodle stew was also very well made if you like a tomato based broth. The green beans are always a great addition. The eggplant is garlicky and delicious -- wouldn't not get unless you like garlic! Order your food on an iPad and collect rewards too! Nice servers and easy to park out front.

Hi House definitely needs to work on the ambience of the restaurant. It's super lacking and it is hard to enjoy dining there. The service is also a hit and miss. I do enjoy the food. The skewers are decent. The lamb skewers were tender. The string beans were a little salty, but still good. The cucumber salad was my favorite. It was so refreshing and crunchy. The fried rice was yummy. It's also one of the few places that opens late. As Always, NOM 4 LIFE!

Everyone seems to be harping over the service at this venue, but individuals need to take this restaurant into proper context. CONTEXT: This is an authentic Chinese restaurant with AUTHENTIC Chinese food, which is highly liked by the local Chinese community. Accordingly, with the majority of the customers being native Chinese, the service is conditioned to serve this particular demographic. This means you'll get the same degree of attention & service as you would in a popular hole in the wall restaurant somewhere in China. By the same token, again, the food is delicious and AUTHENTIC ! My favorite are the BBQ sticks. CONCLUSION: If you're one of those people that hold faux SoCal lip service as an important element in one's dining experience, don't come here, you'll be disappointed. But if you want REAL Chinese food, and are willing to acclimate yourself to an actual Chinese atmosphere, this place is for you!

We were the only party on a Monday night so service was fast and attentive. The beef soup was yummy and flavorful. The teriyaki chicken skewer was my favorite. The beef was very salty and hard to pull off. The cartilage was okay. Their mild was already spicy.

This is an authentic Chinese restaurant with great food. Delicious and fresh, made to order. Service is incredibly slow, even when ordering online. It's pretty small but clean and well maintained. Some of the staff is super friendly and personable, but others are about business with no pleasantries. Overall this is a great place and seems to be very popular!

Not sure why this place is under 4 stars. The food was amazing and the service was wonderful. The ambiance is laid back and not too busy on a Saturday night. We had the beef and chicken teriyaki skewers. The chicken teriyaki was really good and crispy. The kung pao chicken noodles was a first for me but was really good. Popcorn chicken my son loved. We will becoming back. Worth a try.

    (IG @hangrytrails.us) Mixed Dried Pot
    Nadya A.

We came in on a Saturday and the place was empty; we ordered the mixed dry pot, but it wasn't listed on their iPad menu what was in it. Turns out it's a mix of tripe and aorta only with veggies. A little bit disappointed that "a mix" turns out to be just a mix of 2 things, but no complaints about the taste, the dry pot sauce is delicious and not too spicy. The size is huge for 2 people, so we have some leftover perfect for 1 more serving. We also got some skewers: lamb and chicken gizzards. The spices were a bit bland as they put very little initially, so we asked for more spice to be added and they kindly added more and reheated it for us. Overall, I quite like it and the price point is good too for the portion you get. I just wish they had more options for the dry pot toppings, maybe some with lamb or beef, cause I love the seasoning they use, but not a big fan of the limited toppings option. Hi House Shabu Shabu is an authentic Chinese-style hot pot and BBQ spot that really impressed me. The flavors are very traditional, just like what you'd find in China, not watered down. The ingredients are extremely fresh, especially the meats and hot pot items. You can tell they care a lot about quality. The BBQ skewers are flavorful and perfectly seasoned, and the hot pot options are great for sharing with friends or family. If you're looking for real Chinese BBQ and hot pot, this is definitely a place worth trying. Highly recommend giving it a visit!

I've been trying to get here for a while and finally had the chance, so I made a reservation directly through the restaurant's Yelp page and even received a confirmation. We showed up excited... only to find out they're closed on Mondays. You can imagine the disappointment on my family's faces--and yeah, I was pretty embarrassed, thinking I had messed something up. But I didn't. If a restaurant is closed on certain days, their reservation system shouldn't allow bookings or send confirmations for those days. We never even made it inside, so I can't comment on the food--but this was a frustrating first impression and something they really need to fix.

Oh the timing. Just when I finally get this written out to post, it turns out that Frank's BBQ &…read moreNoodles has come and gone. Not that I can say I'm all that surprised in hindsight, but it's still kind of a shame. Mostly because I just wish the food had been better, but also because, despite how impressive the OC food scene is, I hadn't come across any BBQ joints/Cantonese restaurants that SF has so many of until randomly stumbling across this place! Then again, maybe I've just been too distracted by the many Taiwanese options that the Bay Area is so criminally short on... Compared to some of the Chinese BBQ joints that I frequent in the Bay Area, this place felt so much newer and a whole lot cleaner/nicer. That said, while the menu appeared to be a whole lot narrower, they still had a decent selection of offerings to choose from. Along with their nearly twenty different sides/snack dishes, which include items like pig ears with chili sauce, cucumber salad, chicken wings, wontons in chili oil, and tofu skin salad, they also had BBQ meats, like Roasted Duck, Soy Sauce Chicken, and Char Siu, a mix of rice and noodle dishes, and combination plates of their BBQ meats over rice or noodles. Sadly, though, no crispy skin roast pork, which was a huge bummer. -- SWEET FRIED CORN Admittedly, this initially didn't catch my eye, but I'm glad we ended up trying it. Every piece was crispy and I liked how sweet and flavorful the corn was. Plus, it was how this wasn't all that oily, though, I wouldn't have minded a bit more batter for some added crunch. -- WONTONS IN CHILI OIL Not too shabby. Although the skins felt a little overcooked, each piece was fairly plump and I thought the filling was pretty tasty. It was also unexpected to see a bit of broth with the chili oil, but it had a nice flavor to it and just the right amount of spice. -- TWO BBQ ITEM RICE PLATE with Char Siu and Roasted Duck I was the most excited for this, but it left me feeling conflicted. On the plus side, the bowl had a fair amount of both meats and the duck was really good - really juicy and the skin was golden brown. On the other hand, the char siu was super fatty and the rice was mushy. -- DICED GROUND PORK ON RICE...$13.99 More solid than spectacular, but still satisfying enough. Like with the BBQ plate, the meat to rice ratio favored the former and I thought the egg and the veggies complemented this well. At the same time, I wish this had more sauce to it, as the pork look a little dry/pale. In addition to how convenient it was to come here (there was a steady crowd, but it never got packed inside), I appreciated how fast our food came out. Also, I'm not sure if we just got lucky, but it wasn't nearly as hard to find a space in the complex's parking lot as it seemed it would be. Between all of that, the food being decent, and the relatively friendly service, Frank's BBQ & Noodles wasn't bad for some Chinese BBQ. However, it definitely could've been better, especially if Roast Pork had been one of their offerings!

The service was okay overall, but some staff members definitely had attitudes, which made the experience a bit annoying. *** SCAM ALERT *** I…read moredon't use the word "SCAM" lightly, but that's what this was. My adult son called in a $281.62 order off the menu for Mother's Day. They would not accept the order or payment over the phone because the order was "too big." They asked that someone go there and pay up front for the entire order. Since it was the evening before Mother's Day, I drove to them and paid for the order. Yes, I was also presented with a minumum 20% TIP screen, which I declined. When I got there at pickup time (4:00pm) on Mother's Day, the price changed to $325.51. I was told that, for some reason, they had cut about 50% larger portions than the menu specified (see the line items, which should have been 1 lb. each), so they charged me for the difference ($325.51 - $281.62) which was $43.89 (about 50% more for the 2 items they cut heavier). No, there was no mention when I placed the order that the total cost might change due to extra meat. Neither is it shown on their web site or printed menus. When I protested, there was no option. If I don't pay the $43.89 difference, I don't get the Mother's Day food. After about 20 minutes of bickering at the counter with two different clerks (note the time stamp differences on the credit card slips), I was given my original order, with a net price reduction of ($281.62 - $254.93) $26.69. My persistence had paid off. On a positive note, the cook did, twice, walk up to me and quietly apologize for what was going on. I know many folks would have folded in this situation, but that's not my nature. I don't stand for dishonesty. Yes, it was embarrassing, other clients in line were not happy (I let them skip ahead of me so as not to inconvenience them). None of them had price increases. I don't know if the clerks wanted a tip because the management doesn't pay them much, or it this goes deeper and is standard operating procedure that assumes most clients will simply approve of the overage and pay up. In any case, from this client's point of view, this is a SCAM! When it was all over, I took my 11 and 12 year old grandsons (who had been sitting patiently waiting for grandpa to pay) and my food package to the car, drove home and proudly presented the meat to my family. After all, I am a hunter-gatherer; and the food was great!
