Kyodong Noodles inside this HMART food court is still my go-to when it comes to Jjamppong ($16.99)! Portions are still great and the flavors are on point! This is the best place to come for a no frill big bowl of delicious Jjamppong! It's not Kyodong's fault since it's not managed by them, but the tables here are often very sticky and dirty. They need more staff to come around and clean the tables.
Very good jjampong, especially for a food court. It's better than the jjajangmyun here IMO. The tangsuyuk is just ok. A little pricey for being in a food court but the price is on par with other takeout places in Irvine I guess. I'll come back if I'm not in the mood to go to garden grove for Korean Chinese food.
Gave this place another shot today. Busy, because Koreans have a soft spot for Korean-Chinese food. This cuisine is about nostalgia. The tangsuyuk did not have enough of its signature sauce. The black noodles were bland. I think it's due to their choice of noodles. The same grumpy and rude staff person is there. However, he's balanced out with a couple of friendlier staff so it's a better experience. He does come up in a lot of these reviews. It would be helpful for the owner to read these...
Went to Kyodong Noodle and ordered the Jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) combo and the Jjajangmyeon (black bean noodle) combo. Both combos come with Tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), which makes it a really satisfying and well-rounded meal. This is always a spot we keep coming back to, especially for their jjamppong, jjajangmyeon, and tangsuyuk. It consistently hits the spot and you pretty much know exactly what you're getting every time, which I really appreciate. The Jjamppong is flavorful with a nice spicy kick and loaded with seafood. The Jjajangmyeon is rich, savory, and super comforting. The Tangsuyuk adds a great crispy texture and sweetness that balances everything out. Food usually comes out pretty quickly, which is great when you're extra hungry. Overall, it's definitely a staple spot in our rotation whenever we're craving Korean-Chinese comfort food.
Probably one of the most popular places in the hmart westpark food court. The portions are huge and shareable, the service is fast, and the food is flavored well. We got the black bean noodle with tangsuyuk combo. The bowl does seem smaller than before, but its okay as in general its still shareable. The noodle soup ones however are huge and does have that seafood fragrance. Black bean noodle- good noodles with nice chew, flavor is good with potatoes onion and pork chopped in nice square flavors. Not too salty or black bean fermented tasting, not too oily, overall well made. Pickles- soo good to go with the noodles. Its saltier than you expect (as the yellow ones from the package are sweet) but the crunch helps break up the chewy mass of the noodles and its good to ask for extra. Tangsuyuk - got the sauce on the side. Suuper thick sauce. Sweet and sour, best if you like orange chicken. The breading is not too oily, airy and with a nice chew crunch (not hard) Overall, I feel like the quality has stayed consistent and the flavor even improved so I'd recommend here if you have this craving. I would love some fresh/pickled veg like pickled onions or cucumber, but i dont think thats authentic lol.

Ambiance wise, it's a food court so quick in and out for this one. The food though was tbh, just okay. I felt that the sauce of the jajangmyeon was a little watered down. It seemed that it lacked that oomph that other places have. Maybe it's because they were overwhelmed with all the orders. It's also a little pricey standalone wise compared to other places. But since I got it as a combo with the tangsuyuk, it wasn't bad. The tangsuyuk was served with the sauce on it. I should have requested to have it on the side. Unfortunately, they dont really offer water here. They can give you a disposable cup and send you to a water fountain. So best to just get a drink / boba from another spot. In anycase, this one is just okay.
I think this is our new favorite place for jjampong in Irvine -- we had previous said it was Paik's Noodles on culver, but I think it's here now. Compared to Paik's, Kyodong's broth has more seafood flavor and is a little less spicy. I think there's less pork as well. Overall, it makes for a milder but more rich and nuanced flavor. As for ingredients, Kyodong gives you more shellfish and less veggies and pork. The bowl at Kyodong is also larger, so there's a nicer presentation (for those who care about presentation at a food court lol). We're definitely coming back.
Korean Chinese spot with solid portions but the flavor didn't fully hit. Jajangmyeon: Maybe? It was fine but felt a little too light. Missing that deep savory punch that makes this dish so satisfying. Sweet and Sour Chicken: Maybe? Also just okay. The coating was crispy but the sauce leaned way too sweet for me. Would've been better with a little more balance. Portions were big though which I appreciated. Good value for how much food you get but not something I'd crave again. Food: 6/10 Value: 7/10
Tucked away into the hmart food court is where you'll find this spot. I came here on my lunch with a coworker to try out something different than what we'd normally get. He got the jjajang noodles with fried dumplings and I got the pork fried rice with jjajang sauce. His noodles came out very watery... different from any jjajang noodles we have ever gotten anywhere else. By the time he got past the sauce and the top half of the noodles he was faced with a soupy watery bowl. The fried dumpling was good, had a nice crispy outer shell and a soft chewy mix of meat and veggies. Nothing too crazy, nothing too extravagant but it sufficed. The fried rice was mostly good, but I couldn't even finish half. The portion is huge and it's very filling. The pork was a bit dry while the rice tasted drenched in oil and salt. The jjajang sauce was good though to eat together with the rice. The service was great - the worker was very friendly and professional. Since it's inside the hmart food court expect it to be loud - plenty of seating inside though. Overall, I don't know if I'd come back to try it again. The food just did not impress me, unfortunately. The noodles became soup and the rice was super oily. If I come back again I'd have to try something else to see if it's worth it.
Their jjamppong is so huge, enough for two or one very hungry person, with perfect noodle texture in a gloriously red spicy seafood broth that will leave an orange-red ring around your mouth. The +$20 price for a bowl of noodle soup in a food court might be eyebrow raising but the generous portion and the frozen but still good variety of seafood that flavors the broth so nicely is well worth it.
We came here to check out the food court inside HMart on Alton Parkway. Lots of good Asian food stalls inside. I ended up ordering Pork Fried Rice at Kyodong. Friendly and fast service despite the long line. I like that there is a monitor in front of each stall displaying your order #, to let you know if your food is ready. There's also someone who announces the order # when ready. My pork fried rice was very tasty and generous portion. I had it for 4 meals I think. The only knock was how the pork was cut (wished it was thinner or maybe small cubes) but taste-wise I truly enjoyed it. I also liked the black bean sauce with onions that it came with.

This hidden gem is located inside HMart on Alton & Culver in Irvine. I love the jjamppong seafood noodle soup, which has an seafood like mussels, shrimps and squid. The level of spice is on the mild side, but the broth is very flavorful and noodles are cook just right. This comes in a huge bowl, so it is shareable among 2-3 ppl. I also love the Jjangmyun noodles which is with black bean sauce and also includes pork. read more

Nice option in the H-Mart food court. The jjampong noodles are a large portion and can be shared by two people easily. Maybe I don't like jjampong, but the noodles were very saucy and not that much flavor. Service was fast and nice! read more

Good Jjajangmyeon is hard to find. Sure a lot of Korean spots serve it, but is it good? Located in the food court of the H-Mart, this place can get busy. First few times I came in, this was the only spot that had a line forming during lunch hour rush. I used Grubhub/Yelp a few times to order ahead so it was ready to eat when I arrived. This however means you're eating out of a plastic bowl instead a real one. It's nice that the noodles/sauce are separated for to-go orders. You'll be waiting quite a bit if you order directly (though it seems they do prioritize these orders) Noodles nice and bouncy, sauce full of flavor. Can't go wrong with "Korean Black Bean Spaghetti!" pickled radish is a good compliment. It's not the best Jjajangmyeon I've ever head, but its priced on par with today's world, and satisfies a craving. Don't get the spicy...literally $1 for just some Gochugaru powder sprinkled on top. read more

The black bean noodles, seafood noodles and fried pork here always hit a craving. I might be wrong but I believe they used to have another location close in the vicinity but I think they closed down to move inside the food court? It's a shame they don't have the restaurant style seating anymore. Regardless, I'll always come here if I'm craving black bean/or seafood noodles. Even for takeout it's still good :) read more

I used to love this place back when the owner was in Barranca -- the food was delicious, portions were generous, and the service was always warm and friendly. Since moving into the food court, it seems like the business is still doing well without much advertising. However, the atmosphere has changed. There are usually just young staff at the front, and unfortunately, friendly service no longer seems to be a priority. It feels like the owner is no longer involved or paying attention. The Jajangmyeon and Jjamppong haven't tasted the same for a while now -- they've definitely lost the old flavor. Most recently, I ordered the Kkanpung Shrimp, and all the batter was clumped together in one big piece. That was really disappointing. read more

I thought the food was just fine. It could've been that the food wasn't as tasty or as fresh as it could have been because we ordered from Doordash, but the food was a-okay! My husband and I ended up trying the Spicy Jjajangmyun, the Seafood Jjajangmyun, and the Tangsuyuk! I liked the fry on the tangsuyuk and I liked that they separated the sauce from the pork so that it stayed crispy. Based on my preference, I think the sauce was a little on the thick side. The Jjajangmyun was fine as well! It wasn't the most flavorful jjajangmyun that I've ever had, but it was okay. I did really enjoy the actual seafood itself in the seafood jjajangmyun. Overall, A-okay! I'd be willing to try this place again to see if my rating can increase :) read more
I ordered the spicy black bean noodles here and they were good, BUT so so SPICY!! Comparable to the heat from 2x buldak noodles. I would get the normal one next time! It was still delicious- the chew of the noodles were perfect... I was just numb after the spice built up. The sweet n sour pork was surprisingly really good too! Crispy & light, little tang from the sauce. Still tasted good after reheating it for dinner as well. Service was pretty fast too! It was in a little food court area and the food took about 10-15 minutes. Nice cafeteria-esque place to get a quick bite! read more

I have lost faith at this place lol their jjambbong don't taste as good as it did before and now their fried rice for this for $20 and had to ask them to remake it because of egg shells on the very first bite lol after they remake the fried rice, this will be my last meal here :) at least the register guy wasn't an ahole abt it writing this as I am waiting for the new fried rice Edit: they remade the fried rice with service of tangsuyook read more
Not a bad lunch! Was craving jjajangmian the other day and decided to try out this popular spot inside the HMart. What I ordered: -Spicy Jjajangmyeon: This option is $1 more expensive than their og but worth it if you really enjoy some spice. I have a pretty decent spice tolerance and thought this had quite a kick; I probably wouldn't recommend if you just want something mild. Noodles were chewy and portions were very large. I managed to finish the whole thing but you could probably split it in two smaller portions. Very saucy and filling. There were small cubes of potato and lean pork as well as small bits of sweet onion. This dish along with the jjamppong were by far the most popular menu items I saw everyone order. The restaurant and parking: This restaurant is located in a food court within the Westpark HMart. You order food at one of the various stalls, are given a number ticket and you find your own table. I had lunch here on a Sunday and it was VERY BUSY and difficult to find a table, especially if you are with a group of 4 or more. It took maybe 10 minutes to get my order, however. Parking was semi-difficult. It was definitely a busy plaza but not impossible to find a spot in the large lot. Overall: I would come back if I were craving some jjajangmyeon. While this place specializes in jajongmyung, my favorite thing was the jjamppong, which was a spicy noodle soup that came with generous portions of seafood. I also love the chewy thickness of the noodles! This is my favorite spot in the Hmart food court. read more

Delicious comfort food! The jjamppong is spicy, rich, and packed with seafood. Jjajangmyeon is super flavorful with perfectly chewy noodles. The food court setting is clean and casual, perfect for a quick and satisfying meal. Generous portions and fast, friendly service. Kyodong is known for their jjampong and jjajangmyun. Their jjajangmyun ($11.99) is solid, though their spicy jjajangmyun ($12.99) wasn't all that spicy. I had my eye on the jjampong because it comes in a gigantic bowl but was scared it would be to spicy and got the ulppong (seafood noodle soup, $14.99, instead). I'm glad I did. It was also served in a huge bowl, with lots of seafood (tiny mussels and clams, squid and a lone shrimp) and veggies. The broth was delicious. I felt a lot less guilty eating this than when I scarf down an order of jjajangmyun. Plenty of seating in the food court, especially when you come on the early side during the weekend. read more

Good jjampong and jjajangmyeon here. Probably serves as the magnet that attracts most who come to the food court area. The portion of shrimp fried rice was HUGE, enough to feed 3 people with a side of jjajang. Food court area has nice ambiance and everything is pretty much self-service driven. read more

The black bean noodle always looks so good whenever I see others eating it here so I was excited to try when we finally planned to go to the HMart food court for dinner. Now that we've had it, I don't think we'd come back again for it because it was just ok. The black bean sauce was a little on the blander side and we've all had better black bean noodles elsewhere. The sweet and sour pork though was good and the sauce was flavorful. It's still not something I'd come just to get it though cause the sweet and sour pork was pretty on par with other Korean restaurants as well. Good for a fast meal and portion was decent for the price. read more
Kyodong Noodles is located in the food court at the H Mart off of Culver and Alton. There is a lot of seating, even though it does get busy and can get loud. Kyodong is primarily known for their jjajangmeon (black bean noodles) and jjamppong (spicy seafood noodles), and offer combos that include tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) or fried dumplings. This place is our go-to option whenever we come here to eat, but I've noticed things have changed since they first opened. This time, we ordered jjajangmyeon and the ten piece fried dumplings. The wait for our food was pretty long, about 25 minutes, which was surprising considering we went in the later evening. In the past, they would offer very generous portions for the noodles, and there would be a good amount of meat in the sauce, but this time the portions were noticeably smaller and there were only a few tiny meat pieces in the sauce. The taste was still good, but the reduced portions and lack of meat was disappointing. The fried dumplings basically tasted like frozen dumplings that we could get just a few aisles over. Overall, the long wait and small portions led to an average experience this time. The taste was still consistent and maybe we just got an unusually small portion this time. I hope that this experience is just a one off instead of the norm. read more
Restaurant chain serving Korean and Chinese fusion. The founder Chef Lee opened the first location (Gyodong Banjeom) in Korea back in 1979. They are inside the food court of H Mart Westpark. Make sure your GPS is set correctly; don't go to H Mart in Northpark Plaza and definitely don't try to park at the Diamond Jamboree one. The food court entrance is on the left side, which is also the exit for the grocery store. You'll find them next to Cho Dang Tofu House. You order at the counter, they'll give you a receipt with a number, find a seat, and then listen for your number to be called. There are a good amount of tables, though it can get busy. Every thirty seconds you'll hear, "#__, your order is ready" since every restaurant uses the intercom. Don't know why they don't use pagers. Noodles with black bean sauce AKA jjajangmyeon (짜장면) - Textures were all on point and ingredients were balanced. A bad restaurant would make the noodles too clumpy, water down the sauce, add too much onions, and skimp out on the meat. Not the case at Kyodong! Sweet and sour pork AKA tangsuyuk (탕수육) - Outside batter was slightly soggy. Sauce had a tamarind-like sweetness, not much tartness. Great portions for the price! Come hungry! read more
