I just had homemade root beer since it was late afternoon and that was amazing. When visiting that part of the state again I am saving room for a burger and some onion rings. What a quintessential walk through time with an authentic drive in diner experience. Would definitely come back! read more

Exactly what I expected. Good burger fries and drink. Great service. Partner had the fried chicken which was excellent.

Hot dog and sloppy joe. Really loved the fried green beans! They were crisp and the green bean tasted fresh.

Food was horrible! Hamburgers were very small. Ritzee burgers are bigger. The lettuce was wilted and gross. No onion, tomato was mushy. Stale bun and it fell apart. Fries were limp. Deep fried mushrooms were burnt. Defiantly not worth $25 for two burgers, fries and mushroom. We should have went to Culver's. First and last time we will ever go there. read more

I'd never been to hi lite before today and I will NOT be back!! I am beyond disappointed and pretty pissed off about my experience. Let me share, maybe I'm over reacting maybe not. I ordered a large root beer a side of fried mushrooms and a chili dog. BEFORE ordering the dog I specifically asked the server if they had DILL relish, surprisingly she said yes! I was super excited because a lot of restaurants don't carry dill and so I ordered a chili dog with dill relish, onions and mustard. My order came - took a bite of my dog and it was sweet relish... I called a server over (not the same girl that took my order) and explained what happened and asked if I could get the right relish. She told me they don't have dill relish.. I'm now confused because I asked and was told yes they had dill. But I said okay and requested the same dog without relish, she said she'd see what she could do and walked away. A minute later an old man with a ridiculous mustache walks over and very aggressively asked "what the issue is" so I very calmly explained to him what happened... his response floored me. He insinuated I was lying right off the bat. He said "well I know my girls wouldn't have said that theyve all been here for years" annoyed at this point I stated that I wasn't lying and I'd like my hot dog remade. He literally said "I'm not remaking it. I know you weren't told we had dill" and walked away. Beyond mad at that point I took their tray off my window and let it hit the ground (I didn't throw it or slam it down - simply took it off my window and let go) and started to pull out. He came running after my car yelling "don't you ever come back!!!" I yelled back that I wouldn't. That I wasn't lying and that I was going to share my experience and let social media handle it. It was a stupid SERVER error about relish. He should have remade the $3.50 hot dog. I DID ASK before hand and I WAS TOLD they had dill. read more

Look, you don't go to the Hi-Lite for the Michelin stars, you go because it tastes like your childhood. You get a suspiciously round burger positively drowning in mayo and olives, you get big ole wedges of fried potato and warm-ass ranch to dunk 'em in, and it tastes essentially the same as when you were 5 and you used the door of the glove box on your dad's '88 Plymouth Horizon as a tray table. It's not the best, but it's a drive-in, the mugs are frosty, and the food is tasty and cheap. If you don't dig it, go find a Sonic. read more

I had my entire review planned out, and then I saw someone posted that "you don't go to Hi Lite for Michelin stars..." and I've never read a more perfect review in my life. This place is the perfect opposite of a Michelin restaurant...and just as delicious in it's own way. The food is perfect when you want delicious comfort food. The Bill's Buger, Mac and cheese bites, and fried pickles are favorites. And the root beer and shakes are great too! read more

Very good food. Prices are a tad high, you could spend over $10 on a burger, but the burgers are very good. Pretty big too. A lot of things to choose from on the menu. Also, pretty cool at nighttime when the lights are on, pretty nostalgic feeling. Love this place. One of my favorites in Marshall. read more

I have been a customer of this establishment under a few different owners. The food is ok but it always takes a "double check" to make sure order is correct and complete. Tonight's take out was missing the ranch sauce for the dipper fries in spite of the fact that I specifically asked for the sauce upon ordering. What a gem to find a place like this! An old style drive-in food joint like what they had in the 50's and 60's. They make their own root beer, sloppy joes, pulled pork, and more! Plenty of burger and hot dog options, tons of shakes! And that only covers part of their menu! And, their prices are incredible. read more

French fries, potato salad, color slaw and dippers were definitely Gordon's. Prices high for what you get. The two great things about this place is that it is truly an old-fashioned drive in and that some of the food is actually homemade. The chili, onion rings, root beer, potato dippers and coleslaw for example are all made in house, which is way better than most of the drive in/diners that buy their food from a big box food supplier and simply cook and serve it to customers. The service is outstanding and the two girls that were working the night we stopped helped each other and were both very friendly. So why the 2 stars?? We ordered chicken strips, chili cheese dogs, onion rings, diet root beer, and potato dippers. With the exception of the onion rings and the root beer - the food was just OK. You could tell the chili was made from scratch, but the flavor was just too different to be good. Same with the chicken strips and dippers. Two really big issues we had was that after we drove away we realized the car hop had forgot to give us the coleslaw that came with the chicken strip basket. The other really big issue is the prices. Hamburgers start out at about $5 and go all the way up to $8, and if you want them deluxe (with lettuce, tomato, and mayo) it will cost you another $1. Coney Dogs run about $2.50, fries are $3, and most ice cream sundaes run in the $5-$6 range. Hey I get that you are paying for the drive in vibe and I appreciate that the some of the food is homemade, but even with friendly service (even though they forgot my coleslaw) the Hi-Lite Cruz-In Diner is just simply not worth the price. read more

We went there for lunch and the service was slow. Our server seemed as if this was a court ordered service she had to fulfill vs liking her job and wanting to be there. We had to pay before touching our food, the we gone for 15+ minutes with our credit card and we were not given a receipt, and to top it off, my significant other left her phone on the table. We quickly went back to the HiLite to get it and the table had been cleared off. When we asked our waitress for the phone, she said that nothing was left on the table. We spoke with the manager and insisted that we left the phone there. The server then admits to picking up the phone with our baskets (we sat at an outside table). She gives the phone back and the security breach had been set off, which happens after 10 unsuccessful log in attempts! Real shady employees there. She clearly was trying to steal our phone. Terrible...never again Hi Lite! Food was barely par as well. read more

The food there is great , it is homemade food yes it may take sometime to get your food, but it is well worth it. It is not fast food, if you want fast food then go to hardees or some other fast food place. read more
