Recently stayed at the Westin and dined at the Bronze Bird twice, once for lunch and once for breakfast. Had the spicy chicken sandwich for lunch. It was very good. Served piping hot with a nice crispiness. The cabbage slaw on the sandwich was excellent, and i ordered extra as a side dish. The small included micro, diced pickles to give it an interesting edge. Breakfast buffet was one of the best quality Westin/Marriott breakfast buffets. Eggs were very good, bacon was fantastic, fruit was very fresh and in good condition. This is located within the Western gaslamp hotel. It was quiet when we arrived. It took about two minutes and we were sat at a table. Server: Ricardo was our server and he is fantastic! Friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. Food: we were not that hungry, got the spicy chicken salad and asked them to cut it in half. Got an extra side of slaw. I did not realize it came with fries. The chicken sandwich was temperature hot with some spice and crunch with the slaw. Getting extra slaw on the side was nice. I think the breakfast would be a better deal if you want to eat a full breakfast. If you just want a little bite, then order from the menu. Showed up about 5 pm on a Sunday night and were seated right away without reservations. I ordered the pan fried mahi mahi that came on a bed of risotto and asparagus. My wife ordered the short rib tacos. Everything was great. They also give you 20% off if you're going to a show at the Theatre. I read about this and asked the waiter and he gave us the discount without even asking to see our tickets. He mentioned that the Westin hotel (this is attached to the hotel) offers $10 valet parking that is good for 5 hours if you're seeing a show and get your parking ticket validated at the Bronze Bird. After looking it over I decided to give it a try. My partner ordered a mixed drink and his entree. After about 10 minutes of lively conversation we realized we have not been served a single beverage let alone the soup that came with my meal. I was starting to lose hope in the wait staff so we flagged down the nearest employee who happened to be James the manager. After we explained the situation he largely took care of us personally and couldn't be more delighted with his commitment to our dining experience. I can't thank him enough for the experience. Ambiance has a modern feel, which blends well with the hotel decor. What I had: Dry Bird - This mocktail has ginger beer and is a nice non alcoholic alternative to add to your meal. This was sweeter than expected and would have preferred a less sweeter drink. Smoked Potato Leek Soup - Warm, comforting and creamy. I liked that it had a taste of bacon in it. Chicken Jidori Scallopini - Perfectly seared and juicy pieces of chicken paired with mushrooms and greens. I had some leftover so I'll be having it again for lunch! Pan Seared Chinook Salmon - This is a fatty salmon but still flaky and light. The salmon isn't pink but the waiter explained that due to the fat content, it's a white color. Kiwi Mille Feuille - This is a flaky dessert with cream in between. It was nicely sweet and you can either pick it up and eat like a taco or use a fork and knife. We had a pretty good experience eating here on a Monday night of Labor Day weekend. It was pretty empty but we got served very quickly from our appetizers and dinner entrees. They were very attentive to water refills but I found flagging them down to be pretty difficult for other things like getting the check or adding items to our order. Our favorite dishes were the brussels sprouts and the fries on every plate. The brussel sprouts were very crispy, and it came with goat cheese and pancetta. The steak was cooked to medium rare, which was juicy and great. I think the salmon was a little too dry but you guys can make that decision yourself. When we arrived, it was practically empty, so we had our pick of seats. As soon as we sat down, our waiter, Juan, took our drink order and brought them back quickly. I was torn between two menu items, and Juan was incredibly helpful--he patiently explained both options without rushing me. I ended up going with the Wagyu Burger, while my wife chose the Lobster Roll. We both ordered sweet potato fries, and honestly, they were some of the best we've ever had--possibly the best. My wife absolutely loved her lobster roll, and while my burger wasn't the best I've ever had, it was still really good. Juan checked in on us multiple times during the meal to make sure everything was going well. The only odd moment came toward the end when Juan seemed to disappear--most likely because the restaurant suddenly got much busier. A different staff member stopped by with a dessert menu (without clearing plates), and then what appeared to be a manager came over, cleared the plates, offered my wife a refill, and took our dessert order. Shortly after that, Juan reappeared and checked in on us again. The manager later returned with the refill, and our dessert arrived: fried churros. They were really good--not quite fresh Disneyland-level churros, but still excellent. When Juan came back, we asked for the check, and he asked if we were heading to the theatre. We said yes, not really knowing why he asked--turns out he applied a discount because we were seeing a show. He didn't have to do that, but it was a really nice surprise.
