    Dinner and a show deal
    Annie D.

We did the "dinner and show" deal with the Westin downtown which is just a 2 minute walk from the Civic Theatre where we watch our niece's ballet. You pay $10 for 5 hours of valet parking and also get 20% off your check which is a great deal. I had the local catch with risotto. The fish was not overcooked and the risotto was perfect. A lot of options for the kids which was a plus. The food is standard American fare but it was good and not too expensive for a hotel restaurant. We would definitely return next time we have a show to catch.

This was absolutely delicious. I ate the lava cake so fast I forgot to get a picture. Enough food to share for two and it was amazing. The wings were more flavorful than I expected. The brussel sprouts were so soft and tasty. Quick service thankfully split between two people. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was just on the off shoot of the front entryway. They sat is far enough away that it didn't feel uncomfortable[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Well decorated.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Bronze Bird is tucked away in the Marriott in downtown SD. Service is outstanding- attentive and timely. I came for an early dinner with a friend and ordered the Wagyu Burger and fries and a smoked old fashion. The Wagyu burger was cooked medium rare as requested and had nice cohesion. It was a nice touch to include a good amount of veggies that I could choose how much I wanted. The smoked old fashion was a fun time, the waiter smoked it live for us using a blowtorch. Prices are a little high for what you get and I was a little hungry after finishing my dinner. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall this was a fun dinner and drinks spot![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    A great breakfast

Recently stayed at the Westin and dined at the Bronze Bird twice, once for lunch and once for breakfast. Had the spicy chicken sandwich for lunch. It was very good. Served piping hot with a nice crispiness. The cabbage slaw on the sandwich was excellent, and i ordered extra as a side dish. The small included micro, diced pickles to give it an interesting edge. Breakfast buffet was one of the best quality Westin/Marriott breakfast buffets. Eggs were very good, bacon was fantastic, fruit was very fresh and in good condition. Service: good service, especially for breakfast when I was running late to get a flight Overall, the bronze bird went up in my book compared to my last visit.

This is located within the Western gaslamp hotel. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was quiet when we arrived.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It took about two minutes and we were sat at a table. Server: Ricardo was our server and he is fantastic! Friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. Food: we were not that hungry, got the spicy chicken salad and asked them to cut it in half. Got an extra side of slaw. I did not realize it came with fries. The chicken sandwich was temperature hot with some spice and crunch with the slaw. Getting extra slaw on the side was nice. The French fries were hot, crunchy, and lots of flavors and textures. A solid delicious chicken sandwich. And great service with Ricardo!

    Mother's Day

Went for Mother's Day, Petals and Prosecco which was a little misleading because they said mothers could design their own floral bouquet in the description and it was just a bucket of maybe 2 colors roses and you got one. Service was ok, I had to get up and ask the server for boxes and the check and coffee. Seemed like they had forgotten about our table at the end. The food was good, but desserts were very dry and stale. Moms were happy though, so that's all that mattered to me!

LOVE THIS SPOT. Food Service We stopped in for a drink and a snack last night. I got the chipotle lobster roll with pico and fries, very unique flavors. It was fresh and delicious and served on a Texas toast, I loved it!!! My husband got a chocolate lava dessert, he said it was the best treat to end the night with the sweet berries on the side. I had a Paloma which was so tasty & made very well. Juan was our server, super friendly & attentive. He was fantastic !! [[HIGHLIGHT]]He sat us at a nice quiet table.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant had an open layout & was very clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

(Dined 08/29/25 FR @ 6:30pm): I saw neither any bronze or birds at this place! After a long afternoon touring investment properties with my realtor, we kept things easy and ended the day at Bronze Bird for a casual meal. We were staying overnight at The Westin San Diego Gaslamp Quarter where the restaurant was located, so the convenience was a major factor. Personally, I always liked to try in-hotel restaurants, and this one looked very inviting. Could this eatery be more than a bronze in our books, or would we end up giving it the bird!? OVERALL Bronze Bird turned out to be the perfect way to end a busy day and a good night's sleep. As expected, the prices were elevated for a higher-end hotel, but they weren't crazy. And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS

Staying at the hotel, this is where they serve breakfast. They give you the option of the breakfast buffet or order off the menu, à la cart. We opted for the buffet. I think the breakfast would be a better deal if you want to eat a full breakfast. If you just want a little bite, then order from the menu. Also, ordering an omelette with the server is included in the buffet; four ingredients. The buffet food was ok. They have a little of everything. I did order an omelette, that was ok. I thought it was a little over cooked, but it was edible. Overall, the food is mediocre. I would eat here when I'm staying at the hotel.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]What a cute and nice lunch spot if you're working downtown or even just here for jury duty.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Got lucky & came here on a Tuesday- turns out they have daily lunch specials & today was the Short Rib Tacos. For only $11, you get a trio of savory, hearty tacos with a touch of queso, crisp purple cabbage, & pickled onions. Normally I would pair it with a tequila or martini, but since I still had other duties the remainder of the day, I opted out :) I heard from the waiter Ernie that Mondays/ Fridays are popular due to the burger lunch special. Good to know if that is what you're craving and are in the area. Ernie also mentioned that if you eat here before a show at the Civic Center, they will give you 20% off! Helpful tip in light of inflation & downtown costs... Appreciate Ernie's kindness! Service is friendly - this hotel has been around for decades so nice to see it operating and having people flow in and out for business /work. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Interior can be a little dark so I opted for seating near the windows/patio.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Once the weather is warmer it would be a nice spot for evening drinks, happy hour.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Cheers

I love San Diego Restaurant Week & I had to start it off with one of my favorite gems, Bronze Bird. I've been here two years ago and the food amazing for the price point. Ambiance has a modern feel, which blends well with the hotel decor. What I had: Dry Bird - This mocktail has ginger beer and is a nice non alcoholic alternative to add to your meal. This was sweeter than expected and would have preferred a less sweeter drink. Smoked Potato Leek Soup - Warm, comforting and creamy. I liked that it had a taste of bacon in it. Chicken Jidori Scallopini - Perfectly seared and juicy pieces of chicken paired with mushrooms and greens. I had some leftover so I'll be having it again for lunch! Pan Seared Chinook Salmon - This is a fatty salmon but still flaky and light. The salmon isn't pink but the waiter explained that due to the fat content, it's a white color. Kiwi Mille Feuille - This is a flaky dessert with cream in between. It was nicely sweet and you can either pick it up and eat like a taco or use a fork and knife. Valet parking is free with validation and it's 10 dollars afterwards. Definitely will come back again!

My new birthday tradition is treating myself to a solo birthday dinner here during golden hour and watching the boats and jet skis go by with the San Diego skyline in the background. The ceviche verde is delicious and has just the right amount of spice. For my birthday I got the complimentary strawberry shortcake which was light and not overly sweet. The manager even came over to wish me a happy birthday which was such a thoughtful touch. I had such a nice evening. If you're looking for a great date night, birthday dinner, or even a peaceful solo dinner with beautiful bay views, I'd definitely recommend this spot. A couple tips: Try to make a reservation for a table outside. They have outdoor heaters but I always try to bring a jacket just in case I get cold. Also I would recommend booking for about an hour before sunset although there really isn't a bad time to go. Yesterday when I went, it was a Sunday night so it was fairly busy. One thing to keep in mind is that the parking lot is pretty small, so I'd give yourself a little extra time in case you need to find parking nearby. They also have valet for $10 if that's easier.

Food - 5 Stars We started with the Tempura Rock Shrimp, which was really good! The Yuzu honey aioli dipping sauce was amazing. Loved this dish! My wife had the Chilean Seabass (which - side note - I always think is funny because FYI Chilean Seabass is not actually seabass. Look it up! It's actually a Patagonian toothfish!). Anyhow, it was amazing! I stole a few bites. I didn't get a photo of it, but it was a good portion and the fish was cooked perfectly. The risotto paired so well with the fish and had a ton of flavor. Highly recommend this dish! I had the Swordfish Sandwich. Everything about this sandwich was really really good. The fish was exactly how I expected it to be, meaty! Loved the brioche bun and the sauce. However, I would have preferred more sauce. If I were to order this again, I would see if they could give me some extra sauce. The sandwich came with French fries. I wasn't a big fan of the seasoning. The French fries tasted like bbq chips, and I don't like bbq chips lol. I somehow didn't notice that on the menu it actually says "BBQ spiced", and had I saw that I would have just asked for the fries without the seasoning. But, they were still cooked well and so if you like bbq flavor chips then you will love these fries. For dessert we got the chocolate brownie. It was AMAZING. The brownie was soft, moist, and very rich in flavor. I would totally get this again - and next time I would ask for extra ice cream. Especially if you're planning on sharing this with someone, an extra scoop of ice cream would be good. View - 5 Stars Epic view truly. Obviously a big reason why many people including ourselves come here. We wanted the view for our date night, and it really did not disappoint. We had dinner around 7pm so we got to see the sunset which made it even more romantic. TIPS: There was a pretty big parking lot, but we still took an uber here instead. It was our first time and didn't know what to expect. Also, Seaport Village closes up at 9pm, so if you're planning on walking around the village after your dinner, make sure you plan your dinner time accordingly. Definitely make reservations ahead of time. When we arrived, they were turning people away that didn't have reservations. Fortunately for us, we did! :) If you plan on going later in the evening and sit on the balcony, it's semi-indoors. Basically it's outdoors, but covered, and it got pretty cold for me. So plan to bring a jacket or a sweater.

I visited one week ago and clearly communicated a severe crustacean allergy to our server. I specifically asked if the oysters were fried in the same oil as the spot prawns. Without checking with the kitchen, the server immediately assured me they were not, claiming the spot prawns were cooked in a separate pan and not fried at all. When the dish arrived, the prawns appeared clearly deep-fried, but I relied on the server's explicit assurance. A few hours later, I began experiencing an allergic reaction, confirming that I had been exposed to crustaceans--likely because the oysters were indeed fried in the same oil as the prawns. The following morning, I called the restaurant to verify their frying practices. Without mentioning my allergy, I asked the hostess if the oysters and spot prawns were fried in the same oil. She checked with the kitchen and confirmed that they were. When I then spoke with a manager to report the dangerous misinformation I had been given, the situation only worsened. The manager attempted to deflect, claiming the hostess was "confused" and thought I was asking about a gluten allergy--despite me never mentioning gluten. It felt as though the management was more interested in covering their tracks than addressing a serious safety failure. After a hesitant and insincere check on my well-being, the manager promised to investigate and call me back once the server was in. It has now been over a week, and I have heard nothing. If you have a food allergy, I would strongly advise against dining here. The lack of basic safety protocols, combined with a dishonest and dismissive management team, makes this establishment a significant risk.

Definitely on the pricier end for certain dishes but many of them are well worth it! - sourdough bread: good but also why are we spending $16 here. can't say it's worth - ahi tartare: no notes, everything hit, would come back for this alone - steamed clam and mussels: these were some meaty af mussels. delicious! the clams were tiny & pathetic tho and can't say I loved having the chorizo in there - charred broccolini: honestly don't remember this well but i had no complaints - grilled oysters: another fav of mine!!! a must get - hearth roasted carrots: the yogurt & pesto were on the side (due to dairy restrictions) but the pesto was SO. GOOD. paired beautifully with the carrots!!!!! I'm dying to know how to make this at home myself - branzino: good but would skip. I do typically like fish entrees but this wasn't overly impressive. could've used more sauce - NY strip: our favorite entree!!!! paired SO with the bone marrow - duck: super tender and fell right off the bone!!! our second fav entree - almond joy: incredible dessert, every bite I felt like I was getting a little something new. vanilla ice cream in the middle. LOVEEED this as our ending to dinner

Lots of hype about Fort Oak. Seemed to be busy when we were in the area. Menu is pinch…read moreoff-putting. Wasn't tooooo much looking forward to it, but it fit all the Birthday Dinner check marks and you can't down talk a place if you haven't been there. First. Listen. Everyone's using open table. But Fort Oak, tell Open Table to chill. I used open table to reserve about 4 days in advance, but still got a TON of emails, and a ton of notifications. Including one that, if I didn't respond to it, would cancel my reservation. Then 3 follow ups asking me to review Fort Oak. Haysuse on a pogo stick, that was almost a detractor from the actual dinner. Is this dinner or a past due bill sent to collection agency? I digress. First, our waiter Johny E, phenomenal. Dude knows wine in ways that are supernatural. Spot on recommendations. Second. Put on your Pulp Fiction "5 dollar shake" face about a 50 dollar pork chop. A FIFTY DOLLAR PORK CHOP. Waiter, who had already proven he know WTF was what, simply said "we're known for it, you will probably enjoy, people rave about it". So, I mean, when in Rome. Johny wasn't lying. It's a pretty @#$#ing good pork chop. Color me amazed. You can be skeptical. You might say I was just trying to justify having spent 50 on a pork chop. Try it. Stunning. I don't know if it's the best I ever had, but I can't remember a better one. Over all, they nail the experience, the food, and wrap it up in a bow. It is always busy, so a reservation is best (I'd call vice using that @#$# open table app, I swear). Shout out about Johny - in fact, ask for him to be your waiter, he a star.
