Crab Salad, Dinner Roll, and M6. Crab Rangoon
    Kristopher T.

We were greeted promptly as we walked into the restaurant. The staff were all very nice and checked in at the table. The ambiance of the restaurant was quiet yet welcoming, with soft East Asian instrumental music playing softly in the background. The food was slightly on the cooler side but still within an acceptable temperature range. Normally, I find something on the line of a buffet that I don't enjoy, but that was not the case here; I enjoyed everything I ate. The Rangoon is to die for, with a special shout-out to their Crab salad. The open sushi bar is the icing on top of the cake. Overall, a great experience. As someone who has never been here before, I was pleasantly surprised and delighted with every bite.

a variety of salads and sides

This is my kitchen, I eat there lunch and dinner and don't have to cook at home. Their price is great, $8.99 for lunch and $11.99 for dinner.

Initially had my mind set on fish. But upon hearing the location we went had a 3 hour wait, we decided to try this place out. We did the buffet! The first plate was iffy, I had literally a combination of all different things I like. I also tried the sushi rolls they had, the yum yum rolls and the spicy . They were good, the honey chicken was good and hot, the general tso chicken was kind of cold, the lomein was good as well. I also had some bourbon chicken and it too was kind of cold. I was kind of disappointed...Until!!! I went to the hibachi grill! And created my own combo plate with rice, steak, chicken, shrimp, broccoli, onions and peppers! It was pretty darn amazing! It pretty much saved this review lol oh annnnnd the sweet tea was REALLY GOOD! Not overly sweet, but just right! The location is clean, had a small issue with my initial silverware, but that was corrected ASAP. The staff was nice and courteous. I am slightly disappointed in myself because I ate wayyyy to much lol I'll definitely have to burn this off, but sooooo worth it. Overall it is definitely a place that we will return to, I may just bypass the other things all together and go straight for the sushi and hibachi!

The staff isn't super personable but the food is on point! Vegetarians probably want to avoid the grill (maybe the whole place. If you're super strict) cross contamination was a definite issue there (which applies to everyone. Not just vegs). Oysters. Clams. Cocktail shrimp. Good sushi selection. And all your other Asian favorites and more. We will eat here again.

Wish it was as good as it looked.

I started with a huge center cut pork chop. It had a great grilled flavor and a very interesting tomato based sauce. Next there was tasty smoked sausage which was surrounded by a large variety of grilled vegetables. I don't eat veggies but I could tell those who do would be happy as well. Then I had some tasty taco beef and I topped it with some cool bean sauce and cheese and sour cream. I also had a nice piece of steak very flavorful. The iced tea was nice and strong. I also had a glass of orange and even it was better than normal it was strong on syrup with a good bite. Next the deserts. At first I was disappointed because they looked like they came from Walmart. However, when I tasted them I was blown away again. The lemon cake was moist and tasted like the delicious lemon archway cookies from my childhood. Next I tried a pumpkin cream log. The spices were perfect and the filling had an excellent balance of tangy cream cheese and sweet. The lunch buffet was $15 drink included. Not only was it the most real and flavorful meal I've had in years but the couple running the place are super friendly and keep the buffet very well maintained. The place was completely clean including the restrooms. The only thing I was missing was some bread or mashed potatoes, but I think they have those sometimes just not the day I went.

My top-tier chum who literally went to the school of hospitality and I came here two Fridays ago ahead of a bourbon tour (thinking, correctly, that we should probably have a hearty meal beforehand so we didn't end up face-first in a gutter somewhere). Several Kentucky natives told us that we had to try a Hot Brown during our visit, and since it was literally created at the Brown Hotel, this seemed like the logical spot. The actual Hotel has some gorgeous interiors, especially upstairs in the lobby. We didn't see that area until after our meal, so when we laid eyes on the Lobby Bar & Grill, we knew immediately that that was where we SHOULD have gone for this Hot Brown dish. J. Graham's, I'm sorry to say, doesn't have the history and personality of the rest of the building and just looks like a generic breakfast spot you'd find in any hotel. It probably exists solely because the other dining options in the hotel aren't open until later and they want to give tourists and their own customers a place to eat at all times of the day, which isn't a terrible reason in my book. But it's also unfortunately not very good, and the dirty walls and overall meh appearance of the establishment just make it very clear that the hey day for this hotel overall was decades ago. The service was the biggest miss here. Our waitress was scatterbrained, often not around or around but hanging out with co-workers or talking up other customers. It was honestly pretty mystifying because when she DID come by, she was often overly apologetic and trying to make amends. But the best way to make amends is not to have to keep doing that throughout the meal. She forgot my friend's coffee (didn't write anything down when we ordered, which is fine if you remember everything but...) and when my chum asked what was in the hummus (one of just three apps), she didn't know and had to go ask someone in the kitchen. That's arguably a nitpick and she DID try to figure it out, but the lunch menu is pretty small and it was a little odd that her menu knowledge was that limited. The bigger problem was that we were in there for over half an hour longer than we wanted to be because she wouldn't come by our table. I actually actively looked for her on the way to the bathroom so I could remind her to come to our table, but instead found her off to the side gossiping with other staff. Not a good look at all. So this might have been an overall positive experience if some of the hospitality from the hotel had spilled over here. We actually both enjoyed the apps, which were the only real positives of the experience. The Bourbon Barrel Fries and the Two Timer, featuring Smoked Bourbon Hummus (bourbon tends to be the theme of your days in this town, I've found) were both really good, and I probably ate more of those than the actual entree. The fries were cooked perfectly and were well seasoned/addictive. The Hot Brown was fine for what it was (we split it to try). It's basically a dramatic turkey melt, with slices of turkey coated in cheese and other sauces. It also came with strips of bacon on top, which on a personal palate level I didn't think really helped the dish so I barely nibbled on those. It's definitely a solid entry but it wasn't mind-blowing for either of us. Maybe it's just from where we come from in the Northeast, but I'm conditioned to like my turkey with accompanying stuffing, and usually in the latter part of November. I think it felt kind of weird to be eating turkey with warm cheese. But I'm glad we tried it and got the context at least. You might have a completely different experience with better service, but I'd still recommend going upstairs for any dining. It's a much better atmosphere and you can really appreciate where this hotel fits in the chronology of Louisville. You're not going to get that from going here.

Lastly, it wasn't long after my brother and I started at 1130 that MANY working people showed up and made for a good crowd. It wasn't too loud and the restaurant is noticeably CLEAN. They've added some new items, like spare ribs, stuffed clams, & crawfish. No longer did they serve fried chicken wings, instead offering "buffalo" wings soaking in some sauce. I skipped them. My wife loved the new frog legs, although a tad on the salty side. Hot & sour soup is still some of the best you'll find. I appreciated the wontons in a separate steamer so you can add it to your soup. Overall, the buffet was fresh. Tasty. And a nice variety. But they really need to fix the steam tables. Not one dish was actually hot unless it just came from the kitchen. Now, an observation. Initially, we were going to opt for home delivery. Good heavens. Our $35 order came to almost $60 with all the GH add ons. At Golden Blossom our 2 buffets came to just under $35 with tip (and a senior discount). EZ call.

Unfortunately, there was no option to request utensils and they didn't include any, so this whole meal was a bust. I'm not taking that out on the review here, just making a note so hopefully they take note to include that option. The hotel I was in didn't have any, and most places around were closing so I was out of luck. I ended up having to fashion some sort of scoop out of the styrofoam container that the rice came in. Did it work? No. But was it at least serviceable? Also no. It was a freaking mess and I basically ended up pitching it. But from what I could taste in between dripping bites all over my hotel room was pretty good! I went with the basics and got a chicken tikka masala. It was not quite the medium spice level, so I'd round up if you like spicey. The chicken was great quality; very tender and flavorful, definitely the highlight. The vegetable samosas were nice and easy to eat so I had two of these which are always good. Same feedback as above, needs a little more spice and flavor in the filling but solid. So all in all, in the unique situation of arriving late and getting hung out to dry on utensils, not great. But the food and prices and everything else were fair to good, so I kind of land in the middle with this one.
