Went to Hickory Grille after a movie and had great service, in fact our server went above and beyond when one of our party needed to leave due to being sick prior to being served her order. I got the Pittsburgh and it was one of the best sandwiches I have had. My mouth is watering just thinking about how good it was. This restaurant has some of the best food I've ever eaten. The zucchini fries are excellent. I usually ask for the ranch dill dip with them instead of marinara. We love the filet mignon on a croissant and they have great burgers. Save room for dessert. It's all great. read more

I was very unhappy with the food.In the past the food was excellent however this time (6/7/15) the food was bad. Ordered The spinach dip and it was hot but in no way creamy. Had the beans and greens soup, as a side(at a $1 extra) and it was not fresh nor did it have any beans in it.The main course was the creamy chicken marsala. The meat it self tasted freezer burned and the sauce was just oily. Also the baked potato was old. If you order them regularly,at other places, you can tell.My server on the other hand was very nice. We go to Hickory almost every time we go for dinner! They know us very well there, but a few weeks ago we ordered dinner and we sat in the bar at a high top table and I saw our waiter, a shorter,bald, order gentleman sprinkle cheese on our salads and then he cupped our steak for our salads in his bare hand and put it on our salads. Just Disgusting! It really grossed me out! Shame on that waiter who tried to hide it and honestly Hickory should have all employees wear gloves. That turned us so bad, we haven't been back. The manager in training was very nice and brought new salads and adjusted our bill. Hickory is to be an above average restaurant, that night they were not. Please Wear GLOVES!!!! read more

We chose this restaurant for our 22nd anniversary dinner. Big mistake.. First, the hostess knew nothing about her job. We asked her a question two different times and her reply was, "I don't know" and seemed flustered. She made no attempt to find an answer. We had a great waitress but the food and wine were more than disappointing. The red wine I ordered should have been chilled. It was room temp. My husband and I ordered the most expensive steak on the menu and requested medium well and medium respectively. Both were raw. Both were more fat than meat. Disgusting. We sent them back, our waitress was very nice about it and agreed they weren't cooked properly. The manager returned them, no apology, asked us to cut them to see if they were done to our liking. Curtly stepped off. The steaks did not look like a Delmonico cut and flavor was not great. Again, so much fat. Our waitress comped. us dessert, we took it to go. She was the only good thing about our $76 meal. Never again! This is the first time I've ever been upset enough to write a bad review. As we left my husband asked the hostess if they had a survey to rate our experience but she didn't know. Smh read more

I used to be a huge fan of this place but my experiences over the past year or two have definitely brought this down a notch. For example, I took my daughter out to celebrate recently following a surgery that prevented her from eating a normal diet for a while and had what was probably my worst experience yet. It was 10 minutes before anyone came to wait on us and even then it was the manager who noticed we hadn't been served yet. Meanwhile there were literally only two other tables seated in the restaurant at the time. The manager brought us drinks and our server came to welcome us shortly thereafter. We ordered an appetizer and a few minutes later we put in our dinner order so that we could clear the table of menus before our app came out. Next thing you know, we received our app, our dinner salads, AND our meals....all at the same time. We basically just boxed up the appetizer since we didn't have time to enjoy it. I was also disappointed with the broiled cod, a dish I've had many many times at HG over the years and always loved. It came out bland and completely white, with no evidence of it ever seeing the light of the broiler. That touch of brown on top of a broiled piece of fish goes a long way to improve the taste....this fish was not even remotely browned and it also had a much gamier taste than it used to. I had only one glass of wine because we were feeling so rushed and was pleased with the quality of my selection at least. We ordered dessert to go, but I noticed a much smaller variety to choose from than they used to have, so we only took one dessert as there wasn't really anything else that tickled our fancy. The brownie was ok but between the two of us, we never did finish it....it just wasn't really anything special. I was so disappointed and will probably avoid this restaurant in the future. I'd rather spend my money somewhere that isn't trying to rush me out so that I can actually enjoy the rare opportunities I have to treat myself to dinner. As someone who has worked in the restaurant industry for 20 years, I see a lot of issues cropping up at HG that need to be addressed before anyone spends their hard earned money there. I absolutely love this place. They are very reasonably priced for what you get. Has a pretty decent variety on the menu to pick from like flatbreads, sandwiches, burgers, and a variety of chicken, steak, seafood and pasta dishes. Also some interesting appetizers such as the Texas Caviar, Southwestern Nachos and Reuben Tots. I personally love their Stuffed Hot Peppers and especially their Hickory Chips. The last time I was there I tried their Lobster Mac & Cheese and I think it was in the top 5 of best meals I've had. This is a $23 dish but it is HUGE and it also comes with a side, which pastas usually don't. I am not joking when I say you get at least three meals out of this. The amount of lobster they put in the pasta along with the actual taste make it worth every penny you spend on it. I would get this dish over and over again every visit here. Ok listen up people everyone gets a bad meal every once in a while but I really don't know how anyone gets one here. I eat at this place on an average twice a week & have never had a bad anything. The atmosphere is good, the food is good, the prices are decent. It's not a gourmet restaurant, but their menu does have a nice variety. Something for everyone. Someone's review of the sweet potatoes being hard? They are known for their sweet potatoes there, my husband absolutely loves them. And the fire grilled chicken is so moist it melts in your mouth. It really is the only place in town where you can go that is reasonably priced that has something for everyone. The appetizers are fantastic! For anyone who likes hot peppers, try the Todds hot peppers. The service is almost always near perfect but of course I too sit with Reva, she's my fave! There are other great servers there also. I personnaly have also had private parties here that were well done with great service. The bar is also tasteful and so is their patio. read more

My wife never ate here so I said, sure why not. 1st event, seated beside a table of drunks. They were there when we arrived and still going when we left. The longer we were there the louder they got and the profanity got worse. 2nd, ordered an appetizer, THAT NEVER CAME! 3rd, the salads, mine was good but my wife's looked like they spilled dressing all over it, way too much! 4th, the meals,12 oz prime rib and 12 oz sirloin. Prime rib was ok, the steak, NO FLAVOR, NONE! 5th, my wife asked for A-1 sauce to make her steak taste better. This is a no no for anyone that enjoys a well prepared cut of meat. The bottle was nasty looking, almost empty, say for a few drops, and didn't even taste like A-1!!! 6th, the waitress never came back to ask how are food was, EVER, just to drop off the check and walk away. She finally came back when we had our coats on and were walking away. I've eaten at other SRG establishments in Mercer, PA and had a much better experiance. If you want a nice night out with your wife, there are much better places in the area to chose from. read more
