We had come halfway between dropping off our daughter at school and home. Was recommended by the hotel staff. We were disappointed. The lighting had done issue and do kept striving throughout dinner we asked and were told it happens all the time. Our waitress never introduced herself and seemed bothered that we were there near the end of her shift. Asked for wine- she did not know it was out. The wine we ordered was warm. Asked about the special and she said "it's ok, is that what you want?" Ordered the nachos. Shrimp were not blackened as advertised but the cheese sauce was good. Soups came out seconds after the appetizer. When entree came potatoes were cold and steaks were only slightly better. After waiting for her to return, she did go and reheat the potatoes. Asked if we were going to eat our dessert there. Seemed bothered that we said yes. Dropped the check and said "no rush". Stark contrast to the server/bartender that was there. He was personable, gave guests at the bar options (mushrooms or onions with steak- we didn't even know that was an option, thanked guests and told them to have a nice evening). I have been a a server and I usually over tip staff. I had a hard time even giving 10%. Could have been nice. Just felt like we were annoying the server and she basically said she had had a long day and was done. We already knew without the announcement. Wished we had the gentleman! He actually "served" his guests. This was not the hotel's first choice. Should have listened to the desk clerk. Would have had a better time at the Italian place. read more

We walked in on a Saturday to pick up our take out. It was absolutely packed. The decor was very cool inside and definitely a place I would want to go back to and sit at the bar or booth. I ordered the thai shrimp entree, and it was good but nothing too special. Portion size was super small for the price. I ended up splitting it and sharing it with my friend and I had half of his entree which he opted for the burger and sweet potato fries. If you go here the burger is the much better option. I'm not sure about the other nicer entrees but mine was just a bit of a miss that evening. My family and I are big fans of the Springfield group restaurants! We have been enjoying meals from Rachel's, Iron Bridge, Springfield Grill, Hickory Bar and Grille and the Log Cabin for over a decade. However, our last dining experience at Hickory was a huge let down. We surprisingly didn't have a wait and usually there is always a wait for dinner. Our waitress came over right away and she was really friendly. However, she was forgetful at times. We didn't receive our dinner rolls until after our dinner was over and that's because we asked. Those dinner rolls are one of the best parts of the meal! To start we ordered onion straws and my parents ordered French onion soup. Everyone was onboard with the taste of their soup and appetizer. For our meals I ordered the Carmel fruit salad with grilled shrimp, my mom ordered the teriyaki chicken skewers with rice and my dad ordered a steak. The salad was interesting; it included watermelon, grapes, cantaloupe, candied pecans and honeydew. The dressing was a Carmel vinaigrette and was pretty tasty. I cannot say the same about the grilled shrimp. It was very bland and had a very strong fish taste. I've had grilled shrimp on plenty of salads and they definitely didn't taste fishy. My mom said her chicken was also very bland and had no flavor and this was supposed to be "teriyaki". My dad said the same thing about his steak having no flavor. My coworkers and I came here after we finished up work. It was really early for dinner. There weren't a lot of people there and the place had very dim lighting. I ordered the Fire-Grilled Chicken Breast ($10.99) which came with soup or salad and a choice of a side. I chose the potato soup and coleslaw. The potato soup was probably the only thing I ate that was actually good. The Fire-Grilled Chicken Breast was very dry and I thought there would be something with it like sauce but nope. Hickory Bar & Grille is a great place to eat. They have wonderful appetizers like their New York style pretzels. My favorite thing to get is fromage it is the best flatbread pizza. I order the pizza to take to work sometimes as well. The atmosphere is extraordinarily. There are fire places. They have private booths and tables large enough to accommodate huge parties. They have outdoor seating as well. I often go on Wednesday to enjoy a nice prime rib dinner (16 oz for $20). I went with a friend from work and we ordered a big fish sandwich. It was big and delicious. I haven't eaten anything yet that I did not enjoy. read more

Let me just start by saying that I haven't stopped thinking about the Cast Iron Spinach Dip for weeks. We wanted to try something different after our stop at Kraynaks and I was told to come here by someone local to the area and we were not disappointed. They were very busy but we only had about a 10 minute wait and that worked out because we got to look over the menu. The inside is very comfy, cozy and inviting with a nice fireplace when you first walk in. I got the Meatloaf and my husband got a burger with mac and cheese on it! yum. Decided to go here on a Saturday night after a friend of mine suggested it. Table we sat at was large and spacious for our group of 4. Menu is extensive which is nice. We ordered the angel rings for an appetizer and they are delicious! Especially with the horseradish sauce they serve with it. Our party ordered the steak, chicken parmigiana, pecan chicken and the French dipped sandwich. (Make sure you order the large sandwich because the 1/2 order is way to small for a dinner portion). The food came out hot and perfectly cooked. The reason for the 4 stars and not 5 was the service was a bit slow. If you're looking for expensive bad food, you've found the right place. Stopped by today to get some takeout, and they are at WAY more than 50% capacity during Covid. Seemingly I entered a time-warp where Covid no longer existed. Once I managed to may my way through the bar area packed with non-masked individuals, I picked up my 'food'. Upon opening it at home, the french fries were soggy and disgusting. The lobster mac and cheese was dry and awful. The coleslaw was nice and warm, and tasted like it had been sitting out for a day. I tried to spit out as much as I could to avoid food poisoning. I'll update this if I wasn't successful. The entire point of getting takeout is to get better food than what I can cook myself. A dinner of Ramen would have tasted better and would have left me without a nauseated stomach. The entire experience was awful. I will never again eat in, take out, or recommend this 'restaurant' (using this term loosely as to not be disrespectful to actual restaurants that serve edible food). McDonalds fries and a mcrib are more qualified food items than this places ribs and fries. I really like the Granny Apple Pecan salad they serve here. Particularly with the raspberry vinaigrette salad dressing. I usually have the Sammy for my main meal. This is a slab of meatloaf on texas toast with mash potatoes, gravy and shaved onion straws on top. They are usually open till later on the weekends so I have gotten here as late as 9:30PM - 9:45PM and still been able to enjoy a good meal. One time my date had the power salad and she was enthused with that. My only issue is the wait staff can be spotty as far as excellent or bad service. I have sat in the bar and had a VERY nice shorter & slightly plump waitress and I have sat in the main dining room were I got crummy service from a blond lady with a pony tail. BTW, I have had the Sammy here three or four times now as my entree and normally there is a lot of mash potatoes to the point where it is hard to see the meatloaf or the texas toast. The last time I was there the amount of mash potatoes I got was WAY less than that. When I pointed it out to the waitress (the blond with the pony tail) she did not offer anything beyond a very off the cuff comment about how it must be a different cook. I am betting if it had been the nice lady in the bar I would have very shortly had a small side of additional mash potatoes delivered to my table. My husband was recently in Sharon for work, and I drove up for the night and joined him for dinner. We ended up at the Hickory Grill at his suggestion, since he remembered enjoying it in college (he went to Grove City). We walked right in on a Thursday night and sat at the bar. It is a huge space, with lots of woodland creature-inspired décor. A deer head kept us company on the wall nearby, and a bear was at the other end of the bar. Televisions were tuned to NCAA games, but not annoyingly loud. The bartender was easygoing and attentive. We started off with a Pinot Noir, a nice red wine from their brief but adequate wine list. We also ordered the chips as an appetizer, which were crispy but thin, and not as good as those at our local favorite bar. They have an extensive menu with many different options. For meals, I ordered the Teriyaki Chicken Skewers and my husband chose a salad with salmon. The chicken was fine, but not really "basted" in the sauce as proclaimed on the menu- more like they just threw some sauce on top and left it at that. The rice was boring, as were the zucchini and veggies. As my second side I had the green beans, which were crunchy and satisfying. My husband found his salad to be tasty if not mind-blowing. Overall it was an easy experience with good service. If we ever end up here again I'll try something other than the chicken. read more

We were just in town this past week, googled a place to eat in Hermitage and the Hickory Grill popped right up. Checked out the menu online before heading there, it seemed decent enough so we decided to go. Upon walking in, it's very dark, dark wood everywhere, large animal heads on just about every wall and very low lighting. The hostess was nice enough, the waitress was just ok (she only came around once to see how everything was and as we were ready to ask for our check she finally asked if we wanted refills on our drinks). I had the Pittsburgh Steak sandwich, it came with roast beef, coleslaw, fries and cheese on toasted bread. The roast beef was flavorless and extremely fatty. I opted for the coleslaw on the side, thankfully, because it was terrible! The wife got the Filet slices sandwich, she thoroughly enjoyed it, but it could have also been the Miller Lite talking. They have very few beers on tap, but apparently on Wednesday's miller lite is only $1 for a 16oz draft. Definitely would not go out of my way to go back here again. read more

The sweet potatoes while huge were not cooked and hard. The pecan and hazelnut chicken while amazing in flavor first time had a hair in it and second time was so hard to cut with a stake knife that I had to ask someone to cut my dinner for me. Needless to say after a few bites it was more exhausting to eat and chew than worth it. Also the exterior crust was mushy. The kids food came out so cold they complained - which is very rare - they will eat just about anything cold. The special pasta had so much sauce it filled half the bowl when empty with the excess sauce. Balance is certainly a word not understood. The staff was half attentive. The worst part was that with all the problems I would have expected some sort of apology - but nothing - I guess you have to be rude and obnoxious for them to care. I was prepared to give this place 3 stars... but the after show, which started at 3 am in my hotel room, knocked them down a couple of stars. The place is rather nice on the outside, and the inside is done more like a chain restaurant than a local place. However, they do an OK job with it. Service was a little slow, mostly because it seemed like they were understaffed, as the bartender was acting as a bartender, server and host. He tried his best though. I ordered the Hickory Salad, which included mixed greens, olives, tomato, fries, and cheese. Super underwhelmed. 75% of it was iceberg lettuce. I picked all of the mixed greens out, which left a large portion of the salad. I next ordered the smoked turkey reuben, which was quite good. However there were some inedible hard pieces of the turkey.. which makes me now think they may have just nuked it. Anyway, I'm pretty sure that was the culprit of my late night fun as that was the dominant taste. I wouldn't go back. The atmosphere was nice, but the food was just blah. The staff is always pleasant and you can get a solid meal, but it really is just average in my opinion. You also have to watch the menu, what they describe is not always what you get. For example, I've ordered the shrimp and grits which is supposed to have tiger shrimp which was just not at all the case. The Hickory Bar & Grille in Hermitage, PA, is part of the Springfield Restaurant Group that operates several restaurants in northwest Pennsylvania and one in northeast Ohio. One of my favorites is the Springfield Grille in Mercer that is a high tier establishment. We have visited that establishment several times and were always extremely pleased with the food, service, and ambiance. Recently on Saturday evening, we were in the general area and thought we would give the Hickory Bar & Grille a try as first time customers with high expectations. This restaurant consists of a large bar area and a separate large dinning room with a nice but unremarkable décor. It also has a "patio" that we had expected to be an outdoor area but found that it was totally enclosed and wholly unacceptable because smoking was allowed there. Although we didn't have reservations we were informed that we could be seated immediately. We opted to go to the bar where we were served well-prepared, very modestly priced drinks. Subsequently, we were seated in the main dining room. We started by sharing a shrimp cocktail that consisted of four nice-sized shrimp. Although for $6 it was inexpensive, the taste was a bit off. For her entrée my wife had the tilapia that she found to be bland. I had a cup of French onion soup and a six-ounce hamburger. Both the soup and the burger were tasty and satisfying. Our bar service was excellent, but the waitress attending our table was inexperienced. The Hickory Bar and Grille is a family restaurant. It has a friendly atmosphere and is recommended for simple fare and good drinks at reasonable prices. read more

My wife and I went there for our 30th wedding anniversary. We wanted some place nice, but not that expensive. My brother recommended the place. My wife had the chicken marsala which was very tasty. I had the delmonico steak. Steak was a good portion, however, (to my taste) was a little more medium than the medium-well that I had ordered. Still, excellent. Always avoided because the parking lot always looked ridiculously full. So I had the opportunity to go for a work function. Decor was very dark and the tables were close together. The staff was exceptionally professional and friendly. Service was quick. Food was good. I had the beer-battered fish. I had hoped to be able to eat it without the bun but whatever type it was, it was too flakey to use a fork. Certainly keep this on the list of places to go. read more
