We ate at this restaurant 12/20/14 with a party of 12. The service was fantastic and the food was even better. We ordered everything from burgers to a filet migon and everyone said it was one of the better meals that they have ever had. I have been to many steakhouses and my filet was grilled to perfection and was a meal that I will remember for a long time. When we pass though Sharon we will stop again. read more

I frequent the establishment weekly for lunch. The servers and staff are very consistent and extremely prompt and polite. If I owned a restaurant I would aspire for it to be operated in the same manner as the hickory grille. The specials change weekly and no matter what you prefer you will always find something new and interesting that your pallet will find appealing. read more

The Hickory Grille is one of the nicest restaurants in the Shenango Valley. The food is consistently good, but not, "wow! this is amazing!" great. The French Onion soup is some of the best I've ever had though. Definitely try that! The service is usually pretty slow, so be prepared for an hour or so for dinner. read more

We had a nice dinner at Hickory Bar & Grille last night with the kids. My DH had the Fireside burger which he enjoyed; I had the Smokehouse burger which was deeelish! Our son had the junior elks sirloin which he downed and our daughter had the pasta off the kids menu. The specials menu had a great selection. Our server, Rebecca was very thorough and extremely personable. The dining room's decor is turn of the century; it's very appealing. Stopped in for dinner tonight. We had the Norwegian Salmon and French Dip Sandwich. They were prepared very well. Both proteins were very flavorful. The food was not great. $6.99 for five cheesesticks? Don't bother. The burger my brother had was just awful. It had no taste, clearly no seasoning whatsoever and the bun was a joke. My rueben was bland, the bread was super soggy and the corn beef was almost non-existent. The French fries (what little they actually gave us -- maybe a handful? Maybe?) were soggy and soaked in grease. But at least they were seasoned! The burger was unforgivable. We had EXTREMELY slow service on a not-so-busy afternoon and the waitress wasn't friendly. Never apologized for our long wait. Don't recommend unless you're in a real pinch. I'm only giving it two stars because the atmosphere is REALLY nice. That's about it. So tonight my husband and I went to dinner here to celebrate getting married yesterday we had a waitress named Erica and she asked us what we wanted to drink very bluntly she said that the sweet tea was gross my husband tried it anyway and he said it was wonderful and she brought me two samples of wine neither I cared for so I just decided to stay with water she didn't seem happy about that and was very negative and snippy the rest of our time our meal comes my husbands is wonderful and most of mine is to until the BUTTER it tasted like someone dumped a whole salt shaker in it so we try to tell her about it she said that's impossible we put honey it our butter I tried to tell her even my husband tried it and said the same thing and she walks away not once but three times I am very upset that our special dinner was ruined by a snotty waitress read more

Yum yes it's good, also true that I drive 4 1/2 hours to get the best hot pretzel basket known to exist! Visiting hubby's parents we frequent this spot to indulge in hot pretzel heaven. As well as hubby getting his favorite sandwich the fillet sandwich that is usually a knock out. Bummer the fillet medallions were pounded thinner and a green herb seasoning he said took away from the flavor that had changed in the seasoning. But a server like Reva can makes things even better with great care and service with a smile. She makes sure we are well taken care of, like we are family. The place makes you feel welcome and relaxed like you are at home. We always leave knowing we will be back! I did the house chop salad and adding chicken, it was fresh and a nice size portion. Dad loves the ribs, he enjoyed them yet again and mom did the cod fish sandwich which looked perfectly cooked. Kettle chips are fantastic too! So minus a star because the fillet sandwich could use to return to its glory days and the wait list app got replaced but it didn't say that, so we got over there to find out there was a wait because the out of commission app for their place doesn't say anything about being no longer used there. Had to sort that out when we showed up. No big issues or complaints but just having had high expectations from past visits I can't ignore that mark of excellence that we have come to expect. My wife and I drive to Hermitage from Girard, OH every week for dinner, not because there aren't good places to eat in the Youngstown area, but because Hickory Grille is that good. Service is excellent, whether you're sitting at the bar, on the patio, or at a table. Reva in the bar area is an excellent server! A previous review complained about the sweet potatoes. Don't listen to them. They are the bomb and one of the reasons I love going there. They are huge, like the size of your shoe, and are always cooked perfectly. The skin just falls off, and they are caramelized just right. Salads, sandwiches and steaks are always good-love the Hickory Salad with chicken. Excellent fries and do yourself a favor, order a basket of pretzels for an appetizer, and get the fudge for dipping. It sounds odd but is so good. You won't be disappointed! The servers, hostesses and managers are all attentive, very consistently great service! read more

Went here on Jan 19th for dinner with my fiance's family. It was nice and warm. I hate when you go to a restaurant and its cold in there. Turn on the heat! They have a fire place and a very clean bathroom (like a lounge). Service was quick and efficient. A little slow getting the bill but everything else was great. The caesar salad and chicken parm were excellent. One of the best chicken parms I've had. Fresh bread. Everyone else was very happy with their meals also. Good variety for everyone. read more

First off, the food here is VERY, VERY GOOD! The service however, a totaly different story. While the waitresses are very good, the hostesses, not so much. My Wife and I along with our 3 small children (all under 4yo) stopped at this place for lunch and were made to stand in the foyer for nearly 10 minutes while the hostess/manager or whatever she was just sat on the phone. I could understand things better if the resteraunt had been full, but we got there on a weekday, literally minutes after it opened and the place was completely empty. FINALLY, she got off the phone and we were seated. I didn't hesitate in letting the phone lady know that what she did was rude, so in-turn, she went on to attempt to ruin my meal by giving me dirty looks every chance she got. I would go back, but if I knew the rude woman's name, I would call ahead to ensure she wouldn't be there. read more

Waitress was friendly, but not paying attention to our order and not checking on us in a timely fashion. She forgot lemon for the tea and didn't check back with us. Iced tea was filled to the brim - no sugar, etc. I would not be writing this review if it was just about the waitress. I ordered the salmon (with julienne veggies). I requested that it be blackened (I have had exactly this before). It arrived without anything, but the salmon on the plate. I asked the delivery person about the veggies. She was very defensive and said since I had changed the menu, they forgot the veggies which was certainly easy to understand. (Yikes!). We said ok. Not a problem and she brought them later. The salmon, even with blackening, was completely tasteless (probably too old), but we trudged on. Not a good experience and we don't come here often - our past experience has been off and on. I have been to the hickory multiple times, and my experiences have varied. The gyro and burgers have been great. The steaks will leave you with something else to be desired. I purchased the second most expensive steak one night and was very disappointed. The steak was orders to be cooked "medium" but it came out rare. The management fixed it and brought me another but the quality and taste of it was still sub par. Drinks from the bar are either on point or will give you enough time to become sober between them. When we finally were seated (in a very tight and snug booth) and served, the food was not extraordinary or worth the price. My burger was not filling and was overcooked. My mother's chicken salad only had about four cut-up pieces of chicken, definitely not worth the price of the wait. Also, the staff wasn't friendly either. OK... Feeling a little snobbish on this one, though I suspect at this locality, this probably falls under the banner of fine dining. Made me think of a locally owned Outback Steakhouse in that it's been a while since I've been to a restaurant where the main event was a big plate of meat and potatoes. I had the lamb chops, which were actually pretty moist and flavorful. The red-skinned mashed potatoes were OK; the zucchini was just plain uninspiring! They had a wine list of, shall we say, of limited proportions (just not quite a wine and cheese sort of place) and our server was borderline surly in her efforts for efficiency. Overall - a decent eatery, but I don't think I would make it a gourmet vacation destination. read more
