We were excited to try this place since it had high reviews on Yelp. I wish my experience was better. Super cute atmosphere and there is also an outdoor balcony that you can sit on. We were told upfront that they were short handed so things might be slower than usual... We didn't mind, we were there to drink their local beers and enjoy the evening. The beer was good (I ordered an Amber) and I was anxious to try another one of their brews. We ordered dinner and we all enjoyed our food. I anxiously waited for my next beer. We all finished our meals and were thinking about desert and I was still waiting for my beer. Finally, our waitress can over and asked if I still wanted my beer, that she forgot about it. By that time we were done with our experience, payed out and left. I was hoping for a wonderful experience, but after starting there for 2 hours and only one beer, my experience left me with a bitter taste. The food was good... The beer was good... Every time we drove by, it looked like the crowd at High Alpine was having a good time, so one night we stopped in for dinner. Our waiter was very friendly when he came to take our order, so we had a good first impression. That was the high water mark! After someone else brought our food, we soon noticed that a side was missing from one meal. We figured we would mention it when our waiter came by again. Not long after, I finished my beer and wanted to order another. But, it was half an hour before we saw our waiter again, and that was only to drop off our check as he was walking by. Everyone's drink was empty by that point. It's safe to say we expected better service. And, while the food was okay, it wasn't compelling enough to warrant a second chance. read more

Ate there last night on our hiking weekend. Really good beer selection to start, and some beer/vodka cocktails. The hazy IPA had had an excellent flavor attack. Paul and I stopped for lunch at High Alpine on our way to Colorado Springs. We arrived just past Noon on a Wednesday and had no trouble finding a seat. What I liked about Alpine: friendly service, clean restrooms, the spinach salad, housemade dressings (I chose the balsamic), and the Montagna pizza. The crust is super thin, so it goes quickly. This is where a salad comes in handy. What I didn't like: uncushioned wooden chairs that are hard on the back and rear, restrooms without a hook upon which to hang a bag, and paying via Square whilst the server observed her tip being entered. My biggest problem with High Alpine Brewing Company, is that they aren't actually a Brewing Company. Their website listed all of the beers they're supposed to make, but every time you go in, they tell you that they haven't started brewing yet. They do get some stars though because the beers they do bring in are pretty tasty, if a little overpriced. They also have fairly decent food as well. I'm ready for Gunnison to have a brewery again, so maybe when they actually start brewing I'll be back. read more

They have a nice selection of Colorado beers and wines and cocktail ideas with a twist, like the Grapefruit margarita and Alpine mule in the proper mugs They have their own brewery on premises,as well. I was impressed with their design elements that include a cool and clean ambience all the way down to purse hooks and electrical plugs under the bar. Very modern yet with an authentic historic feel. The 2 story brick walls are hung with gorgeous photos of mountainous vistas. The owners are working the bar and seen like friendly, easygoing professionals. Outstanding find for yummy appetizers and 4-6 happy hour most days. Sunday's have happy hour all day. The traditional Pizza oven is amazing. read more

My wife and I stopped here for lunch today on our way to Glenwood Springs from Texas, and it was average. The service was slow and they weren't even busy, the food and drinks were overpriced, and we were sat right next to a big family when the rest of the place was empty. My only complaint is a couple of the waitresses are pretty rude (seems to be the early morning mostly), especially when I tip them 3-4$ for a TO-GO order. Make eye contact, treat single customers with as much enthusiasm as a 4 person party. The waitress I had made no eye contact and didn't seem to hardly care at all that I was ordering food from the place she worked. Not really hard to ask of that in a service industry. Pretty good beer, but avoid the "bratwurst" at all costs. It's more like a salty sausage than a true brat. The accompanying mustard was a disappointment as well. This is the first brat I've ever ordered and not eaten. To make matters worse our server seemed nonplussed when told that the brat was inedible. Made another trip through Gunnison last month and stopped at the brewery again, hoping for another great experience. We were not disappointed. The staff there is over the top, especially considering the staffing issues that bars, restaurants and breweries are facing these days. I think that says a lot about the ownership and management. Katie (Kate?) was our server and she was superb. Very nice, very helpful. The pizza is top notch and the beer selection splendid. Worst customer service experience I have ever had anywhere!!! After 13 hours of driving from SoCal, I thought we'd take a break for a sit-down dinner experience and unwind before we continued our trip. Tired and hungry. Started off okay as we got seated immediately. Didn't wait forever to get our orders taken. After that, it all went down the toilet. Note there is a significant point to what we ordered --- sandwich, salad, pizza, and appetizer. Server asked if we wanted our appetizer out first which we did. Waited over half an hour for just the appetizer and only because I asked the server about the status of our food. Waited another 25 minutes (and note the server NEVER checked on us) before I got ahold of the server and asked why the food was taking nearly an hour. She got defensive and borderline rude saying, "It's not my fault and it's not the kitchen's fault. It's just taking a while." Given her poor attitude I had to tell her we we're cancelling the rest of our order and only paying for the appetizer. We had nearly 4 more hours left on our road trip and had to get going. On the way out I ran into the manager who basically asked what happened and I explained the whole story. On the one hand, he was polite and listened nicely. On the other, he did nothing to make us happy. There was an excuse that the one small pizza oven the kitchen uses has limited capacity and they had a lot of other pizza orders in the queue. Would have been nice if our server and the manager had a clue about pizza orders taking an extraordinarily long time. Instead we sat there like idiots wondering why our food was taking so long. How about giving us heads up about the long queue of pizza orders and give us a chance to change our order if pizza was going to take more than an hour. It was really kind of sad to experience this snotty server who copped the attitude because she clearly had no understanding of the concept of customer service. She treated us like we were an inconvenience to her. Is it too much to ask to train your staff on how to treat customers and how to handle difficult situations? Bottom line is, I can't tell what the food was like, except for the somewhat boring hummus plate, because we never got it. The place obviously does a good amount of business in beer sales, but food service appears to be an after thought......and customer service not a thought at all. So Owner, Scott C., before you offer a useless apology and tell me this experience doesn't represent how your establishment is otherwise run, save your breath and keystrokes. Your energy would be better spent first firing the snotty server (trust me....she's useless....I watched her) and training the rest to get on their game and doing right by the customer. read more

Since E is from Gunny and his parents still live here, we visit town pretty often (although not as often as I'd like!). We went to the Gunnison Brewery a few times when it was open, but never really loved it. So when High Alpine opened after Gunnison Brewery had closed down, we were excited to give it a try! Apparently, they didn't have their own beer on tap when they first opened, but on our first visit last weekend they had plenty of their own brews - many of them delicious! We stopped by twice. The first visit, we got a sample of most of the beers, including the Curecanti chile beer, Italian Mountain basil ale, Anthracite Amber, Aberdeen chocolate maple porter, Sol's espresso stout, and the Green Gate IPA. Of them all, I thought I'd enjoy the maple porter the most but, although tasty, was definitely not my favorite. I actually preferred the IPA, bursting with lots of citrus hops, and the Amber, which was just a nice mellow beer. Runners-up were the basil ale (perfect for summer) and the espresso stout (so rich and decadent!). Also, not a chile beer fan here, but E thought theirs was one of the best he's had. Our second visit, we took E's parents out for lunch and enjoyed a tasty hummus plate (LOVED the flatbread and all the fresh veggies - the hummus was good but a little spicy) and two pizzas, the Mountaineer and the Pig n' Fig. The Mountaineer is for meat lovers, and loaded with pepperoni and sausage, but I absolutely loved the Pig n' Fig. Disclaimer about this pizza: The fam has been traveling to CB for years to indulge in the Notorious F.I.G. at the Secret Stash but I gotta say, the Pig n' Fig is definitely **the** best fig pizza I've ever eaten. Not too salty, not too sweet, and the arugula and balsamic reduction drizzle on top really lighten it up. SUCH a good pizza. All of their pizzas are baked in an Italian tiled wood oven, with a nice, thinner crust. Overall, I can't wait to eat and drink here again. This place is a fabulous addition to Gunny and just what this town needed!! P.S. The upper patio is absolutely killer, and the interior is gorgeous! read more

My husband and I were traveling Colorado and found this place on yelp while passing through. We ordered a flight of every beer on tap and enjoyed every single one. Even the styles we normally don't go far! They had a good variety and something for all palettes. We also had a pizza and it was the best pizza we've ever had in the U.S. We went to Italy for our honeymoon so we know our Pizza! The Margarita pizza we ordered was reminiscent of the best pizza we've ever had from the region where buffalo mozzarella originated. Love this place and hope to come back someday! read more

The wait-staff were so helpful and friendly (maybe the best I've ever had anywhere); the atmosphere is relaxed, rustic, and clean. My meal was amazing!!! There were five people in our party and we all said our meal was the best. Oh, and their brews was delicious! They also do this cool thing where we bought one of their ice pick blades and we all signed it and they screw it on the wall-the proceeds go to the ice climbing club. read more
