I've been to several local brewing companies in Colorado but this fairly modest one might just be my favorite. Their loft-style upper deck opens out with a balcony onto the street, however you can sit at a bar counter on the main level if you prefer. I noticed that the vibe was welcoming to all, not just a demographic of mountain-adventure thrill seekers (who look like they have just stepped off their mountainbikes to quench their thirst.) There were several tables of women with children, and all rubbed elbows in a pleasant manner. Our servers appeared to be college-age and were sweet. The selection of beers was not overwhelming. We are able to observe the brewing area and vats in back, behind their open kitchen, from our upper deck vantage point. They have hoppy ales, amber/dark porters, and lighter summer fare. I selected a basil influenced "Italian style" mountain ale which was brilliantly balanced. So many breweries play such a heavy hand on ecclectic and odd flavors that I was pleased with the balanced yet fresh bite on this excellent summer beer. My companion got a wild rasperry ale from a neighboring Colorado brewery on tap. (The restaurant serves a selection of five in-house brewed beers on tap). A great selection of pizzas are available, like the beers, at $1 off during happy hour which ends on weekdays at 6:00 p.m. We selected one with pickled red onions and bacon offset on bbq-based sauce and using chicken and cheese. It was delicious, with crispy crust, and a perfect foil for our beers. The speed at which they brought out a perfectly crusted pizza was astonishing. Their oven is hard at work and its obvious there is some expertise in the kitchen here. They are a historic building with brick walls and massive wooden support beams. The noise can bounce a bit off the walls especially as this is a cavernous warehouse type of architecture. This modest brewing house might just be a new favorite haunt in western Colorado. read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! BURNT PIZZA!!! SOGGY SALAD!!!! This was one of the best slices on the pizza and it still has burnt bits all over it. My partner and I walked in about 5 minutes after 8 on a Saturday night and the entire staff treated us like we were the biggest inconvenience of the night. We order almost immediately because we really get the feeling they want to close early. Their posted closing time is 10pm and by this time it's barely 8:30. Before our pizza comes out we notice the cook standing near the bar just staring at the people at the bar and snickering with the bartender and hostess. The pizza comes out and because we've gotten the feeling they want to close early we don't say anything about the pizza but the staff definitely knew, they didn't even ask us if we enjoyed it. At 9 they shut off the music and turned off all the tvs with people still finishing their plates. My partner wrote a review and the owner emailed my partner telling him he must not understand they serve BURNT PIZZA it's "Neapolitan style" he said. The owner, Scott, also stated we must not have been at his establishment... look at the coaster Scott. This burnt disgusting pizza and horrible service is definitely your establishment! He is also commenting on peoples reviews dismissing their experiences and not trying to make it better. Good beer and good pizza--one of my favorite combinations. High Alpine Brewing Company didn't let us down on either one. Our service was very good as well--all in a very pleasant atmosphere. We sat on the deck in some perfect August afternoon weather. One pizza for two would probably be enough, but we were hungry and didn't want to take any chances. Anyway, we each ordered a pizza and had some left over to take home. Mary had the Pig and Fig while I had the Mountaineer--both were really good. We were a bit surprised that the menu was just salads and pizza--no burgers or sandwiches. But there are other places in town for that. I was super excited when I learned there was a cool brewery in this cute little town, when I entered there was an amazing rock band of young adults, the brewery was full of cool people and the decor on point, but they really need to step their beer game up. I order two different beers and 2 out of 2 were not good, they had a weird aftertaste, and I didn't want to take the chance of another bad one so I just called it a night. We stumbled upon this beautiful brewery while driving through Gunnison. Everything from the service to the ambiance the drinks and the food was absolutely amazing!! All of the food is sustainably sourced from local farms and the beer is made in house as well. We enjoyed the Beet salad and it was so fresh I think it was just picked from the garden. Our first time in Gunnison which we were using as a Basecamp to explore CB and Blue Mesa/Curecanti. I'd heard good things about this brewery and was intrigued by the basil beer. We arrived for dinner and drinks around 6pm and were lucky to find a spot at the bar. The service was attentive and very friendly. We started with a flight and I got the green IPA. We were blown away by the quality of the beers. The brown sour was actually sour but didn't have a lingering taste which we liked. The IPAs (there were two) each were hoppy but with different tastes. For instance the hazy IPA was more fruity and the green was more bitter. Perhaps the biggest suprise was the coffee stout. As we currently live in Douglas County we were familiar with Crowfoot Coffee and this stout had their espresso. This was my favorite beer and I am not normally a stout drinker. We ordered the charcuterie appetizer which was huge with several types of cheese and meats. The raspberry cheese and duck were purchased favorites. We also got a pizza to share and enjoyed it. We were fortunate to meet the owner, Scott, who was friendly and very personable. It was great to see him helping behind the bar...cleaning, emptying the dishwasher, restocking and generally assisting the staff. We enjoyed our meal here and are already planning a trip back for the winter. If you are in the area, I highly recommend a meal here. The prices were very reasonable and we haven't found a brewery with such high quality of both beers and food before this one. read more

Wowza! Loved the pizza! The sister and I both ordered the mountaineer. Flavors were on point and the crust was amazing. Only took about 15 minutes from order to delivery. Service was great! Would have rated a five star except for the following: Difficulty turning over tables. Approximately 45 - 55 minute wait and tables remained open after customer departure for as long as 15 minutes before next party seated. It was a plate of fresh mozzarella, ale infused cherries, roasted tomatoes and dried figs serves with some crispy bread. I had the half Red and Blue salad with a honey mustard dressing that had quite a kick! Sweet, spicy and delicious. You could tell the dressings were made in house. Due to weather in Denver, we were detoured to Gunnison. Little town in Colorado... We asked our hotel shuttle driver if he had any recommendations for food, and he directed us to High Alpine brewing. Arrived at Alpine Brewing, and found a neat little brew pub with bar seating and even a second floor balcony set up. Looking at the menu, there were many small plates that sounded interesting. I started of with the special Pesto and Goat cheese stuffed mushrooms. They were absolutely delicious!!! I looked at the pizza menu...and more appetizers and finally asked the person next to me if they had a recommendation since she was a local. She recommended the sliced roast beef pizza and the bartender suggested the smoked trout dip. So I ordered both (since I dont see myself coming back to Gunnison any time soon). The trout dip was good, but a bit too much dip and not enough trout for my liking. The Crostinis were baked perfectly. Then the pizza came. The crust was baked to perfection. The toppings were a wonderful combination... The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5... 45 minute wait for a cold appetizer, that's a bit long... so as long as you are not hurry or just out for a good beer... this is definitely the place to go. read more
