Absolutely disgraceful customer service from both the owner and the cashier at Pino's Pies. "If you don't like it, go to Mammoth!" PLUS they said they would give me credit then did not. Today my son and I ordered three different meat pies, and I ordered--and paid $7.75 for--a large, 16-ounce hot dirty chai tea. I also asked for a separate cup of ice because I wanted to drink some of the chai hot and pour some over ice. Instead, they gave me a small chai and a large cup filled with ice. When I pointed out that this was not what I had ordered or paid for, the thin grey haired owner told me to "pour the small chai over the ice" and--presto--it would become a large, 16-ounce drink. How stupid do they think their customers are? Do they discriminate against white 65 year old women? Apparently. Ice does not magically turn a small chai into the large chai I paid for. It merely waters down a smaller amount of tea. I ordered a LARGE HOT CHAI and a cup of ice--not a small chai disguised as a large drink by filling the rest of the cup with frozen water. When I calmly objected, the owner and cashier became shockingly rude and hostile. Rather than simply correcting their mistake, I was told by the tall, straggly dark haired cashier, "That's the way we do it here. If you don't like it, you can go to Mammoth or go somewhere else. Fuck off and get the fuck out of here." That is an outrageous way to treat a paying customer--especially one who had just purchased three meat pies along with an overpriced $7.75 chai. PLUS TIP! Total bill? $49.72. As of this writing, the credit he supposedly issued has not been issued at my bank. When I asked him for the last four numbers of the card for the refund, he gave me the wrong last four of MY credit card number. I said no, my last four digits are XXXX. He said he gave me the credit and "get the fuck out of here!" and no proof of the credit. He was so tightly strung, I left as I didn't know what his next move would be. I contacted my bank as as of this writing NO CREDIT has been given. I will reverse the whole charge if I'm not credited by the end of today. I was not being difficult or unreasonable. I simply expected to receive the size I ordered and paid for. The owner and cashier could not have been more arrogant, insulting, or unprofessional. If this is "the way they do it here," then customers should take their money somewhere else. I certainly will and we will make sure the USC snow ski team is enlightened as we both were on it and know plenty of amazing people up here who don't deserve to be treated this way. read more

What a place!!! My family and I visited Pino Pies after a trip to June Lake because it was recommended by quite a few people online. We went in not knowing what to expect, but we were so glad that we did. The food and drinks were amazing. I ordered the lentil and mushroom pie and wow, I could honestly eat it every day for the rest of my life. Even on a hot summer day, it really hit the spot. This place is amazing! We came here on a Friday after hearing about this place and we liked it so much we came back on Saturday and also bought some frozen pies to take home. The crust is perfectly flaky and buttery, not too flaky and not too buttery and is the perfect thickness and texture for accentuating the fillings inside. But what makes these standout is the fillings. They're an explosion of perfectly balanced flavors, and you can really tell that they were made with care. We talked to the owner and he says he sources his ingredients locally which we really appreciate, he says the beef is from a ranch near Bishop and he also gets bones to boil the beef stock to make the gravies. We tried pretty much every flavor they had, every single flavor was superb but personally here's how I rank the pies: 1) Lamb - Lamb is often tough or gamey, but this lamb was neither. Each chunk was moist and tender and perfectly seasoned. The gravy it was in was phenomenal. If you like lamb or are even just okay on lamb this is a must try. 2) Steak - Besides just meat, the inside of the steak was more like a shepherd's pie. There was peas and potatoes, and the meat was perfect. 3) Ground Beef and cheese - The beef had a really nice deep flavor, you can taste it's high quality ground beef. 4) Butter chicken - This is a hot take because I think he said butter chicken is one of their most popular flavors, and I can see why. The chicken is perfectly cooked and the flavor is great. 5) Lentil - Okay this one was actually really good, I'm just a meat eater so of course it's going to be bottom of my list but if you're just going to get two I think this pairs well with the lamb. The sausage roll was also really good, the sausage was not some cheap sausage there was real meaty flavor to it. If you have the room in your stomach I would definitely add on a sausage roll. My husband and I were spending Thanksgiving week in June Lake, and stumbling across Pino Pies was one of the best surprises of the trip. They were even open on Thanksgiving Day, which felt like such a treat. We picked up the berry pie, the breakfast pie, and the ground beef & cheddar, and every one of them was incredible. The ground beef and cheddar tasted like the most delicious, beefy, perfectly seasoned burger wrapped in a golden crust. Total comfort food. The berry and apple pies were like a warm hug--fruity, cozy, and not overly sweet. Just the right balance where you can really taste the fruit. And the crust... wow. Exactly what you hope for in a pie crust: light, flaky, buttery, crisp, and definitely no soggy bottom. It melts in your mouth but still holds everything together. Came to this little gem of a place after a full morning of snowboarding on June Mountain. And may I say...it did not disappoint ‍. It has both inside and outside area to eat. We were greeted by a very nice lady at the front counter with a welcoming smile and gave us the gist of selections. It was savory, cheesy goodness seasoned just right all engulfed in a beautifully baked, flakey, breading that was 10/10. 2nd the pork sausage. It was just baked and hot out the oven. The sausage tastes like a breakfast sausage wrapped in a buttery flakey roll. Both meat pastries were demolished amongst 4 of us. Perfect little snack for us since we had dinner reservations later.... However, we were so impressed we took some premade frozen meat pies for the road to be enjoyed later. They serve some coffee drinks which I ordered (iced oat-milk vanilla latte) and tasted wonderful. They also have a handful of desserts which I want to come back and try out in the summer.
