This is Ramstein brewery. Went on a Saturday afternoon around 4pm (it closes at 6pm) and it was super quiet. I ordered the blonde beer and it was quite tasty though not super cold. The staff was lovely. The inside is quiet small so we decided to sit outside. There are tables outside and they are definitely trying to give you a beer garden feel but really you are sitting in the parking lot. They don't serve food but they do have menus from local places that will deliver. read more

Greg is an award winning brewer who trained and brewed professionally in southern Germany. The malts, hops and yeasts used to make Ramstein beers are imported directly from Bavaria. A special yeast used in brewing Ramstein beers was obtained from a small Bavarian brewery. Ramstein is the name of a small town in Bavaria. Ramstein produces 8 year round beers, 4 seasonal beers, and 1 ynique limited beer called "Eisbock". I tasted several beers in one ounce shots, no charge for tasting, before selecting "Northern Hills Amber Lager" from the tap. This is Ramstein brewery. The service was outstanding. I asked to try and the guy on Saturday explained all the brews available. I tried the pickleback pilsner. It was so good, I had a mug of it. And I took a 1L growler home of it. It's a Pilsner with a hint of pickles in it. Sounds gross but it actually is very good. The mug was $6. The growler purchase was $22 and $8 to fill with pickleback. And I left a 15% tip. The ambiance is that of a quaint German brewpub with tables and a bar top. I will finish this growler and keep it empty in my car for the next time. I recommend this place and will be back. I used to stop here many years ago and the service and beer remain the same five stars. They are also working on bringing food in. Finally I made it to Ramstein / High Point Brewing. But they are open pretty much every day of the week, so it really shouldn't have taken so long to get there. They are one of the original breweries in NJ that existed before the craft beer boom, along with Flying Fish, Cricket Hill, River Horse, and Climax. When I drove into Butler, NJ I was pleasantly surprised how nice the town is. It almost doesn't feel like NJ. It feels almost like a charming industrial town in Ohio. The brewery itself is located inside a really cool 19th century rubber mill building. The atmosphere is like no other brewery in NJ. They have a regular crowd of guys, too, and everyone is chatty and welcoming. I thought the service was top notch. Apparently they change their beers seasonally. It's summer now, so they had only lightly colored ones. So, the flip-side of this is that most of them pretty much just taste the same. I have to say that I really only enjoyed the lagers. Not many breweries in NJ brew lagers because they have to be stored 6-7 weeks, instead of ales, which is just 2-3. So, it's a treat for me to sample lagers. Of the beers I tasted, they actually did not remind me so much of the beers I drank in Germany when I lived there. This is not craft beer here either. I would call the beers, "German/Import Inspired." But it's still a fun experience overall, and I would go there more frequently if I lived closer. read more

Greg is often behind the bar and he told me when he was training in germany to become a brewmeister he asked for a sample of yeast to take back to the states and he did just that. If you know Ramstein beers, you know High Point Brewing. HP specializes in delicious, true to German-style beers. Previously, I'd had their beers on tap elsewhere and seen them at beer festivals, but it was nice to finally sit at their bar and enjoy a few with their brewery in the background. Prices are super reasonable. Bring your own growler for a fill or buy one from the brewery: $5 for a clear glass 1 liter or $20 for a German 1 liter. NJ Craft Beer members can enjoy $2 off a growler fill Monday through Friday. They also have kegs and sixtels for purchase. You can't go wrong with their Dunkel or Blonde, but my favorite is their Ink, a delicious schwarzbier that's great with food or on its own. Of course, they also put out a delicious IPA, but If you're missing Deutschland you need to visit High Point Brewing! read more

High Point is a 15-barrel brewery that has been brewing uber traditional German-style beers since 1996, offering different seasonal beers thru the year including lagers and pilsners in addition to their awesome unfiltered and filtered wheat beers. Extraordinarily friendly people and excellent session beers. The Ramstein tap room is small, noisy, a tad hard to find and rather warm in the summer. But the beer quality makes up for it! Flight of five 6oz pours is just $10! Tours are only given selected Saturdays but if you ask nicely you can get a quick glimpse behind the scenes. Even have their own bottling line. When we visited there was a Summer Bock lager but alas no pilsners. The dark Doppelbock wheat beer was outstanding, a little strong at 9+%. Have to admit I wasn't a fan of their double platinum hefeweizen, just too spicy for me. Need to come back when the Oktoberfest beer is back in the Fall. BYO food. They put out bowls of little pretzels which helps tremendously. Yeah the names are confusing - operating as High Point, labeling the product Ramstein. On our (brief) tour Greg Z. explained he wanted to open in High Point NJ but due to the critical lack of infrastructure (like gas & water) he opted for the industrial park. This brewery was recommended to me and I figured I would stop in while I was up in this area. It's a big confusing to find since it's in a large complex in what looks like a former factory. There's a few tables and a bar inside and flights are insanely cheap, right around $2 for a 6 oz pour. The beers are all German styles and many of them were very good. I can't believe I've been here so many times and haven't yet left a review. This is one of my favorite breweries in the area, and it's because they're not super trendy. Many breweries chase trends, and while some flights of fancy can be entertaining, it's always nice to come back to the more traditional styles. For the uninitiated, High Point brews traditional German style beers, and they do it better than most German breweries themselves! You're not going to find a better Schwarzbier, Pilsener, Weizen, Bock, or anything else they turn out. Their Oktoberfest is well known and so popular they brew it for 3 months continuously and even then it can be hard to get your hands on sometimes! They also have some limited releases such as Eisbock, as well as others released at big open house events that are not to be missed. What a cute hole in the wall!!! I don't live around this area but my friends had asked me to meet up at this spot a couple of times, so when I did I didn't realize it would be a factory looking building but a small and cute brewery. I was recently here for an open tap that was $20 for three hours. The beer tastes great as well! My favorite is the double platinum. It's a very chill spot especially because you can bring your dogs to this brewery. The staff is very friendly too! Offered snacks and let us do a flight of beer just to try everything before we ordered so that was also cool. It's also not expensive at all so we didn't break bank. How did I not know that such an awesome brewery was a few miles down the road from me!!! I came here yesterday for their seasonal event where they were debuting the Ramstein Winter Wheat Dopplebock! I got there twenty minutes early and there was a line out the door thirty plus people deep. Most of the people on line had empty growlers of all different sizes. As I was waiting on line I got a certain feeling of excitement that I got as a kid waiting on line for a roller coaster at an amusement park. When they opened the doors there was a guy giving out two tickets for samples. Their samples are a descent size probably a third of a beer. I tried a sample of the Blonde Wheat Ale which was very, very good. Next stop was to purchase one if their awesome growlers. They had various sized growlers 1 liter, 2 liter, and I think 750ml. I figured why not go for the gusto and get the 2 liter. The 2 liter growler was forty dollars, which may seem a little high but it is truly a beautiful growler (See picture). They then asked which beer I would like, I got the Winter Wheat Dopplebock which they told me was the most expensive. Twenty dollars for 2 liters of a Dopplebock seemed like a steal to me! Then they let people walk around and check out the brewery. In the back they had a bar set up with sample room style tables were you could get you next sample or purchase a drink. On a few hours on Saturday and I think during the week you can get your growlers refilled and or hang out and get a drink. All I can say is that I'm very excited to come back and refill my growler with fresh beer straight from the brewery! read more

Initially wanted to give this place a 4 1/2 mainly because it's SO hot in their tap room, however, it's a small local microbewery and their space is small and it would be totally unfair to take away because of that. They don't have "tours" however if you ask, they will show you the space. We had Daren show us around and he was extremely informative and really made the experience a memorable one! Their flights are SUPER cheap $10, and they're 6oz pours. They have table games scattered around the tap room which is always fun and 6-7 tables. We came on a Saturday afternoon and while the place was full, it was not crowded and there was sitting room for everyone. So I went here for one of their saturday tastings for a friends birthday. Let me tell you this place is pretty cool. They take you in give you coupons to sample beer and show ya and explain how they make it. If you like beer its probably worth the afternoon espcially since they dont charge your for the samples and tour. Also you can purchase growlers from this place and get them filled. I think it was 8 bucks for a normal brew and 12 for a special brew. Totally worth it for very fresh beer. Check it out sometime. read more

If you are looking for a nice local brewery, I think this is a great one to check out. It is poised in a great location as an oasis where the craft beer scene is slightly lacking. I really enjoyed the winter wheat and blonde beer that I tried. They had a game on the TV and there were other pleasant patrons who were happy to hang out and watch as well. They have a wood-burning stove to supplement the heaters and it gives the place a nice hint of cozy on a cold winter day. There are tours on certain days and they do special releases of beers as well. There are growlers for sale and they will refill for a fair price too. The two bartenders were knowledgeable about the company and the beer and the brewing process so it was fun to talk to them. They don't currently sell food, but they have a few snacks behind the bar and they have a food book with menus from the local places that will deliver to the bar. read more

The female bartender could not have been nicer or a more gracious hostess. She served us up a flight (and we're beer snobs- she poured everything with the perfect head!!) Hard to spot brewery with great beer - feels like a German beer hall when you're walking in. Had a fun day Saturday here with a bunch of friends and definitely enjoyed the beer - they have a few different ones on tap, but the two we had the Double Platinum Blonde and their Golden Lager - both were super tasty. The Lager was surprisingly very low in alcohol content, and tastes very smooth (a lighter Yuengling, but doesn't sacrifice the flavor). The Blonde was just an overall great tasting beer - smooth without a bitter aftertaste. Their main 'bar' area is fairly small with a few high top tables and one small TV pretty high up on the wall. The smell is not the greatest in this place - you can definitely smell the brewing, which is musky and stays fairly hot/humid in the place. There was a fundraiser of some sort going on when we were there, but their back area where the actual brewing happens is a pretty large and open room where guests can also hang out. This place also goes by Ramstein. Overall a solid little gem in Butler. read more

Their Oktoberfest is one of the best in the country (take Beer Advocate's word if you don't believe mine), and their Double Platinum Blonde is by far their best year-round brew. The brewery tour, held once a month, is packed (free beer tastings!) but one of the best tours I've been on. The place isn't large by any means, but their tasting room is nice and so are the people.
