It was a bit busy, but I managed to pop a squat at the bar like a champ! The bartender was super friendly (kicking myself for not catching her name). I started with a lemon drop and WOW... 10/10, perfectly tart, perfectly dangerous. Naturally, I trusted her with a second drink that wasn't pictured because I got too excited and forgot to take one. It was her specialty and tasted like a gummy bear in the best way possible. Sweet, smooth, and gone way too fast. Great vibes, great drinks, and even better service! I stay at the JW for work a lot, so it's usually a choice between High Velocity and Dean's. I want to love High Velocity--I really do. I've given it several chances, and I'm still waiting for that "I'd order this again" dish. This visit, the club sandwich was... fine. Perfectly acceptable, but not exactly memorable. The bigger miss? Lunch with my boss started out great because the TVs were quiet enough to actually have a conversation. Then the volume got cranked up to sports-bar-on-game-day levels. We asked two different servers if it could be turned down and got brushed off both times. I love staying at the JW. Dinned here a couple time while at a conference at the JW Marriott Indianapolis. You can make lunch and dinner reservations via OpenTable and would recommend. The restaurant gets conference traffice from the JW and the Convention Center, as well as locals and hotel guests. Food was good. I will say one lunch shocked me, it was $42 for a salad w/grilled chicken, and a mineral water. I had the chopped cob and recommend the grilled chicken to be added, not the fried. I tried them both on two different occasions and the grilled complemented the salad much better. I wanted something light both these times so for the price could have gone with a burger or another option and I may have been happier. Service was good. Food was good. My husband had a convention to attend this week so we went to High Velocity for lunch. We went because it's so convenient to walk across the sky bridge and not have to go outside on a cold day. We arrived right at noon and were seated immediately. We decided to get an appetizer and an entrée and just split it. We ordered the nachos ($23) with the sour cream, guacamole and jalapeños on the side. They looked great when they arrived, but once you pulled off the first layer of cheese all of the chips were broken, and it was just tiny pieces of chip that you can't even pick up. The chili was so greasy that there was just grease all in the bottom of the plate and made all of the chips soggy. We didn't not eat much of them. For our entrée, we ordered the fish and chips ($23) The fish was listed as cod. The fish was very watery like it had been frozen. We didn't not like it. The outside was soggy on the bottom. Our waitress came by and checked on us after we were done eating and we told her about the nachos and that we didn't like the fish either. She apologized and we told her it wasn't her fault she didn't cook the meal. She brought us our $50 bill. We paid it and left. It would've been nice if she would've asked us if everything was OK while we were eating our appetizer and we probably would've gotten wings or something different to try because the nachos were not edible. We went to Harry & Izzy's for lunch the other day and our meal was also $50 and it was amazing. We should had went back there. Don't waste your money at High Velocity just because it was convenient to get there! read more

High Velocity is the restaurant/bar connected to the JW Marriott. While I love my annual visit to the hotel, this restaurant does not match its quality and standards for customer service. The hotel lobby bar was under construction and this forced us to only gather here. There's a main bar in the center and also a smaller bar in the right-hand corner. Bar seating is limited, and while the restaurant tables are empty they do not want paying customers to use them. Bartenders produced solid drinks and the customer service you'd from a busy team. We got our orders fairly quick. The other servers ... completely bothered by the crowd's presence. Over the 5 nights I was there, I watched eye rolling, "mom" voices, and clear rudeness to customers. I have empathy when one is dealing with a customer that's consumed too much alcohol and is being disruptive, but in our situation it was co-workers and professionals catching up because we live states away from one another. It is a complete conflict to experience such wonderful customer service from the hotel team right outside the door of High Velocity while the same can't be repeated in its restaurant. JW Marriott should rethink this space and how it lowers their brand. read more

High Velocity was in the lobby of our hotel and was able to get our group seated right away, even on a busy Friday night. We had about 13 people in our group and we were all able to sit close by each other which was nice. The only thing I regret is not taking pictures of my amazing food. I had the French toast and I tried one of my friends pancakes and I'm usually not a pancake person, but I actually liked the pancakes more than the French toast. In my travels this year, I was a guest at the JW Marriott hotel in Downtown Indianapolis. The High Velocity Sports Bar is adjacent to the hotel lobby. It was a convenient dining option without leaving the building. For this reason, I dined there twice. Note: This is a cashless restaurant. You must pay with a debit/credit card or bill it to your hotel room. Both times the restaurant was understaffed to support the volume of diners here for our convention. I'll give grace for the wait on the first day. On the second day, we waited literally over an hour for our bill and pretty much were held hostage to our table. We resorted to calling the restaurant to ask for a manager to come to our table. We just wanted to get our bill, pay and leave to return to our conference across the street at the Indianapolis Convention Center. The food was good. The first day I chose Chicken Mediterranean Salad. We were a party of four. The second day I chose the Taco Salad which was just okay. I'm not usually one to leave reviews, but the service I experienced today was unacceptable. From the moment my friend and I approached the stand to order a drink, we were met with eye rolls and an unwelcoming attitude from the staff--particularly one woman with gray hair and another with short, curly black hair. Although we were standing outside the taped lines, we were told we were "in the way" in a tone that was unnecessarily rude and dismissive. We remained polite throughout the interaction, but the staff treated us as if we were a burden. The overall attitude and lack of basic customer service were truly disappointing. I asked if they have a big ice cube for it (my never-fail trick to determine if a bar knows how to make a good old fashioned), and the waitress confirmed. We ordered old fashioneds. I shared the dip trio with a friend which was delicious, the chips were seasoned and seemed homemade. The Southwest Chicken Sandwich was yummy as well! Our food came out pretty fast. It took a while to get our checks, despite it clearing out after the lunch rush. Our waiter may have just seen us engaged in conversation and not wanted to interrupt, so it would have been fine if we weren't in a hurry. I've eaten here every year I come to this hotel. I definitely recommend making a reservation. We were there for a conference and it tends to be difficult to get a table without a long wait. It's an open atmosphere with several TVs to watch the game or anything your heart desires. When I checked in I was able to get 15% discount on the meal and they honored this discount so that was exciting. I ordered the Cajun Shrimp Penne Pasta. I also added mushrooms. It had a lot of powerful flavor. The cherry tomatoes, red onions, and green peppers that were in the base of the sauce definitely added to the taste and cut some of the cheesy parmesan cream sauce. I will say there's more sauce than shrimp and pasta. Since I added mushrooms that definitely added to this delicious dish. So if you are near JW Marriott Indianapolis, you should stop by and try High Velocity. read more

High Velocity is the Marriot sports bar, and it definitely has a sports bar vibe. I found the menu and cocktails to be pretty overpriced - drinks were not as good as at the lobby bar (same cocktails, same price but Velocity didn't quite meet the mark) and the food was awful. The vibe was frat house meets tailgating, and while that definitely has its place (and we are literally blocks away from multiple major sports), I have a hard time spending $$$ on a not great cocktail and soggy quesadillas. Avoid the quesadillas. Pros: if you're looking for high energy and a beer, this is the place for you. It does have a well-sized bar and tons of tvs. Not sure if they take reservations, but noticed they frequently had a wait so it's clear other people enjoyed it more than me. My recommendation is to check out the other bar/restaurant. read more
