High velocity is a restaurant inside the JW Marriott downtown Indy. I was introduced to this restaurant by yelp during an event and they have so many great options in a spread for us. Particularly their wings. They are reasonably priced and the service is good. They are good for large parties and they carry top shelf alcohol as well. This visit I had the Cajun shrimp tacos. Located inside the JW Marriott I wasn't expecting a lot of options while staying here for work. I was pleasantly surprised by the options available. I went for lunch and dinner my first day in town because I didn't have the energy to leave to look for food. At lunch I had the Mediterranean salad with chicken. Great flavor and a huge portion that I couldn't finish. After working most of the day in my room I came down for a late dinner and ordered the chicken tenders and fries. The tenders were very crispy and had nice flavor. I enjoyed the honey mustard dipping sauce more than the BBQ but both were good. I was staying the the hotel for a conference and there weren't a lot of options nearby. I opted for takeout because I didn't want to pay the delivery fee and automatic 22% gratuity if you ordered through room service. The first day I ordered a chicken barbecue sandwich that was a special and recommended by the hostess. The chicken was dry but the sauce was ok. I sat at the bar while I waited for my food and paid $13 for a glass of beer. The next two nights, I ordered the fish and chips for takeout which was good! 3 large pieces of fish that was moist with crunchy batter. The coleslaw was a sour disappointment and the fries were just ok. The tarter sauce was really good, the only complaint is that it was in a small container, which wasn't enough for all 3 pieces of fish. I didn't go back to the bar because it was always packed. Went here for the Fox 59 promotion last night. Love the vibe of this place! Its like an upscalish sports bar. We sat up at the bar for the true experience. Nathan was our bartender and he was awesome!! He was attentive and courteous, and talked about some tequila with us. Foodwise, I had the Mediterranean salad and added salmon. My spouse had the southwest chicken sandwich. I wasn't blown away by the food. For the prices of the food, I think it should be a little better quality; my dish was $22 and my spouses was $15 (for a sandwich). Drinks weren't cheap either, with an average of $13 for a cocktail (we ended up getting two tall mich ultras at $8 each- which isnt HORRIBLE for downtown prices) Maybe will skip the food next time, but will definitely be back either before or after an Indians game for a beer! read more

Stayed at the JW and since it was sub zero decided to simply order food to take to my room. Ordering process was pleasant and no issue. Picked up food returned to room only to find out I had no utensils or napkins. Needless to say it was not a great experience. Fortunately, I order fish and chips and could manage. I went to high velocity for lunch earlier this week and it was overall pretty good! I loved the space and how open it was with the windows. It was fancy enough to where people met there for business, but not to the point where you needed to dress up or pay for overpriced food I ordered the Short Rib Grilled Cheese and as I described in the photo, it was missing some cheese. It was pretty dry and the fries didn't have much salt. It was alright though, as I rated it a 7/10. The music was kind of all over the place and the songs were drastically different from each other. However, I liked that and think it made the experience more interesting. I also liked that the TV's were playing both sports and regular TV shows. Overall, I had a decent experience but would most likely not go out of my way to return. I think the small menu and bland food is a turn off for me, but there is definitely an audience that would enjoy this restaurant more! read more

High Velocity, like the rest of the J.W. gets higher marks for its stylish decor and appearance but falls short for foodies. The wagyu burger at $17 feels more like a $11 burger at Applebee's with too much bun, and nothing really special to write home about. The leaf lettuce was huge and a little bruised. I ordered it medium but it came out medium-well but the fries were abundant and tasted good. Maybe I'm being a little too harsh considering it's basically jacked up hotel food but there was room for improvement. The service was adequate and their Indian's game beer special was unexpected. The beer selection offers some notable crafts along with the safe old American light lagers. I probably wouldn't make an effort to go back unless I was staying at the JW. read more

Also, credit card charge on my half was for full amount of bill $158.93. Had to talk to five different people to get this fixed. Painful. It's the end of a crappy week, and High Velocity absolutely turned it around. The hostess was cheerful and personable and seated me right away. Nick (server) was at my table in less than a minute. In town for the Indiana Comic-Con and decided to check out this sports bar and grill for dinner. I decided to try the dip trio and the fish and chips. The dip trio was delicious. Comes with guacamole, queso blanco, and a spicy salsa (that was not spicy). Fresh baked tortilla chips made it complete. The fish and chips (fries for us americans) was a recommendation from my waiter, John, who was exceedingly knowledgeable of the menu and the key differences that made each individual dish stand out. And to his credit, the fish was fried to perfection but the standout was indeed the breading which was made with a local ipa beer in the batter. You can't mess up fries... unless you're McDonald's lol. To wash it down, I had a pineapple mule; another excellent suggestion. This was a vodka cocktail with pineapple juice and ginger beer (you read that correctly) that made this sweet, refreshing, and absolutely delicious. I will definitely be returning. read more

High Velocity is a perfect spot to eat, talk, and dine no matter if you are a guest at the hotel, or just in the area. I ordered it medium well but the burger patty is very thin and dry and seemed a lot like a frozen patty, not fresh beef. Also lacked any type of flavor. Fries were ok, but definitely would've skipped the wagyu burger. Pricey but that's to be expected for a hotel restaurant plus there is a 22% mark up for it to be delivered as room service. The order of wings, wagyu burger with fries, and one canned soda totaled a whopping $77 Update: I'm also now noticing that the charges/receipt you receive when you place your order and what you actually end up paying are not the same. The item prices are already marked up when it is ordered for room service, they rack on a delivery fee, but they wait until it is delivered to apply the automatic gratuity? A group of us were here in Indy at a conference, and I called to get a reservation for 30 last night. The management was helpful, friendly, and accommodating from start to finish. Our server Chris was great with his recommendations and incredibly patient with people moving from their seats and visiting other tables, standing up, socializing, needing individual bills, etc. The managers made sure we had tables together and had the college football game on that we wanted to see (sadly, we lost) and took great care of us. I'm sorry I didn't get their names, because they were as good as it gets. Our other server was great, too, but unfortunately I didn't catch his name either. It was a little busy, but that's pretty understandable considering we arrived a little after the lunch rush. And all of the servers were very nice. I've been to High Velocity several times. Have had some hits and misses with the food and service in the past but today was good. Got a burger w/bacon and it was nice to eat. Very thick patty that was slightly charred on the outside (which I like) and more rare inside than it should've been since I asked for a medium cook. They didn't skimp on the bacon...two huge pieces. The pretzel bun was toasted and tasty. I am not mad at the handcut fries. They can go greasy and are garbage if they come out cold. But today they were hot and well seasoned. Also I had great service today. One thing about this place is it's Loud. I like all the tvs for sports but the one they had on blast wasn't even showing on my side. I had two horrendous dining experiences here. I only went back for a second dose of misfortune because I was staying at the Marriott and the location was convenient. I was in Indianapolis for a work conference and the first evening I dined here I was looking to get some work done on my laptop while I enjoyed my meal. It was happy hour but the restaurant wasn't too crowded expect for a few groups hanging near the bar. I asked for a table and the hostess tried to seat me at a high-top table directly in the bar area. The table was set up to seat SEVEN people. I'm one person, with a laptop, trying to work; I don't need the space or the bar noise. There were ample tables on the perimeter of the restaurant but the hostess explained that the table he brought me to was my only option. So I declined and advised that I would dine elsewhere...and then I was promptly seated at a table in a quieter area of the restaurant. Interesting. Nothing else was noteworthy from night one except that the service was painfully slow. The next evening saw the same level of below average service but with the addition a major mishap related to my dessert. I requested it to go and was handed a bag to take up to my room. When I made it upstairs, I saw that the brownie sundae was missing a major component - ice cream! I called down and asked if someone could bring it up to me, and was told yes. Cool. Then I received another call explaining that only in-room dining could come up to my room, and the restaurant doesn't qualify as such so I would need to trek back downstairs. I explained that I wasn't willing to do that - at this point, appetite is fading, bedtime is nearing, and and no dessert is worth this much hassle. Unfortunately, whoever I was speaking to at the restaurant made a really poor choice of words in advising that I "left too quickly which is why the dessert was incomplete." I paid for my meal, was given a bag, and told to have a great night. Was I supposed to ask, is my dessert complete? Obviously not. Anywho, it served to sour what was already a mediocre experience. I stopped in High Velocity to celebrate "Tax Day" since there was a promotional event set up that had a Tax Day tie in: a Taxman Beer and wings for $10.40. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. After parking in the JW Marriott's parking, I took my ticket with me and had it validated (the first 1.5 hrs will be free if you eat at one of the restaurants) at the front desk of High Velocity. I was dining alone, but instead of sitting at the bar, I was taken to the back dining room where I was one of 2 people. Not near a television although there were more than I could count, I was glad I had good eyesight so I could read the streaming underneath. (I realize I could have requested a different spot.) But I wasn't there for the sports. I was there to grab the special...and the waitress knew nothing about it. So, she went to check. And she was told that I could only get a regular commercial beer instead of a Taxman craft beer. I prefer to drink craft beer to support local breweries, so decided to go with something else for dinner. I ordered a Metazoa Hoppopotamus with the Salmon BLT (which comes with house fries and a dill pickle). No tax day promotion, but it looked like the best I would do. After my order, my beer was delivered and then nothing. I didn't see my waitress for a long stretch. No water. Someone else delivered my food and was gone. The food was okay. The fries were under cooked and on the limp side of being done. The salmon was cooked properly, but the flavor of the condiments they put on the fish was underwhelming. It was an okay sandwich. As I was down to the last 3 bites, the waitress showed up to see how it was. And then she was gone again. Fortunately, there was one guy working who was really paying attention and even though I wasn't his guest, he noticed I had pushed all my plates to the far side of my table and was sitting there with my wallet in hand. He cleared my plates and went to find my waitress. She arrived and from then on, did a good job of getting my bill processed. The food was okay. The server was okay, just not present very often.
