The beer is good. I really enjoyed the Deduction Belgian-style dubbel - a Gold Medal winning beer. I am very sad about the food and service, though. I will cut some slack on the service, however - I arrives after what seems to have been a very atypical rush of Journey fans who inundated the place before heading to Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The staff seemed a bit rundown and slap happy - not really attentive to the bar where I sat. I waited a bit long before I was greeted with a menu, waited awhile with an empty glass, waited with my food pushed away before it was cleared. No one asked if everything was okay even though most of my food was untouched. The food... my salad (house greens) was a great little salad! I say this despite finding a hair on the plate when I was about 2/3 through. My mussels and fries were not great. The fries were mid - they tasted kind of overdone or as if the oil were old. The mussels were actively bad. The portion (an app) was pretty small. There was hardly any broth/wine and they weren't piping hot. Also, they were actually not tasty and the texture was rubbery. They remained in front of me, uncleared, even after I closed my tab. They did not smell good. I don't anticipate being sick but I do anticipate being hungry. read more

UPDATE ON REVIEW Madison Saves the Day! Just had my sons and future Daughter-in-laws rehearsal dinner at this establishment. Sorry to say did not go as planned since they served the wrong dinner. Should have been Filet and Chicken - we were served some undercooked Salmon (several servings) and Chicken. THE PERSON WHO SAVED THE DAY AND OUR EVENT -was our bartender / server - MADISON!!! She was awesome and worked so hard along with her GM. They did get my son (The Groom) a Filet (since he hates fish). They also did not charge us for the extra 4 people who showed up and were not part of the final count (to help make up for the food mix up). All in all if you book an event here, check and double check with their event coordinator on your final counts and to make sure you get the meal that you ordered and paid to have served. We braved the cold for Devour Indy to try out this spot which has been on our list for some time. There is metered parking along the street as well as some parking garages but keep in mind you might have to walk a bit. The space is nicely lit and has a fun patio which would be great in the warmer months. It is mostly windows and has a fun bar area so plenty of seating which highlight the city views. We made reservations but there seemed to be plenty of tables (probably as super cold). We tried various options and everyone exclaimed over the salmon, the frites and the grilled cheese. My gnocchi was amazing too! The showstopper though for me was the flourless chocolate cake! I will go back soon for that option! A fun place with lots of tasty options and easily accessible once inside. Definitely a place for a quick bite or a fancy meal as a fun atmosphere. I visited Taxman for a team dinner on a weekday and overall the experience was 4* I say that cause my grilled cheese sandwich (pretty much the only vegetarian option) was too sweet. Granted it came with fig jam but the abundance of sweetness didn't sit well. The Brussels sprouts were a crowd favorite and we ended up ordering twice. We booked a private room at Taxman for a conference, and it was great from start to finish. The staff greeted us upon arrival and led us to our room, which was set up for us in advance. We started off with cocktails, and everyone in the party enjoyed theirs. They were well-blended and not overly sweet. The two people in our party who ordered mocktails also noted that they were well-made. Everyone in our party ordered something different, and we were all happy with our choices. The burgers were cooked perfectly, the truffle fries were crispy and full of savory flavors, and the Mac and cheese had a great cheese blend and very tender beef. Our server Jake was great. Our waters were never empty, and he checked in with us frequently. I am not from Indy, but I absolutely recommend Taxman to those who do live here and those visiting. Beware of making a reservation here on the OpenTable app. We had a reservation for Wednesday (today is Sunday) for four of us. We were hoping to grab a bite to eat at a place that wasn't too far away from Gainbridge before the concert we were going to. We got a message today stating our reservation was being cancelled due to being booked by a group, and could only offer us seating on the patio. Mind you we have been under consistent thunderstorm warnings the past week, and Wednesday we have rain and cold weather in the forecast. Now we are left scrambling trying to find somewhere to eat beforehand. In my opinion, the restaurant handled this poorly. They should only allow bookings within a certain timeframe, so that people with reservations don't get the short end of the stick. They also could have offered us some sort of incentive for the inconvenience to visit on another day. read more

We grabbed a seat at the bar and were greeted right away by the bartenders, who gave us some recommendations. The Brussels sprouts appetizer had good flavor, but they were fried into oblivion and cold. It was like they had re-heated them multiple times. I got the chicken sandwich, grilled, which was the best thing we had. Tons of flavor and the fries were cooked and seasoned perfectly. Came here early on a Friday afternoon and enjoyed all the beers we tried. My wife had the wine and enjoyed it. Most of taxman beers are excellent, in my opinion. We also had the soft pretzel with beer, cheese and mustard, and it was a hit. Followed by the mac & cheese with brisket, the short rib, and the Frisco burger with fries. Before coming to Taxman, I had heard very mixed reviews. Some people loved it and some people said it was "so-so." I think after my first experience here, I'm leaning more toward "so-so" Firstly, I have to note the service was very slow. We got there pretty early (around 4:30 or 5) so it wasn't very busy, yet somehow we still waited ages for our drinks and our orders to be taken. The waitress was very nice once she got to us, but it really made no sense because there were barely any other people in her section. She also barely checked on us throughout the time we spent there. Some of the food was really good but some of it very mid. To start, the nachos were not great. There was barely any cheese/toppings. I think we also got the loaded fries and they were okay but lacked enough toppings as well. The Brussel sprouts had goat cheese on them, which I'm not the biggest fan of, but otherwise they were good. My pork tenderloin was underwhelming and had a very thick breading. The highlights of the meal were probably the chicken and waffles and the carne asada. Those were both very good! The drinks we ordered were also tasty when we finally got them. Overall, I'd probably try this place again if I were to be invited but I don't think I'll ever choose it myself. read more

I should start off by saying I was in a pretty decent sized group and I always feel like that factors into the type of experience I have. I never expect much with a group our size, but our waitress and seriously on it! We never had empty drinks and she was so funny and personable. So she was definitely one of the best parts of the experience. Now for the food and drinks, I got a margarita and it was okay, it honestly just tasted like sour mix and tequila, which personally isn't my favorite. But everyone else seemed to enjoy their cocktails so I may just be picky! For appetizers we got the deviled eggs and the pretzel, the pretzel was okay, it was a typically brewery pretzel so I couldn't complain there. The biggest issues came with the orders, now I cannot stress enough how amazing our waitress was, everything came out hot and it came out correct. It just was very... meh. When asking around the table how everyone's food was, it was a resounding "okay", most people left with a decent amount of food left. There isn't one specific thing I can't point to that I was like "this is the issue to be fixed" it just wasn't super flavorful food IMO. read more
