    Salmon Platter

Great spot for breakfast! My hubby and I ordered the Salmon Platter for 2 and my daughter ordered the banana Nutella waffles. Both were AMAZING! The salmon Platter had a very generous serving of cream cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion, capers, and plenty of salmon. The bagels were fluffy, not hard at all, they tasted very fresh. I took a bite of my daughter's waffles. So delicious. It came with a side of what tasted like fresh whipped cream and NY maple syrup. I also loved how local, quaint and charming their coffee shop is. It had beautiful art work all for sale and fun hand made crafts and soaps for sale.

Great spot to pickup coffee and a quick bite in Windham. They have a walk up window so you can get your coffee, breakfast or ice cream and maintain social distance. They also have a few picnic tables outside or you can take your food back to your car. They are open daily which is particularly helpful on Mondays and Tuesdays when not everything around is open.

It wasn't too busy when we arrived in middle of the afternoon, and we were warmly greeted. You place your order at the counter and then seat yourself. Water and cups are out too. I went with the Pad Thai ($27 with chicken) and also got to try some of the fried chicken ($17), a special. Prices seemed a little high but the dishes were delicious, with portions being reasonable and the Pad Thai not being overwhelmingly sweet. The fried chicken was magically crunchy outside and moist inside, with an irresistible dipping sauce not too cilantro-y. The Windham Local has a parking lot off to the side, but there was ample street parking too. And a shop proprietor later told us that The Windham Local is her place to eat in town!

Coffees were delicious and strong and the breakfast burrito was truly the best breakfast burrito I think I've ever had. The space is so cute. I read on their website while planning the weekend that they are open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and have live music on the weekends. It looks like they do it all. We stopped in early and had our choice of tables. The space is big, clean and perfectly calm. Great spot for a slow breakfast. After ordering at the counter, they brought everything over to our table. I got the oatmeal bowl. Delicious and simple. However, I couldn't help but steal many many bites of the breakfast burrito. Seriously, get it! A great spot with good food, a friendly team and a cozy vibe.

The waitress was fine but clearly very busy. We had mentioned wanting to get dessert at the beginning but when we were done eating, she had just brought us our check - we were too fully anyway. I had the garden salad sandwich on farm bread. The avocado wasn't the freshest and there was only one tiny piece of tomato - this will probably be a good sandwich in peak summer. The sandwiches came with chips and salsa. The store made mango salsa is delicious. Locally made root beer in a bottle was delicious and unique. They are rude, unfriendly, skip phrases like welcome and thank you. I was not asked if I liked my stay, and it was clear that charging my credit card was the highest priority... I have no problems paying my bills and they just seemed to make this a confrontational issue for no reason!!! 2: I made my reservation though Priceline.com using my American Express card. The hotel staff called my "work number" instead of my cell number to inform me that they were going to refuse to charge my American Express card after my reservation was confirmed on Priceline.com. Luckily I called the hotel to verify my reservation and the hotel staff then demanded another card from me with no apology stating they they "do not accept American Express". Obviously this hotel is not in compliance with Priceline policy and is violating their agreement. I will take this up with Priceline as well! 3: if you like killing flies in your room in the middle of winter you will love your room! Because I killed three flies in my room and was amazed to see them with snow on the ground outside! Whether you're coming off a long day at Hunter Mountain or just passing through Windham, this spot perfectly balances a rustic, family-friendly atmosphere with a menu that doesn't cut corners. The Butcher Steaks: This isn't just a "chicken joint." They take their beef seriously, offering fresh-cut, flame-grilled steaks like the 24oz Ribeye and NY Strip. They even age their own steaks in-house when available, resulting in a tender, seasoned-to-perfection cut that rivals high-end steakhouses but at much friendlier "mountain prices." The Signature Fried Chicken: This is the restaurant's namesake for a reason. The chicken is consistently hot, crispy, and juicy. Pro tip: Get the combo that comes with their special honey sauce and "cornbread cake." Dipping the savory, salty skin into that honey is a game-changer. BBQ Ribs: If you're looking for "fall-off-the-bone," you found it. Their ribs are slow-cooked and slathered in a rich, tangy sauce that requires a stack of napkins and zero regrets. Save room--or just admit you're having a second dinner--for the homemade desserts. Their dessert bar and soft-serve ice cream are staples, but the real magic happens in the summer (or around the outdoor firepits) with their S'mores kits. It's the perfect way to cap off a mountain day. With a massive backyard featuring a firepit, live music on the weekends, and a "come as you are" dress code, it's easily the best spot for big groups. The service is fast, the portions are massive, and the "old-school country" energy makes you feel like a local the moment you walk in.

We arrived around 7:45 p.m., ordered drinks, and then waited an entire hour before receiving our appetizer--after the restaurant had mostly emptied out. The "nachos" were nothing more than broken tortilla chips topped with vegetarian chili and a few jalapeños. There was virtually no cheese, and I had to ask for sour cream. To make matters worse, they were served with paper plates. During that entire hour, our waitress never once checked on us. She never apologized for the wait, never refilled our drinks, and never asked if we needed anything. We honestly thought our order had been forgotten. The atmosphere wasn't much better. We heard other tables complaining, glasses crashing to the floor, and the entire evening felt like we were on a prank show. By 9:15 p.m.--an hour and a half after arriving--we still hadn't received our entrees, which were simply a grilled chicken salad, chicken fingers with fries, and a kielbasa dinner. I can't comment on the food because we never got it. At 9:20 p.m., I politely got up and asked our waitress how much longer it would be. Without even looking up, she snapped, "She's working on it." No apology. No explanation. Just attitude. At that point, we'd had enough. I asked for the check for our drinks and appetizer so we could leave. She stormed away. When she returned, she dropped the check on our table--which still hadn't been cleared from the appetizer--and walked away. When I asked her what her name was, she ignored me completely. I then asked the blonde bartender for the waitress's name. She first told me it was Paula, then quickly corrected herself and said, "Oh wait, it's actually Jess," once she realized why I was asking, so I'm still not sure which is correct. The waitress appeared to be a heavy-set woman in her late 30s or early 40s with brown hair pulled back in a ponytail, which should help management identify who waited on our table. Before we left, we overheard the bartender telling two guests that there was only one server and one bartender working, another employee had been called in too late to make a difference, and the cook on duty wasn't the strongest, which was why the kitchen was so slow. While I understand that staffing shortages happen, none of this was ever communicated to us. A simple explanation and apology would have gone a long way. I paid the bill and left. We have a vacation home just 15 minutes away and dine in the area often. Unfortunately, after this experience, we will never return. Between the excessive wait, poor communication, rude service, and disappointing food, this was easily one of the worst restaurant experiences we've had.
