This is a famous Chinese food spot for local politicians for lunch and NBA stars and now the Oakland A baseball team. There is no back door or underground tunnel entrance or exit. Our server Yee was super nice and he liked us so much that he gave us a free slice of their famous banana pie. This pie is made fresh everyday. The pastry chef has 2 sous chefs to help. Their orders can be up to 300 pies a day! This very flaky thin crust with the beautiful layered at an angle with a fresh whipped cream topping. We wanted to try it but didn't want to get super full. We ended up finishing the complimentary piece of pie. We also had the wok fried pork spareribs that had this lovely seasoned jalapeño with that crispy bite but be careful of the bones. It reminded us of chicken wings. That crunchy crispy outside with perfectly cooked meat on the inside. The tip was to use the hot mustard and ketchup to dip it in. They give you a plate of various sauces from mild to super spicy. The sweet and sour soup is also made fresh every day with chunky vegetables with lots of flavors. Also, I didn't notice that they charged $16.99 for the plate, which was a little steep considering I got no chow mein. For starters, parking is very limited, as it is a strip mall. There is some street parking. By the time we ordered, it was getting increasingly busy. We had only 4 people in our party, so they didn't initially provide us with the menu for larger family set meals, so we had to ask for it. We went for set A which serves 4-6 people. This set included the following: Soup of the day: Simple vegetable soup with some pork/beef in it. Peking spare ribs: Deep fried spare ribs with a sweet sort of sauce. This was a bit saucier than my liking. Not my favorite dish. Empress chicken (half): This was done very well, cooked perfectly. Came with ginger scallion oil. Pan fried sole: Classic, freshly deep fried, with a soy sauce based sauce. Mixed mushroom beef: Beef was tender, dish was seasoned well. Had a good balance of protein and vegetables. Seasonal vegetables and garlic: Simple, but delicious and a generous amount of vegetables. We also ordered mushroom with salted egg yolk from the Chef's Specials menu and it was delicious! This dish was very generous in size. There were pieces of fried beech (or seafood) mushroom in salted egg yolk batter. Seemed like there was at least two grocery store containers worth of mushrooms, if you've ever seen them in the Asian grocery store. This was almost like a snack, and went so well with white rice itself. They offered a complimentary dessert but it was very plain. It was straight up herbal/grass jelly with a sweet syrup. Service was standard for an Asian restaurant. The restaurant is pretty big compared to what you might see on the outside. The restaurant was acceptably clean. We sat by the window, and although it was covered, the sun was basically still shining on us, so it was really warm sitting there. Overall, I would highly recommend if you're looking for authentic Chinese food.
