Chicken Chow Mein Orange Chicken Dinner for 4
    Irah S.

New Shanghai is supperrr popular considering they are one of the only halal Chinese spots in sac so if you want to go make a reservation beforehand!! I went during Ramadan and the service was great and they tried to get out food to us promptly - since we were the first ones to order - my friend who came later had waited about 30 minutes for her order to be taken and a mother thirty for the food to arrive. So be prepared to wait!!! The service is great otherwise (but they definitely need more staff) and location is well decorated but small for the amount of traffic they get. The food is pretty good though some dishes are definitely better than others (like orange chicken over the chow mein - DONT do mongolian meat it's so bad and tasteless both times).

Was really excited to see that this place was under new ownership and now all Halal! My family has been coming to New Shanghai for over 20years and quality had gone downhill in recent years. A change was much needed. Came in late around 8:20pm after training at the gym across the street and saw a sign at the front "no dine-in today". No problem, there was a big party of what we assumed was family sitting in the dining area. At first impression, the place was really clean! And decorated nicely. We ordered, with recommendations from the helpful waiter, and hung out for about 15 mins while they prepared our food. We ordered the Mongolian beef chow mein after learning they no longer had the bbq chicken option. Also ordered the General Chicken. We only live about 12 mins away so food was still super hot when we got home. The chow mein was delicious, very flavorful and the beef was thin and tender. The general chicken was amazing, not too spicy but just right! A heads up- it was deep fried and very breaded so you didn't actually get much chicken. The breading was sweet almost favored funnel cake but oh sooo tasty! And they threw in a huge side of this crispy chili that was more smokey than spicy - it was incredible. Overall, really happy with our food, wished they'd give a more generous portion of meat but next time we will order a protein entree that isn't fried. And can't wait to dine-in for the full experience.

House Special General Chicken- supposedly? Where's the chicken?! It's all donut like inside..

Ordered door dash for lunch. Not sure what they are doing with their general tso chicken, but it's literally almost all breading. Where's the chicken?! I was wondering why it tasted so sweet and the texture was off. I split the "chicken" up on several pieces and it's pretty much 99% breading that's fluffy almost like a donut inside. There might be a tiny piece of what might be chicken in there... not sure. Chicken chow mein was good so 2 stars. I wouldn't recommend. Yikes.

Pretty good price and good food. We ordered House Chow mien that we had ordered to go before so we knew it was good. Shrimp fried rice, was good according to hubby who is a picky lol Wonton soup (forgot to take pic), was average Mongolian Beef was blah and disappointed. I had no idea how to describe it. Sadly. Service was good. The place is nice and clean. Water served in a Kirkland water bottle. They have free coffee and tea if I could recall but unfortunately no one refills the dispenser by the time we were there. We would come back to try some other food besides Mongolian.

Honey walnut shrimp. Flavour was good!!

This is one of the full service Chinese restaurant serves 100% halal. The place might have been previously under different ownership and wasn't halal at that time. Current owner needs to take down old pictures, this confuses Customers who cares about 100% halal food.

The food is delicious and never disappoint! The ambiance is amazing and the service is great! Absolutely recommend. This has been our go to spot for Halal Chinese food in the area. We really recommend Mandarin chicken/shrimp, the wantons and the chow mien.

Our waiterS were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable in their menu options. One of them was super friendly -- maybe even a bit cheeky! -- and he made us feel at home. Second, the ambiance was dinner date night worthy so long as you don't mind a few TVs. They didn't bother us nor was the volume obnoxiously loud. The bar area is fun and modern-looking. Third, ohmygoodness! The food was sooo delicious! The Cantonese-style Seabass paired quite lovely with Shrimp Fried Rice and Combination Veggies!!! The seabass was topped with sliced ginger and onions. It was super tasty! It reminded me of home cooked meals growing up. The shrimp in the fried rice was tender and lighted dusty with some type of flour that made it perfectly crisp. And the combination veggies was perfectly cooked and served in a light sauce! Thing is, I'm not a huge fan of "Asian Fusion" but this place seemed to hit all the boxes for us. Go give Folsom Palace a try! p.s. Each dish was beautifully presented and smelled amazing as they walked up... that I totally forgot to take pictures (lol).

The noodles were flavorful and well-seasoned, the shrimp were cooked perfectly, and the vegetables were fresh. Everything tasted great together. However, for $20, I expected a little more. There were only 4 shrimp in the box, which feels like too little for the price. If they had included at least 6-8 shrimp, it would have been much better. The food is delicious, but the value for the money could definitely be improved.

I paid with a $50 bill and was initially given only about a dollar in change. I had to point out that I hadn't received the correct change before I was given the rest. The whole situation was very confusing and concerning. As for the food, the egg rolls were not crispy and the outside was extremely thick. The fried rice looked dark and flavorful, but unfortunately it was very bland. You also have to purchase soy sauce separately, and they charge $0.50 per packet. The orange chicken had good flavor, but the portions were very stingy. There wasn't much meat, and the amount of rice was also small considering how much everything costs. The young girl working the front may have been inexperienced, because the change and total situation was handled incorrectly. I'm not sure if it was a mistake or what happened, but being charged $47 when my receipt showed $41 was frustrating. For the prices, I expected much better food, portions, and service. This was my first time here and unfortunately it will be my last. I would not recommend this place based on my experience.

There were few restaurants and no such thing as fast food. Family... We loved it because we would see my Uncle and Auntie and sit at a large round table and enjoy a great variety of dishes we shared with the whole family , of course only on special occasions. This was well before the Pandas of the world, today's fast food, take out evolution and I can't say that it's better other than the variety of Taiwan, Sichuan, Asian fusion highly creative dishes, every type of Chinese food you can think of. But stepping into Rose Garden brings back those past memories, you know the type you forgot about, until a flavor or dish you know the taste of familiarity that brings back good memories. Well ,I have to say Rose Garden is a great place to find Cantonese food at a great price with food that will remind you of family dinners. So if you're on the road to Tahoe and crave Cantonese food , this restaurant sits between the 50 and 80 freeway just outside Sacramento in Roseville. Service welcoming and fast!

We were about 20 minutes away when we ordered by phone. We went with some Sesame Chicken and Chicken Chowmein. When we arrived we were still waiting since they were making orders ahead of us. We sat in the dining room, which is not set up for anyone to dine in. This seemed to be only a pick up type of place. After about 15 more minutes our order was ready. The woman was so nice and packed up a couple plates, with silverware, napkins, soy sauce, and fortune cookies. We hopped back into the truck and drove back to his house for the remainder of our date. After another 20 minute drive, we went inside and out food was still piping hot! The only issue we had was that the paper plates were so thin. We literally only got 2 of the thinnest plates you could find on the market. Putting anything on them would bleed through... so if you ask for plates double or triple up what you really need. The Sesame Chicken was very good. Cooked fresh. The crunch on the outside of the chicken and the taste of the sauce was spot on. The Chicken Chowmein noodles were just as delicious! This spot was so close to my parents house, I am so surprised I had never discovered it! Good food ended with a gorgeous night!!

04.26.26 Mama (that's me) was in the mood for some Chinese,…read moreso instead of taking hubby for a sit down spot in Roseville/Granite Bay I've been meaning to take him to, we opted for takeout close to home. We've tried several spots in the area after our typical go-to hadn't been great the last few times we ordered. So, I turned to my trusty Yelp and found Pearl House. Hubs knew exactly where it was--next door to Grocery Outlet. I thought it was closed last time we were at GC, like closed closed. So when we saw pics from 3days ago, we knew that wasn't the case. Being 7pm on a Sunday, we saw they closed at 9pm. So, looked at their menu online, we decided on our order: Hubs' go-to whenever trying a new place is General Tso's Chicken, and I tried something new-Happy Family because I was in the mood for a protein variety dish, and this had quite the variety: scallop, shrimp, calamari, crabmeat, chicken, BBQ pork, and beef with a plethora or veggies. We also wanted egg rolls. I called and a lady answered, took my order, and said it'd be ready in 10min. Didn't take my name or number-wow! Not only did I think that was kinda crazy, but TEN minutes?!?! This was either gunna blow my mind or be horrible. We drove over and upon entering there were a few people inside leaving--not sure if they were also to-go or has finished eating there. I looked around and saw many empty tables, but clean looking dining room area. A lady behind the counter wearing a face mask asked to help me. I let her know I was there to pick up, and she asked what I ordered. Our order was already boxed up ready to go. Our total? $41 before tip. I asked her if they did sit down, she confirmed yes. Then I told her it was my first time in there, to which she asked where I lived and that they've been there for 37 YEARS! Then she said she hopes we like our food and to see us again. I grabbed a to-go menu and went on my way. The food smelled good and when we got home, I grabbed my own chopsticks and hot chili oil, and was ready to grub. In the box, besides our ordered food, they included sweet & sour sauce for the egg rolls, as well as soy sauce packets and individually wrapped fortune cookies. I first went for an eggroll, which was surprisingly longer in length than most other places. Took a bite and enjoyed that wonderful crispy outside texture, and saw it was veggie only inside--whomp, whomp. In my mind, these should really be called spring rolls. However, these had some REALLY great flavor!! Hubs enjoys meat in his rolls, but after explaining the flavor, he still tried one himself and was quite happy with it. He had taken a bite of his GT Chicken and said it was pretty good. He said it tasted a little too sweet, almost dessert-y, but that it was also really good. I tried a small piece and liked how crispy it was even in all the sweet sauciness. Then I opened my dish and boy oh boy did it look good. Now before I talk about how it tasted, I need to explain what I thought I was getting. The menu said all those proteins I mentioned, and that it was tossed with snow pea pods, broccoli tips, mushrooms (which I ordered without) and baby corn. All veggies I enjoy! So, what my dish actually came with (as you can see in my pic), there was onions, carrots, celery, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, NO calamari or baby corn or BBQ pork. That all said, I was most disappointed in not having the calamari, BBQ pork or baby corn. Sad, yes. But the overall dish made up for it. With that, I was not mad AT ALL, and surprisingly ate the entire thing in one sitting--NOT a usual thing for me!! Granted, I hadn't eaten since breakfast, but still. It was DEE-LICIOUS and I'll say Dee-approved!! I'm literally writing this review immediately after eating dinner because it was THAT good y'all! I couldn't not let my people know that Pearl House is legit and it's obvious why they've been around for 37 years. This may be our new go-to spot for that neighborhood Chinese food craving, IJS. So, if you're in the area and looking for some authentic Chinese cuisine, look no further and check out Pearl House for yourself. We most definitely will be back. P.S. And them fortune cookies are good too!
