The no-proof cocktail selection was impressive and fun. Between the 2 of us, we ordered 4 non-alcoholic drinks, a salad, 2 entrees and a dessert. All were prepared with fresh ingredients, presented well, and had good flavors (though some needed additional salt and pepper). The Cucumber Citrus Soda was made of grapefruit, cucumber, ginger, soda. It was served in a tall glass with a large slice of cucumber and a straw. Very refreshing with nice fresh citrus flavor. The Honey Herb Spritz was made of grapefruit, honey, rosemary and mineral water, and served in a small goblet with citrus peel. Also refreshing, but lighter in flavor. Not too sweet, and well-balanced by the rosemary. The Damn Jam drink was made from house-made berry jam, pomegranate, lemon, mint and served in a tall glass with a straw and no garnish. It was very sweet and jam forward. The blueberry basil lemonade was served in a large water glass and a straw. Tasted like frozen blueberries with more subtle basil notes. The beet salad was a bed of crisp greens piled high with generous amounts of red and gold beets, large candied walnuts, grated carrots, and topped with an herbed goat cheese. Very flavorful, especially with the Italian dressing. The stroganoff was artfully presented - fresh mushrooms and slices of beef cooked in a wine demi-glace, tossed with wide egg noodles and finished with dollops of sour cream and dried parsley. The flavor was good, but the dish needed to be seasoned more. We had to add a lot of salt and pepper for the flavors to come through. The seared salmon was served with mashed potatoes, and brussels sprouts with toasted almonds. The salmon was perfectly cooked and seasoned well. The mashed potatoes were creamy and a little sweet, and the brussels sprouts had a good crisp on the outside and a nice honey glaze. The sides needed some salt and pepper too. The carrot cake was great - a very large 3-layer slice, frosted with cream cheese icing and covered in a caramel sauce. The cake was moist and had all the particulates (raisins, nuts, pineapple, noticeable carrots) that a carrot cake should have. read more

I have been visiting this establishment since 2016 due to living within the area and have not really been back since moving away from the area in 2018. I made an effort in returning after all the COVID riffraff and I am happy to say that Highland Grill continues to have it together! When my partner and I used to visit back in 2016 and 2017, Kim, who was the manager during that time, was very courteous to us and would even take one plate off the bill everytime we visited! Unfortunately we do not see Kim around anymore this time returning, but it didn't stop us from having a wonderful experience. The food continues to be good. I have had all the entrées from years ago like Steak & Pierogies, Lemongrass Thai Chicken, Beef Stroganoff, Seared Salmon, and more. They also used to have meatloaf which I loved. However, I do not recall them having Tuna Poke Bowl from back in the days, so I tried it this time. It was definitely a healthy version and not authentic, so I would advise whoever is looking for authenticity to avoid ordering it. However, I liked the combination of all the healthy stuff so I enjoyed it regardless, as a salad bowl rather than as a poke bowl. Appetizers have always just been hitting different. The cheesecurds, the loaded tots, the pierogies, the brussels sprouts, everything tasted just like how they were 5-6 years ago and they were simply savory in the most positive way. I wouldn't change anything about any of those dishes. I tried their beet salad this time as well, and I absolutely loved the combination of beets, goat cheese, carrots, and candied walnuts. I could see that they were trying to use alternative flavors to replace the earthy flavors from the beets and as much as I love beets personally, I appreciated the move. The burger was so thin, not thick and juicy like I remembered. There was very little poblano aioli and the lettuce (which was fresh and crisp) dominated the burger. The sweet potato fries were burnt to a crisp. I believe the manager brought out our food and I would think she would've taken one look at the fries and would've told the cooks to make a new batch. Unfortunately, while we were dining, a mouse ran across the floor and continued to move around throughout the meal. I understand that things can happen--especially in winter--but what truly upset us was the manager's response. He came to our table only to confirm that we had seen the mouse and said someone would take care of it in the morning. We stopped in for dinner on a Saturday night. We did not make reservations and found there to be a bit of a wait. Fortunately 3 spots opened up at the bar which eliminated our wait time. Thank you staff for pointing that out to us! The restaurant is not very large so highly recommend reservations to be safe. We had a picky teenager with us who usually does not like new places. Despite his going on 15, they did allow him to order the chicken tenders off the kids menu which we were so appreciative of. The kids meal came with 3 chicken tenders, fries, fruit and a side of goldfish (he got cheez-its which he felt were even better). He loved his meal which is rare so I think that says something amazing there. I got the Hot Hash & Holly which was fantastic! Everything was perfect and I left with a very full belly! My fiance ordered a special that is not a menu reguar but had eggs and what I thought were potato cakes and he said hashbrowns and all the breakfast meat and he absolutely loved his meal. Four of us went for dinner. Reservations were difficult, and the Grill was crowded, suggesting it served good food. We were most disappointed. Our food orders came all at once. We ordered platters from the "All Day Breakfast menu". The pancakes and poached eggs were cold. They apparently had been allowed to sit some time before being served. The poached eggs were more hard-boiled than soft. The toasts were cold and not buttered. The pork sausage links dry, and burnt. The food was almost inedible. Two person shared a house salad and the steak and pierogies dish. They felt these were satisfactory. The alcoholic drinks were alcoholic in name only. The Bloody Mary had no tastable vodka. The Pinehurst consisted almost entirely of ice chips. Service was very poor. Our server, Rachel C, appeared 15 minutes after being seated, took our orders, brought our drinks and then disappeared until she gave us our check. Water glasses weren't refilled. When she gave us our check, we stated our food had been served cold and that we couldn't find anyone to mention this to. A muttered "sorry" was her response with an offer of a complementary dessert. Based on our experience with the entrées, we chose not to do this. The ambience was, as expected, crowded but pleasant. All in all, however, a most unpleasant experience. This is definitely a place I would go on a date to, being family, or just chill on my own. Parking can be tough especially during morning-mid morning on the weekends but you can find parking reasonably distanced in the side streets. I had the Fish & Chips w/ the Breakfast Salad. I quickly realized the quality if food on my plate was exceptional. The fish was fresh hand battered w/ an entirely scratch made beer batter. There were 2 large portions w/ fries. It came w/ a 1/2 grilled lemon. The fries were hot, crispy & fluffy on the inside. I LOVED the Tartar Sauce the most though. Homemade as well! No jared sauces here (other than the ketchup & mustard). All scratch made! These little extras make a major difference it how this simple classic meal satisfies my palate. My server Mandy & the host Kylie are all wonderful! Both were very busy (Mandy was also bussing) yet so warm & attentive. The price for what you are getting is more that reasonable, though I was told it would be "pricey". I've spent far more on the same meal to find a frozen fish filet I could have bought @ Costo set in front of me. If you haven't yet, give this place a try. You won't be disappointed. For those who have been here, don't forget the Highland Grill. Local gems like this are coming down in droves these days. We need to keep places like this alive & serving for decades to come. I eat at Highland Grill several times per month. I have my favorites such as the broccoli appetizer. It's so great I replicated the dish at home (definitely not as tasty but yummy nonetheless). My other favorite is the cakes and eggs dish! It's heavenly. The service is always consistently OUTSTANDING! There's one waitress in particular that is wonderful. She wears adorable earrings and pins. I was disappointed last evening however, when I ordered a cheeseburger without onions and when I got it there were onions in the burger. The icing on the cake was the lipstick on the rim of the class of water! At that point I wanted to throw up. I always always request a straw because I don't trust how glasses are held by wait staff overall. Anyway I was almost at the end of my meal and was looking at the glass and there was the lipstick.
