    American Breakast

I tend to judge breakfast spots based on their classic American Breakast, and the one at Highland Grill is pretty average. Everything was prepared just fine, but none of the items really stood out. Especially at the price point, I was hoping for something a little more special. The service was quick, but we were not offered water until the end of our meal, which was a little strange. The restaurant itself is cozy and in a busy shopping area of Highland Park. I'd categorize this as "not somewhere you'd need to go out of your way to visit, but convenient if you're in the area".

Lemon Goat Cheese $4 (Happy Hour Menu) with croutes, blistered cherry tomatoes and balsamic (v) I didn't know we can have just bread and goat cheese and it'd be this amazing. I just wish there's more TOMATOES! Tuesday night is date night. Come before 6 get some apps and cocktail(s) then get your dinner for 2 for $49.95 and get a bottle of wine for $20!!! Foods are amazing, ambiance is super chill! Service is excellent, Our Server is Lia, she's very attentive - gold star standard with smiles!

Hubby and I stopped in for breakfast and loved it! I had the breakfast melt and just devoured it! It was so flavorful. Hubby had the Farmhouse - he said it was good but wasn't anything that blew him away. Our server was so fun - very energetic and friendly. I loved the holiday decorations they have up, and rhe Christmas coffee mugs. :)

Cheese curds are always fire af. Their dipping sauces hit every time. I ordered extra ranch on the side Pierogis were just okay. Everyone seems to come here for the breakfast.

7am breakfast and I loved the vibe of the restaurant that early. We had the loveliest server who kept on pouring me fresh coffee and ice water. I ordered the pumpkin pancakes and they did not disappoint. The favor was amazing and the praline sauce was the perfect match with the pumpkin flavor. I ordered eggs and turkey sausage on the side. Turkey sausage was ok, nothing special but everything was like 10/10. I think my dad wished he ordered those pancakes as well.

The food was superb. I had blueberry French toast and it was so good. I enjoyed every minute of it. And my wifes peroggis were phenomenal. Thw service was outstanding and Riley O did a remarkable job as our Server. She definitely deserves a raise seeinf she was able to balance the busy rush, April 25th. That Cinnamon Caramel Ice Cream is amazing and I would totally agree with the waitress that it would go great with the pies. The atmosphere was great and their funny quote wall was to die for. Loved it. Hands down a 10 star experience easily.

Whenever I eat breakfast it's a constant battle. Sweet vs savory. How do you decide?! Get both, that's what I did when I went here. After every bite I thought I'd been persuaded to each side. They were both so incredible. The pancakes and the hash. It's a little small inside, so take that into consideration when deciding when to go.

I have been visiting this establishment since 2016 due to living within the area and have not really been back since moving away from the area in 2018. I made an effort in returning after all the COVID riffraff and I am happy to say that Highland Grill continues to have it together! When my partner and I used to visit back in 2016 and 2017, Kim, who was the manager during that time, was very courteous to us and would even take one plate off the bill everytime we visited! Unfortunately we do not see Kim around anymore this time returning, but it didn't stop us from having a wonderful experience. The food continues to be good. I have had all the entrées from years ago like Steak & Pierogies, Lemongrass Thai Chicken, Beef Stroganoff, Seared Salmon, and more. They also used to have meatloaf which I loved. However, I do not recall them having Tuna Poke Bowl from back in the days, so I tried it this time. It was definitely a healthy version and not authentic, so I would advise whoever is looking for authenticity to avoid ordering it. However, I liked the combination of all the healthy stuff so I enjoyed it regardless, as a salad bowl rather than as a poke bowl. Appetizers have always just been hitting different. The cheesecurds, the loaded tots, the pierogies, the brussels sprouts, everything tasted just like how they were 5-6 years ago and they were simply savory in the most positive way. I wouldn't change anything about any of those dishes. I tried their beet salad this time as well, and I absolutely loved the combination of beets, goat cheese, carrots, and candied walnuts. I could see that they were trying to use alternative flavors to replace the earthy flavors from the beets and as much as I love beets personally, I appreciated the move. I thought they had an overall generous amount of beets included, which was a plus as well. I love seeing Highland Grill thriving and I hope it continues to be like such. As I move from place to place, I love making an intentional effort to return to the Highland area just for the food here.

We went on a Sunday morning and got seated right away even though it was packed. The brunch vibes here are great. It's cozy, loud (not too much), and bright. We got the hot hash and holly and the blueberry French toast. The hash is my favorite in the cities! I loved the hollandaise on it. The blueberry French toast was really good with the whipped cream cheese, although one of the two bread slices was rock hard. The state fair blueberry and basil lemonade is also served here! Overall a great brunch pick.

The food was absolutely amazing and the staff was super kind and friendly. I would definitely be returning. They have an amazing brunch atmosphere, my friend and I stopped in here after a hike and it was perfect for the occasion. I would reccomend any time you are in the area.

Great food! Farm to table feeling with fresh food and good vibes all around. Very busy during lunch on a Friday but absolutely worth it. Great neighborhood establishment. Recommend!

We stopped at Highland Grill prior to an event at St. Catherine's due to its proximity. The staff was polite and their happy hour deals run every day. We opted to try the Brussel Sprouts since they were $3 off. Since they serve breakfast all day, I went with the Sweet Potato Hash alongside the rest of our party. When the food came out, the plates were improperly set without mentioning which was without sausage (as one of the members was vegetarian). Luckily, we caught it before they dug too far into their plate but it was a close call and rattled our friend

This is the thinnest turkey burger I've ever seen! Did they smash it down? It was overdone too.

It's a really cozy moody interior, with *no big lights* aka great low lighting and comfy seating options. When we went, there were just a few other parties there so pretty quiet. I liked that we had a whole corner to ourselves with a sectional couch of sorts and some chairs. They close at 10pm on a Friday night, which felt absurdly early for a cocktail bar. But, we were able to order and drink one drink during the ~45 minutes we had. They closed up shop promptly at 10pm. They had a classics and a "rumors" section of the menu. I didn't think the signature drinks were overly unique, with classics like Paper Plane making that menu side. I had a pomegranate mojito which was good! Consensus was that the cocktails were good not exceptional, especially for the $16-17 price point. We ordered churros for the table which were a table favorite! I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again, but we enjoyed our time and could see this being a good option if you lived in the neighborhood and don't mind the early close hours.

Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience, and I highly recommend giving it a try. One small note: We didn't realize a 20% gratuity had already been added to our bill. That's partially on us for not catching it on the credit card slip, (we tipped in cash) but I do think it would be helpful if servers mentioned it when presenting the check. I typically prefer to tip in cash, so on our $62 tab, we ended up leaving a $34 tip. Even with that little surprise, we'll absolutely be back. The inside of the bar is pretty small and felt a bit cramped, especially with how busy it was on a Sunday. Right now, one of their specials is whitefish toast.. if you enjoy fish at all, you need this. The fish is light and fresh, they put fresh dill on top and it is placed on top of some toasted sourdough bread perfectly. The fish is flavorful, a lil earthy and I feel as if there are capers or olives in in the fish mixture, whatever it is is fire! The burrata, beets, and citrus is a nice lovely, fresh, light app, the burrata is perfection with the beets and fresh, juicy citrus, drizzled with some oil and random pieces of garlic mixed in, YUM.
