This is a nice, comfortable cafe/bar. The cafe side is on the left and the bar is on the right. The place isn't big so it feels more personal. I would consider the food to be exactly what you would expect from this type of establishment- very reliable. It isn't knock your socks off, but always tasty. You know that when a place is busy, it's probably going to be good. It's a pretty big place and it was very busy. I appreciate having a mature server instead of some kid with an attitude. I guess I'm getting to be an old fart. Came here for breakfast and I had "Melissa's Favorite Benny", which is eggs benedict with bacon and cream cheese. Crazy busy breakfast joint but for GOOD reasons! The food here delightful, filling, and cooked to perfection. Great variety on the menu- even breakfasts combinations I had never considered! The Li'l Bar side was slammed just as the breakfast side was. The service was phenomenal, especially considering how busy it was on a Sunday morning. Not an empty chair in the place and a huge line out the door; all the staff members were still smiling and friendly while absolutely CONQUERING their jobs. I recently stopped in on a Wednesday evening for dinner and drinks at the bar. *Note - the cafe side closes after lunch at 2:00pm. The place was hopping with patrons at every table and only a few bar seats available. Wednesdays are open mic night and people come out for it! I was very promptly greeted and asked for my drunk order and asked if I needed a menu. While this is definitely a neighborhood bar filled with locals I was treated very well by staff and guests alike. I absolutely loved the small town feel of this place. The menu is pretty sizable with what you would expect from a bar. Apps, sandwiches, burgers, and various entrees. They also offer a small all day breakfast menu which I think is awesome. I went with Buffalo wings to start which use a house made buffalo. These were killer!!! Nice size wings, great exterior snap on the bite and juicy meat. Buffalo was more on the vinegar side than buttery and not too hot. Very enjoyable. I then had the Bagel Burger. I was skeptical if it would be difficult to eat with a bagel as a bun but it was the perfect size and the bagel was very nice and soft. After 8 wings, a burger and fries, and 4 whiskey sodas my bill was about $40 which is a great price in my eyes! I would strongly recommend this place for anyone looking for reasonably priced, decent bar food in a welcoming, local atmosphere. Can't wait to get back and try the breakfast. read more

Never got to try the food unfortunately, it was a little disappointing because the reviews for this place were really good. We came in to grab some brunch and waited about 10 minutes to be seated. No big issue at all however we had to ask the people behind the counter if we could find a spot to sit because we had already been waiting and the group behind us was greeted and helped and we were not. Once we were seated our server came over and did not say a word; he just set down our utensils and walked away. The group that came in after us was greeted at their table before us and asked for beverages meanwhile we had already been waiting and still had not gotten ours or was even greeted. Upon arrival we were confused on what side to go into. But we went for dinner so only the bar side was open. It also was rather busy for a Sunday evening, which we weren't expecting. This bar feels like you're in a small town, where it was normal to walk in and hug the server. And everyone knows everyone but everyone was welcoming to us and help us learn the ways. Service was a little slow but there was only one server. So it wasn't her fault, she was working hard but wasn't set up for success. It was a small area but you could tell she was busy and could have used another server to assist. But she was always busy doing something so I was just patient and watched TV while I drank my local beer. There were multiple TV which were perfect for watching any sporting event while you wait. The apple fritter chicken sandwich has the potential to be the best sandwich I've ever eaten!!! The bread alone, loads of cheese & bacon! My only complaint is the chicken was dry, but that's me being picky!! If the chicken was perfectly cooked I'd be sold! I could smell the sandwich as soon as it got put down! The pancakes were so light and fluff. But to be picky, they were slightly over cooked. Others wrote rave reviews and I was a little sad because they had potential to be amazing. We also tried both the apple and raspberry french toast and it didn't disappoint! Overall I'm very excited to come back and get the apple fritter sandwich! For the most part, food was decent. I ordered the biscuits and gravy and the gravy needed to be warmed up a little bit more. Parts of it were a little cold but overall, decent food. Reason 3 stars was because first, we called ahead to check if they were doing dine in and the person answering the phone wasn't professional or polite. We also had our waitress (leaving name out but starts with an A) that was the least bit personal or attentive to us. Funny thing is, we saw her being kind and attentive to the elderly group next to us but we never even got a "hello" or "how is your food". When we walked in the lady at the door didn't even acknowledge us for quite a few minutes even tho she acknowledged the group immediately in front of us. Once seated at a dirty table, they wiped it down after a minute. Once we had our food and drinks, they never returned the table to make sure the food was all right. Having been somewhat of a regular to stop by quarterly for 4 years now. Today was the last, why.... #1. They charged me $2.25 for another tea bag and hot water. All the while they serve a bottomless cup of coffee. That had never happened before. #2. They wanted to charge me $4.49 for a pancake I added to my Country Benny, high menu says add $1.00 and has been the case for me every time I've ever been there. To the manager's credit she returned that to me. I'm not going to go into how staff doesn't know the difference between Over Medium and Over Easy Eggs, and when I ask for my pancake to come later that it's my fault staff made it sooner. I will end with this, I'll never go there again, and if your on this side of town may I suggest Perkins up the road in Anoka. Where you can have as many tea's as you want, like coffee and when the menu for skillets says add a buck, it means just that. read more

Always love coming here. Great comfort food that never disappoints. My favorite is Melissa's Favorite, a delicious take on a Benedict that is rich and tasty. Only thing I wish they would do is always provide spoons when you order coffee, I always have to ask for it. I mean, the restaurant is only open till 2pm, and it's a lot of breakfast foods so of course you have coffee........I need a spoon with that and feel I shouldn't have to ask for it every time. I've been to the Lil Bar a few times. They have really good bacon because it is a joint restaurant with Hudy's Cafe. They also have a funky sandwich that is chicken, swiss and bacon between two pieces french toast that is unique flavor but good. This last visit I had the bacon cheeseburger with french fries. The bacon was amazing and the french fries were traditional french fries. I wasn't a huge fan of the patty, it was a frozen patty with American cheese, which I'm not a huge fan of. Overall, it tasted alright, the bacon totally made it. The Lil Bar is very geared towards a bar bar for the locals. My last visit was on a Friday evening. Everyone that walked in the door knew each other. It is also very loud around "bar" time (Friday, Saturday evenings). If you are looking to check out their food and atmosphere, I'd recommend stopping in before it gets a little loud! read more

They don't use real butter (a blend of some sort unlike most restaurants I know) and the last few visits on Friday AMs the poached eggs were rocks and the holly sauce on my bennies were curdled/separated. I'm a guy who will eat breakfast foods any hour of the day or night, and have done so at basically every cafe, diner and greasy spoon that's crossed my path since I was old enough to have ten bucks in my pocket on a given Sunday morning. There might be no better single plate of food on Earth, on those occasions that require it, than a stack of pancakes. And there may be no better stack of pancakes, in my redoubtable opinion, than the one served at Hudy's. I've tried for the better part of a decade to recreate them at home with only passing success. The Little Bar has a really great atmosphere. It's got the vibe of a hole in the wall, however they have great food and it's in the middle of Champlin so there is a diverse group of people. It's also a cute little joint. They usually have live music on the weekends. We always end up seeing neighbors or other friends we know and typically talk to new people as well. The burgers and wings are delicious. I've had several burgers and they've all been consistently good. Service is friendly and quick. In fact, don't plan on driving home. This is by far the worst service I've ever had. Our server was Karen and she was the prime example of a horrible, bitter server. We waited for 42 minutes for our food to come out and when she brought it to our table the toast was cold, the omelettes mediocre and the pancakes were honestly the worst I've ever tasted. The bacon tasted like a bad chemistry project gone wrong. There were 4 people that came in right behind us and they had their food before us. When she brought our food a 3 year old said "it took forever" and she said "yeah it did we're serving a lot of people". I asked for water and when she filled the cups she slammed the cup on the table and said enjoy and walked away. If you value your time and the quality of your food then stay far away from this place. The sick stomach and waste of time waiting for crappy food isn't worth the money you'll spend. To Karen: if you keep treating people the way you treated us then you'll never make it in this industry.
