Some days I feel like if I didn't have my head attached, I'd be running around without it. My multi tasking has started to become such a lifestyle and a necessity because I've been so busy lately. I needed to look for a tailor around an area that I knew I would be frequenting for a weekend of Family Festivities. My cousin gave me her zip code, and I was able to search and find Demetre's based on some stellar reviews left by both frequent Yelp users and "voyeurs" who barely review. Now that's always a great sign if every single one of the reviewers had given 5 stars. So I made the trek to the store, even called a few times just to make sure she would be able to take me since I was coming from downtown rush hour traffic. I needed to have these pants in before the weekend and this was my last opportunity. And to my surprise when I walked in, there was April (not me), own of the owners of Saigon Grill. Remember that place? Love, love, love! April is a complete sweetheart, knows what she's doing, is willing to work with your time-crunches and emergencies (albeit with a reasonable pained look on her face), and is an alteration magician. I've been here a couple of times but the very first time I stopped by it was to get some last minute alterations on a suit I was to wear to a wedding. I needed something really last minute and Yelp led me to Demetre's and it's been a good customer-tailor relationship ever since. April offered her suggestions when I asked for them and also listened well to what I had wanted done on my suit. I then dropped the bomb the bomb on her that the wedding is out of town and I'd need it back the next morning. Boy, did she look displeased haha. She agreed though and I swung by the next morning, there she was with my suit all finished and prepped, I tried tipping her extra (which she refused to take!), and I got on a plane hours later. I've come back a couple of times since with minor alterations and some dry cleaning. She's yet to disappoint. Sweet lady and quality work. Just have reasonable expectations, a nice attitude, and know when something is just too far gone and unfixable (looking at you, bad reviewer). I highly recommend this place. read more

We started going here recently for the tailoring. My wife had a pair of pants relined by a DIFFERENT cleaner/tailor. The job they did was medicore. One leg was longer than the other and the lining seams began to come apart after a few weeks. Demetre's fixed all the problems. We've also had them do some other work and dry cleaning for us. The service is great, the family that owns and runs the place is super nice. Their prices are also very reasonable with high quality service. Arms, like breasts, testicles and legs, are not always 100% even, perfect or symmetrical. Ninety-percent of my long-sleeved dress shirts need to be shortened for the right arm. Before finding April, circa 2012, it was a crap shoot who could successfully tackle this task. It is not as easy as one thinks. Especially, moving the sleeve placket to match the untouched, left sleeve. April is by far the best. I estimate one in 10 there was a slight imperfection, but again, this is not a perfect job in a perfect world. All in all she does great work. Regarding other posted comments, I am in her store once a month. I see and hear how potential customers approach her. These people expect her to be a miracle worker. Don't purchase an item that your know little about how it was constructed. Not every garment brought in can be altered like your mind may think it can. If she can complete a particular job you will get 100% from her. read more

Terrible alterations experience. The first time I went, the seamstress wasn't there. I guess she goes home when she wants so call first. The man there pinned the hem of the dress for me. He said he would have her save fabric on the hem in case it was too short. She turned it around fast, but there was not extra fabric. It was too short. When I brought it up she started yelling at me. Then, I pointed out that the back was shorter than the front. She tried to say this is part of the design of the dress which absolutely isn't true. read more

I went into Demetre's to have a bridesmaid dress altered. The owner/tailor was more than helpful in helping me decide how much to take in and how much to really alter. The price was truly shocking as it was about half of what I was expecting it to be for the quality of work that was done. April is an Artist! I have had such a horrible time trying to find a great tailor - I'm glad to say I finally have. After losing 30 pounds, I was about to throw my suits out and buy new ones. My wife suggested that I try to get them altered. I brought 4 suits to April, not having very high expectations - I was amazed with her work! Her alterations made my old suits look like bespoke tailored suits. Perfect fits! Her prices were reasonable. To get all 4 altered, it cost about $360. However, the way I figure it, for me to have bought 4 new custom suits, it would have cost me well over $2,000. Her craftsmanship was WELL WORTH the cost. Highly recommended! Not a single complaint. I've had many alterations done, and each comes out better than expected. She works with what I want and has creative, strong solutions for even the most complex request. I also have my husbands shirts done here. Although it's a few cents more per shirt than the big chain cleaners, they come out better every time. read more

I have to add my praises for the high quality of alterations and affordability of this place. Found a concert black skirt for my daughter. At the last minute (received it the night before her concert.). It fit her perfectly in the waist but was far too long. So I came to Yelp and found Demetre's. I called the morning of the concert. Explained what I needed done and asked if it was possible to have it done in 8 hours. I was assured that yes, it could be done. So we brought the skirt in at 8:15 a.m. The skirt was measured, pinned, and April asked specifically if I wanted a hem left so that as my daughter grows, the skirt can be let out. Excellent! April asked what time would be convenient for me to return to pick it up that day. I told her that I would be back when convenient for her, since she was the one doing the work and I had no idea how long it would take. She assured me it would be done by 4 that day. It was, and beautifully, too! The drape was just as perfect as if the skirt had never been altered at all. Absolutely beautiful. All for $15. I thought that perhaps I would have to (and I was willing to!) pay extra because of the short turnaround time, but that's a fairly standard rate. I rarely have dry cleaning, but recently our dog Annika had a pee problem on our couch, specifically on the pillows. I had to throw out some of them, but a few were salvageable with the help of dry cleaning. We brought the pillows to April at Demetre's and were very satisfied with the prompt service and great results we got. The next time we have anything that needs dry cleaning, well you can bet your bippy we will bring it here. read more

Probably the best experience I have ever had with dry cleaners. A great shop by the Edgebrook METRA stop. Their price is reasonable and the quality of work is excellent. They have done a great job tailoring my clothes, and the dry cleaning and laundry always comes out right (never a burnt button). What a wonderful experience. I found her through YELP and was NOT disappointed! Took my daughters prom dress there for alterations 4 days before prom. I picked up the dress the day before her prom (with out my daughter she had to work) to my surprise it was altered a little to much when my daughter tried it on. She told me any problems bring back Sat. so I brought it back at 8am she fixed it perfectly and did a wonderful job.!!! So fast and she really knows what she is doing!! Unfortunately, procrastination didn't end in college for me. Less than 48 hours before my boyfriend's best friend's wedding, I finally decided to do something I've been planning on doing for over a month: get my dressed altered. To me, it seemed like a fairly simple task - turn one side of a sleeveless dress to off-shoulder. But when I took it over to a local tailor less than a mile from my place, the guy looked at me as if I was asking for the moon. But I didn't give up, of course! So... I Yelped! And there it is, a whopping 5 stars for Demetre's on Devon which is about a 15-minute drive from my office in the O'Hare area. The wedding was on Sunday, I called the shop Friday morning and spoke with April whom I've read awesome reviews about. I asked if I could drop off my dress later in the afternoon after work and have it ready before closing Saturday. After I explained what I wanted done to the dress, she said it shouldn't be too hard. I was ecstatic! I drove over to Demetre's as soon as I got off work and met April. What a sweetheart! I tried on the dress and after a few seconds, she started putting pins and needles to mark the spot I wanted removed. As she was doing this, I was thinking "She's gonna do it!" and then she said... "OK". I almost gave her a hug from excitement! But I was kind of worried about one more thing: $$$. The dress already cost me over $100 and I really didn't wanna spend another $100 but was willing to dish out up to $50 for the look I wanted. Lo and behold, she quoted me $20-$25 but actually charged me $20. SO AWESOME! Finally, when I went back to pick up my newly altered dress Saturday afternoon... let's just put it this way... I called her a "miracle worker". =) Bottom line is: April is THE BOMB!!! She is extremely professional, helpful, and polite. I was very, very happy with her work I promised her an excellent Yelp review. This is my very first Yelp review ever and I couldn't be happier to do it for her. Being new to Chicago I did not know where to go to get a bridesmaid dress altered; so I came to Yelp. After seeing such great reviews I went to April for my alterations. She was very nice when I went there for a fitting and pinned the dress where need be. She quoted me a reasonable charge and went to work. The dress was all lace with a scalloped edge at the bottom; which she said she would have to remove and give it a straight edge because there was no other way to do it. Not knowing anything about alterations I thought I had no choice so I said okay. When I came in to pick up the dress after the first round, the bosom was completely crooked and positioned too high up on my breast. When I pointed it out she tried to tell me that I was wrong. I politely corrected her and pointed out that it was higher on my left side than right and it was hitting me on my breast and not under. Furthermore, the dress needed to be taken in at the arm pits because it was too large and bunched up at the breasts and she explained to me that if she took it in that it would cut me off at the pits; so again I said okay because I know nothing about alterations. She then said that she would fix the bosom for me to return a few days later. And please note that she did not put pins in the dress the second time around; she said that she would remember... When I returned and tried it on it was now too low and still bunched at the boobs, but it was straight so I didn't fuss. I did not have the time to deal with it so I settled for the dress; feeling terrible in it. I failed to mention that I was the Maid of Honor in this wedding. When the bride saw me in the dress she gave me a very disappointed look; she immediately noticed the botch alteration job and was even a little upset with me. All of the other bridesmaids also had to have their dresses substantially altered; yet their dresses fit them like a glove. They explained that their alterations people were able to take in the breast section; not to mention that the company that made the dress built it so that the scalloped bottom could easily be removed in order to hem and then re-sewn easily. I was THE ONLY one that had a straight edge. Needless to say that I will not be going back here for another alteration. read more

I brought my wedding dress in to be bustled and my veil material cut. April was on it and did an amazing job. My train was really heavy and the material was difficult. She came up with a great solution to hide the buttons so that it wouldn't show in the church and for pics! It was very affordable as well. April is very talented and does a wonderful job on general alterations, however she doesn't like doing anything our of the norm. She'll make a face and tell you to take the garment back to where you bought it rather than get alterations. Very disappointed. She's good at dry cleaning & the basic alterations.
