I had a pair of pants there were in SEVERE need of repair. My son, somehow, basically ripped the seams out of most of the seat and part of a leg (pulled a string and just kept going). I almost threw them out, but they were expensive and thought I'd try to get them fixed. Checked Yelp and came here. Yelp did not disappoint. They are PERFECT. They tried to charge me $600 to shorten a hem and take in the waist on a bridesmaid skirt!!!!!!!! I went to get a quote on a Jenny Yoo tulle skirt for a wedding. Not only did she make me feel bad for taking in the skirt because I wanted it to fit perfectly instead of "good enough" but she also bullied me not to remove the train because it would be too much work for her. I obviously took it somewhere else and paid $70 for all of the alterations I wanted. A quarter of the price for more! Everywhere else I called also quoted between $50 and $100 read more

We've had a hard time finding a good tailor. My husband has gone to several tailors to get suits and pants altered. Mrs. Lee (and her backroom staff) try to do their best. Mrs. Lee is very experienced and knows exactly where to "tuck and pin". We have gone here 3 times and are satisfied, but the price seems high. We had suit pants tapered in the legs and the waist let-out (open up so the waist is 1 1/2" bigger). She said it was going to take 1 week to alter. It was going to cost $75 but she gave us a $10 discount, totaling $65. I'm sure it required lots of work though and I know well-fit clothing is more flattering. But still, $65 isn't chump change. Also, when we picked up the tapered pants, the pants still seemed a little baggy in the legs and so we asked to taper it more. She said "no problem" and we were back 3 days later to be fully satisfied. Fyi: Only cash or check accepted. read more

They did an extremely, extremely, EXTREMELY poor repair job on a $350 coat, essentially ruining my absolute favorite item of clothing. I had stood too close to a space heater on Christmas and burned the bottom of my adidas down coat. I brought it to this tailor with the hopes of hemming the entire coat to remove the singed part of the coat, I was told this would be "ugly" and she instead suggested we use a patch. She told me it would be "off" a little but I trusted her, she's the professional. Oh my god, if I could go back in time to save my coat. The repair job I was given back was literally the shoddiest job I can imagine, a horrible fabric that doesn't resemble my coat at all, okay, but they didn't cut off any of the burned fabric and just slapped a patch over hard burned material that is literally poking through the patch. The entire patch is loose stitching and would absolutely come off with any use or cleaning. I am so shocked that an actual seamstress or tailor did this job. I just want to cry. There are several other spots still open and not covered by the patch, I just can't even believe how bad it is. A person with any sense would have at least done the patch the whole length of the bottom of the coat? I have literally a random rectangle, it looks so ridiculous. I highly, highly suggest taking expensive items to someone else, I know I will. read more

Old Orchard did a beautiful job with my dress. The tailor knew exactly how to properly take in and up. It took about 6 days for her to get to it and it was ready when promised. It fit like a glove. She charged me $45 to shorten from the shoulders and take in the darts at the waist. It was another $30 to shorten the hem but there was a liner and she did a proper hem, not a whip stitch. This place is a little challenging to find if you haven't been here before. It's downstairs from the concierge. If you park at Barnes and Noble and walk straight past Ann Taylor you will see the Concierge sign. It's down the stairs at the end. read more

What a great experience! I had to get a suit jacket and pants tailored. Prices were reasonable and actually a bit cheaper than I've had at other places. I like that I can buy what I want at old orchard then just walk to this place to get it tailored right away. This is by far the first place I would go to if Banana Republic didn't sell what I wanted in a petite. My dress pants, my dresses, my jeans and sleeves are all done by her. I could walk in any time and she'd immediately have me pinned and spinning out of there in minutes. I get my chef coats tailored by her every time and somehow she makes me look feminine in it. I've been some other places to do alterations, but sometimes the quality or the prices just aren't good. I brought a pair of jeans to be hemmed. She measures you very quickly. She's extremely super nice, and she does it super fast. The pair of jeans was only $13 for original jean hemming. That's not bad at all. In addition, she found out I was a first time customer, and she offered to take $1 off my jeans. I didn't take the discount, but highly appreciated her generosity. She truly cares about her customer. Overall, I would definitely take all my clothes to get them altered here. Tip: Park in the Macy's parking lot next to Champs. When you walk between Macy's and Champs, you'll see it on the entrance to the services on the right hand side. I had a wedding dress that needed alterations - 1) to get the bustle added in 2) to get it shortened. I originally went to a different tailor that was recommended by a friend. Trying to figure out the bustle, this other guy poked a million holes in my dress, then poked himself and bled all over it... but that's a whole different review. I went home, Yelped local tailors and came across Old Orchard Tailor. I came in, and Mrs. Lee had me try on my dress and started pinning my dress right away. She immediately knew how to handle the bustle (each wedding dress is handled differently). Fast-forward 10 days or so, and my dress is perfect! I am also a bridesmaid for another wedding and she altered my dress, and did some complicated alterations on 2 other bridesmaid's dresses with ease! I can't recommend her enough! read more

I've been coming back to this place for quite some time now and the level of service has exceeded itself with every visit. They are patient with your alteration needs and offer suggestions when needed. Although, I'm only speaking in terms of hemming pants, jeans and suit alterations so I'm not exactly sure how well they do with the alteration needs/wants of the female customer. I took my brand new Burberry trench coat here to get it altered. Overall, my experience was just "okay." I was wrestling with myself about the rating. I wish there was 3.5 stars. Mrs. Lee was so nice, I gave her the benefit of the doubt. Mrs. Lee is a wonderful woman and was entirely reassuring when I told her the changes I wanted done to my coat. I was extremely picky about how I wanted it to look and towards the end of my visit, she probably thought I was crazy. (C'mon, I just dropped a huge pile of cash for this coat. I'd probably kill myself if someone ruined it.) I got the coat back in two weeks. For the amount of money I spent on the coat, I was kind of satisfied. Thicker materials are understandably harder to work with, but for $200, I expected the utmost symmetry on my coat. The length was fine all around. This was impressive since the coat was pleated and had a flared A-line cut. The buckles on the wrists of the coat could have been symmetic with each other. The stitches on the waist of the coat could have been done more evenly. The thing that my my experience almost subpar was when I returned for my coat. The man who returned my coat to me tried to cut off a loose thread and accidentally made a small hole in the inner lining of my coat making me nearly demand a refund. I also think the coat should have been shortened more. I told her I wanted it knee length, but it ended up being a half inch/inch longer than I wanted. This was fine since I probably wouldn't regret it when it got much colder out. For $200 in alterations, I should have just gotten it altered at Neiman Marcus. read more

Absolutely horrible experience. Made it extremely clear how I wanted my item altered and was disappointed at the sloppy work that resulted in a dress that was way too short. When I kindly told them about my dissatisfaction she simply shrugged her shoulders and said "I don't care". Horrible customer service. The prices are absurd as well. We finally have a tailor! They are quick, reasonably affordable, and can do that magic alterations trick that makes a $90 pair of pants look like a $300 pair of pants. I took a bridesmaid's dress here not long ago to be taken in. While I was treated very well, when I picked up the dress, it was as if they made no alterations at all. The dress was still too big, ill fitting, and not worth the $50 I was charged for a "special dress" alteration. I am sure this tailor does a wonderful job on other articles of clothing, but I would not recommend them for a dress alteration. read more

I brought in a sport shirt after shopping to get some alterations done. I got the sleeves and width taken in and the back darted. It ended up costing $40. This was my first time going to a tailor so I'm not sure of that's a good price or not but the shirt came out great. The alterations took a week which seemed a little long but again this was my first time so I'm not sure. My only complaint is that there was a small stain on my shirt when I picked it up, it looked like chocolate. I didn't notice it until I got home and it came out in the wash so no biggie. Phenomenal alteration job! I won't lie, I broke out into a massive sweat when I was told that my alterations would be $80 (I couldn't really understand the thick accent either). Regardless, I decided to trust her since my dress needed a lot of work done and yelpers had nothing but good reviews. When I went in for the fitting Mrs Lee was very efficient and knew just how to bustle my dress properly and where to best take things in to not ruin the design. But this is where things stopped going right. I brought my dress in 3 weeks before I needed to leave the state to head to my destination wedding. I was assured my dress would be ready 3 days before I left which would give us plenty of time in case anything went wrong. I arrived for the pickup to find my dress hadn't been touched! (similar to a previous poster's experience) I had to come back the next day and luckily this time it was done. After trying the dress on, my bridesmaid notice a large red spot of lipstick right on the back of my dress. Neither I nor my friend were wearing lipstick at either fitting and it was same color as Mrs Lee's. I was obviously upset but I'm not one of those "this is my day!" kind of brides. I gave her the opportunity to make it right and have the dress cleaned. I returned in an hour but a light spot was still visible. She said that if I had given her more time (mind you she was a day late in getting the dress altered) she could send it out for a cleaning. I asked for some sort of compensation for having stained my dress and she offered me a measly TEN DOLLARS off the CLEANING fee! She refused to take off anything more because she said she had put so many hours into the dress (when the day before she had not even touched it!) To make matters worse, as we talked further she continually nervously wiped her lipstick-covered mouth and then repacked up my dress! I felt terrible having to argue with such a sweet woman but I had to fight tooth and nail to get any real compensation. Eventually she conceded and gave me half of my bill. I can see this place being great to get your pants tailored but do not under any circumstances bring her anything time sensitive or wedding related! read more

Whenever I need anything tailored (jeans, suits, dresses, etc.), I go to her shop and she measures and fits me in minutes. I recently moved to Chicago from deep south Georgia, and I never had the need to own a coat due the descent Winter weather in Georgia. Once here my family urged me to buy a coat for Winter, and I did, but it was too long for my petite self. The wool coat made me look shorter than I am. Thus the need to fine a tailor to alter the coat. From the reviews that I read, Old Orchard Tailor & Alterations sounded like a good option. But after using the coat I noticed that the stitching was coming undone. I was charged $50 to get it shorten, and now it seems that I will need to get it re-stitched. hopefully it is something that I can be easily and inexpensively fixed. Now I will need to find a better place for any tailoring. One good thing is the service Mrs. Lee was kind enough to tell me the price of the job needed and she had it ready for me in about a week. Makes up a new price every time you go. Caught when I had the exact same thing done several times in different visits, I save all my old receipts. Also, if she thinks you have money she charges you more, (i.e. based on how you look) Next she can't communicate in English very well neither expressing herself or understanding what you want done. I had several things like a brand new leather jacket not done the way I wished after I explained it several times. To late no fixable now.
