We enjoyed Highside so much until they remodeled and removed the kitchen. Used to have the best BBQ (loved the nachos!) but the last 3 times we've been in, the food has been wayyy below par and once actually inedible. Something about the food truck system is not working in my opinion. Beer is always good but with such inconsistent food quality, we won't be stopping in. Hopefully they get it figured out as I'd so be happy to see a return of the BBQ options we once loved! read more

For several years now Highside has been my favorite brewery in the whole state. For a lot of reasons: -Great beer (i'd argue the best in terms of taste and variety) -Great atmosphere -Great food Having asaid all that, we recently came in over the weekend and the service was pretty terrible. I virtually never tip less than 20% and I only tipped 15% that day, it was so bad. The waitress was dismissive, was rushing our order, was rude about things on the menu (we asked if a side was available and she responded "If its not on the menu, we don't have it."), and seemed generally annoyed that we were even there. I love this place so much I'm still giving it five stars but I was pretty turned off by this experience. it was the worst service I've had at any restaurant in months. I hope they don't turn this into a repeat. Still great food and beer though. read more

We absolutely adore this place! Have been here a dozen times with the pup for happy hour drinks and yummy flat breads and fries! Stopped in here with a friend on the way back to Denver after a backpacking trip. Our main concern was finding outdoor seating; another place up the street had a long wait and was a bit more cramped, so we were happy to discover that the Highside had outdoor seating immediately available and that their tables were adequately spaced. Luckily for us we were under the overhang, so when it started to rain, we didn't have to move! We were approached by a server right after snagging our seats, but I needed a minute to look over the digital menu before making a selection. Once I had, it took a while to flag her down again. She was just clearly busy. I ended up going with the Calm the Farm Down and a Smoked Pulled Pork Sandwich, and my friend opted for the CO Strong Pale Ale with the Brisket Sandwich. They accidentally switched our orders, so my first sip was of the Pale Ale and I thought, well that is quite an odd tasting Farmhouse! We did a quick "are you okay with drinking from this glass I just drank from" and were cautious to drink from the opposite side.. you can't be too careful right now with this COVID business. I wasn't feeling very hungry upon arrival (sometimes when I exert myself, it does the opposite to my appetite than you would guess), but as soon as I smelled the food and took my first bite, it was exactly what I wanted in that moment. Deliciously juicy pork with the perfect slaw, that despite having jalapeños was not spicy, and an ample side of potato salad. I managed to eat the entire thing and had a satisfied tummy. Parking is available in the lot behind the building or on the street. I can't comment on the inside as did not enter, but my friend took a quick bathroom break and did not mention anything was off. Service was friendly, if a bit slow, but we were in no rush as were trying to let some of the I-70 traffic die down before getting back on the road. The bar tender let us try a few different beers (including the Frisco Chile, spicy people you'll enjoy) before we settled on a few. We were able to sit outside and enjoy the patio while sipping on these beers. You can easily park in the parking lot in front of the bar. The bar was clean as well as the restrooms. The bartenders were extremely accommodating and allowed us to taste any beer we wanted before purchasing. Also, they're part of the Craft Tapped bars if you subscribe to that! We have been coming to Frisco for years and have seen this property go through many changes. The current incarnation is the best. The down-stairs is dog-friendly bordering on dog-required. The upstairs has a full bar and is dog-free. We're not really pet people so we opted for upstairs which proved to be lucky for the double-rainbow we treated to at the end of the meal. I have been to many many brewpubs in my life and the beer at Highside blew me away. Apparently they got a new brewmaster not to long ago and he is killing it. Both beers I had were Belgian influenced. The Belgian Blonde was one of the best ales I have ever had. It was light in color and body which really allowed the flavors from the Belgian yeast to shine through. The Belgian IPA was very good as well. Was surprised it wasn't too busy to find seating for our family of 12. We were at separate tables, but close enough with the outdoor seating. The tables had fire tops and as soon as we set down, the propane ran out. The owner ran right out to get more propane and got us warmed up in short order. Their dunkel, coffee flavored beer, is excellent! Offers tastings before committing to a beer even during Covid. Big space indoors and outdoors so social distancing is easy. Beers on tap, food is decent. Got their pastrami sandwich - loads of meat! Their dip was great but it tasted better with the carrots and celery than the crackers. They just use Ritz crackers. Highside Brewing has a new location in Fairplay, and it is dog friendly and great! They have a large inside and outside space and convenient parking. The outside space has beautiful views south and west. Inside is a pool table and pin ball machines. The beer is very, very good. I am a fan of the Colorado blonde beers; Ska True Blonde, TrVe Skullseeker Blonde, and now Frisco Gold. This blonde is light and flavorful and perfect. Highside Brewing will continue to be a place I visit when I am in Fairplay. read more

What a great little hidden gem in Frisco! And by that, I mean it's literally kind of hidden, tucked away off of the main street. I've driven up to Frisco a bunch of times for lunch and wouldn't have known it was there if I hadn't specifically looked up a barbecue place on Yelp (my mom had a craving). Our server was great, they have a nice sunny patio where we could sit outside with our pups, and my mom and I were both SO positively surprised by how good the food was. I ended up ordering the brisket sandwich with a side of coleslaw. They do brisket right here! Brisket can be kind of a gamble, but it was sooo tender and juicy. I swapped half of my sandwich for my buddy's pulled pork sandwich and you can't go wrong with that either. The sandwich isn't the prettiest, but it tastes good. Don't spend 13 dollars and give me half ounce of meat with no cheese on my tacos... my girlfriends Salad didn't come with dressing and I could have made it in my sleep. So disappointed. You have to figure everything out on your own! There was a sign that said, "Sit wherever you like." All of the tables were dirty. We had to figure out where the menus were. We had to figure out how to order food by standing in line at the end of the bar. The establishment on their website claims how world famous the barbecue is... But it turns out it's just a bar that serves underwhelming food. We ordered the sliced brisket for $12.99. The portions came on small metal trays the size normally associated with a children's menu. The meat was very dry and chewy. We also ordered coleslaw that tasted like 2 Day old sliced cabbage with a dull bland flavored white dressing. I'm all for service dogs being allowed with owners. This food establishment allows all dogs regardless of training or grooming. To wrap things up, I paid $45 dollars at premier prices for what was basically less quality than a fast food unhappy meal. read more

We stopped by for drinks this past Thursday afternoon. There was a good crowd inside when we arrived. No wait staff (that I could see) and a sign that said place orders at the bar. The problem was that the bar was totally full of people sitting on stools and we could not find a place to put in our order. When we were able to catch the bartender's eye (behind two guys sitting on top of a table butted against the end of the bar) I ordered a flight and my companions each ordered a pint. Let's be honest - all though Colorado may be the best state in the country, it is absolutely not the food state... With this being said, Highside Brewing is some of the best BBQ I think I've had in not only the Mountain West, but even smokes most places in the Midwest. The brisket is terrific and it what gives this place a 5 over a 4, is the bun they serve it on is also great. Nothing worse than great meat ruined by a cheap bun.
