I'm not one to post a review but I need to share because I don't appreciate getting ripped off. This is one of the few places that over charges on every single item, and if the food wasn't half decent I would never come back. Today I ordered two pancake platters (which is on their website and paper menu), says it comes with home fries and toast. Bacon is an extra charge. When I got to the register ready to pay, the guy charged me extra for everything! Extra for home fries x2, extra for toast x2 and extra for bacon x2 (which was the only price that was accurate as it's extra to begin with). It went from what should be $15 - 16 dollars to $27 plus dollars! I reduced to one home fries, didn't take the toast and agreed to pay with no intension of coming back. I was told the platters were from an old menu and yet I got this directly from there website and on their paper menus. If this isn't accurate I suggest updating both menus ASAP. I used to come here every weekend for myself and my wife. Why should I come back to a place that is trying to take advantage of people and rip people off. I tried their bagels for the first time a couple of weeks ago and it was the best bagel I've ever had! The bagels were crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside and were even still warm so you know they were fresh. I will definitely make the trip to Brooklyn again. I never learn my lesson regarding this place. I like supporting local businesses but sometimes it's not worth it. Normally I come to this place when I'm starving and need something quick and close but after the encounters I've had with Highway Bagel even a rumbling belly won't bring me back here anymore. The guys behind the counter are rude and disorganized. I ordered a western omelet and home fries with cheese with one person, but then another person accepted my payment which happened to be a debit card. When the original order taker brought my food out he tells me "oh the home fries don't come with cheese" and proceeded to charge me .91 cents. I told him that I already paid to which he responded "Well you can use your card again" and I had to pay with my debit card because I had no cash. It wasn't so much that it was extra money, though it was an annoyance to have to pay .91 on my debit card, it was more about his tone of voice, and how charging me .91 just seemed a bit petty and overkill. Not to mention the pricing here seems a bit high compared to say Bagel and Bialys further up Kings highway. Whenever I come here I always hope my experience will be better than the last time, but it never is and I've run out of chances to give this place. I definitely won't come back here or support this business. I'd rather make my own breakfast or go to Bagel and Bialys or Ave R Mini Mart on Nostrand and Ave R where the customer service and pricing is much better. I feel that the customer service here could be better and maybe the owner needs to either retrain the staff on how to leave rudeness outside and how to interact with customers or scrap the entire staff and start fresh with people who care. read more

Despite the fact that I've been a loyal customer for the past few years since I live across the street , I am really not happy with this place anymore . Within the past year , the quality and service here is inconsistent , it's either a hit or miss . I love how it's ope 24/7 and the food itself is tasty , but I've had to wait in long lines when there is too many workers in the counter and not enough in the kitchen . I haven't had issues ordering salads or ready to go wraps but that's because that requires nothing from the kitchen . What has pissed me off here is the prices and the menu. Half the sandwiches on the menu aren't available , so they should update it since it's misleading . Even worse , their prices don't make sense . How is it that two BEC FLAGELS and two drinks end up being over 22 dollars ? Thy literally charge 3 dollars per each topping , and FLAGELS should not cost extra to make when it's less bread lol. I stood there at the counter waiting to order for minutes while the employee stared at his cell phone. Not once did he look up to ask what I needed and he was right in front of me. It was very odd. Meanwhile for ten minutes an upset customer argued for her money back for rotten cheese they sold her the night before. They would do nothing for her. Just give her the money back...This place needs some serious new management of the shop. It's dirty, the food doesn't look fresh. The employees barely have a pulse and they don't know the difference between a garlic and an onion bagel even after you've asked them to double check because you saw them grab the wrong bagels. This place was good decades ago. Then they kept remodeling it and remodeling it and remodeling it. Each time the food and bagels just got worse and worse. I left my house early and went the complete opposite way from my job because I was really craving a bacon egg and cheese sandwich. Unfortunately there are no places by my home or by my job that offer pork bacon, so here we are. The man who served me, cocky looking guy who was texting on his phone as he took my order, seemed to be more interested in his phone than in his job. Okay, bacon egg and cheese on a toasted everything bagel, eggs over easy and cheddar cheese. Simple enough. 5 minutes pass, 10 minutes pass, I'm asked to pay, 15 minutes pass and I ask about my sandwich because people who ordered after me are getting their food. Turns out there was an order mix up and they gave my sandwich to someone else so I'm just standing there all paid for just twiddling my thumbs. The kicker is, this dude who took my order goes "oh there was an order mixup and we gave your sandwich to someone else. What do you want to do? Do you want another one made?" Noooo....I'm just standing here like an asshole for shits and giggles. No shit I want the sandwich I paid for. About 10 minuteslater, I finally get my sandwich. Now I have to take an uber and stress to get to work on time all because the people who work here are incompetent at doing their jobs. First off you need to give credit where credit is due, and that's the aesthetic of this bagel shop. Having seen this place my whole life I remember them before they even renovated. It's not too particularly artistic but at least now it doesn't look old and antiquated. Now it's well lit and provides some seating in the back with a view of cars driving by. How's the bagels? It's a bagel shop! Of course you need to speak about their bagels. Well first off they're large in size. At least relative to the competition of Bagels and Bialys. The problem with them? They're often not fresh. In my experience with bagel shops it shouldn't be too hard to land on bagels that are made fresh. Another con to this place is that it's on the pricier side. Maybe the overhead is more than that of the compeition. Or maybe they believe that the quality of their product deserves such a high price, I dunno. The bagels are admittedly not too pricy at all but just about everything else they have costs a bit more than your average bagel establishment in the area. They do however offer a rather large selection of goods such as muffins or rugelach (the random other goods are often a hit and miss in terms of quality, often average). Do I still come here anyway? Yeah, sure but that's only because it's much closer to me than the competition a couple blocks down. Staff is very friendly... no matter what I get bagels, salads or wraps its always delicious especially their veggie tofu (for the vegan eaters who have a hard time finding good tasting tofu cream cheese). I come here multiple times a week during lunch break as well as order for delivery and I am always satisfied with the food and service. I live right by this bagel store and my family and I have been going in and ordering food for the last 20years. The food is delicious and the portions are plentiful. The service is excellent and the staff goes above and beyond to make sure you are satisfied. I was compelled to write this review because of a recent post I saw....I myself being of Russian decent find the review offensive and untrue. Once again the staff is always looking to satisfy their customers....With that being said, If you want to try the most delicious bagels or wraps go to Highway Bagels!!! It really amazes me how the reviews here seem to run the gamut. Well, I guess there's no accounting for taste. Once upon a time, this place was really good. Then (10-15 yrs ago?) somehow it became GREAT. Their bagels were big and chewy with a malt flavor. I think they were TOO big, but the flavor and consistency were top-notch. And they always had all of the requisite Jewish appetizing you wanted, even if the guys behind the counter seemed a little non-chalant about service. Then, some years ago, everything changed. It was after they renovated. The bagels are now generic, too fluffy, a little flavorless. The ONLY appetizing they seem to have is lox (even though other stuff is on the menu). I don't really get sandwiches there so I can't comment on those, but I ordered some smoked turkey and when I got home it turned out to be pepper turkey. Big difference. Unfortunately I'm going to have to find a different bagel joint, until their quality changes again? read more

Literally the worst bagel spot. And it's not even because of the quality of the bagels, which are decent, but the service makes me want to cut my eyes out with a spork. They have the ability to mess up every order i ever place. We called in an order for bagel lox tomato fried egg, they gave me a boiled egg from the salad bar. They also completely disregarded my gf's scooped out bagel, and then had the balls to charge 24$ for 2 bagels, 2 small coffees and a Gatorade. If I didn't live a block away, I would NEVER go here. Weird seeing all the bad reviews. My boyfriend and I come here every Saturday and Sunday morning and LOVE it. I love how big the bagels are! The bagels are really good and they have never once messed up our order. I always get a sesame bagel toasted well done with cream cheese or with olive cream cheese. Their olive cream cheese is delicious. My boyfriend really likes their whole wheat everything bagels. Also their ice coffee is really good, and not too sweet! They are also very cleaned and organized. I love how they label the bagels so that you don't get mixed up especially when you have a big order. read more

I went here about 4:30 a.m. on a Tuesday. Since I work overnights, it's not always easy to find spots that are open 24 hours outside of Manhattan that aren't Mc Donald's, so I was happy to see this place. It was next to a Dunkin Donuts, but I'm always happy to visit a local shop rather than a chain. The place is brightly lit and clean, which is always good. I ordered my usual morning treat, an everything bagel toasted with butter. The coffee counter is self-serve, which I love, so you can make it just the way you want it. My order came to $2.35 which was great. For the same order at Dunkin I would have been looking at more like a $4 bill. I could smell the bagel while it was being toasted, always a good sign of a delicious bagel. Big downfall: When I got back to my work spot, I pulled the bagel out and noticed butter was soaked through the wax paper. When I got a piece out, tons if butter spilled onto my coat and the bottom of my dress. Gross. I literally squeezed the piece like a slice of pizza and watched all the butter come out. It was really disgusting. I had to do that with each piece and use all the napkins I had to soak up all that fat. Once I did that, the bagel was very good (although I didn't really feel good at all about eating it, but I was hungry so I went for it since I usually don't eat bagels anymore.) The bagel was thick and the crust was crunchy with a soft inside. The coffee was piping hot and fresh, which I love. All in all, it was a good cheap breakfast. But next time I will be sure to tell them "Go easy on the butter". That's really the only complaint I have about this place, something that can easily be rectified. The guys working were friendly, but they need to not try to give customers heart attacks with all that butter! Otherwise, they would have gotten 5 stars. read more

Probably the third best bagel shop in the area, behind bagel boy and zee bagels. They renovated a while back and kinda got ahead of themselves becoming a "gourmet"type spot with much higher prices. Aside from that, the bagels are great and are made fresh on site. They also have a salad bar which is pretty good. Their cream cheeses are great too.
