I rarely write reviews, only when I have had great or terrible service. Hilco is a 5-star review. I had an offer from a competitor for a free Summer tune-up on my A/C system, and while it has been running fine for many years now, a tune-up, whatever that is, would be beneficial. So the competitor came out, performed an inspection, and, surprise, surprise, found a bunch of things wrong with my system and began to press me for a commitment to a new system. I expressed my reluctance, stating it was running fine and I had no issues with it. He told me that the whole system was about to fail at any moment, and they were scheduled so busy in the Summer that I should take advantage of the offer to replace the system now vs later. I asked how much, and he quoted me his proposal. I gasped: $52,000.00 (more than I paid for my first two homes), so he said I could get by with a valued system at $36,000.00. I expressed skepticism and told him I would not spend that kind of money while my system was working. He then quoted me a system for $27,000.00, and I told him I would have to think about it. At that point, I called Hilco, who had performed work for me 18 years ago by replacing a bad unit, and Brian, one of the owners, came out, tested the system, verified a couple of things the first guy did and said he recommended a couple of minor fixes to keep things running smoothly and performed the work right there on the spot. He charged me $240.00 for replacing a couple of capacitors and said when it came time to replace systems to call him, and he would get it done for less than half the original quote from his competitor. Brian from Hilco explained that because I have solar, certain system features would not be a good return investment and anyone not taking that into consideration was "selling" me stuff I didn't need. I asked how long he thought my current system would last, and he was careful to say no one could know for sure, but he anticipated a couple more years easily. I appreciated an honest technician/company that had my interest at heart, not just someone selling bells and whistles I didn't need or afford. You can bet that when the system is to be replaced, I will call Hilco. Great experience with them. My highest rating. read more

Hilco has been servicing our (2) HVAC Systems since about 2006 - that's 18 years. They have never pushed us into unnecessary parts, accessories or new systems as so many people do. Our systems are 20 years old and still doing a great job. We have to give most of the credit to Hilco and their twice a year maintenance service they perform . read more

I know absolutely nothing about air conditioning, except mine went out and I called a 24 hour place and got financially taken. I was recommended this company and was SHOCKED at how honest amd forthright they are. "Your air is out?...be there in 15 mins" and they were. Spent hours in the heat and my house blows cold again. Oh that other company? I got a 8900 quote for a subpar unit. Honest. Hardworking. Prompt. Friendly. Integrity. And frankly super affordable for a very pricey part of your house. Our AC went out after normal business hours. I called the main line around 8 pm and was greeted by a friendly voice. I was immediately put on the schedule for the following morning at 7am. Brent was promptly at my house before 7am. He was very thorough in looking over my unit, he didn't take any short cuts or try to up sell me like I've had other companies do. The repair technician, Brent, went out of his way to check if the motor was under warranty and pickup up the part from the manufacturer. Let me begin with the positive. The communication was good with Hilco and I have used them before when my AC went out, they were a contractor that my home warranty company used. They were also listed on the APS qualified contractors list. Now to the negative; beware of hidden fees with this company! They came out and looked at my house and AC and recommended a few different units. Without going into the attic they quoted me a price giving me a ceiling and a floor price. The ceiling was advertised as the maximum cost. They came back a second time and went into the attic. At this point they said it was going to need additional duct work and the max price would need to be increased by $170. Ok, sounds fair. They told me the price prior to the work and I agreed to it. The day they came to do the install, I was at work and my wife was at home. They told her that the wiring was bad in my attic and would not support the new unit. I do own a house built in the 50's. She asked what the price would be to run new wire and they didn't have an estimate but told her that it would be a major safety issue to use the existing wire. This is where you have to watch this company. When I got home Brian told me about the wire. He said he wasn't going to charge me for labor and would only charge me for materials. I asked him how much and he said he wasn't sure until he got back to the office. They came back a few days later to finish the install and the price for the wire was over $400 to run 75 feet of new electrical wire. I called my electrician and he said the wire should not have been more than $100 even with a mark up. When I called Brian at Hilo back he said there was a mistake with the invoice and that $85 of it (labor) should not have been charged. They sent me back a check for $85. People, trust me, they charged me $300 for wire without quoting me in advance. That plus the metalwork was 570 above their max quoted price. 10% hidden fees. Despite that, I'm still giving them two stars because the work they did was solid and many of their employees were friendly and non intrusive. I'm not saying not to use them. I'm saying to get the price guaranteed before you do work with them. They will throw in costs when you are already underway. I'm opening a case with the Better Business Bureau for the over $400 in non quoted electrical charges. read more

I am posting a review for a unit my 84 year old parents purchased brand new over 1 1/2 ago. Since then unit has needed repairs. This last visit parents quoted 900 for a heating and cooling valve that needs repair for a new unit makes no sense. My parents live on fixed budget and since warranty expired over 12 months parts covered but not labor. How is it possible to be stuck with a unit over 6000 and your still forking out to get it to work properly. read more

I ask HIL-CO AC for an estimate on a 19 years old split unit replacement,they send a guy to take a look at the unit at the house and he give us the prices for the replacement,they were good, the only thing I do not like was the way he said he do not care what other contractors said about the installation,he does the things the way he liked,do not give me wrong,I never said nothing questioning the way he was going to install the unit. read more
