I brought my BMW in for a routine oil change and what should have been a simple service turned into a series of problems. The replacement drain plug washer (crush washer) that came with my filter was overlooked and discarded instead of being installed. While the technician explained that he did not see the new washer and initially had difficulty removing the old one, the owner's response was to repeatedly suggest that I should have told them the washer needed to be installed. I found that frustrating because a standard service part included with the filter should not have to be pointed out by the customer. After discussions with the shop, they agreed to correct the issue. Unfortunately, after the vehicle was returned to me and I stopped for fuel, I discovered that the oil filler cap had been left loose. Oil had leaked into the engine compartment and onto surrounding components. Finding a second oil-change-related mistake after the first issue had supposedly been resolved was extremely concerning. What disappointed me most was not the original mistake itself. I understand that errors can happen in any business. What changed my opinion was the combination of the mistake, the effort to shift responsibility to the customer, the negative attitude when concerns were raised, and then discovering another preventable issue after the vehicle had already been returned to me. As someone who trusted this shop and used them for years, I expected better communication, accountability, and attention to detail. Unfortunately, this experience has seriously damaged that trust.
