Stopped in to get some bottles of wine to take back to our AirBNB and strolled upon this gem. The worker, I think her name was Theresa, was extremely helpful and gave us a ton of samples to taste to help narrow down our decision. What a great little spot! Small quaint tasting room with a bit of wine related retail. Right near the square and very close to Wimberley Cafe. Very reasonable tasting price at$7 for 6 wines. You can order the dry red flight, the white flight or the sweet flight. Most all the wines from the Escondido Valley in west Texas. This is were most of the grapes are grown in Texas anyway although not widely publicized. Lost Draw Cellars and William-Chris are two of our favorites. Really enjoyed both the red and white flights. The sweet flight is VERY sweet and all about fruit. One exception is the Choco-wine. Sounds really awful- chocolate wine!? I am NOT a sweet eater and don't really like chocolate but this is a perfect combination similar to non-dairy Baileys. So enjoyed the owner-host that helped navigate the wine. We just left this place after a day trip to Wimberly. We are from San Marcos so not too far away. Don took care of us for our white wine flights and he had the most amazing stories. For $16.99 (inflation ya know) you get to try 6 wines of the wines ; you either get the whites flight, reds flight, or sweets flight (featured different fruity flavored moscatos). Don knows so much about it and it was such an educational experience. I recommend if you like wine and want to learn more about it check the place out! read more

Really weird experience in this place, which was strange because all of the other vendors around were nice. I followed my friends into the store because they wanted a tasting. They asked for a sample of two wines. On the third sample, the lady helping us said "Okay, this is your THIRD serving of wine." (Tiny plastic cups) My partner didn't like her tone. There were a few other off comments and rude tones throughout the "tasting." When my friend group said they were going to buy a bottle of wine, they were discussing which wine to buy and the lady loudly (and not very nicely) interrupted with "DO YOU ALL HAVE A CARD FOR THIS PURCHASE OR?" At that point, my partner just said "Um. Okay. I'm going to go wait outside." And just walked out. The lady doing our tasting starred slamming the bottle and some glasses on the counter. She said something along the lines of "I gave you a huge free glass of wine and if she's gonna be rude like that....you know what." She was yanking payment from my friend's hand and slamming things around. I'm not sure if she was having a bad day, but the customer service was so awful and we were treated so rudely that we didn't purchase more wine. Very uncomfortable, weird experience. The wine was all blends and very fruit forward so would only buy if not really into wine. read more

This little shop offers tastings from various Texas and other wineries, organized by a preset menu of either whites, dry reds, or sweet wines. You pay $7 for an etched glass promoting Wimberley as a Little Taste of Heaven (well, why not?), and that includes the tasting of all the wines from the menu of your choice. There's room for about 6 or 7 people at a time to belly up to the antique bar (standing room only), and the sommelier/host pours for each group separately, explaining each wine and its history as he/she goes. The afternoon my friend and I were there, we both tried the dry reds, and our host was knowledgeable and entertaining. There was not a bad wine in the bunch, although we each had our separate favorites. A lot of these wines are served by the glass or bottle in the local and regional restaurants, and you can buy them here more reasonably (about $22-36/bottle for the reds we tried) without having to visit each winery. They also have an entire wall of wine-related gift items and cute bar accouterments. Definitely a place to put on your list to stop by during an afternoon of shopping in Wimberley. Be aware that like most of the shops, they close up for the day at 5PM. read more

Take a break from shopping and enjoy some of our Texas wines. This tasting room offers several wines from around Texas. They do have a set list. You can only choose from reds, whites or sweets. The tasting comes with a free glass. It's a cute souvenir. The lady serving us that day was very knowledgeable and even gave us a history of each wine and winery with each pour. The tasting room is small and can get crowded. There's no sitting, but it's not a bother. They do sell some cute wine associated items. I ended up leaving with wine and extras. The old bar is beautiful and from an old Willie Nelson movie, "Red Headed Stranger." Their "dry" red wines were not dry. They were all very fruit forward compared to the traditional tasting notes of the types they are serving. It's a cheap tasting at $7, and comes with a glass that is etched with "taste of heaven" and Wimberley on it. Now, it's more of a shop, than a winery. So, don't expect to have a few glasses, sit down, or to use a restroom. The girl that was waiting on us was very young and knew very little about wine, and seemed to care very little. That's not the best wine experience! If I came back, it would be to show my boyfriend the bar. Overall, the wine was mediocre! So, it's kind of a one time thing! read more

I was not impressed at all by the wine tasting here. I would recommend this place for the wine merchandise over the wine tasting/ wines. (I purchased a candle). It is a very small place with a bar that has no seating. They hand you a menu with with 3 lists of wine (Red, White &Sweet) and tell you to pick one and they go down the list and give you a sample of each one off the list you chose. There was only 1 gentleman working at the time we myself and 2 friends went and he was too busy to even acknowledge us. We waited while he finished up with other customers then started the tasting. The man told us what we were drinking, which we read from the list, but other than that, seemed to have no other wine knowledge. A few times he told us about the wine maker who was featured in a magazine, or gave us facts about the prizes a wine had won, but no true wine knowledge about what we were drinking. I had to even ask for water to rinse my glass between tastings. He was just pouring wine after wine in my friends' glasses, even a white after a red! This was the strangest wine tasting I have ever done and to be honest, not something I would ever pay for. We had a gift certificate for a free tasting. Bottom line, if you know anything about wine, I don't recommend it. If not, and you're just looking for a casual experience with a little wine involved, go for it. read more

We called Hill Country Wine Shoppe and spoke to Jill. We wanted to order two bottles of wine for our Aunt and Uncle to help them celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary but we live in Tucson. We had stopped in the store during our last visit and found the shoppe to be welcoming and the owners charming. We told Jill want types of wine our relatives like. She suggested two wines, included a note from us, and facilitated the delivery. Our ralatives were very pleasantly surprised and they said the wines were delicious. We highly recommend this store! You can taste nice, fruity wines with a hint of racism from the lady at the tasting counter. Overall, a cute place... I love this wine shop when the young girl was there. She was fun and accomodating and we always bought more than one bottle. However, when the owner is there, she is rude, condescending, and cheap. Pours a few drops in a tiny cup. I won't buy anything from her. ...and if she continues with that poor service, I won't ever go back. So, let's see??? We regularly go wine tasting here. They only stock wines from Texas wineries that make batches too small to distribute to stores, plus one red and one white wine from Italy for the Italian restaurant goers across the street. It's like visiting half a dozen wineries in one stop. The wine lists change minimally throughout the year, though, and sometimes they can't get a particular winery's top products (ex. Sistercreek won't sell them their best blends). Wine tasting is $7 per wine list (red, white or sweet), and each list includes ~8 wines. Purchase 3 bottles and the tasting is free. Purchase 6 bottles and 1 tasting is free + 10% off. My husband and I usually taste both the red and white lists and walk away with 3-4 bottles of wine. Each bottle is only a few dollars more than if bought at the wineries. If you want to taste more than 1-2 types of wine, please be respectful and purchase a wine tasting. They get a lot of foot traffic and can't give all their wine away. read more
