Ok in fairness I've tried it here 3 different times, the service needs serious tweeking. The food has not been "great" it's merely been average, blah. We've had the perch on 2 occasions and it's been consistently bland. Poor establishment when management goes home. So don't go for anything but breakfast. Also cooks are a little slow and sometimes struggle with special instructions. Price isn't bad but not worth it really. Convenient location but poor parking situation. Don't get the appetizers. Overpriced and always still frozen at the table. No matter what you're hungry for, Hill Road Grille is the place to go! Their menu is large and all of it is available all day. Their chicken parmesan is some of the best I've ever had. Omelettes are my breakfast favorite. Their corned beef hash is homemade and one of the few that I eat. Their portions are large - my husband and I frequently split a meal or we have enough leftovers for the next night. We haven't been there yet when the owner was not there. We decided to try this place after hearing they had great breakfast. We walked in and were instantly stared at like we were crazy. We sat down and ordered our drinks, it took ten minutes before they were delivered. The waitress (who did not tell us her name) said she would be right back to take our order. She took our order and after about 20 mins she looked at our table and then went running to the computer (we believe) to put our order in. Five tables that came in after ours , got there food before us. Our food finally came out 10 mins later. The order was wrong but we were hungry so we ate it. My husband and I are frequent customers at Hill Rd. Grille, but not anymore. Their Omelets are great, no bad review on their food but their customer service is really awful, and I didn't realize that until Mothers Day! My husband and I planned to meet our daughter, son-n-law and grandson there after church for a nice breakfast, as we really enjoy going there on Sunday mornings. I knew it would be busy so I went up to the counter an one of the female servers at the Cash Register asked how many and I advised "5". She did not ask for my name, so I assumed because they know us there that she would remember, DONT ASSUME. Another lady came up and she said that they had a party of 15. The server said she would have to ask the Manager about seating that many. Server came back and said 30-35 min. and told Owner that as well as I'm standing there. Another female server asked us again, how many and I told her and pointed to the other server that she has asked us as well. The second server didn't look at the list they started, and walked away. The owner and one of the servers started setting up for the party of 15. I asked the server why we weren't being seated first. She indicated our name was not on the list and party of 15 requested before us. I started to get upset because that was clearly not the case. I spoke to the Owner as well and he said the same thing. I tried to explain that I was standing right there when they told the lady how long, and no one took our name. They acted like we never existed before that day and treated us like we were liars. I was very upset and stated that if they don't seat us now, we will never eat there again, they said nothing, so we left and went to another restaurant that seated us right away and I received a carnation on our way out. I guess money talks! Customers are always liars and revenue is all that this Owner cares about. A great American grill. Polite, clean and plenty of food are the quintessential qualities of a good diner. I had the Corned Beef and eggs with Texas toast. They have good coffee and warm smiles for a wonderful breakfast with Gina helping our every need. My buddy ordered a Mamas special and got a table full of food because of a side of hash browns. Overall this is a solid place. After reading the other reviews I was excited to try the chicken club sandwich which I replaced with chicken salad instead of chicken breast. OMG, it was so good. The bacon is really thick and flavorful and the sandwich is a mouthful. I was VERY pleased with my meal. My husband had the Mexican omelet. That left a bit to be desired. It was covered with what tasted like canned hormel chili. The hash browns were cooked really well but had no taste. That was easily fixed by a little salt, pepper and hot sauce. The environment looks just like the picture and is clean and open but somewhat like an oversized generic diner. This is not necessarily a complaint just fair warning. The staff were very nice and attentive, the food came out really fast and overall the dining experience was ok. I will definitely come back here again when I'm in the Flint area. read more

Stopped in for dinner. Server walked us around the dining room looking for a table. I had the gyro platter. Had to ask for the sauce. Rice had peppers in it and that wasn't explained in the menu. I have went here many times and it is pretty good most of the time. Went tonight the first thing I ordered she came back 10 min later and told me they were out of it. I then order a Breakfast sandwich she brought it back to me with egg lettace and tomato on it. I told her a Breakfast sandwich should have meat egg on it. I told her I did not want it. I would like to start with I thought this place was going to be good because it's always busy. I was in fact wrong. I meet my friends for Saturday brunch the place is not busy at all and we had to wait 15 min for service after being seated. We ordered and had to wait another 30 min for our food to be brought to us. I've wanted to try this place since it opened. So we didn't go to our usual burger place in which we know we're going to get an awesome burger and fish/fries(Burger Street). The atmosphere seemed like a cafeteria, the lighting was bright. It would be nice if they dimmed the lights a bit for dinner service. I also did not like the hard plastic plates! I didn't not like the atmosphere at all. My husband had chili which I tasted and it was pretty decent very flavorful. I had a double cheeseburger. I order the double cheeseburger because the menu didn't state how many pounds the burgers were so I played it safe and got a double. It was big! Actually too much meat for me. My burger was over done, burnt tasting actually and my cheese melted into nothing, very little mayo I had to ask for more and had to ask twice. My husband got fish and fries which I also tasted, It was just ok very gooey on inside from the batter, could have been deep fried longer. Now to the service the waitresses never smiled, seemed like they were frantic, definitely inexperienced except one girl she was picking up our servers slack for sure. The owner or manager helped clean tables and brought food out for our server(they weren't that busy she seemed overwhelmed.) I noticed the portion sizes in other customers plates and they are big, his food cost must be huge so much that I don't see this place lasting long, I could be wrong though. Yesterday we explored the Hill Street Grill, on the basis of recommendation by a friend's recent experience there. We are under-impressed - baked potato under-cooked, chicken breast dry, green beans limp and ready to be pureed. Stir fry chicken was edible, teriyaki sauce (?) appeared to have been poured on after assembly of the dish, all broccoli and cauliflower were burned at the flower end, all onions carbonized, not caramelized, rice bloated; staff said all stir fries are intended to be burnt like that. On the plus side, the cats liked the sour cream that was served for my raw potato and the birds like the pita bread served with the stir-burn. read more

Food was terrible. We will never go again. I ordered the wing ding dinner with mashed potatoes, salad, and corn. The wing dings were way way over cooked. Bounced off the plate like rocks! I told the waitress this was not acceptable. She took them back. A few minutes later she returned with what looked like the same plate of wing dings! I told her That too! Told her still unacceptable. She took them back. Never even asked if she could get me something else. My son and husband and son finished their dinner. Waitress brought the bill. I said to her I hope you did not charge me for the chicken. She said she did not and left. No apologies for the overcooked food. I looked at the bill and saw she charged me for an ala carte salad and mashed potatoes. Dinner was 8.99 and she charged me abut 6.00. This was our first and last visit here.
