At one point, I would've considered this one of the best locations for fish and chicken in Gaston County; however, over the years it feels as if it has become downhill. I can't speak too much to the interior as I never have actually sat down and ate inside, but I will say their service and staff are very amicable. read more

Well this is my 3rd time going before I made this.. as a kid in the 90s this used to be the place every Friday.. good food good portions and good prices... this place is not the same food was terrible all 3 times I have been in the last 6 months. I have not been here in years, but I do remember the chicken being very good. I had chicken wings that were still good. They were crispy and moist. We also got shrimp and fish. The shrimp was good too with a spicy cocktail sauce, I appreciated that it wasn't overcooked. Now, my biggest disappointment was the fish. It had absolutely no flavor. The homemade tartar sauce was like dipping it in miracle whip. I added hot sauce which didn't help much. I'd love to see a better fish option here. Service was good, friendly, helpful gentleman. This place used to be a solid five star. Since the manager that ran the place for so many years left, it has gone steadily downhill. First of all, this is a fried chicken restaurant and not a seafood restaurant. I don't know why they stick with the Shrimp Boat name. Years ago, you couldn't eat the food when you got it because it was so hot. Now you get cold fries, cold chicken and cold hush puppies. The food does not taste as fresh and sometimes the fries taste like they have been fried a second time to warm them up. This was never the case before.Considering the high prices they charge it should be good every time and you shouldn't have to tell them to make sure the fries are hot. Other people must feel the same because I went by there on a Friday evening, and there were only two cars in the parking lot. It was the weekend after the Fourth of July so maybe that was the problem. The coleslaw and banana pudding are good but again both are expensive for what is essentially a fast food restaurant. There are no healthy options. Everything is fried. The ice tea is good. If the place is ever run as efficiently as before I'll be going back. I'm going to give them another shot soon. If they fail I'm gone for good. i'll end on a good note by saying they do a good job keeping the restaurant clean.And with multiple cash registers, the cashiers do a good job keeping things moving. read more

Come on people. This place has its merits, but it is not a seafood restaurant. Maybe Gaston County should have it's own fish camp category. Well where so I start/ First if all this was a family favorite if you grew up in Gastonia it was a treat for your family on Fri or Sat night. That was back from 80-early 2000s. Welp fast forward and today its a total BUST. I ordered a shrimp dinner and wing dinner. My chicken was not crispy it wasn't seasoned line it used to be it was terrible I should have just gone to a KFC. It was not the same that I grew up eating. Not sure if management and kitchen staff are new but please go back to the basics of frying your chicken!! Food used to be addictive back in the day, best chicken in town besides my dad's. But as time went on, the portions got smaller as the prices went higher. I don't even go as much anymore - maybe once a year, if that. There's better (and healthier) food options available in Gastonia now. I've eaten here several times in the last few weeks after hearing great things and I think I've got a pretty good understanding of their food. Being honest I had planned on never returning here again. I've sampled the wings and the chicken strips and they were great. I haven't had the shrimp or fish yet but the chicken was good enough to revisit. The customer service however needs improvement. To some that doesn't matter but to me it definitely does. They are often very short with you over the phone and even in person. On my last visit the lady left my food in the window far too long while she was talking to an old friend and when I moved to the other side of the counter as my patience shortened, she grabbed two phone calls as if I hadn't been standing there long enough as it was. On top of that when I got home my chicken was under cooked. After eating here several times over two weeks, I knew what to expect and that was definitely not their best batch. Based on that and the crappy customer service, I had planned on never returning. My boss recommended their banana pudding and although hesitant, I would only lose $4 if the the experience was poor so I thought, why not?. I am definitely glad I tried it. I have not had banana pudding this perfect since my grand mother passed 10 years ago. I mean it was literally SPOT ON! The real bananas, the cookies still had the right amount of crunch, the pudding was perfectly flavored and although I don't like whipped cream, I devoured this! I am now a believer in this place again and the only reason they did not get 4/5 stars is for the lackluster customer service but I'll definitely be back. read more

LISTEN!!! These chicken livers lightly seasoned with salt and pepper got me driving a whole hour away to have a taste. Oh and ask for hot sauce and a 4oz tarter! Great place. Lots of seafood. Fried with hush puppies. You order at counter. Was pretty fast even though a bit busy. My wife had seafood platter. I visited ShrimpBoat today around 4pm. Not especially satisfied there. When I received my chicken it wasn't done there was pink inside. So I brought it back and requested it be cooked well done. The cashier had a remark to make " well you should have ordered it well done." She didn't say I'm sorry we'll take care of that or anything . She wasn't too concerned with serving raw chicken. And even after I got my chicken it wasn't good. So needless to say I won't be back and I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to no one. read more
